cashing savings bond
I tried to cash in my savings bond at this location. When I went through their customer service, they automatically asked if I had an account. When I said no, they asked if I wanted to open one but I declined. I was told to wait. It took about 10 mins to get someone to help me when I can see that everyone that was working there were available. Finally...

Chase sent us a 3% offer on all transfers for the life of the account, so we transferred the rest of our cards, and closed those accounts, to chase knowing we would not find anything lower than 3%. We mailed in our payment the day we received a bill. For nearly 6 months everything was fine.
One month we received our bill on the normal date and mailed off our payment the day after, like usual, two to three weeks before the due date. The next month we open our bill to find that our % rate had been raised from %3.00 to %14.99, we called to find out why, they replied that they had not received the payment until 12 hours, yes 12 hours past the due date. They had held on the check until the day after our account was due.
I asked them to please put the % rate back down and they refused saying that they had not received it until the day after the due date. The check was dated for two weeks before the due date and they refused to send me the postmarked envelope in which the payment was received saying they had lost it. Chase is a predatory credit company who should not be allowed to do business in this country.

unfair cancellation pratices
I have had this credit card for 15 years. Just received a promotional offer to upgrade my card to the Visa Signature Card. Then shortly after received a cancellation notice on my credit card due to excessive useage of fuel purchases. Chase is cancelling peoples cards that are using them for gas purposes only. Due to the fact that I paid off the bill monthly and only used it to receive the discounted gas prices they no longer what to continue their services. I beilive this is unfair advertisement of this card and unjustified cancellations of credit terms. I have not changed the useage of my card over the past eleven years, but I guess now the goverment bail out funds were not enough. They are turning on the consumers.
double billed / cancelled and still billing
I have been double billed by this service for 7 months. I cancelled the service in October and I am still being billed. I have faxed the proof of double billing 3 times and I have been on the phone countless times. I am actually on hold for 30 minutes as I am typing trying to get a supervisor on the phone. I called earlier and was told that the rep would not put me through to a supervisor and she hung up on me. I have never been treated so poorly. I have absolute proof of the double billing and they will not credit me. I don't know what else to do?
If you have been treated like you are nothing by these people, please friend me on FB so I can start a group to show these people and others, that are thinking about opening an account how awful they are. Please friend me if you have an FB account, or open a new one (takes seconds), as i did and friend me. Clark Stanford.
deposit accounts
I regret having opened deposit banking accounts at Washington Mutual JPMorgan Chase WaMu. WaMu denied me timely access to collected funds in my demand deposit accounts, contrary to custom and relevant law. WaMu suspended my access to online banking without notice or explanation. WaMu executed a EFT deposit after telling me WaMu would not do so.
I found WaMu branch staff dismissive, disinterested, condescending and insultingly non-communicative. I came to conclude that Washington Mutual JPMorgan Chase WaMu is dishonorable, dishonest and an unreliable counterparty in banking relationships.
One regrets having opened deposit accounts at Washington Mutual JPMorgan Chase WaMu.

harassing phone calls
Due to a divorce in 2000 I had one outstanding credit card with chase manhattan that the judge in
court issued a judgement to my ex husband that he is liable to pay. I have that judgement. In 2001
I sent that judgement to Chase Manhattan and the credit reorting agencies to remove it from my
credit report and it has not been done as of yet. I have been harassed every day since 2000 from
collection agencies about this debt that is not mine per the judge and the judgement. They say they don't care about the judgement. I WOULD LIKE TO SUE THEM AT THIS POINT FOR HARASSMENT AND
NOT REMOVING IT FROM MY CREDIT REPORT AS IS BY FAR WELL PAST THE STATUTE OF
LIMITATIONS.
run by thieves
Take this as a warning! Chase bank wants much more than to hold your money - this greedy, unprofessional company wants to steal your hard earned cash! If you must bank with chase, be ready to pay ridiculous fees and charges, and to deal with an unprofessional team of individuals seriously lacking in customer service. Incident 1: I accrued overdraft fee...

I am a realtor. I was contacted by a couple who had a variable loan on a home financed by Chase. The husband had become disabled and their house had become uninhabitable. It had TONS of city violations on it and it is in horrible condition. The amount they owed was more than the house was worth. I put it on the market and got a couple of short sale offers. This was in June 2008. I spent hours and hours working on paperwork only to find that each of the 14 times (yes, I have proof) that I faxed Chase, they denied they ever got it or would give me a COMPLETELY different place to fax it to. They would also ask for an additional piece of information. Three faxes ago, I faxed 64 pages! I had to stand at the fax machine and fax it in two parts as the memory would not accomodate that. Each time I called, I was given the run around or they told me that I needed to call another number. I called one day four times and was put on hold for 45 minutes each time and then hung up on! DELIBERATELY. I would hear them pick up and then CLICK! They finally sent someone out to do a BPO. I arranged to get them in and again called for WEEKS afterward. When I finally got thru to the assigned negotiator, he told me that I would have to wait for another week for them to do a internal revalue. I called him back and he told me that they were rejecting the cash offer contracts that I submitted and countered with an amount that was not only ridiculous, it was higher by $20, 000 than what homes were selling for in that area! So now, after more than 5 months of work at MY expense, Chase is going to allow it to go into foreclosure. It will be assigned to another real estate agent who will spend months just like I did trying to get offers only to find out that they will get less than the offers I currently have in hand. It will cost Chase (and their investors) more money and they will end up with an offer no more than the current ones I submitted as the house is a train wreck! I will bet the investors in Chase would feel real good about their investment if they knew that Chase was sitting on homes that could have been sold except for the fact that thay have disorganized, unprofessional and people handling their affairs. NEVER AGAIN will I attempt to involve myself in a short sale if Chase is involved NOR will I ever take out a loan from Chase NOR recommend them.
Chase Bank does not care one bit about their customers, the American people, the families they are affecting or the overall economy. The rest of the world could burn as long as they get their bonuses.
After paying my 15 year jumbo mortgage down by more than $200, 000 in 7 years my business slowed to the point that I had to decide whether to skip a mortgage payment or feed my family. I chose to feed them. I sent faxes, letters and I spoke with Chase numerous times. I explained I am not showing enough income to qualify for a modification right now, but all they keep saying is apply for a modification. These drones have not minds and no brains. They continue to send paperwork about a modification.
Nothing they do is for the consumer, it is all about what will be the most profitable for them. People that bought no income verification with no money down that are under-water in the value are being given a free ride because they can not foreclose and make money. I have equity in my home and I miss a payment and they are on me like flies on %$#@ and then when I hit 60 days down they start the foreclosure threats. NJ is a judicial foreclosure state ###s, it takes an average of 944 days to foreclose (second worst only to NY at 966 days) so by the time you get this property it will be full of mold, rat infested and falling down.
I am a realtor has well, and I will be posting my full complaint, in just a few minutes. Its unreal what they are doing over there! to the credit witch more info for Jamie Dimon would be great!
The quickest way to get anywhere with Chase Home Finance is to contact Jamie Dimon at the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Office in NYC. Send CC's to all Board Members.
bill recived late scam
I have been with chase for a number of years and have used their promotional checks wich gave me 2.9 to 4.9 fixed. I used one last month to pay off another credit card and later that month when my bill was due i did not recieve a bill. I later recived the bill 6 days after it was due, convieniently for them this null'd all my promotional APR's leaving me with 18, 000 in credit debt at 24.99 percent. Their constomer service center would not do anything about it stating that i "could have gone online and checked and saw that it was due". In the past i have always recieved my bills from them 6 days after the post date, this time i recived it 6 days after the due date... Ive been scammed.. this is actualy the 2nd time this has happend to me through chase, I guess i learned my lesson the hard way.. DONT DEAL WITH CHASE
Oh and for the record, EVERYONE is doing this to their non profitable customers. Hell, Citibank is raising the minimum payments AND the interest rate!
Why didn't you pay your bill while you were giving birth? have you thought about that most people have more than 3 cards and all the other bills that you have! It is very true that Chase have been scaming everyone, they did't do for the $ 6 bucks like you mentioned but they will do for the 24.99 % why don't you google Chase and check out what they been doing with the promotional offers that they have mailed to customers, raising minimum payments, adding bogus fees and etc. once you accept any offer from Chase, they turn aroung and change the agreement without further notice or giving you the chance of opting out! not honoring their offer.
that's supposed to be 24/7/365
Seriously? You honestly think Chase holds the statements too long, deliberately, to get another 6 bucks a month out of you? I know good and well that my credit cards are all due between the 15th and 22nd of the month. I have three cards, a toddler, a mortgage and all the bills that come with, a car payment, and I have never paid the bill yet except the one time after I gave birth I was in the hospital and they reversed my late fee and reset my promo APR. AND, Chase is there 27/7/265. Why didn't you just call and ask where your bill was? If you don't get your electric bill on time, does that mean you don't have to pay it? And who says YOU'RE not lying about whether you got your bill?Pay your bill on time.
possible providian scam?
I have had postings of payments not credited for up to 2 weeks after they were mailed, and subsequently one week after due date. This obviously results in late charges and finance charges being added. The strange thing is that I have documented other items mailed at the same time are always delivered in a timely manner !
This seems strangely similar to the Providian scams investigated in the past. I got no resolution with Chase Bank and cancelled my account. Does Chase need to be investigated for thier banking activities ?
I experienced exactly the same thing this past summer but with an added twist. I actually made payments on two Chase cards on separate accounts on the same day with two checks in numbered sequence. One was credited, the other took three weeks to credit and incurred a late fee by one day. When I called to complain and explained the odd circumstances, they refused to admit that there was any possibility of their misprocessing the check. They went on to suggest that I had deliberately withheld mailing the one payment despite all other bills to a variety of companies/utilities paid on the same day being processed without incident. I have been a loyal and satisfied Chase customer for nearly two decades, but now I distrust them and watch every statement like a hawk.
false charges
Found 8 months of "Chase Protection Plan" charges on my account that I never signed up for, totaling about $50. I Phone Chase Protection Plan and said I wanted a refund. They said they would investigate and get back to me in four months and that they had my signature on a $20. check which was false. I said check was fraudulent and asked for supervisor after being told refund was impossible. Supervisor agreed to refund the Chase Protection Plan charges. Will they? I have to wait and see. Lots or horror stories on the net about Chase Protection Plan. I think they sign people up without their permission as in my case
tried to cacel id plan
Dear chase card representative:
On friday 02/08/08, I received my statement from chase. I had an over-the-limit-fee charge. As I more closely inspected the statement, I found charges for chase id protection for $11.99 and payment protector for $121.99. I never asked for these services. I went back over past statements and found four more charges for these two items. The charges are as follows:
Id protection: 12/28/07 - $11.99 payment protector: 01/02/08 - $121.11
11/28/07 - $11.99 12/02/07 - $109.59
10/28/07 - $11.99 11/02/07 - $101.45
09/28/07 - $11.99 10/02/07 - $ 92.09
08/28/07 - $11.99 09/02/07 - $ 81.63
Total - $59.99 total - $505.87
Over-the-limit-fees - $70.00. Grand total - $635.86
I called customer service at [protected]. Little did I know at the time that I would get the run around for the next three hours. I was told to call payment protector at [protected]. They said they would investigate. I was then told to call to call id protection at [protected]. This is when things went down hill. Id protection said they could take care of the last two months but I had to go back to customer service to deal with the rest. I went back to customer service and was told to go back to id protection. They in turn told me to go back to customer service, and transferred me there. Once again customer service told me to go back to id protection. I asked for a supervisor. The recorded voice said there would be a 10 minute wait. After 25 minutes (And this is not an exaggeration) a supervisor came on the line. I told him that I had been shuffled between the two depts. All I remember him saying to me is hello, then, he transferred me back to id protection where once again I was told to call customer service. I couldn’t believe it. By this time I was getting very annoyed with the people i’d been talking too. I asked for a supervisor at id protection. After a long wait, a supervisor came on the line. She told me to go back to customer service and transferred me. I couldn’t believe the rude and unprofessional service I was receiving. This back and forth went on for much longer. They also gave me the nos. [protected] and [protected]. But nothing changed. I was still getting the same run around. I then got a hold of the same supervisor at id protection again. This time she very bluntly told me she had already talked to me, and there was nothing she could do. I told her again, like I had told her many times before, I did not order this service, and I am not going to pay for it. She said that would be reflected on my credit report. I then gave this supposed “customer service professional” a piece of my mind. She hung up. I then called customer service again. Finally, after talking to several more people who did not know what to do, I got a hold of a woman who gave me your po box no. 15298. Why didn’t anyone else tell me to contact you? Are you going to investigate this matter?
I cannot understand why I was so rudely and unprofessionally treated. Many (Not all) of your people, especially the supervisors, were discourteous, incompetent and had an “I could care less attitude”. Is this the kind of customer service that chase tolerates or condones? I sincerely hope not.
Please investigate these chase card services mistakes. I want to be reimbursed for the grand total above, plus any interest and finance charges incurred. I have enclosed copies of the statements that I have concerning this issue. Please check the previous month’s statements that I do not have.
Thank you,

In my haste I forgot to mention that what I posted is the condensed version of an almost 2 month and hours and hours ordeal. Like I said, the back and forth the OP wrote is pretty much what happened to me and THEN some. Absolutely rediculous.
This issue is almost identical to mine. I am glad I actually cancelled because of a closed account and they no longer have access to my account to deduct. Otherwise it sounds like it would have gotten ugly.
I had a VERY similar issue about a one month credit with Chase ID Protection. They tell you "I don't know" when you ask them who can I contact about the refun I was supposed to get that I didn't. I am NOT being funny or making this up. I am dead serious. Even the supervisor said, "I don't know. I assume Chase" LMAO I SWEAR SHE DID. And THEN I called Chase, where their supervisor did a conferance call with me AND Chase ID Protection and they told this lady that was trying to help me the SAME thing. This is the most rediculous thing I have ever seen. Not expected from supposedly a "Reputable" bank.
I wonder if some sort of legal action or consumer advocate action is in place. There HAS to be. I mean COME ON! Really? People can do this in the USA? I thought we had better consumer protection.
I just had the same problem with Chase.
Such a pain.
Someone should sue them to dead.
I have been double billed by this company for 6 months! Not only that but I cancelled the service in October and still continue to bill me. I have been on the phone time and again getting no where. I have faxed the proof of the double billing 3 times and they still will not refund my money! I called again today and the rep would not pass me to a supervisor and would not give me her name. I have never been treated so poorly! This is a company that is supposed to protect us and we wneed protection from them! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY there are plenty of services out there.
I found the charge on my bill and called Chase ID protection to cancel it and asked for refund. I was told that they only can cancel it and refund me the charge for Nov but not Sep and Oct.
I asked them how can they charge without authorized.
They told me I should talk to Chase credit card because they called me and I enrolled it on phone- this is a lie. I asked them on what date did I enroll. It's Sep 10th, 2008.
The customer service insisted that I dont have prove to prove that I reject their enrollment so that I am enrolled.
I called the Credit Card service number. And, of course, they insisted that's non of their bussiness. I should contact ID protection.
First, I never believed in credit protection. They are mostly fraud. Even if they called me for 100 times, my answer will be the same- NO! I dont need it.
Second, I checked my cell phone, which is also the only number I have, on the record, I never talked to them.
Although I cancelled it today, I doubt if they'll stop bothering me or charging me in the future. It's not only the money. It's the feeling of security and an inconvinient.
Their strategy is:
1. People who has small amount of lost usually dont want to sue them because it might cause more trouble.
2. People who plan to sue them usually will back away if they agree to refund.
So, they keep doing the same thing to waste your time, make inconvinient and take advantage of you.
u should tell ur dghtr 2 b careful when she pushes buttons on the phone when calling card member services that's how she enrolled i guarentee it
i understand cus when they call in upset about charges that they did not make so pay att to ur billing stmnt honestly i hate ppl screaming at me everyday like i am the one who posted unauth chrgs to thier accnt i understand them but the num r on ur billing stmnts each month cum on now
I've had same/sililat complaint. First they said I requested it. I said I didn't and I want it removed. They took it off the card. The next month, they said my daughter requested it. She didn't. They removed the charge when I threatened to cancel the card. The following month? You guessed it, they said my other daughter requested it. I really complained and they took it off with boatloads of apologies and statements that my file has been flagged and that the ID protection will never appear again. . This month? Absolutely. They said the first daughter requested it again. I will be canceling this card this afternoon. This is a total scam and I wonder how many people are paying these charges without even knowing it.

errors and omisions
Chase Home Finance agreed to modigy my mortgage and that it postponed the foreclosure and Trustee Sale. They confirmed this twice to me and four times to the Home Savers company that I hired to hel me. I saw the "stop sale" on their screen. They went ahead and sold it. My property has 180, 000 equity and they just took it from me.
Can anyone help me? Does anyone know the name of their Insurance Company?
You requested the name of the Chase insurance company. If you mean the company that they purchase insurance for properties on which they hold loans, it is American Security Insurance Company, PO Box 50355, Atlanta, GA 30302. This name and address was in a notice to me dated 09/06/2008, which notice told me that they had purchased insurance coverage erroneously, and charged the premium to me. I hope that this is helpful.
overcharged
After receiving my bill from Chase with a minimum payment due of $107.00 I immediately sent a check for $110.00. The company charged me $100.00 saying that was the amount I had paid. They admitted that the box did say $110.00, but claimed the written line did not. They were unable to substantiate this because they had made an electronic withdrawal and destroyed my original check. How convenient!
They then charged me a late fee for the supposed missing $7.00 in the amount of $39.00 and raised my interest rate significantly. They also reported a late payment to the credit bureau opening me up to rate hikes from other companies. They did remove their fees, but refused to correct the late payment record, which was of course the bigger issue.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My mom is 80 years old and in a wheelchair after having a stroke in 2003. She has a Chase Visa credit card that she has had since 1977. She always pays on time, but recieves a letter stating she has to pay 5% more each month. She can not afford that, and after many conversations with the customer service dept., supervisors, and specialty supervisors, they gave her a choice. Pay the 5% more a month, or close the account and pay the amount she is currently paying. I couldn't believe it she has been a customer of Chase Visa for 32 years and now they want to close her account because she pays on time. In a matter a fact a couple of years ago a representative contacted her and told her if she would take a loan of $10, 000 she would always pay the same amount each month at APR of 5.99%, never mentioning that their would be an increase in payments per month. Something needs and should be done about chase. Why punish a customer you have valued their buisness for over 30 years, how about rewarding them?
While I understand your frustration, financial institutions are supposed to withdraw the *written* amount on a check, not the numerical value.
fraud and scam
We have spent the last few months dealing with the same issue: Chase shows us as being behind on a payment, despite the fact that they have read through the payments with me over the phone and they are all there! We have faxed proof of payment, I have had at least three separate 'customer care' representatives tell me that they can't find a problem, but I...
Read full review of JPMorgan Chase and 7 comments$5.00 a day over draft charges unfounded
After accepting a new job I had to close my bank and move. I went in to the bank and made sure my balance was $0.00. I then asked about outstanding debits. I don't have a check book so I know I didn't have any checks out. Several months later I recieve a letter from a Financial Collection Agency saying I was charged a $5.00 a day over draft fee for my account being over drawn. Threatining that I won't be able to have a bank account for 7 years and freezing assets...etc...Supposedly I had a -20.00 balance that quickly went to $300.00. This isn't right.
Chase Bank went from being a decent bank to one of the worst within the past few years.
Certain checks that are received weekly from local, reputable companies (who also bank with Chase) have always cleared the following day. Suddenly, they began holding them for 5-7 days, with no warning.
Usually, I had a high enough balance to cover anything that was spent on my debit cards, without considering the weekly deposits. However, I had one purchase that came in in the amount of $100.00, which was $5.00 short, without the $2500 in weekly deposits.
After doing business with Chase for 12 years, I would have expected a courtesy call or at least to be informed that they had begun "holding" the local checks that had always cleared right away.
Instead, I was charged a $35.00 service fee. Since I was totally unaware of the fee or that they decided to start holding the checks, until I received the "Overdraft" notice 7 days later, it "pyramided" to over $350 by the time I received the initial notice.
I was very irate and called my local branch and asked to speak to the Branch President, who had always been great to work with and a really nice guy. I was told that he had been transferred and was put through to the "new" Branch President. This woman was downright RUDE, cared nothing about the fact that I had 5 Business Accounts, as well as 2 Personal Checking and one Personal Savings Accounts.
My total average balance for all accounts combined over the past 5 years has been right around $25, 000, although sometimes lower, sometimes higher.
I was courteous and respectful when I asked why they had begun holding local checks from reputable companies who also banked with Chase. She immediately became rude and treated me as if I was some bum who had just tried to pass a forged check. I pointed out that I was a long-time loyal customer and felt she should not speak to me using the tone she was using.
Things only went downhill from there. I told her if Chase no longer wanted my business, I would go elsewhere. She said "Fine!" As I began to get angry, I told her that I intended to call the District Manager, who I knew casually, and relate the details of everything that had happened, including our conversation.
She laughed and said, "Sorry, he's no longer with Chase". She then said she had other things to do and basically hung up on me.
I did call the District Manager's Office and she was right, my friend was no longer with Chase. I spoke to the "new" District Managers secretary, who was very sympathetic and apologized profusely. At this point, I felt much better, thinking Chase had simply made a poor choice in choosing a new Branch President. The secretary promised that I would receive a call from the new District Manager within an hour or so.
Three days later I received the call. The "new" District Manager must have been the "new" Branch President's sister! Rude, condescending and totally unprofessional. Seems I was wasting her time complaining about something I did wrong.
That same afternoon, I went to my local branch and closed all of my accounts. I made certain that there were no outstanding checks or debit card purchases. Not once was I asked why I was closing all of my accounts, nor did anyone seem the least bit concerned. Instead, I was told that I would have to leave $1000 in one account, in case any additional checks came in. At this point, I totally blew up, pulled out my cell phone and told the teller that I was calling the State Banking Commission. (I just made that up...I wasn't really sure who I should call.)
After some very quick whispering between her and the new President, they decided I could have all my money.
End of story? No Way!
Three weeks later, they "discovered" that I owed some additional fees, in the amount of $55.00. When I received the letter stating I owed them money, I immediately called and asked what the fees were for. No one was able to tell me. I had no additional checks or debit purchases and they could not tell me why I was being charged.
I told them, too bad, you won't get it from me! I also was threatened, saying that I wouldn't be able to open a Bank Account anywhere for 7 years.
Too bad...I already opened my business accounts and personal accounts with another bank (Wells Fargo), so it did not really matter. To this day, I still receive "collection" calls from Chase. After two years, the $55.00 has grown to over $300. I haven't opened any of the mailed notices in several months and I really don't care.
Since the collection calls all come to my business phone system, I have programmed it so that any call from the famous "[protected]" Chase Collections number, go to a special "Broadcast Only" mailbox which informs them that "we do not accept calls from scam artists". Occasionally, I switch it to a "canned" this number is no longer in service message, complete with obnoxious tone at the beginning. Unfortunately, I know most of the calls are automated calls that demand that I call Chase immediately, but occasionally they make a "live" call.
Bottom Line: DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING BUSINESS WITH CHASE. While they were once a decent Bank, things started to go downhill shortly after the merger with Bank One.
unfair consumer practices
I am a very responsible person with a good credit rating. Never in my life have I felt so unvalued as a customer, as I have in dealing with this bank. They are utterly ridiculous. They have claimed they did not get payments, or received them and posted to my account 1 hour past the due date. They are in essence scamming the consumer's, and we are helpless to do anything about it. I recently received a letter from them saying they closed an account of mine (which had been paid off and had a zero balance) because they claimed I had too much outstanding debt. Since when do we as consumers need to explain to a credit card company why we needed to make a purchase?
We all have choices. The only way we can fight back is to close their cards, and never use theirs again. That will be the ultimate message that we are the little people who pay their big salary's. It's no wonder they are able to buy out failing company's. We are footing the bill with the interest rate scams they are inflicting on us. This is an example of greed, and customer service at its worst. Not to mention, a credit card company who is taking advantage of the average consumer during hard economic times.
The bigger you are, the harder you fall.
rip off
I contacted them on why the principle paid each month was different. I called them when I received a late notice and saw that the principle was a certain amount. If you times it by the number of months is was about $1000 difference from what they are showing. I have a high risk loan and if I want to trade in the vehicle I owe way more than what it is worth. They shouldn't be able to do this. Giving people high risk loans does not help the person. If they can a lets say a $250 loan note giving them more in interest rate may make it $350+ note. What makes them think someone could afford that then? Yes I do not have the greatest credit history but I know I would have been able to make the payments easier with a lower interest rate. They do not want to give the little guy an opportunity to prove himself. They are just looking for $$$ and that is the bottom line.

never had a problem with chase, good credit and paying your bills on time go a long way.
The reason the amount that goes to principal each month is different is because you have a simple interest loan. What that means is: When your loan is booked, it is only booked for the principal amount. The interest is accrued and added daily. This is calculated based on your daily balance, interest rate, and how many days between when payments post. So, if you make pymnts 30 days apart, you will pay 30 days of interest and the rest goes to principal. If you make a payment 31 days from the last payment, you will pay 31 days of interest and so on, and so on. If you have a high daily interest rate, this be as much as 10 differnce in the amount gong to principal. I hope that helps.
How true...same position, see my comments on my 2004 Toyota Rav4, which I was upside down in, they repo'd sold at auction and are now trying to get me for the balance. I guess Bankruptcy is my only option! Rich_AZ
student loans
My son is a freshman at college, and though we were willing to help pay for his expenses, he wanted to do this on his own. So he applied to three banks for loans: Wells Fargo, Chase, and JP Morgan Chase.
Wells Fargo declined his application without a cosigner. (They will soon be handling all my banking needs, by the way.)
The two Chase banks agreed to give him loans, although their website says "Private loans may require a borrower to have reasonably good credit, as well as have a co-signer in most circumstances, " and "a co-signer is typically necessary for undergraduate students to qualify." (It says basically the same thing at least three other times.) For some reason, my son was an exception to needing a cosigner. When I asked why, I was told that it was because he has good credit. My question now is: why, if he has good credit, was he given loans on these terms?
Here are the terms of one of the two (they are similar): he borrowed $16, 696.18 at 9.93% interest with an index of 5.00 and a margin of 5.50. Based on the total payment amount, his effective rate seems to be 18.9%. This loan is also variable, which--although I have been told this is the norm now--I still find appalling.
So near as I can tell here is what happened: My son walked into the bank (apparently with the word "sucker" stamped on his forehead), and sat in a chair, where one single bank representative assisted him in acquiring over $33, 000 in student loans over the phone. (So although these loans seem to be from two "different" banks, the person assisting him knew exactly how much he was taking out.)
Bottom line: my son, before even setting foot on campus, will owe over $120, 000 when he graduates. IF he doesn't take out any more loans. IF the interest rate doesn't go up. (Wanna take a bet on that one?)
My son is 19. Yes, he is a legal adult. Yes, these loans are legal. But when he walked into that bank, they took advantage of him in every possible way. A "reasonable" amount to take out for a student loan is $5, 000. (They actually TOLD me that at the bank the first time we went in.) But there is nothing "reasonable" about these loans. I don't know how they could have made them any worse.
My son will have to be accountable for being stupid. I'm not letting him off the hook. But I want to know if I have any recourse to holding the bank accountable for being UNETHICAL. Just because this was "legal" doesn't mean I intend to let them off the hook, either. Any suggestions?
I work in a financial aid office at a private college and have just met with our Chase Bank rep. He told me that the highest possible rate for a student who applies for a Chase Select loan without a cosigner is prime plus 6%. If the student has a cosigner it could go as high as prime plus 5.5%. Are you sure about the rate that he was given? Was it called the Chase Select loan? They do have other private education loans as well. And it is true that 99.9% of private loans have variable rates. I did have a student who found a private loan through her own state's guarantee agency that had a fixed rate. You could always have him get another private loan elsewhere and have the Chase one returned. The financial aid office at his college can help him with this but they will most likely require that the new funds be there first before they will return Chase's funds.
illegal collection practice, harrassment, retaliation
I am a former employee of Chase Auto Finance Roseville, CA. I my employment was terminated for not participating in Chase Roseville's illegal collection practices (among other things, such as standing up for myself while working in a hostile work environment, retailiated against, discriminated against... etc... ).
I have retained an attorney who has been in contact with Chase's attorneys and Chase is emphatically denying that they have any illegeal tatics that have have come out of this office.
I am wondering if anyone has dealt with this office and can be of some assistance to my attorney and me.
Please contact me if you have ANY information at all regarding Chase Auto Finance, Roseville CA
I would love to file a lawsuite against these [censor], the only problem is each time I spoke to somone they gave me a false name. When I would follow up I was tols that person does not work there. Im not even sure what office I was speaking with. I called and to get a deferment because my wife was ill and in and out of the hospital which led to loss of wages. I spoke to a Kristy who said if I paid $400 they would defer the next month payment. the next month came and went and I recieved a knock on the door to reposess the car. When i called the collections department and explained that I had a deferment they called me a liar and said there is not a Kristy that works for Chase. A calss action law suite needs to be filed against these people. They should be investigated and the CEO should be locked up for allowing this behavior.

Wow this is weird. I typed complaints for illegal collections practices in Google to complain about Chase Auto Finance and the weirdest thing occurred! At the top of the list was this complained about the VERY company that has been harassing us for sooo long to the point of insanity. CHASE! Not coincidence I would guess. They are horrible and completely out of all legal bounds at least one employee in Roseville that my wife and I constantly deal with. The threats she spews are not only discomforting but highly illegal and soon rewarding of a lawsuit if someone can not help me bury this employee. She has been warned TIME and TIME again to not call my wife's place of employment and she IGNORES every request and sometimes retaliates by zeroing out to my wife's manager and co workers to openly discuss our personal matters with third parties all while NEVER repeating the fair debt practice required by LAW. Please help me any one who can.
Im not sure where my office is located, but I would love to talk to your attorney and tell him a few horror stories we have had with Chase. We were only 18 days behind and they sent out 3 repo letters, and then after we paid it they still sent another one. They are constantly calling and making threats.

I took an offer from Chase a while ago to transfer balances. They promised a low fixed rate for the life of the loan. I paid a balance transfer fee at that time. I have paid the debt down from $20, 000 to $13, 900 so far, always paying the minimum or more. They informed me today that my minimum monthly payment will be raised from $280 to around $700. I will not be able to afford this. I am a sole proprietor and a single woman. I have been just making ends meet recently. My credit is still good but this looks like it could push me into bankruptcy. I have read numerous accounts of other hardworking people who are in the same boat because of Chase's policy. There is no "opt out" clause. It seems that Chase is doing this to their customers who contracted with them for a lower rate and they are now breaking that contract with us. Furthermore, this could turn into a personal financial disaster for myself and many others and possible cause a second mass default crisis in this country, (this time with credit cards rather than mortgages). This move by Chase blatantly flies in the face of the spirit of the new law which is supposed to protect consumers from unfair practices by big financial companies. From the outside, it does not look like good business either. The amount defaulted by exhausted working people may indeed exceed the moneys redeemed by the extra fees and charges.
