Keiser University financial aid scam

It seems that I'm having much of the same issue as a lot of other people on here. How is nothing being done about this? After 4 completed semesters, I dropped classes in my 5th semester, well within the period I was able to do so. Everything up until that point had been paid in full, I had a zero balance. I recently requested my transcripts to continue my education elsewhere, and I was told I owe $6500 and they will not release my transcripts until it is paid in full. They are accusing me of dropping classes outside of the time period I was able to do so without penalty. And when they sent me my ledger, of course it reflects their side of the story because otherwise how could they legally charge me anything. This money they say I owe them is money that was given to them from financial aid as well as the loans they make you take out, and they had to refund that money to them. So why exactly do I have to pay them money that was never theirs in the first place? It makes no sense whatsoever, and when I ask questions about it I am told that this is the way it is and I need to pay. How are they able to treat people this way? And how do they continually get away with this?!

I am in the same boat! I attended Keiser Clearwater campus for over a year, high honors program... I was pulled out of class because my financial aid ran out? I was told I could not attend classes until a monthly payment was made. After ignored phone calls to the school, ignored email to the Dean, I had enough and dropped out. Keiser says I now owe over $10, 000 at over 20% interest and can not start at another college to finish my degree. This college is not only pathetic, but a disgrace to the educational system. DO NOT ATTEND HERE!

Keiser University diagnostic medical sonography program fort myers

My daughter is currently a student at Keiser. She is going there for the Sonography program, after finishing all her core classes they told her the program is full and she has to wait a year to finish out her education. When she question this and spoke to the dean they suggested she switch her degree program. They told her she probably won't even be able to make it through the Sonography program, its too hard anyway. My daughter gets all A's and B's. What school signs you up for their program, takes your money and then halfway through tells you to take a year off or switch degrees? Now when she takes a year off she has to start paying back the student loans she took out and she doesn't have a degree yet or a high paying job. Plus she just had anatomy and physiology, she has to remember everything for a year? A lot can change in a year. I am very disappointed in how this school is run and how they treat their students. I am extremely fustrated and would not recommend Keiser to anyone.

Keiser University charging $50.00 a month

Keiser is charging $50.00 a month because I didn't have to take a loan from a bank or the school. Basically i am paying Keiser for no reason because it's not going to paying financial aid back it's just to help Kieser out... When they already are overpriced.

Keiser University balance owed

I attended Keiser University when I was much younger. I originally went to Keiser to get my Bachelors in Elementary Education and I came out of there with an AA in paralegal studies. They practically swindled me into taking the paralegal courses instead because they did not offer the Elementary Education program there. They said not to worry because I can always transfer my credits. I got approved for all sorts of student loans and financial aid. However, at the end of my career they decided to tell me that "I" did not submit my financial aid application on time and now I owe them $4000. I graduated in 2009 and I have been unable to get my transcripts or pay that outrageous amount of money so that I can further my education. I am a single mom of three boys and they will not work with me at all. They want there money and will not give me a break.

Keiser University keiser university billing

I sat with my daughter in the Financial Aid office and they very clearly explained that she was taking out an unsecured loan of $3, 500. After taking the two classes, they sent her a bill of $6900. We are OUTRAGED. They NEVER stated there was a secured loan attached to this unsecured loan. I was there... I know what we heard. Now she is committed to this loan and devastated. This is a huge financial setback for her and our family.

Do not trust what you are being told. The billing they send you in your account is so screwed up that its impossible to understand what your bill really is. They showed billing for Transportation and Housing that she never had, and they say that is standard. Then they wonder why you didn't understand why the $6, 900 was accurate. Its is to misleading...! To pay $2, 000 for each class (ONLINE !) is the so outrageous! Go to a community college... you will not get taken and wind up in deep deep debt.

They seem to be know for this. You must look at other options. Keiser has the worst reputation and so many students are caught in the promise. They are such scammer. My daughter used to work for them, she thought their tactics were disgusting.

I signed up at Keiser recently and the Financial Aide person rushed throught the process of a student load and the rates charged with no knowledge of me being able to quit within a time period. No one returns emails or messages. Once they get you through the door with all the Puff and Glory that they do you are then forgotten. Tring to get an appointment for help is awful, they never return your calls or reschedule for an appointment. I call it all PUFF and Smoke when you interview so they can get your money to enroll. Horrible Place for an education.

Keiser University daytona campus

I am a student of keiser university in the Daytona campus. I just completed my last class Friday August 21st. I passed all my classes and was assigned to my clinical site 3 weeks ago so every thing looked awesome and I was ready to go looking to the future. 4 months of clinicals and prepare to take my state exam in January. I received a call Friday at 5 pm the day I finished my final exam in the last class which I made a B in. I was called and told that I would not be able to continue on and complete my rotations because my GPA was not high enough. I was never adviced or couseled as Keiser just continues to take my money and now that I have passed all classes they will not allow me to continue unless I start at the very beginning. This makes no sense to me.. PLease if any one can help or give any advice please reach me at [protected] or email me at [protected]@gmail.com

Keiser University fraud misrepresentation discrimination

This institution will take your monies and if you have any complaints, they will turn around and blame you, retaliate, take no responsibility for their actions ever, and after they have received tens of thousands of dollars, they will dismiss you and give you a difficult time, they run the institution like it is North Korea, and it all starts at the top with Dr. Keiser, owner and president. They need to be sued and brought down, so if you have had any difficulty, feel free to contact me as we are putting together a class action lawsuit to stop them from the horrific abuses of civil rights and discrimination against students in various ways. It is all one huge scam, they do not care about the students even though they say they do, Dr. Keiser himself stated to me one time, I only listen to my credentialed faculty, I do not talk to students. The man acts as if he is a little god, he is egotistical, thinks he is above the law and whatever he thinks he can get away with, he does it. He has no conscious and if things don't go the way he wants them to go, then he will make sure that he manipulates things to destroy your life, if you let him, so don't put yourself in this situation where credits you take are not even transferable, and do not be lured in with their false promises, once they have your money, they will try and screw with you and you will owe tens of thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it. Go to a State College or University where they are held accountable.

Keiser University keiser univesity deceptive scam

Hi, i graduated from Keiser University this year 2013 from the Nuclear Medicine Program of which I was awarded an Associates of science. After months of looking for employment I have realized that their are no jobs and the market is saturated, flooded with techs. The job opportunities are so scarce that when one pops up they require at least 3 to 5 years experience, I was told that I would find a job as soon as I graduate. And not to listen to the techs at clinical rotations that they are exaggerating when they say that they are no jobs for Nuclear Medicine Technologist. The teachers in Keiser take pride in misleading and deceiving their students into writing out checks and taking out loans for these overly expensive programs that have no job outlook whats so ever.
If anyone can help me please message me thru this site, I am considering pressing charges against Keiser University.

I attended a Nuclear Medicine program in Melbourne, Fl. Right after I graduated from my program, they fired the Director of the program... trumped up excuses for firing her if you ask me... as well as firing one of our two teachers. She pretty much should have been fired long before. Two years goes by and I could not even get an interview let alone a job. Not only had I completed the Nuc program, I also got my EKG and Phlebotomy license as well to help my chances. A few years goes by and lo and behold, they have shut down the Nuclear Medicine program at Keiser in Melbourne. I know I will never work in Nucs, so I went back to school and have had to attend an entire extra year at EFSC in order to complete my A.A. as many of the credits I obtained in my A.S. program are unusable. I know many people who went to Keiser not only for the Nuclear Medicine program, but other programs as well, that have never been able to find jobs. They flood the market because of greed and have not been held accountable. Anyone thinking of attending Keiser for any program, I urge you to go to a few places where they have your desired job title and ask them if they hire Keiser Students, when is the last time they hired a Keiser student and how the job outlook is considering you will be walking out with no experience. I cannot speak for the other programs, however, four months worth of clinical experience does not constitute experience in the workforce. I had high marks from my clinical sites, very good grades and received a 92 in one of my board exams (no easy task) and ended up with the same degree as another student in my class who chewed gum during his presentations, didn't know where the body part he claimed to have imaged was and was given test answers so he wouldn't fail. The same fellow also was allowed to wear his sunglasses during tests as well as verbally assault two of our female students and the new program director who ran to the dean saying she was afraid for her life. If there was ever a college you should run very far away from, it would be this one.

The tuition that Keiser University charges is outrageous. I am strapped with 40, 000 in debt. Keiser University states that is is a non profit private school, but don't be fooled it is for profit. They do not care about finding a job for you once you graduate, but they will beg you to come back if you drop out. Please search for a local community college or...

Keiser University overpopulating careers

First of all, this school is extremely expensive and it will leave you with a never ending debt even after a 2-year degree. I am talking about $40, 000 in loans debt just for an associate degree. I personally think the classes taken at this school do not prepare you for the real life, and the school does not really care about graduating incompetent students. Keiser graduates an Occupational Therapy Assistant class every 4 months, which is causing an overpopulation of people looking for this job in the area. Of course, Keiser is not the only at fault. Sometimes I wonder what is the AOTA doing to control this? Aren’t they supposed to protect our rights and look after us? Well, it looks like more than one person is not doing their job! I remember how back in my time people used to struggle to pass the board exam. Sadly, I have overheard how most of the students from Keiser already have all the questions from the board examination, which has not been changed in the last 4 years or more. This school is endangering the future of my career and soon there will be so many of us that we are not going to be able to get jobs, and if we do the pay rate is going to decrease for sure. My recommendation, find another school and maybe another career!

I attended the OTA program [protected]. They wasted a lot of our class time focusing on topics not needed. I entered my first job feeling completely lost, embarrassed and angry because of it. Thankfully my coworkers were understanding and some took me under their wing and showed me many things I wished (and should have) learned in school. Almost 2.5 yrs later in the field I'm way more confident but still bitter about how much I owe and how little I was taught. They also lied about how easy it would be to get a job. I had to find one two hours away and most of my class had to move out of state. My advice to anyone considering? Don't waste your time at this place. They're having too many people graduate a year and there's NO jobs for COTAs in Central FL - at all. I even went as far as contacting recruiting agents that can find you temp/PT/FT and all of them said my best bet would be to leave the state to find work.

Keiser University discrimination

I applied for the admission counselor position some time back at Keiser University in Miami. I attended what the employer called a "formal meeting, " although I was told that it was going to be an interview before I drove down to Miami from Fort Lauderdale. Actually, that day my husband took off work to drive me to the "formal meeting" that was supposed to be an interview. Nevertheless, after the "meeting, " the employer informed us that we were going to be sent some sort of psychological/personality test online that was needed to be completed before the actual interview. After not receiving it right away, I called the employer and they informed me that they will indeed be sending me the test. After that, I made multiple phone calls and left messages to the secretaries in order for the employer to contact me regarding the test that they had already promised to send me and still never sent. In fact, I never heard anything back even till this day. I completely agree with the fact that a company, organization, or a university has the right to hire whom they chose. However, it is only professional and courteous to send a simple letter, even via postal mail, saying something like "thank you for your interest as a...unfortunately this position has been filled..." Not only have I never received such a mail, I did not even get a response from my phone calls. Moreover, I do not appreciate the fact that the employer frankly lied to me saying that they WOULD send me the online test. It is disappointing that this kind of unprofessional behavior is coming from an academic institution that serves the community. What kind of role models are they? I simply feel that this is perhaps more than an extreme case of disorganization or lack of professionalism on their part, but something more concerning--that being discrimination. Being an "equal opportunity employer" (EOE), is more than just having a framed certificate on the wall. Instead, it represents that the university should give every applicant a fair look regardless of race, physical disability, or sexual orientation, for example. I feel, that perhaps due to my country of origin, I was not treated fairly not only during the meeting, but in their lack of correspondence. Again, I am honestly really NOT upset about not being hired. But, I am human and I should be treated with some respect other than given false promises and then just ignoring my inquiries by running away. It is out of the principles of professionalism and fairness that I am writing this as well as the fact that although it is OK for a company or university not to hire someone, everyone should be given an "equal opportunity" during the process, thereby not being lied to and thus being treated fairly with dignity and respect.

Keiser University crooks

So I have been going to keiser for about 2 and half years.. I had some issues and changes camousses a few times. And one class I have taken there times and have not passed. Well that happen in the beginning of me starting classes and now two years after that happened and 3 months from me graduating they said that I am not able to finish because of that class I failed tree times and none of my classes will transfer. I plan on getting g a lawyer and suing them for this. If I couldn't finish the program than they should have told me as soon as I failed that class for the third time not two years later after they have taken thousands of dollars of mine

Called to tell me that they did not have my transcripts a month before starting my core program when in fact I did upon enrolling.

I have been involved in one of their program for 9 months and made honor roll. I did my general Ed online, then started my core that following year in 2012. averaging C . Was never told that I needed to maintain a C average to be able to continue on in the course until the first day of Core (meanwhile already in the program for 6 months already) Never told about a test the first day. Now into my third core class taking Kines. I missed a C by 3 points. They kicked me out of the program missing a C by 3 points. Asked if there was an academic probation...Nope Teachers where not willing to help, they where into helping themselves in your pockets. On the note of the teachers. They are not certified teacher at all. They are people that are in the field with out a teaching degree.is that who you want to learn from.. They don't know how to have you understand the material. Now I am stuck in a place where I don't like the school I think that they lied to me to get me there. When it came down to transferring credits other UN they would not take the credits earned. Keiser stated it was not accredited school ... ( months of hard work down the drain ) Keiser also would not take A& P that I took at another school because it was not related to their program. How else can you relate the body parts to a particular program. ... This school is a joke and I would not refer this school to no one not even a dead dog!

Keiser University student loan fraud!

My first post didn't have my whole comment, this is the whole situation.

I have applied for a student loan back in november of 2007 so that I could attend keiser university in sarasota, fl. I was swindled in my opinion, and was signed up for a semester of classes I was not even interested in (I wanted to go to pastry school, and was signed up for a general culinary program study) all the time telling me, "oh well you can choose your pastry related classes once you're here" I was told I would need to get a loan to take care of my class schedule, and it was recommended I call sallie mae. I did so, and was approved for an $11, 000 loan (Split into 2 parts) within 24 hours. The next day after attending a meat 101 class at keiser I was called to the financial aide office and told I would need more financial support to cover my classes.
I left in tears, knowing I would not be able to find anymore funding and contacted sallie mae, to explain my situation and ask that we can cancel the loan.in which case, I was told, "sure no problem. However, we've already written a check for the first $5, 500 to keiser so we will need them to send the check back." I returned to my counselor at keiser the next day, and was told in so many words, "sorry this is our policy. You signed the contract, and are now responsible for paying it back." I never even went to class, other than those first few days! I've also offered to return my unused knife kit, two chef jackets, and textbook, but have gotten little to no response from anyone at keiser willing to work with me. I still have all my equiptment and would like a peaceful resolution with everyone involved. I have been reported to a collections agency, and have even applied for a mediation meeting with a sallie mae recovery agency, which is scheduled for september 13, 2011.
I was contacted on august 15, 2011 by a woman named renee from the sallie mae recovery agency and it was explained I have till the end of the month to "find $4, 800" which is a negotiated amount they came up with. My total originally was $6, 800 from the cashed check that went to keiser. I have no way to pay this amount in full to sallie mae. I'm a waitress, & I live at home with my mother, who has actually been in the hospital for over 2 weeks, and renee told me they could perhaps take my car, or relinquish my wages if I cannot come up with the money. I have been to my local bank who holds my car loan to see if a another loan was possible to pay sallie mae back, and they have already closed out the loan, which dropped my credit score too low to be accepted for a loan & my car is not a usable form of equity I was told. I don't own a house, or even my car yet, so I don't know what to do.

I just feel completely swindled by keiser and don't think it's fair they are allowed to do this to students. I realize I signed the contract, and should have read things more carefully perhaps, but I was in and out of the registration office in less than an hour. At first sallie mae seemed understanding, but have now changed their tone completely, and aren't really willing to work with me. I was making payments back to sallie mae for quite sometime, but have since been told "my $100 a month isn't really helping anything. My principle interest in too high." I don't know what to do, I really do want this to work out and not have my name or credit tarnished. I just am unsure what steps to take, next.

Please if anyone could respond and help me at all, i'd be so grateful.

Thank you,
Whitney pemrick

Well that was easy! I Googled your school and here is the link to their catalog:
http://www.keiseruniversity.edu/pdf/catalog.pdf
On page 43, it outlines their Cancellation/Withdraw policy. "Withdraw at any time during the first week of the semester -90% refund of tuition only." Further down the page it reads: "Students must notify the university in writing of cancellation."
As long as you notified them you were dropping, they don't have much of an argument. If you just stopped going and there is nothing in writing to substantiate that you attended class for a day and then dropped; well, you might have to pay for that entire semester. Again, look for emails, documents, letters, anything that might establish you notified the university of your intention to cancel and/or withdraw.

In your enrollment agreement or the college's catalog, there should be a section which describes what the school's drop policy is. Typically, if you attend less than a week and notify the school in writing, there
likely will not be any charges.
I'm really confused by what you described. Are you saying you attended one day of class and you are being charged for an entire academic year? When you withdrew from school, did you notify the school?
Also, don't listen to "brantly's" advice. The absolute worst thing you can do is to default on your student loans. Federal financial aid typically takes the form of Pell Grants and Stafford Loans. The loans are repayable starting six months after you withdraw or graduate.
When you default on a loan, the entire balance becomes due immediately. Also, the loan will appear in a default status and you will not be eligible to receive grants or loans to go to a different school. These are federal loans, if you are unsure just remember back to when you completed the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Once you default on your financial aid, the government can garnish your wages and seize any refund monies you might be eligible for when you file your tax return. Also, these loans cannot be discharged through a bankruptcy. So, don't default!
I would work with the school to determine why you are being charged for an entire academic year if you only attended for a day? Regarding your lender, you are doing the right thing by making payments. The alternative, default, is a bad option. There are at least five different re-payment options available to you, so if you are financially struggling you can request a lower monthly payment. Keep in mind, the interest on that loan is no doubt compounding. If you return to college, perhaps an online community college where the cost per credit is quite low, you can have your prior loans placed into deferment. Yes, you are potentially borrowing more money; however, as long as you are not in default you can complete a FAFSA and determine what you are eligible for in Pell Grants. Grants are monies which do not have to be repaid. So, you could: place your loans into deferment, use grant monies to fund your education, and work towards an Associates or Bachelor's degree which will improve your employability and earning potential.
Hope that helps...definitely look for any documentation you have acknowledging when you dropped. Letters, e-mails, etc.

many schools do the same thing. cosmotology, cooking any type of trade school this is standard practice. I have gone through a simalair situation with a school called pennsylvania beauty acadamy in Johnstown pa. i am in collections and refuse to pay them anything. I will pay back the loan to the state but not to the school because i only went for 2 months and moved back to pittsburgh. Depending on what state you live in they may not be able to garnish your wasges or take your car. Look into state laws governing this type of loan agreement. In a commonwealth they cannot garnich wages for anything unless it is child support or state and federal loans and they cannot make you pay anything in full. they have to allow you a payment plan. just tell them you can only afford $3 a month until the laon is paid.

Mrs. McClinton,

Are you a former adviser for Keiser University? I am considering attending there and am starting to reconsider with all of the horror stories I have been reading. Any information you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I'm attending Keiser Online through the Ft. Lauderdale, Fl campus, and I have absolutely no problems. The professors, admissions councelor, financial aid, the preceptorship coordinator...everyone was great and had no problems. I've never had to pull out of class. They work with you when you can't find a site for preceptorships. I'm in my 8th month here. The people who pay for my student loans aren't complaining either.

Keiser University stole scholarship

I recieved a scholarship and i had a cosigner and still owed them money, i had to drop out then re sign up a few months later due to personal reasons and low and behold they found a grant that paid for all of the classes through a federal fund. now saying that i owe them 3, 000 dollars from the first time they took my money. I never saw a penny of my scholarship money and i had to pay out of pocket for all of my books. they will not even release my transcripts until i pay them the money they took from me for my scholarship. waste of my time and a waste of a building that they so call opportunity.

Keiser University student loan I specifically said I didn't want!!!

I hope that people read this! I went to keiser for a little over a year and had to stop attending because of personal reasons. The teachers there seemed really nice and probably really knew what they were doing and cared but as far as the rest of the school goes I think they are commisioned based and tell you whatever it is they have to to get you to sign up for their school. When I first started there I was told that I couldn't get financial aid so I said that was ok but stressed the fact that I didn't want a student loan. The person whom which I was speaking to said that was not a problem but that I would have to pay $600 per month I said that was fine and agreed to pay that ammount. Everything went well, or so I thought so I signed up for year two. This time they said that I could get aid and that my payments would be around $50 I said again that I didn't want a student loan and again was told that was fine. About 3 months in I started having problems and had to withdraw. I was told that they would send me a letter showing the remainder of my financial obligations towards them, which I never recieved. About 4 months ago fms started calling me non stop about the $3000 I owed keiser university and I also have a $10, 000 student loan to pay for the year and a half that I attended there so basically for the ammount of time I went to school there they charged over $20, 000. The education that you get there is not worth that kind of money and now I am stuck with a student loan that I specifically said I didn't want. If anyone out there knows what I can do about this please let me know it would be much appreciated! For those of you who are considering going there I can't tell you not to but just think about it first it as a lot of money for a second rate education!
