I am writing to request a credit for a nonrefundable round-trip flight with Icelandair airline from Chicago to Helsinki that I booked on Expedia (Itinerary # 72689379067880 I booked on Nov 4, 2023). I understand that Icelandair's policies typically do not allow for refunds on nonrefundable tickets, but I hope that you will consider making an exception in this case due to extenuating circumstances.
The goal of my trip was to travel from Helsinki to St. Petersburg, Russia by bus where I would bury my mother’s remains in our family grave as she wished.
On Nov 18, 2023, Finland closed the crossing point on its border with Russia, and all busses to Petersburg were canceled indefinitely. The bus was only one way to get to St. Peterburg from Helsinki since the Ukrainian war has been started.
I hope that you will consider my request and grant me a credit for my unused flight tickets. This gesture would demonstrate your understanding and willingness to accommodate customers in difficult situations.
I am open to discussing alternative solutions, such as a partial credit or the ability to apply the unused portion of the ticket towards a future booking. I am confident that we can find a mutually agreeable solution.
