promotional rate change
Like many other people who have posted complaints about Chase's unconscionable change in promotional rates, I never received the notification which Chase allegedly sent in November, 2008. I called their customer service number to request a copy of the notice, and the representative agreed to send it. What I received from Chase, however, was a note claiming I had agreed to the change in terms involving a higher interest rate.
I called back to advise Chase i had never agreed to a change in the rate, and that I had only requested a copy of the new terms. The high-handed, snooty supervisor I spoke with said that there is no way Chase can send a letter describing the terms without actually changing the terms. After further, heated discussion, he said they will change my terms back to the original promotional rate with the higher minimum payment and the $10monthly service charge. We'll see if this happens. In the meanwhile, you would be well advised not to request a written statement of the terms if you just want to find out what they are.
To "someonewhoknowsbetter:"
I am the poster of the initial complaint. If ever there were a misnomer, "someonewhoknowsbetter is it." First, you completely missed the point of my posting. It was simply that you should not ask for a written statement of the new terms unless you are willing to agree to the new terms. Chase will take your mere request as agreement.
Moreover, the issue is not as one-sided as you imply in your simplistic ramblings. Chase made a promise to those who took advantage of a promotional offer to extend the low interest rate for the life of the balance. Irrespective 9of any right they reserve for themselves to change the terms at will, they made a specific promise which they are now trying to evade through subterfuge. If you had any understanding of the law of contracts--which you don't--you would appreciate that specific terms, such as the low-interest promotional offer good for the life of the balance, take precedence over general terms, such as a general right to change terms at will.
You were not privy to my conversation with the customer service supervisor. On what possible basis, then, do you challenge my characterization of the supervisor's attitude?
And on what possible basis do you question the motives and character of the myriad people who have complained about this issue, none of whom you know?

chase auto=manipulative, dishonest, and bullies
I received a call today from a guy at chase auto finance...very untrustworthy and manipulative. I asked him for docs. related to my car that was repo'd (voluntarily) and sold at an auction by chase. and the tone in his voice changed!...he eventually said my 04 landrover discovery was sold for 1800...lol! a car that i payed 26000 for! less than 2yrs ago!..these guys are thieves and will be reported. he called to do ME a FAVOR...he wanted to SAVE me money...unbelievable. i got myself into a very very bad loan with chase auto finance and Luxury motors in illinois...these people have no morals..they are thieves that prey on people. a $26000 car, with credit score in the mid 600's was financed close to $46000 and for 7yrs...i cannot believe what i got myself in!

Dealing with loan fraud from Chase for my Mom. Chase participated in loan fraud to get a loan approved by knowingly accepting falsified documents. AS expected with outrageous loan fees, the car was eventually repoed. They claim they only got $450 for a $6700 car at auction. That's a junk yard dump price. After "fees" this only left $125 toward the pay-off, and other fees consumed that, so she got less than zero credit for repo and auction. It would have been cheaper to dump the car in a lake or set it on fire than let these Chase A-holes repo it. Incidentally they also did an illegal foreclosure on m sister, and stole 10s of thousand in equity. It's easy to abuse people in hardship knowing they have limited option in defending themselves from their standard legal scams. Chase took a large part in creating these hardships due to their greed, lack of competence or no concern with following legal requirements except how to bypass them, and no concern with responsibility on their part beyond getting as much money out of people as they can. They are proven liars and thieves in many legal cases, yet they have the nerve to get on here and lecture others about personal responsibility. Chase reps should have a special place in Hell. DO NOT waste you time trying to work anything out with their a-hole phone rep people. Just get the legal info you need. Record the calls for proof, as they often lie on the phone and say illegal things, more-so than in writing. . Force all information to be put in writing. Have a lawyer check it out against your own true information. They count on consumers not being able to protect their rights.
Got a call Monday by someone posing as "investigator Garcia". A reverse lookup phone number check revealed the number is from the "campus Habitat" in Carbondale, Illinois. There is a huge university in Carbondale, Illinois. Why would an "investigator" be calling me from a "campus Habitat"...The initial message was just, "this is investigator Garcia, please call me at [protected] at ext. 114 regarding case # 238725. I tried to call back and did not get a live person. I was sent from the 114 extension to "dial 0" for the next available investigator. I never did get a human. I left a message. I called my local police to inquire if this as part of a scam. They had no notifications it was. So Investigator Garcia called me today at work. She said she was hired by Chase for reposession of our truck. I needed to disclose the location of the truck. I told her that my local police department advised me to get the company name of the caller, she refused stating that she was hired by Chase to repossess my truck. I again refused to give her any information and she would not relent to my request to identify what company she is with. I hung up on her. I did an internet search that alerted me to the fact that Chase Auto Finance Collections department (at least in several states) pose as police and harass people. When my husband called the collections department, he spoke with Kim and was advised our truck payment was past due (they say 73 days because they posted my last payment to "principal" and therefore it did not post properly, thus alerting that I did not make a payment.) They had left me several messages (let me just say they call, and this is NO joke 6-10 times a day from different phone numbers). I had spoken to a collections gentleman in September and made arrangements for payment; which he and I were satisfied with the plan. This lady went on to state they have me in reposession of my vehicle unless I pay $563.74 NOW, TODAY, over the phone, Not, tomorrow morning (it's 5pm here) NOW. I don't have the money until an electronic deposit hits at midnight. Nope, not good enough, I have to pay NOW. It was suggested I borrow it and call back tonight with a payment. Let me say again, it's 5 pm. My bank does not apply payments after 5 to the same day, it gets credited to the next business day. Needless to say, this lady was very unhelpful and unwilling to allow me 24 hours to get to the bank. I am a nurse and I leave at 5:30 am and get home around 4:00 pm. I have never tried to avoid my responsibility and have always paid, albeit late, but pay. The economy is bad and I just found a job a year ago. CHASE is using illegal tactics to frighten people into sending them money. Just beware! If investigator Garcia calls your house.
"personal responsibility"
So does personal responsibility extend to not giving tickets to people when they speed? Should there be no enforcement of speed limits, because people 'should be personally responsible"?
Should there be no laws for people abusing their children, because it is their "personal responsbility" to insure they're not abusing their kids?
Should there be no laws for people abusing the welfare system, since "it is their personal responsibility" to insure they do not abuse it?
Seems to me, there's a one sided view to people vs. govt/corporations when either of the 3 get themselves into messes.
A person needing an auto to get to work with bad credit due to medical expenses, or other less 'practical' reasons has limited options for buying a car...the company that is offering such ludicrous terms knows full well the ability of a person to pay back extraordinary fees/monthly payments over a long term loan. Suing for the discrepancy that includes huge interest charges is immoral if the car would have been paid off from payments already made, auction proceeds, etc.
The government gets in over its head, it just raises taxes or prints more tax payer money based on nothing.
A bank gets in over its head, it begs money from the government and gets it, then gives million dollar raises to its CEOs who made the bad decisions in the first place.
But it alllll comes down to the little guy, and his need for reliable transportation...he's eventually raped in a financial transaction and when he's set up to fail from the beginning there's no common sense approach to stop this cycle.
You know what you can do with your "personal responsibility"?
You can tell this kid that he'll have to ride around in a deathtrap on his visits to the doctor, or to school because his parents didn't want to get raped over a simple auto loan.
I agree with Jsmithee. You signed a contract for specific terms. You also signed saying you read and understood the contract. You can't expect for them to give you money and then not recover the amount owing on the loan.
I see a lot of complaints on here about this kind of thing. I just wonder where is the personal responsibilty.
Binding arbitration applies to you suing them, not the other way around.
They sold the car at auction, and deducted the amount they got for it from the amount of your remaining balance. Someone still has to pay that remaining balance, and that someone is you.
They don't care about what other expenses you may have, they are also an expense that you will need to fit into your budget. making that much money in the past, you must have gained at least a little knowledge of how things work. You can't just walk away from a loan.
CHASE AUTO FINANCE: A BUNCH OF UGLY PEOPLE!
I financed a 2004 Toyota Rav4 during a period when I was making 134K/yr. It was still a "pricey loan" at 11% then. AFter paying on it for several years, I suffered multiple hospitalizations/disabilities and ended up with a 42K job (which I'm grateful to have). Chase repo'd the car, and sold it at auction. Now trying to get me to pay the "balance" on the loan. Is this possible? They have the collateral? They sold the car? I'm paying 53% of my current salary in child support, and I'm lucky to clear $616 every two weeks (child support is $809 every two weeks)! I rent, don't have any other means, do I just declare bankruptcy? If that's what they force me to do I guess I will, but I was beaen up brutally by the phone calls at home, work, cell threats and lots of things I assumed were illegal. This is crazy. I'm trying to get my child support reduced in this neanderthal state. I'm still paying on an emancipated child! Finally, a hearing on the 28th. We'll see, I have nothing they can take! Will a judge allow them to garnish my wages after they took the car. Also, there was a binding arbitration clause in the loan. Don't they have to follow that?
fraudulent charged on a credit card
I had never received a credit card from chase #[protected] which showed on my credit report from equifax, transunion and experian that I had a 60 days late.
I already sent the complains to chase bank they said thay will send to the credit bureau to fix this problem, since the know that I had never received that card. But until now equifax and transunion still had this problem on file, even experian
Already cleared this bad item from after receiving my letter.
I thought when you did have a bad item in your credit, all 3 credit reports had them in their records, then when a bad item had been cleared from one credit bureau the others should have the bad item cleared for you too, why the did not do that,
Then you have to send to 3 different companies for the same item to be cleared?
Please help me to clear my credit for something I did not do.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Mrs tuyet nguyen 1/22/09

Do not allow anyone to tell you that they will take care of your problem for you. When disputing credit charges, always, always send a copy of your complaint to the business that committed the error, all three credit bureaus and the Better Business Bureau. I found out the credit bureaus allow my contact information to be sold to anyone claiming to be a business! I found out the credit bureau is the reason why I am receiving junk mail!
$10 fee and minimum payment due
Beware all Chase credit card holders. Starting this month, Chase is charging a $10.00 monthly service fee and raising the minimum due on balances from 2% to 5%. Everyone who took advantage of low interest rate balance transfers will be subject to these new charges even though you transferred your balances in good faith thinking that Chase would actually...

I've had several banks servicing my mortgage loans and have never had any complaints till Chase Bank took over my loan! Their customer service is awful. They do not want to hear you out, whether you're having a problem or just needs some questions answered! When you ask the customer service rep to transfer you to a supervisor they claim there is no supervisor available. They have a tone like they are going for employee of the month all the time! In these hard times they do not have any sympathy or care in the world if you are out of work or struggling to make payments. They need to send those people back to school. If I could get rid of them as my lender I would do it in a heartbeat!

all departments
No wonder the banks are failing. First of all I cant imagine how they will continue to stay open since they have worthless customer service reps. Lets just say when you call their customer service line you will be hung up on, transferred, or just plain lied to. It happens that I spent fifty seven minutes on the phone trying to pay my home-equity line of credit payment unbelievable I was hung up on, then transfered and hung up on and then when I finally got to the correct person they wanted to charge me 15.00 fee just to make a payment. I normally pay my payment on line with their website but the system wouldnt allow me something wrong with their upgrade in the system. "hello" you better beleive there is something wrong with their system its called (Ignorant customer service reps and rude nasty foreign speaking and american speaking call center reps. Oh yea no need to call them they have no one they can give you to complain to and beleive me you wont get a supervisor. I thought it was pretty funny when I ask for the president of the company's email I was told we dont have internal email? Haha everyone knows better than that one. Glad to say I am closing my accounts with them and going with another business. I am sure I wont be missed I am just another account to them.

removing name from public documents as mortgage holder
REVISED 12/30/2008-2nd
Josie Harris P.O. Box 608574, Chicago Il 60660 ; [protected]
[protected]@yahoo.com
Legal Property Description: 2378308 Condominiums; are eight individual townhouses described on a document entitled Plat of Survey filed with the County of Cook, Illinois .
Complaint: Using file information obtained from the Cook County Recorder of Deeds claiming they own Josie Harris’s Townhouse Property at 7443 North Ashland Torrick Ward, Sue Smith and Mitchell Asher sold Harris property at a foreclosure for back taxes after obtaining possession as owners by using a 1998 lis pendens that was settled in chancery and results not entered into the computer. The condominium was purchased by Harris as an individual townhouse separated by a wall and described as real estate property in documents. In addition, the transfer of property (lien) from Mellon to Chase Finance Home was not entered into Eugene Moore Document Website (Cook County Recorder of Deeds (Exhibit 1).
Ashland Home Condominium Association (2378308 Condominium) claimed in Housing court they owned Harris’s property at 7443 North Ashland .
Torrick Ward, J.D., Homeowner and litigator for the City of Chicago argued in court they (Ashland Home, Sue Smith, and he owned Harris’s condominium unit within a building). The Cook County Recorder of Deeds contained false information regarding ownership. A Lis Penden was filed in 1998 (mortgage foreclosure) describing Harris’s property as a building with one address. Freddie Mac and Mellon settled the case with Harris being compensated for the wrongful complaint and the complaint dismissed as a nonsuit (Exhibit 2). However, the results of the Lis Penden were not recorded. Sue Smith and Torrick Ward, J.D., owners of condominiums at 7437 and 7439 respectively claimed they bought Harris’s property for back taxes from Mellon after suing Harris in rental court. Since the results of the Mellon foreclosure was not recorded at the Cook County Recorder of Deeds, Torrick Ward, J.D. argued in court Ashland Home Condominium and he were the
owners of Harris unit and she refused to pay rent. Harris current mortgage holder was not named in the lawsuit and refused to become involved when notified by telephone and mail and are not noted as Harris’s mortgage holder in the public document.
Chase Home Finance is the current mortgage holder for the property. Harris contacted Chase and informed them Ashland purchased the townhouse property for $90, 000 after selling for back taxes which did not exist. They mailed documents stating the townhouses should only be sold as condominiums. Harris’s taxes are current and remained current the time the property was assigned to Chase from Mellon. Chase Home Finance refused to enter a statement or honor the attached rider and refused to change the assignment from Mellon to chase at the Eugene Moore Website; they claimed it would take time to make the correction (Exhibit 3).
I informed (by documents in case 05 M1 729339) Mitchell Asher, J.D. and S. Rissar, Ashland Homes Lawyer, at 157 North Brockway, Palatine Illinois 60067. Who then told me “too bad” I should have had a lawyer to protect my rights. They claimed the condominium is owned by their clients. They refused to accept documents during discovery, changed document dates, claimed I was a renter and the Association owned the property and obtained possession of the property for his clients.
Judge Garber stated I should stop paying the mortgage. During a December 15 or 16 court date Judge Garber told me to stop paying my mortgage. He stated I had lost the property based on the information given to him by Torrick Ward, J.D, Sue Smith, and Richard Giaconda. This would allow them to then pay my current mortgage company the $23, 000 I owe on the property through the possession order issued by Judge Garber.
I am asking that my property be returned to me. Using the documents from the Moore Web site and then Judge Garber insisting I stop paying my mortgage would give Torrick Ward and Sue Smith my property at the default price of $23, 000 using the court system to carry out this scheme and refusal of Chase to intervene.
I am requesting that the people that engaged in this fraud be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I am homeless based on thief of property using false documents by Torrick Ward that is employed by Richard J. Daley as a litigator for the County
I am homeless and have had trouble securing a lawyer because of the Eugene Moore Website which that has been modified to show Ashland Home Condominium is the Grantor and Josie Harris, Grantor with removal of Chase as Grantor allowing them to illegally obtain my property in rental court as owners and then sell the property for back taxes which do not exist and I do not owe.
ps. They describe the townhouses as a unit with property to easily move between describing the townhouses as a unit without additional property owned.
Discovered today Querrey and Harrow are employed by the City of Chicago. The reason they were able to
modify and change my accounts because not only do they work for the city they are also representing one of the homeowners that works for the city, torrick ward. I have several people state the city took your property. They used city documents to acquire the property. This is a ssick group.
Response to my own complaint (josie harris). I am not a lawyer and in my opinion some lawyers are involved in the taking of the property. Although most complaints are about Chase, individual lawyers and city workers are benefitting from your property. You have to complete your research, find out which lawyer represent edyou, find out your bank name, check the public records, and specifically, specifically, watch the appeal process. A clerk of the court prepares the record and she prepares the record to aid lawyers. Take a snapshot of papers prepared for the appellate court and then request a copy of the record the judges used in the appeal process. Try and obtain a copy of the appellate opinion and make sure they did not take any evidentiary support that you filed and used it to make their case. Know every lawyer and their firm involved in your case, review their strategy, their is usually a pattern set by the defense. Good luck! Expose their strategies and they will fall, topple like a house of cards. Imagine going to school to steal.
One of the lawyers in my case ran for public office, citing my case as a win, another went to another law
firm citing a new law used to take property. In addition, sign off on what what your current lawyer is expected to do. Write down the results of your find and certify how you expect him to represent you in court, both sign. If he changes the strategy you will have documentation. I am praying for each one of you but now is not the time to cry, it is time to research, write, and fight this system of injustice.
don't pay vendors and vendors go out of business
I used to work for a company in the accounting department that was awarded a huge account with Bank One now called Chase Bank. The company I worked for was a small mom and pop shop and had been in business for over 50 years. This account was to help the mom and pop shop with 70 employees pay off their building loan as this account was in the million...

As a single and uneducated woman as far as mortgages are concerned, I refinanced my home (33 years here) to get money for college for my kids, pay off bills, get a decent vehicle so I could get to work. I did this with a referral to a supposed honest company. Well, it wasn't Great Day Lending aka Good Day Lending took the initial paper, charged me outrageous fees, and then in 90 days sold to Peoples Finance. Chase "services" my loan. Their service has included forcing me to give them a tracking number and check number even though I told them I always go to the local Chase branch and pay cash for the mortgage payments. They insisted on the personal information, then said they promised not to deposit the check, and told me to call in teller number and receipt information, which I did.
They deposited my check anyway, and of course, the money wasn't in the account as I had told them it would not be. I pay cash at the branch. Had to go through hell and incur fees because of their error.
Also, they applied "their insurance" when they said I had no coverage. I pay my homeowners a year at a time. They have refused to reimburse for that charge.
My interest rate adjusted, and I immediately began the process of working on this through modification programs. They promised both myself and the group that has rescue funds they would not file foreclosure documents while I was in the process of the modification. They filed anyway, racking up legal fees, embarrassing me by having the Sheriff bring the papers, and upsetting me to the point that I didn't know if I was going to be thrown out or what. My 78 year old mother had to sign for the papers while I was working. The group that has the funding also contacted Chase to remind them that they said they would withhold filing foreclosure until a decision was made on the modification.
They granted me the modification, would not adjust paperwork to allow for a $3000.00 contribution payment I could have received from this group even after I called and asked them to explain why they would not want a $3000.00 payment instead of $695.00 which is what they asked for. The $3000.00 would have benefited both Chase and me.
I received modification papers that had incorrect dates on them. They asked for the good faith payment by January, then called in November and asked where the payment was. I read from the documents they sent, they realized there was an error and gave me two weeks to get the money, keeping in mind I should have had until mid-January.
I had an appointment with the group handing the rescue funds and drove through a blizzard while on duty for my job...taking twin 8-month old babies to make sure the documents were notarized and Fedexed to arrive on time. The AKron group notarized all documents and enclosed "their" check and Fedexed the package.
They also told me that the good faith payment "had to be there" by the time the first regular payment was due...which was January.
Regardless, I knew the modification and check had been sent. I didn't hear anything from Chase regarding the new payment amount so I contact them. They first indicated they didn't get the modification back. The Akron group called and they said they got the mod but not the check, then they said they got it all, but at wrong address.
The Akron group, which has been helping thousands of people with these rescue funds, got an address from someone at Chase and mailed to documents and check. They mailed it to AZ when if should have gone to CA.
It arrived by the date they wanted it, just at another Chase location used by the Akron group.
THEY CANCELLED MY MODIFICATION. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY $4500.00 FOR A 3 MONTH TIME FRAME TO SEE IF THEY WILL GIVE ME A NEW MODIFICATION.
Now they will take the $3000.00 to cover the additional legal fees that will bill me to duplicate the first foreclosure, which should never have been filed.
I am trying to work with ESOP and supposedly they have a lot of power against Chase. They know they are fraudulent in more ways than this. I worked on this issue since April 08 and finally got it finalized, and because someone else sent the information to an alternate address, I could become homeless. I am 55 and work 50 or more hours each week just to have a place to live.
I had a appraisal done on this home and it is currently worth $60, 000 less than I owe, and part of what I owe are fees added on by Chase due to modification. Now they will duplicate those fees and possibly not give me another modification.
Their reps are arrogant and unfeeling, Nazis.
Anyone have any help for me? I owe about $125, 000 on a 69, 000 house. Would love to walk and purchase one of the houses similar that are now selling for 40, 000 to 60, 000.00. That would make my life so much easier, could sleep at night.
Please help

I too have been a victim of Chase so called Mortgage Modification. They put me on a Modification a year ago and they said I just need to get a negotiator assigned to my file and that I had all documents. I called a week later and they said I was missing my 2009 tax return and 4506T document, which I faxed 3 different times to them. They are crooks and they don't want to give people Mods, they will make more money on foreclosures. In the long run we will all lose, even the banks because America will fall just like the Roman Empire because of these greedy people that run the banks. The biggest blame goes to our President Obama, he promised alot just to get voted into office and has delivered nothing. Just goes to show you that these people that call themselves our leaders are only in it for themselves and their glory. You all should do what I did and file Bankruptcy to keep these greedy [censor] from going after you after they sell your house to collect balance due before it's too late.
Sounds to me like you need to get yourself in order... Stop playing the pitty card, and just do the best you can do each day and everything will work out fine. Yes you man need to downsize, but its time to start living within your means...
Lets look @ this from another angle... If you were to sell your car to the neighbor, and they failed to pay make the monthly payments you would do everything in your power to get it back correct, thats what chase is doing. Afterall, if your house is in foreclosure status you havent paid anything for atleast 6 months. Let me ask you... IS CHASE YOUR DADDY? I think not so WHY should they be paying your mortage then?
It sounds to me like you made some bad financial decisions and should have asked yourself... Can I afford to do this.
Suck it up, stop playing the victim card, and with some honest effort you will succeed (Be a good spirited American)... KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. . YA, the sting of the truth hurts sometimes, but this is the reality of the situation...
I also have been cheated by Chase. I purchased a townhome in August 2007 and made my payments for 2 years. My taxes doubled and my fixed mortgagte went up to an amount that i could not pay. I applied for a loan remodification. I submitted everthing they asked me for. They sent me the terms to my remodification, which detailed that I make 3 trial payments. The signed document that Chase returned to me lists the 3 payments and after I made these payments i would receive a remodification. After the three payments were made, I received nothing but collection calls. I called them several times and t hey told me I had to keep making payments. THis was not listed in the signed remodification agreement they sent me. Now they are going through with the forclosure. Now I have to find an attorney, because Chase didnt do what they said they would.
I have been working with Chase for 16months and every time they tell me something, I call back and someone else tells me something else. It is a catch 22, they don't want us to have a home. I found out today that our loan is a Fannie Mae loan, they only service it. We are nothing to chase, if they modify our loan they lose the interest, if they close on it they get money. So it seems that only they banks get richier and we get to be homeless. Every moth they drag this out we are getting further behind. They gave us a forbearance amount and tacked on the differance to what we owe. We got 2 months behind due to Hurricane Ike, they offered to put the payments on the end of our loan. But, then called back 3 months later and said sorry they need it all now. We did not have 3500. so they offered us a modification. We have aquired late fee's for the months they held our payments in a suspence account and did not apply, so now we owe 7000.00, yes it more than doubled. We are sank, we have no family to go and live with. We are 48, 45, and 11 years old. It just sucks. We have called everyday for over a year and every time we call we get a differant answer to the same question. Yet we can not get a person to call us back or send us anything in writing. Last papers from them April 2009. It is now Feb 2010. Scam artists are what they are. Sorry to vent but I really hope enough of us get together and file a lawsuit.
This is a scary story-that can happen to anyone, sorry it's happened to you.
As Michael Moore says-this Mortgage Crisis is caused by Banks and Lending Institutions.
It isn't as if they don't have the $$$$$-they're just sitting on it-they wait til someone's in foreclosure-til the last minute (and they say-the Banks don't want U to lose UR Home-this is just talk). The Banks have people working for them-calling U, oh, you need to come UP with UR missed payments+late fees+attorney fees and it'll be 2 wks. 'til we get a NEGOTIATOR-BECAUSE WE'RE SWAMPED WITH CASES LIKE URS-WE'RE LIMITED IN PEOPLE. THE CALLER SAYS "THIS CALL IS MONITORED", BUT WHEN THEY CALL U-SORT OF THREATENED U-TO PAY UP-U MENTIONED THE CALL-BEING MONITORED-THEN THEY SAY"OH I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING". ONE CAN EVEN COMPLAIN TO THEM-NO COMMENT
finance charges
Today I received a statement in the mail detailing what I owed, what was due, etc. I was very surprised and annoyed to learn that a $39.00 late fee and almost $17.00 in finance charges were included. I was surprised because I paid the last bill I received (as I do all of my bills - always on time and in full, without exception).
I immediately phoned the customer service department and was told they were not going to do anything about it. I escalated the call to a supervisor who echoed that position. I was told the following: "The statements we send are a courtesy; it is your responsibility to know how much you owe and when" and "We are not the post office; we can't control whether you receive your statement or not"
I asked if the position they were taking is really more important to them than over 20 years of having me as a customer. Her response? "We understand that occasionally a customer will feel the need to end a relationship upon hearing news of this sort" (or something like that). I was stunned.
I plan to visit my local branch tomorrow and see if sense prevails in person. If not, I plan to cancel my credit cards, close my three accounts, encourage my family to do the same, and at every opportunity, share my horrendous experience with anybody I can. JPMC may get $55.00 from me, but if I can help it, they will lose much, much more than that in future business.
I might even understand this stubborn position if they had actually lost something tangible, like a piece of merchandise or something, but to not budge on an arbitrarily determined 'late fee' and some finance charge seems ludicrous. I have fantastic bill-paying history with not only Chase, but everybody; you would think that such things would be considered before taking the stand they did.
Too bad, Chase; it was a nice run while it lasted. Now I will find a new credit card provider and a new bank. And I will encourage everybody I know to do the same.

I had the EXACT same encounter with Chase. I suspect this may be the case especially with customers like us who pay our balance in full, etc.
In my case we didn't recieve EITHER Chase paperless statement availability notice for both of our credit cards and then they refused any leniancy even given our good standings with both cards our mortgage, etc. They just look for a reason to get their little bit of money out of you then drop you cuz you are costing them too much money in the long run. Unbeliveable.
I had the same encounter. Good customer of Chase slapped with late fees and finance charges for missing some part of the payment by a day. I am in the process of closing all my Chase accounts and credit cards. I have some stock of JPMorgan that I am planning to get rid of.
The same thing happened to me ... I did not receive my statement so I missed the payment and got hit with the late fee and finance charges. I spoke to both a rep and the supervisor and got the same answer ... that even though I did not sign up for electronic statements (which I never did), they will not reverse the charges.
I spoke with a friend who also has chase cards and asked about the electronic statement issue ... I was told that her experience has been that Chase's website is setup to automatically click the electronic statement toggle sometimes depending on what you do on the website. That's great if you notice it right away and untoggle it.
What a scam! I guess Chase needs to make up for the losses from WAMU by using unethical means to generate revenue.
I had a run in with Chase several years ago. They bought out one of my credit cards and raised the rate for no justifiable reason. I closed the account and swore I would never use Chase again. Round number two, they bought out my bank WAMU, and took over yet another credit card of mine. When we found out we closed all of our checking accounts and hoped that the credit card terms would be honored. HA, I guess I forgot who I was talking about it. Sure enough I am in a dispute with them and will close this account as well. It was a good card with good terms through WAMU. What a shame. You google Chase and you get pages and pages of complaints but apparently they are so uncaring about the customer that we ALL must stand up and encourage congress to take actions against these companies that prey on consumers like this. I am writing congress today to let them know about these sly practices of Chase. PLEASE DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR DO NOT USE CHASE!
I have been a Chase cardholder for at least a decade, and have never missed a payment, and paid each statement in full each month. decided to go To "paperless billing" in December, and set it up on the Chase web site.
I noted on my calendar when to expect the email announcing billing, but it never came. I checked my spam filter too. By the time I checked the web site, it was several days past the usual due date. (That was my mistake - I should have checked the day of the usual billing.)
I was told they didn't know why the email didn't arrive. They had me sign up for a telephone notice, and double-checked my email. They also took back the $39 late fee.
The next month, the email arrived on the expected date, and there was an $18.50 finance charge. I called the company and asked to have that waived, and was told that they can waive the late fee or the finance charge, but not both. When I said that I was disputing the finance charge, because the previous late payment was their error, I was told they are not responsible for email problems, and repeated the story told in the original poster's story, that they are not responsible for the postal service either. They also noted that the $18.50 fee had already been paid, because it was included in the total from the month before. (Funny, I didn't see that in the previous statement.)
I canceled the card, and the supervisor taking my call wasn't the least bothered. . The letter acknowledging the cancellation included a note that there might be additional fees.
Well, this month, they attached a $3.09 finance charge, due to the late payment I disputed back in January and partially won, with the reversal of the late fee.
I'm starting to wonder if Chase is scamming customers with late paperless statements, so they can start to accrue fees.

O my God! I think that Chase company is extremely unethical. It feels like the company is committing a fraud. Same thing happened to me. I've been using the same credit card for about 10 years. I've always made my payments on time and in full. I send my payment one day after I received my statement. To my surprise on my next statement I saw late payment fees and finance charges. I called Chase customer service immediately and the representative told me that probably the mail-man didn't deliver my payment on time because of the busy holiday season but I still have to pay late fees. In addition he didn't want to tell me his last name. He said it was the company's policy. He suggested himself that I should talk to his supervisor. The supervisor introduced himself but he couldn't help me either. I did ask him, how can I make sure that my next payment will be processed in time. He said that I should use the phone service or pay my bills online and if I will continue to pay my bills by mail he can't gurantee anything. In addition he said that I can cancel my credit card but I still have to pay the fees. When I asked to speak to his supervisor he said that he will not take my call because he doesn't deal with issues like that and he is the only person that I can talk to. I had a feeling that I wasn't the only one. I wonder how many honest people were wrongfully charged? What is going on? Why would they encourage people who have no problems paying to cancel their credit cards? Do they need to make quick money by using cheap tricks? I filed a complaint with better business bureau and I will write to Chase complaint department. I urge everybody to take action. Hopefully it will change things for better.
back dated interest
I experienced this company's unfair business practice...after 27 payments, the final one mysteriously was late [although sent on time] and they back charged me interest from the start of the plan. I found out from a local credit / debt lawyer that this is unethical...find your old statements and if the charges were not on those statements, they cannot 'post date' them. Good luck...I am about to start my challenges to them.
DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!>...write to the ADA and dentists supporting them.
I paid my bill faithfully, in fact, I paid more than the payment due. However, my bills stopped coming. Then, I got a call from Chase telling me that I had 24 hours to pay before my account went to collections. I asked the woman, Belinda, who was very rude, what the pay off was. Sent them the entire payoff by express mail. We'll see whether I hear any more from them. Since I have a very good credit rating and always pay my bills on time, I think this is a shoddy business practice used to ensure that they can level higher interest rates rather than the 0% promised. I will never use them again and recommend you notify your dentist of these practices.
I agree! Do not let your dentist or doctor finance your bill through this company! I never received my first statement and therefore didn't know who to pay or how much to pay. I received my first statement with a late fee stating I was over 10 days late. I paid the bill immediately and then a couple days later received a letter stating since my bill was late, the agreement to finance for 12 months interest free deal was off. I called the company and explained that my dentist in VA (I live in NC) didn't give me the details of who he was sending the financing thru and stated that I would receive a bill in the mail. I waited, but it looks like they intentionally sent the bill out late to accuse me of not paying on time. The customer service people I spoke with were rude and they would listen to the fact that my credit history and score are excelletn. Do not have anything to do with this company!
Definately agree! For starters, i never received my statements in the mail or they were late. When i questioned them, their response was 'that my mail man was taking the statements'! Then to pay on-line is such a hassel because either your sign-in name or password never works, so you have to request a new password everytime. Which of course you need your acct#, that i don't know because i don't have a statement. The customer service people are very rude (one even hung up on me!). I paid this account off as soon as possible. And definately will NEVER use Chase again!
I agree. They use unfair practices to add interest payments before you are almost finished paying the loan in full. I will never use Chase again for anything.
Intrest rate
We closed our business on 12/6. On 12/5 our credit card payment was due. Chase called me before I even got the bill showing a past due balance and started badgering me about a payment. When I got the bill I notice they had raised my intrest rate from 9.9 to 27.99%. I called them to arrange payments close the card and get the intrest rate reduced. They did set up payments and change the ongoing rate to 12 %. I asked that the current intrest amout be ajusted for the current month. They said they could but only after the first payment was made on 1/5/2009. The payment was made and I called back to get a credit for the intrest charged over the original rate 9.9 or the new rate of 12%. I was told now after I had made payment arragements and made the first payment they would not do it. Ms Williams was the representative that checked with her supervisor when I made arrangements for payment. She told me they could do it. Jennifer was the second representative I called on 1/8/09 that refused to adjust my intrest rate.
I will never do business again with CHASE bank. After what each American citizen has done by bailing these banks out they pay us back by charging 27.99% intrest. I think that is criminal! They tell you one thing to get you to pay then do another.

overcharge dispute
Like others complaining about Chase Visa, I too pay my balance regularly. I use the card for everyday expenses to take advantage of the perks. Nonetheless, my wife and I spend modestly. However, over the past year we have found how inept and incompetent their customer service, if you want to call it that, is.
I needed assistance with an overcharge dispute of over $1500. I contacted Chase immediately in November 2007 and was advised to dispute the charges and was sent the proper paperwork. Four months later I contacted them to check on any progress and was told that it looked as if I were at fault. The Customer Service representative recommended I challenge the charges again, my information was updated and the paperwork sent again. I resubmitted in April 2008 and seven months later received a letter stating that my case was closed because I couldn't be reached for additional information. What? Once again, we pay our balance every month and my info was on the paperwork.
I spoke to yet another person, this time in the dispute department. He said I waited too long to dispute the charges and, even with my file "on the computer in front of him, " he had no record that I had submitted my paperwork 11 months prior. When asked why I hadn't been contacted for the necessary information he said that there was an attempt made by phone. One attempt. I sent him the original submission from 2007, by now for the third time. Two weeks later, just in time for Christmas, we were notified that he spoke to a person at the company that overcharged me and their billing person found no error in billing. Apparently, they'll take anyone's word over their customer's.
Needless to say, my wife and I spent several hours not only dealing with the company that overcharged us, but with Chase who we assumed was taking care of their customers. Instead we lose, while they let the dispute languish.
Oh well, at least it wasn't identity theft. I just wish they'd stop sending us credit card offers for our business.

fraud and scam
I was ripped off by chase credit cards. I opened couple accounts with Chase credit cards, chase freedom, chase freedom plus, countrywide credit card from chase, and BP Chase cards. When I am working on the rewards based on the rewards terms of the credit cards, they suddenly closed my accounts and take my rewards, $60 for the chase freedom, $110 from the chase freedom plus, $20 from BP credit cards, and $15 from BP credit cards, without any notice in front.

Barb, whats up with the attitude. Nice jumping to conclusions! You're a big help here--NOT. Go elsewhere with your helpfulness, maybe push an old lady in the street or something.
hi, i was scammed by a company that bp must be paying to give out gas vouchers.."gasoline redemption center".. when i got my vouchers i had to pick a station on their list.. i chose bp, since that's where my family usually goes.. we live in the chicago area... i was to recieve a $25 gas card for 12 months by sending in $100 worth of gas reciepts each month.. i have done that for 4 months now and have recieved nothing.. i called & spoke to a person in dec. & jan., only to be given the run-around (cards in the mail).. i still have not recieved a card.. i called today (2.12.09) only to find out their phone is out of order.. i checked with the better business bureu.. numerous complaints and a rating of F..i sure would like a response from bp, before i switch gas stations. thanks norb brodzinski norbbrph@comcast.net
I'm sure you were completely innocent in all this, huh? Not a missed payment or overlimit fee in your life...
payment protector
I was going over my credit card statement and noticed a 10¢ fee for a "Payment Protector" plan. While the amount of money being charged to my credit card is minute, I was pretty upset about the unauthorized charge, and being enrolled in some program I have never heard of and most definitely did not sign up for. I called Chase and asked them about it, and apparently I had been enrolled since June 2007. That was quite a while ago so I have no recollection, and this was my first charge for this plan, but I highly doubt I enrolled in any programs because I always say no thank you whenever Chase happens to be on the other end of the phone. The woman I spoke to on the phone promptly canceled the service after my complaint.
This is a rather small complaint, and pretty much harmless (10 cents is not a big deal to me), but beware of being enrolled into plans you have no interest in!

Protector charges are based on your balance, the higher the balance the more the fee. You can cancel this service anytime. I would if you never signed for it.
extortion
Chase modified my home mortgage for 6.625% in Oct. When I received my statement the interest rate said 6.6.25% HOWEVER my monthly payment was calculated at 16.625% This resulted in more than twice the payment amount I agreed to in writting. At Chase, I talked to 15 people in 6 departments across 5 states. No one would either explain the miscalculation or be willing to start any process to remedy. I will only pay these ### what I owe them on paper, nothing more. And I have paid, every month, on time ONLY THE AMOUNT I OWE IN WRITTING. So, now they are foreclosing on my home and I have to sue to get a clerical error corrected. No, this is not a joke. The amount of incompetance at this company will only be realized once you need ANY level of customer service. Stay away, go to a credit union if you can, borrow from a corner loan shark, you will be better off. Chase received 25billion of taxpayer money from the bailout. Can anyone find anybody who Chase is actually helping financially? Oh, sorry, yes, Chase is helping my Repubican congressional representitive Buck McKeon.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I asked Chase for a payoff letter on my house mid-November, asked for the payoff amount as of November 30 so I would have time to get them the payoff. They told me their payoff letter had to accompany my certified check. So, guess when I got their payoff letter in the mail? NOVEMBER 30. THEY CAN'T EVEN HANDLE A HOUSE PAYOFF TO GET THEIR OWN MONEY BACK ... IF YOU AND I WERE THIS INCOMPETENT DO YOU THINK THE CRONEY CONGRESS WOULD BAIL US OUT? SOMETHING SERIOUSLY SUSPICIOUS WITH A SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT THAT TAKES FROM HARD WORKING TAXPAYING AMERICANS AND GIVES TO WEALTHY CROOKS.
Chase (anything) is bad news. We have been dealing with them on an escrow error for 2 years and have nothing resolve with a attorney and a chapter13 bankruptcy judge looking into their business practices. Hope after our hearing something will be resolve.
The bank bail out is a joke and officials in DC need to know what these banks are getting away with.
Frustrated in Wisconsin
illegal repo and collection practices
Chase has been calling my friends and neighbors along with my Human Resource Department at my work repeatedly when i was behind in my payments. For two years never missed a paymen of 400.00t I was suspended as a result for two weeks. They sent a repo guy out to my house who had to be removed from my propoerty by the police for harassing and threatening behaviors. Repo guy three days later...attempted to run me off the road for about two miles ..came up behind me at a stop sign...smashed on my window threatening me if i didnt exit the vehicle...then jumped out in front of my truck preventing me from moving...hooked my truck and continued to jump around in traffic swearing at me..As a result of my slamming on my brakes and jerking my head sideways...I injured my neck. Finance guy Bob was aware of all this and was possibly on the phone with repo guy while he was doing this. I NOW CANT WORK RELATING TO MY INJURY ...THEREFORE COULDNT MAKE AN AGREEMENT TO BRING PAYMENTS CURRENT. After finding out I was injured as a result of Chases collection practices...his only comment was that he would be repossesing my truck immediately...Pressing charges against this illegally practicing company...STAY AWAY FROM CHASE AUTO FINANCE!

This man wanted to start a lawsuit
Please count me in! Chase repoed our SUV after 1 month late..we were told to apply for the hardship program and in fact there isnt a program. They hired a Detective service that harassed every member of my family..the repo driver was banging on my family doors at midnight! They took the SUV..we never received any notice..I was told that we could not sell the SUV since it was written off..All of our personal property was inside..No notice to claim the SUV ..What every SUV that went to auction 2X was damaged and had high miles..this was not our SUV! Took Chase a year to transfer the title and the tag was never turned in and has been ticketed to-date! We were served this week with a lawsuit for the entire loan amount and Chase took our SUV and sold it for $2600 under the blue book! Liars and Crooks! Contact your state AG and the AG office of NY you may receive a reply from Chase and catch them in a few lies! Also file with the FTC
Has anyone here taken legal action against chase for illegal repo of car? Please reply.
A wrecker driver identifying himself as an employee of chase bank came to our home to repossess our car at 6:30 am. We were 30 days late. The car was not at home at the time, so he parked his wrecker right where our children wait for the school bus.
Our children were terrified and did not want to attend school that day because this man was standing at their bus stop waiting for them. He stood there for 2 hours waiting, and stalking.
Chase Bank will resort to harassing family members including children and neighbors, they don't care. They have high powered lawyers that put them above the law.
I plan to take them on especially for this latest episode, I am not one to back down especially when it comes to my family.
I have a simular story but I was only four days late. If you are still around let me know. I have a lawyer putting together paperwork and I would like to speak with you. Bob was apart of the fraud that occured for the repo as well...
Wow, if this is true document everything and get a good attorney.File harassment and stalking charges against Chase. Contact the local news media. If they repo your car it should when its parked, they have no right to pursue you and endanger yourself and others. Chase is not law enforcement. You won't have to work for a long time if what you say is true. You should also contact the police and file charges. What you describe is criminal and the district attorney may be interested.
harassing phone calls
My brother got a loan from Chase Auto Finance and used mine and my 75 year old mother's names as references. Chase never contacted us for a reference about him, but now that he isn't paying his bill, they tell me it's my responsibility to get him to contact them. Neither of us co-signed for him (and wouldn't because we know he doesn't pay his bills). The collector who is named Miss Parker, who's phone number is [protected] ext. 1607, said that she didn't know her supervisor's extension or name and that I couldn't speak to them at that moment. I asked them to quit calling my mother, as it is very upsetting to her and has her calling me crying because she thinks she should do something. And this is impossible because she lives on Social Security. These people are heartless, blood suckers. I have given them my brother's phone number and address, and they still call us because he won't answer his phone. He's a loser, and their company is ###. I'll be filing a complaint with The Federal Trade Commission and would encourage anyone having trouble with this company to do the same.

I agree, I couldn't make my payment anymore. At one time I was working two jobs to feed the kids make the house payment and aslo, make the truck payment. I am single incomed, and when it got to be too much I had to let something go. So I called Chase and asked if I could do a voluntary repo, the guy sugested that I take it to Car Max and sell it to save my credit. I agreed. Chase agreed to the amount for the sale and took the check, leaving me with a balance. The next month I received a bill for over a thousand dollars, demanding that I make a payment of that amount. I couldn't and said so. They wouldn't budge on the payment price. Now they keep calling threatning to garnish wages, repo the truck I co-signed on..which isn't even mine. And I have to listen to their stupid hinnies every day threatning. I have kids to worry about and keeping a roof over their heads and food in their mouths. This company needs to hold up to what they promise or at least work with people who are willing to do what they can.
I know I am about a month behind on my car loan I was down to working 2 days a week they should be happy they are still receiving payments
These calls have got to stop I was at work and this lady went off!
What a way to start my morning I was in shock ready to go off on her if she called back how unprofessional.
Needless to say I will be filing a complaint with The Federal Trade Commission.
I have had the same problem but was making my payments.
Chase is a bad company with a lot of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. They got too big and now they suck.
I would just forget about it and get your son to just hand over the car and be done with it, feels great when you get them off your back.
unauthorized charges
How chase bank and columbia house stole christmas
On august 8, 2008 I purchased some dvds from columbia house, the order came to $35.84. The order was shipped missing an item after many emails and phone calls to them I finally got my remaining item but they charged me an additional three times for that one item. After another round of calls and emails I finally chalked it up to a bad experience that I would learn a lesson from.
On october 11.2008 I logged into my checking account to find that I had two pending charges of $99.76 from columbia house! I immediately called chase bank 800 where I spoke to a wonderful supervisor pat, whom advised that as they were still pending she had been able to reverse them. As a caution she advised that they could submit again as long as they had my card number and provided me the number to the chase claims department.
Immediately I began trying to contact columbia house via their email process on their website - to this day they have never responded to the dozens of emails that I have sent regarding this issue. Calls are answered by someone not qualified to handle the matter, so a supervisor will need to return your call and that never happens either.
I tried to remove my card information from their site, which the site does not allow you to do! You also can not remove the check mark in the box allowing them to use that information for any future shipments and charges! In frustration I changed the billing information on the card to big bird, 123 sesame street, new york ny 10001
On october 14, 2008 they again debited my checking account for $99.76 which resulted in chase bank charging me $75.00 and $32.00 for insufficient funds fees.
I contacted chase bank filed a claim and closed that debit card (As they would not file the claim other wise). I provided them with screen shots showing no purchases, no shipments, no pending orders since the august fiasco and was advised by angel that chase bank would be crediting back the charge and any related insufficient funds fees.
Initially they did credit back the $99.76 and the $75.00 for insufficient funds. Chase refused to credit the $32.00 as donnell advised me because a previous request had been made (The $75.00) within a 12-month period.
On november 20, 2008 chase bank reversed themselves and took the $99.76 and the $75.00 from my checking account again. I contacted chase claims department on 11.21.2008 and was advised by judy that she would re-open the claim and I would receive that information shortly. Several hours later there was still no information received. Again I contacted chase claims where upon andre advised me that I would need to speak with a supervisor whom was currently on another call and would need to call me back.
To date there has been no communication from judy or andre’s supervisor, maybe chase has columbia house train the employees in their claims department!
Thanks to grinches at columbia house and chase bank there will be no christmas in our household this year. The theft of over $200.00 from my account by these two supposedly reputable companies has ended any possibility of a celebration of any kind in my household
Be warned and take your business anywhere else

I think columbia house should be turn over to the bbb . I think its wrong to go in someone bank count and get money. How would they like for someone get into there acccounts. I 've been having problems with columbia house club too. I done it twice should learned the first time. They don't listen to you. There right your wrong. Everyone should contact the bbb thats had trouble with columbia house club. If everyone took a stand maybe they go out of business. Show then they can't just step on people. It a shame this companies do this to people. One person can't do it alone. I'm not scared of columbia house dvd club. I' m just mad. I read all the complaints they have against them. Thats alot. Thanks
The exact same thing happened to me with the New York Times in December, months after I closed my account with them (and I even had a statement showing a zero balance). It was a huge hassle; I was never able to speak to the same person at NYT twice nor was I ever able to get a last name of anyone. To this day, the NYT has no idea what the charges were for. I had to get a new card, and am now tempted to get a brand bank account because it happened yet again and they still don't know the cause of these charges. So, beware and only pay cash when purchasing the NYT (if you want to give them your business at all!).
I am having the SAME problem except with Best Buy. I purchase an xbox for a gift. Everything was fine, they took out the correct amount, and a week later, I had called because two items that were supposed to be free with this xbox bundle had been backordered. They told me that they were not "free" and I would be charged for them once they had been shipped so I told them to cancel the items. For some odd and suspicious reason... they took out every bit of my checking. Everything is gone! Immediately I hung up on BestBuy when trying to confront them about this and called Chase to report my card number as stolen. If this was a mistake or on purpose, I am not quite sure, but someone at bestbuy took my money. Hopefully Chase can recover this on Monday since I reported the card number as stolen. The guy told me that these are connected in some way but regardless since I am reporting it stolen, I have to fill out some paperwork and send it back to Chase. Since it is pending on my account, I have to wait until Monday, the guy said basically after he reported card as stolen, I would have to wait. He said it will post to my account which then they can take it off. He said something along the lines of... it might not even post to my account. Im not sure and I know that first thing in the morning I am checking my Chase online and heading over to bank to speak to them first hand and tell them what happened. Best Buy was very unhelpful during the process, saying this was not even on my account, and they would have to take it to their claims dept. After then it would take 7-8 days to even get my money back.. IF they could. I had almost 600 dollars in the account and Best Buy took it all. Hopefully Chase can recover this and since I reported it stolen. We are hoping they should. I agree with it stealing Christmas though because until this is settled I feel like a complete mess.
floating due dates = late fees
I've had a chase acct. Since '06, with a due-date of 14-16 each month. Chase changed my due date to the 9th.
Since my statement arrived at the same time, and I pay my bills on time every month, I had no reason to expect the due-date for this account to change. When I saw a late fee on my account, I called to find out why.
Despite the fact that I had a mid-month due date for years, chase said they can change my contract terms at any time. They claim "notified" me of the change when my statement arrived. The claims representative snidley commented, & ldquo;you do read your statement, don’t you?”
For the record: i’m a aaa+ customer. I have a 760 credit rating, own a home, and haven't been late on anything to anyone for 20+ years. Chase upped my due date by a week, and then accused me of being "late" (By one day) ? I've incurred late fees, and my interest went from 0.99% to 22%. I'm confident it is because I have a 15k a balance at .99%, my account was "chosen" for a new due date. They offered no reason, no criteria for why I was "selected" for a new due date. Only that my previous interest rate was no longer available. There is no co-incidence here.
The answer is not to give chase electronic access to my checking account - do these guys seem like someone who should have electronic access to your bank account?
I’ll be writing to all state and federal authorities, and contacting others with similar experiences. Please contact me directly at [protected]@yahoo.com.

When you took advantage of a promotional rate which was good till the balance is paid off..that is a contract. I have never missed a payment and have been an excellent customer. I have 22, 000 on a 25000 credit line with a 450 month payment. Imagine my surprise when chase decided 2% payment was not enough for the minimum and I had to pay 5% a month or 1150/month. I was held hostage to accept a 7.99 rate so that I could keep my monthly payments reasonable.
I took advantage of these low rates and consolidated all of my other cards, Paying a fee in transfer balances which I think was 3% each time. It is not my fault they are not making much money off my account. Chase made the offer and provided me with a high credit line so I took advantage. Now they have turned the tables on customers and are taking advantage.
All I am saying is that Other card companies have said they were changing the terms of agreements and if you did not accept the new terms, they would close the account and you could pay off the current balance under the old terms. Chase did not offer this or anything The consumer had to either pay more a month (almost tripple) or accept 7.99 until June 2011 wiping out the 3.99 4.99 or 5.99 rates that were offered until the balance was paid off.
My account will be paid off and I will never support JP Morgan/Chase products ever again. Not having good customers must be the goal.
I can't even imagine how many accounts will be forced into deliquency with these changes. The customer was defin. put last here.
Oh, and if you don't believe me, go read about the hundreds of other people screwed by Chase here:

Hey Mr. someonewhoknowsbetter:
Lets face it, your an a$$. Go somewhere else with your rhetoric as you're comments are unwelcome here. I actually know people who work for Chase and they are pissed off that the execs are doing this. Chase is blundering again (you should see how bad their IT shop is, people are leaving left and right).
Everyone here has to understand that this is a business.. you have the choice to stay or go if you dont like it leave.. here is an anology: I used to shop at the grocery store at the corner because it was close and convienient and suprisingly cheap prices however over the last 2 years prices have started going up i didnt understand he stated that because people are stealing his grocery carts and his cost of product has gone up he had to raise prices.. same situation not my fault people stole the carts or his prices have increased but I also cant expect him to take a loss on me he has a business to run.. so i chose to go somewhere else now..
Chase is no different they want these people who are only half a percent of thier customers to go somewhere else.. so do it stop complaining and do what you have to do to support your families or stay afloat. however dont complain when in 2 or 3 months other banks are going to be following their lead and doing the same thing we have a horrible out look for the future and chase has to stay in business and if that means upsetting customers who are costing them money then i say "so be it"
and lastly stop thinking that if you pay your balance in full or that you have a high credit score or that you pay more than your minimum payment makes you a great customer cause it doesnt.. you are a great customer based on the amount of money you make the bank the more finance charges you pay the more valuable you are.. this only makes sense if you owned a store and you pay 50 cents for a loaf of bread and sell one loaf to 1 customer for 60 cents and one loaf to another customer for 80 cents you of course would want customer number 2 that customer made you more money...
Richard P and Imachasehater2: Same thing happened to me regarding not getting the notification of the changes and then received "the" letter saying I had agreed to the new terms, etc. of 7.99%. I contacted them immediately upon receiving that "lie" letter. Demanded they change my account back to what it was and they compiled. My current statement for Feb reflects the "old" 2% payment requirement, refund of the $10 Service fee and the interest rate reflects the 3.99%. I will have to check on line to see if that's what it still shows. Have a good Day.
WAKE UP AMERICA, we are all like a bunch of sheep, me included. It's a SAD day when you cannot trust an institution as big as Chase. They HAVE NOT stood behind their agreement to borrow us the funds UNTIL PAID OFF (oh, I guess that includes their requirement to pay the balance off now if you don't like their terms) at the promotional rate. Forget the fact that we paid a fee up front and have made payments on time and complied with Chase's requirements. Being a good paying customer doesn't count anymore, they want you to fail, so they can make more money from us. So maybe their intent was really to have us default on loans so they could charge the higher interest rates. FYI: Someonewhoknowsbetter, I also worked in Customer Service for over 25 years at one of the four banks that received funds from the government and I can tell you that institution has a much better sense of how to treat it's customers. They would NEVER do something like this! By the way the area I MANAGED was research for customer complaints and if one of my employees had treated one of the banks customers the way I was treated when I called, they would have been fired! How Super SAD that workers must lower themselves to this kind of crap to keep a job. Let's hope they have some influence and tell their managers how much stress this creates for them. Have you read the Class Action Lawsuit that's been filed? My first conversation with the customer service rep. included my statement to her that there will be a class action law suit and I will be glad to be a part of it. UGLY UGLY UGLY BANK And SHAME ON the person who made this decision to "Make" more money off the backs of hard working American's who are responsible people. I guess if you can't collect from those who default and don't pay, then you'd better punish those who do pay. Are We Stupid? Just imagine what would happen if the majority of those who have debts simply quite paying...wouldn't take long for the whole country to really collapse. Let's hope Chase "feels" the impact this will have on their customer base.
Richard P,
Chase pulled the same fraud with me (claiming I agreed to the 7.99% rate change via a phone call). Do not call Chase to complain people! Write them and keep documentaion. I've filed my complaint regarding this fraud to my state's attorney. Whether or not Chase can change the terms of a fixed rate blanace is one thing (which will likely be decided in court), but when Chase engages in fraud, its a whole new ball game. Claiming a person agrees to something when that simply is not true, that's fraud.
CS=customer service
last post, i promise. my friend pointed out that I sound like I work for Chase. Lest they get sued over my mouth, let me make it explicitly clear that i do NOT work for Chase. I do work in CS though, and have friends in the finance industry, so I have some empathy. But enough out of me, I merely hoped some information would help you understand. Some people just love to comlpain about the injustices of the world, I guess, and who am I to stop them?
Forgive the suck it up remark. It's just that I work in customer service and even I get tired of hearing grown people have tantrums becuase "It's not fair" How many times did your mother come right back with "Life's not fair"?
