Waiting time
Hi I have my son who goes to Kumon @ Dayton, NJ for Maths classes. I see a lot of kids her anytime but only 1 or 2 instructors. So there is only 1 instructors per 25 kids which is very bad ratio, because of that if my son have to ask for help he has to wait on average 25 to 30 minutes to get attention of instructor. Can you do something about this?

Dear team
Kumon Noida Sec-50 Centre
A-56/2, Sec-50, Noida-201303
Above address is the Kumon center where kid study.
The teachers are incompetent and their pronunciation is very bad. They are not problem solving. They just gave 2 page sheets a day.
Fees they took is quarterly whereas others take on month basis
Also they cheat parents by giving Hindi tuitions by Kumon and do personal tuitions.
disrespect
Today and last Thursday, I started going to Kumon, I don't want to sound entitled but both times I left the exam area, I was pushed out by the man who I believe was running the centre, and it's not just me, but other black children.
In addition to that, I had to sit a test to [censored] my level of ability, I am a set 1 yr7 student who scored 100% on the arithmetic, however, the homework I was given was about fractions.
Lastly, my father dropped me off and went to the M&S just around the corner so that I could do my tests. But I was pushed out by the same man and was told to call my father because of the fact that he hadn't filled out the proper forms. When he came back to fill in the forms, the man who had pushed me out earlier was yelling about how he had already told my dad about the forms (which he hadn't). I then had to quit because that kind of tone is not one that I should hear on a daily basis.
I hope that this helps parents choose the right tuition centre.
I'm glad you left. Why put up with apparent racism when there are so many other good learning centers. Are you in the south? Racism is not as common up north.
unethical behaviour
Hi,
As a mom-blogger with focus on early education, I am constantly looking for classes for my child and was as excited as my daughter to have her enroll in your class. I saw a Facebook post offering a free trial. I filled all the details in the facebook form including her age. The lady at the store immediately called me back (what I assume is a sales callback, and pushed me to come to the center asap).
I got really excited and got my daughter to avail the class, only for her to tell me my daughter was too young for the course. She was 2.5 years (which I had explicitly mentioned in the form as well as on a call with her). The lady (her name is Harriet ) was extremely curt and told us that the initial class was actually an assessment to see if my daughter fit the bill. Since my daughter was jumping up and down enthusiastically I let her take the assessment. At this point, I was as asking if my helper could be around because my daughter was really young. The teacher in-house was extremely sweet and said for a week it would be ok until my child got used to the surroundings. Harriet instantly corrected saying it as not allowed. There was some part on giving homework to my child which I was still iffy about so I didn't respond right away when she was asking me to signup on that very day. When I told her I wanted to mull over she gave me the look of death like my daughter's visit was an utter waste of her time.
I reached back again as I had talked myself into signing my child up as she seemed thrilled at the surroundings. This is where things started to get downhill. I went again to enquire and she shared a plan of how I could avail a lower rate ( half the cost) if I had her sign up on the 11th instead of the start of the month. Again, calling this out as I deem this very necessary. I am looking for quality education for my daughter and I am not really going to be cheap about any fees. It somehow looked like she sized me up (because I am Indian, and automatically assumed I am seeking a cheaper alternative).
In that very discussion, she mentioned a pro-rata option as well and I had asked her what that was. Suddenly she got on the defensive and said the half price was the cheapest and why I am asking an unnecessary question. This is where I snapped (in my head as I was again with my daughter and didn't want to show displeasure ) and I had asked her if she can tell me finally what was the amount I had to pay. She said, in the rudest way possible, that it is full price for me and she will not let me avail any offer because it was completely on her to activate it.
I was aghast. If this isn't racist I have no clue what this is. I am genuinely wondering out loud, if it was a non-Indian kid that showed up, will you still be sharing cost-cutting options and then deeming the person unworthy of conversation? I obviously want to chronicle this on mail as well but couldn't as I was traveling on blog-assignments.
I am asking you this because I don't think that teacher is representative of your entire staff and I am hoping it is a one-off thing. I genuinely want to send my daughter to these classes and the closest one is Forum mall but I am petrified that the teacher might take any anger out on my child and this is not monitored by me.
Please advise.
Thanks

Sounds like a bad manager with poor social skills. And definitely not culturally sensitive, to say the least. Whenever a business shows ridicule (the way she looked at you), I move on if they have other competitors. Ridicule has no place in business or relationships. Consequences, yes. Ridicule, no.
dress code
Is there no dress code for instructors/assistants - especially the females? How can some KUMON Instructors even think of wearing see-through clothing/blouses? We can see the color of the inner clothing. Please please someone create a dress code if there is none. Atleast make a recommendation to the franchises. The preteens and teens will be so disturbed, when all they go there to do is to study. Can someone please look into this?
the lead representative at the sixth line oakville location is extremely rude and should not be working with children
My daughter, who volunteered with this location for 25 hours, had been in email correspondence with the lead rep at this location by the name of Indra. Indra did not respond to my daughter's email back in January asking if she would be able to come in to pick up her volunteer hour certificate.
She sent another email to Indra earlier this week to inform her that she would be coming in to collect her certificate. Upon asking her for the certificate, Indra was ridiculously rude. She lashed out at her, saying that "YOU were the one who didn't email me back" (email records clearly indicate otherwise). "Do you know how many months it's been? Of course I would recycle it by now!" She turned to me and tried to get me on her side, "How am I supposed to reply when your daughter hasn't replied to me?". It felt as if I was dealing with a child in an adult's body.
My daughter remained calm (very mature of her), and told her that she completed 15-20 hours. Indra wrote her down for the lowest number, 15.
I don't understand this behaviour. Indra is someone who is supposed to be working with children to help improve their school performance, and she has this poor, unprofessional attitude. My daughter offered her valuable TIME (UNPAID) to Kumon, and all she asked for is a paper stating she had done so.
She was not asking for a personal reference, for money for her unpaid work, or for anything that remotely required extra effort or unreasonable inconvenience to Indra. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of service that Kumon accepts as their leads, and will be telling others to never use this service.
You GO girl! YES!
rude owner
I was yelled at by the owner in front of her students because I expressed my concerns in an email over the weekend. She didn't like the email and took it personally. Our son was given home work based on a totally new concept ( pre algebra) and really struggled with that despite us spending time with hi explaining the concept. He got 4 different worksheets all based on a new concept. How can you expect the child to do that ? I understand it could be just giving him an exposure to what's coming up in next few weeks. What really hurt me was her statements like " The problem is in your child. Sometimes I explain him several times and still he doesn't understand". She also said " If you know Maths, why don't you teach him?" Such a rude behavior is not acceptable and now that we know what she thinks about our son, we cannot send him to her. This center is in Colorado Springs and the owner is Mrs. Young B. ( north COS).
false claims
My Son ASKED, me for help with Grade 4 (2016) multiplication and division.
The grid system/technique is beyond my comprehension. Myself and many others tried to assist; to no avail. So I looked for help. Prior to this he had excelled at Maths - to the extent that he was Graded higher for his Grade School level for 2 years. To be fair, that is not a great achievement. I am only mentioning it in relation to my complaint.
So despite, many other Parents advising me that Kumon is useless - I researched it, went to an information night and then signed my Son in.
3 months in, I expressed both mine and my Sons Frustration with the "Kumon" experience. The "Director" of the Port Melbourne branch was so condesding and belittled me to the point that I let another 3 months @$130.00 go.
I actually stayed in the Kumon Centre this evening (despite being told that this is not allowed). My Son, lakes any kind of self-discpline (which is why I hoped that the "Kumon" promise of self-learning would be installed). I witnessed my Son looking at the walls, going to the Bathroom for 17 minutes, walking around the classroom and just using an eraser on the desk. I also witnessed 2 teenagers grading all booklets via a grading booklet (I can only hope that they are not, Kumon Graduates).
What I did see however, was the children whom did not look like my Son, and therefore, happened to have a darker eye colour and skin; were actually Chastised for the way they sat (deportment), by the one Woman roaming the room in an Apron. The "markers" aka teenagers, following cheat sheets - also made, these lovely kids read aloud to them - for any page they had missed on the booklet. Is not the "classroom/Space" of Kumon - expected me be "eyes down, pens moving and silence"
I am totally offended, as to how cruel this is.
However, I am also furious in regard to the money I have invested in Kumon and the grief it has created in our home. Adding insult to injury, is - my Son sought help at School - and is beyond the level of the Kumon projected "table of Learning materials maths". If I am to believe the paperwork that I have been presented with; a). My Son started Kumon in 2012. b). The 12mth goal - as per the hand written note on the above mentioned paperwork, (which is tempting me to go VCAT) - IS THAT - my Son, via Kumon, will be 18 months behind the rest of his class.
I am Looking forward to your response;
Regards,
Amelia Richards
I would have a minimum of $700 dollars in my account, if I had not believed in Kumon
Kumon instructor rapes student for 2 years in connecticut
EAST LONGMEADOW, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - There is shocking news coming out against the Kumon Franchise owner of a Kumon Math & Reading tutoring center who is now facing charges of sexual assault and rape.
Kumon franchise owner Jimmy Chang, 32, of East Longmeadow was arrested in Manchester, CT. He is facing 12 counts of second degree sexual assault of minors.
Back in March, the 17-year-old victim went to the Manchester, CT police department and said Chang allegedly manipulated her into a long-term sexual relationship.
The victim reportedly told police that from 2012 to 2014, Chang would pick her up from her school or home to perform sexual favors.
The teenager also said that at times, Chang would have her meet him at his Kumon learning center - Kumon Math and Reading Center in Longmeadow - where he would provide alcohol to her prior to sex.
Besides being a Kumon instructor, Chang is also a youth pastor at a church in Agawam, which he and the victim both attended.
The girl said Kumon franchisee Chang would allegedly ask her to dress like a "school girl" and meet him at that church where other sexual encounters would occur.
According to court documents, the victim told Chang that she "wanted to wait - to save my virginity [..] as a Christian you are supposed to save your virginity. He responded 'do you really want to?'"
During his arrest, Chang reportedly told police, "I realized I messed up." As a Kumon instructor he admitted to have taken advantage of his role at the Kumon Math & Reading center a.k.a Kumon learning center, and committed sexual crimes against the Kumon student.
Chang appeared in court in Connecticut Tuesday where he was bonded out of jail.
The victim's identity is not being released.

It is shameful that you post this. Everyone here in the company knows that Joe Nativo is a sexual harasser and has harassed numerous female staff members. He had and has illicit relationships with female staff members including one that it rumored he got pregnant in our San Francisco office. She resigned from our company. Many field staff have also complained to the management that he has sexual relationships with Kumon instructors too. He acts like a doofus because he wants people to believe that he is one, but behind the mask is a sexual predator who needs to be arrested and thrown in prison. Why is Kumon protecting a sexual predator?
I think Kumon Math and Reading Company is a worldwide network of pedophile, child molesters, child pornographers, child rapists and sex offenders who have figured out a very easy way of luring children into their web of deceit so that they can prey on the innocent children under the guise of tutoring.
Stay away from Kumon of Howell
WE paid too much money at Kumon of Howell in Howell township, New Jersey for what it was worth. No results and my child was still retained. Kumon of Howell failed to tutor the subject matter in school. No communication with the volume of worksheets our child was repeating, and often wondered if anything was taught when my child attended Kumon of Howell. We just got Lies, Lies, and more lies by center owner Connie Schmidt Kirman. Sometimes we felt it was just like an overpaid daycare. Would not recommend this place. Better off hiring a tutor at home. Fortunately we were able to predict the future with Kumon of Howell and stopped our child from Kumon of Howell.
Connie Schmidt, the owner Connie Kirman, will not return our calls nor give us an exact accounting nor our child's records. We have tried calling the Kumon company but all I get is a canned responses - they say Kumon of Howell is a franchisee and they are not responsible.
From my understanding, students are only to be there 45 minutes per subject and there are only 2 subjects. The repetition is the way the learning is done - so, you'd want to make sure she is getting her assignments back so she can analyze where she went wrong or ask you or others for help. The staff can also help, but the primary learning tool is repetition. Perhaps your students needs to go downward to an easier repetition set and then proceed upward more gradually. The owner can arrange for that. It is really important for parents/guardians to make sure homework is graded by the business and returned to the student. Student files are right out in the open. In many ways, there is really no need for students to be in the center, except those with questions or the pre-schoolers. Please don't take this wrong because I am not saying I like it. I'm just telling you what corporate organization told me, in a different area.
I understand you are upset and frustrated, but come one you cannot blame Kumon for hitting your child and leaving bruises. I am glad they called CPS on you because this is child abuse.
PS the worst thing about this whole incident is because my child was not learning, I thought first it was because he was lazy so I started hitting him. Unfortunately it left bruises on him and they asked him what happened. When my child told them that I hit him they called CPS on me and I got into trouble with CPS because of their error.
Kumon Franchise Scam
Kumon franchise is a scam. We experienced it first hand. We were show all fabricated data by the franchise sales representative about the potential of a location. Believing the data we decided to invest in a franchise. All along we were kept in the dark on the financial hardships existing franchisees are going through as well as the very bad reputation that Kumon and its franchisees have because of all the child molestation scandals plaguing the franchise. We only learnt about all this when we went to their headquarters in Teaneck a few months back and met with other franchise candidates. The training was substandard and it seemed like the company itself did not know what it was doing. The trainers were sub-par and so was the other staff we met. Some male staff tried to mingle with the female trainees and were constantly hitting on them. We came back from the training with disgust and very bad feeling. We have decided against investing in a Kumon franchise because we were fed lies and lies, and only learned the truth from other people. Our advice to all seeking out a Kumon franchise, beware of the scam and lies.
Iworked in kumon for 1month.Due to some reasons Ihad to leave my job in the next month. And they are not paying salary for what I had worked for them in the last month.I asked them to even deduct and pay they are not answering me.I even have evidence of work in the form of daily reports.
Thank you for your review about Kumon franchise scam.
Rude Individual runs this center
We were checking out tutoring programs for our children and had visited the Kumon center in Sacramento for information. At the center we met the owner of the center named Paul Matsunaga (or at least he claimed to be). We could not understand his explanation of Kumon and how it works. Whenever we asked questions, he talked down at my husband and me, like we were stupid. His explanation was confusing and he went around in circles. Overall, he was rude and belligerent. He thought it more important tell us about the policies and tution charged than about the Kumon program and how it would help our children. Our experience was bad and we decided not to opt for Kumon. If you happen to be looking for tutoring for your children in the Sacramento area, our opinion is to stay away from the Kumon center here.

Our experience at the Kumon learning center in Atlanta was less than desirable. Parents, please do not fall for mindless peer pressure. Kumon is worse than you think. It is just senseless torture for any child and parents too.
Vidhya, if you are taking about your experience at the hands of KOJI OTSUKA at the Kumon Math & Reading center in San Jose - California, I support you. Our experience at the center was the same. Koji Otsuka is a mean and narcissistic person. He is just cruel. I doubt he has any teaching qualification whatsoever. The Child Services Protection Agency of California should raid this place.
This is similar to the experience we had with Kumon. But we were not as lucky as you. We ended up enrolling our children at the center in San Jose - California. The Kumon instructor probably had lost all control of his mental faculties. He was stupid and rude, inundated my already Kumon-hating children with repeating the same worksheets several times. I was later on told by other parents at the center, that Kumon uses repetition of the same worksheets in order to rip-off parents. We finally ended our children's sadness at the Kumon center by stopping Kumon for good. Good riddance to Kumon and the insolent jerk of a Kumon instructor. Just stay away from the Kumon Math & Reading center on Moorpark Ave in San Jose. Yes, the one next to JTC Taekwando.
so you lack comprehension?
SCAM
Kumon Math & Reading is SCAM. We experienced it first hand. We had enrolled our children at the local Kumon Math & Reading center. After months of doing crazy heaps of worksheets and receiving no guidance from the Kumon Math & Reading center owner, we saw declining grades with our children. All this while the tuition was being paid in advance to this [censored] of a Kumon center owner. Our experience is that Kumon doesn't work because the owner wasn't a certified teacher. We checked with the ISBE Division of Educator Licensure website and found that the person is a complete scam. Yet, they play with the lives of your children and their future. SCAM ALERT - STAY AWAY FROM KUMON MATH & READING CENTER in Lombard.

Children's education horror story
Children's education horror story. Looking back, I feel stupid ever enrolling my children at Kumon. Every time I picked up my girls at the centre, the owner Nicole Smith was away from the classroom yapping away on her cell phone. She had little to no patience with the kids, raised her voice at kids who approach her with questions. The problem is that...

About Kumon
The Kumon method is based on the belief that every child has the potential to learn and excel in math and reading. The program is designed to help children develop strong foundational skills in these subjects, which will enable them to succeed in school and in life. The Kumon method is based on individualized instruction, which means that each child progresses at their own pace and level.
The Kumon program starts with an assessment of the child's current math or reading level. Based on this assessment, the child is given a personalized learning plan that is tailored to their specific needs and abilities. The program consists of a series of worksheets that gradually increase in difficulty as the child progresses. The worksheets are designed to be challenging but not overwhelming, so that the child can build confidence and develop a love of learning.
One of the key features of the Kumon program is the emphasis on self-learning. Children are encouraged to work independently and to take responsibility for their own learning. The program also emphasizes the importance of daily practice, with children expected to complete a certain number of worksheets each day.
Kumon has received widespread recognition for its effectiveness in improving children's math and reading skills. Studies have shown that children who participate in the Kumon program typically make significant gains in these subjects. In addition, many parents report that their children develop greater confidence, motivation, and self-discipline as a result of participating in the program.
Overall, Kumon is a highly respected and effective education program that has helped millions of children around the world develop strong foundational skills in math and reading.
