Madison Seating: A Total Disaster - Scammers Alert!
This company is a total disaster, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They're a bunch of scammers, if you ask me. I ordered a chair from them on 10/29/21 and they charged my card on 11/2/21, but I never received any shipping information. I tried to contact them via email and spoke with Sana, but they kept changing their story about when I would receive my shipping information. It was really frustrating, so I decided to cancel my order. My boyfriend also cancelled his order on 11/11/21 and he received a refund notification, but I didn't.
I called my credit card company to let them know what was going on and they suggested I do a chargeback. Two weeks later, on Thanksgiving of all days, I received a threatening email from Madison Seating demanding that I return the money that was refunded to me. They claimed that I had received two refunds, but my bank account didn't reflect this until two days later.
I used to work in a company where people would try to scam us out of services, so I suggested that Madison Seating contact my credit card company to resolve the issue. But instead of doing that, they sent me an email threatening me with legal action if I didn't call my credit card company myself.
This company is a complete mess. They have a terrible reputation and this interaction just proves it. I'm going to report them to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and the New York State Attorney General for their shady business practices. Don't waste your time or money with Madison Seating.
Beware of Madisonseating's Review Tactics: My Experience with Price Match and Harassment
So, I wanted to share my experience with Madisonseating. I ordered two chairs from them back in January and I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews online. But, I decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. The chairs arrived after two weeks and they were in great condition, except for a bit of squeaking. But, for the price I paid, I was totally okay with that.
A couple of weeks later, I noticed that the chairs were on sale for $25 cheaper than what I had paid. So, I reached out to Madisonseating to see if they could do a price match. They said they would check and get back to me. But, when they found out that I had left a review that they didn't like, they refused to do the price match.
They started calling me and asking me to change my review or send the chairs back so they could fix any problems. But, I didn't want to be without my chairs for another two weeks just because of a little squeak. After I refused to send the chairs back, they kept calling me and even had their sales manager call me.
He said that my review was causing issues and asked if he could make it right by having me take down my review. I agreed to take down my review if they would agree to my original price match request. They agreed and I took down my review.
But, I never heard from them again after that. I realized that they only have 5-star ratings or 1/2-star ratings with almost nothing in between because they harass people who leave low ratings until they get what they want. I wonder how many people they got what they wanted from and then didn't hold up their end of the bargain.
Overall, I had a good experience with Madisonseating, but I wouldn't trust their ratings. Just be aware that they might try to pressure you into changing your review if they don't like it.
Disappointing Experience with Madison Seating: Delayed Shipping and Ambiguous Updates on Herman Miller Chair Purchase
I recently made a purchase from Madison Seating on August 5th, 2021 for a Herman Miller Aeron chair. I decided to splurge and add some attachments that were available at checkout. After receiving a confirmation email from them, I assumed that my item was in stock and would be delivered within 10-14 business days.
However, after 13 days had passed, I had not received any shipping details from them. I reached out to them to get an estimated time of arrival for my chair, but they responded with an email telling me to wait another 10-14 days. I was not impressed with their response.
I decided to reach out to them again on August 26th, which was 21 days after my purchase date, to request an update. They responded by telling me that COVID had affected their business and that they hoped my family was safe and well. While I appreciated their concern, I was more interested in getting an update on my $600 purchase.
Their response was ambiguous, stating that my chair should be shipping early to mid September. Four days later, I was charged the full $600 amount for the chair with no shipping details provided. I was actually notified by my bank that I had been charged, not by Madison Seating.
I reached out to them again to ask for an update on the status of my order. Their response was that the stock had been allocated to my order and that the chair was being worked on. They estimated that the delivery would be around mid September due to limited staff working and holiday closures.
It is now September 28th, almost two months since my purchase, and I am still waiting for my chair to arrive. I have had numerous back and forth emails with Madison Seating, and their ambiguous shipping dates have been frustrating to deal with.
Overall, I would not recommend Madison Seating. Their operation is very unimpressive, and I would suggest buying the real deal instead of trying to get a second-hand Herman Miller chair from them.
Disappointing Service from Madison Seating: Lack of Communication and Stock Issues
I recently made a purchase from Madison Seating for a new office chair for my company. However, I have been left disappointed with the service I have received. Despite being told multiple times that my order would ship the following month, I have now been informed that the chair I ordered three months ago is out of stock and unavailable. What's more, the chair is still listed on their website with no indication that it is out of stock.
I understand that delays can happen, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the lack of communication and conflicting information from the company has been frustrating. I received an email on December 28th stating that the Aeron chair I selected had a release date of mid to late January, but then on November 24th, I was told that my order would be shipped out by early to mid-December. It's now February 9th, and I have been informed that there is no restock date for the Executive Model Aeron chair.
I appreciate that Madison Seating has offered me a lower-cost alternative in an all-black version of the same chair, but I am disappointed that I was not informed of the stock issues sooner. I have been left waiting indefinitely with no communication from the company, which is unacceptable.
I hope that Madison Seating can improve their communication with customers in the future to avoid situations like this. As a customer, I expect to be kept informed of any delays or issues with my order. Madisonseating Review: Poor Customer Service, Low-Quality Remanufactured Chairs, and Unethical Business Practices
I recently made a purchase of 5 chairs from Madisonseating, including the Aeron, Mirra, Leap V2, Gesture, and Amia. I placed my order on March 29th and waited patiently for my chairs to arrive. However, I did not receive any updates for a couple of weeks, which made me quite anxious. Eventually, all but two chairs arrived, but they were delivered individually over several days. Unfortunately, the company was slow to respond to my emails and they did not answer the phone, which made it difficult to get any information about my order.
One of the biggest issues I had with Madisonseating was that their online portal did not allow me to see the status of multiple shipments. This meant that when a chair did arrive, I had no idea which one it was or when to expect the others. At first, I was worried that the company might be fake, but by the first week of May, all of my chairs had finally arrived.
However, I was disappointed to find that all of the chairs were from their remanufactured line-up. Only one out of the five chairs, the Aeron, lived up to my expectations of a remanufactured chair. The fabric on all of the Steelcase products was very poorly done, with many loose threads and a low level of quality. I would not trust them to reupholster a chair.
The Leap V2 had five different issues, with three different components broken in shipment. It took me four emails with pictures and a threat to challenge the credit card statement for them to ship repair pieces. When they did ship, there were no instructions, so if you are not mechanically inclined, you would have little to no chance of fixing it. Additionally, there is a permanent seam in the back of the upholstery because they glued it in place without smoothing it out. They also did not trim excess fabric on any of the chairs, so there were random pieces of fabric sticking out from them.
The Steelcase arm pads are designed to be replaced, but to save a few bucks, they did some weird reupholstery to it as well on the Leap. The Gesture and Amia chairs appeared to have new pads, or at least were in great shape. However, the fabric edges were a big negative for those two chairs.
The Mirra chair we ordered either had bolts stripped in the frame from the factory, or they did not install the correct bolts. Whoever installed it did go out of their way to make it look correct, but the result was that it took about two weeks before the back of the chair separated into 3 pieces. The company won't ship new bolts or a replacement chair back. Their only solution is to ship back the whole chair and then they will replace it. The problem is either a bolt or the chair back, and neither of those make sense to ship a whole chair.
If they make an exception, you have to find a box that fits exact dimensions. I, along with a couple of coworkers, spent a couple of hours trying to find the box, but we couldn't. As a last ditch effort, I tried to order another chair from them and told them I ordered one to get a box. However, they cancelled the order! This is the most unethical and sleazy company I have dealt with in a long time.
Madison Seating Review: Top-Notch Products, Affordable Prices, and Excellent Service
Listen up folks, I'm here to tell you about Madisonseating.com and let me tell you, don't let them fool you. Covid-19 has been a real kick in the pants for businesses everywhere, and it's still going strong. I've seen a lot of reviews on here from people who seem to think their city is a country and their country is the world. But anyone with half a brain knows that meeting shipping deadlines is out of many businesses' hands these days. However, that didn't stop Madison Seating from delivering a top-notch product just a few days outside of their estimated delivery time. They said 14 days after purchase, and I got my tracking info email on day 16 or 17. The chair arrived a few days later (I live in Ohio, they're in New Jersey), and even the packaging was top-notch.
Now, I do a lot of online ordering. More than you, I'd bet my life on it. And so far, unless I'm buying something totally out of left field and low priority, not a single business has been delivering on time. But that's just how it is these days, right? Covid-19 means everyone is struggling and life-support needs like food, water, and medicine take priority for shipping worldwide. Everyone else is left to compete for second place. But I digress...
Madison Seating sent me a high-quality chair that was loaded with adjustment options, new upholstery, and saved me over $700. The reason they sell "so cheap" is because of "blemishes." I kid you not. My V2 Leap Chair (by Steelcase) had a few minor, superficial scratches on the aluminum base frame. That's it! If I hadn't been looking for the imperfections, I honestly can't say I would have noticed them. Mind blown. I can't believe I got this chair for the price I paid.
Listen, if you're a gamer, content creator, or someone who spends a lot of time in front of a computer, do yourself a favor and invest in your health. This is an ergonomic health purchase, plain and simple. No more leg and feet swelling, proper posture, and everything from my neck down to my feet has never felt better. Not only does this speak to the quality products Steelcase manufactures, but it's a testament to the refurbishing care and know-how that Madison Seating has in ensuring you get more than what you pay for.
Honestly, my one regret in life is that I'm not a millionaire so I could donate a substantial sum to Madison Seating to help them through this devastating year for small businesses. They're that great at what they do! Save your wallet, invest in your health, and get a chair from these people. You won't regret it. Apparently, I should have ordered two, because even Super Widdles approves (see photo).
Madison Seating Review: Poor Customer Service and Illegal Actions in Refund Process
I ordered two chairs from Madison Seating on March 21, 2020. They charged my credit card right away for both chairs. On April 3, I received an email that both chairs shipped, but only the Herman Miller Aeron arrived on April 4. I was happy with the Aeron and emailed Madison about the second chair. They said it would ship "next week."
On April 21, 2020, one month from the order date, I received the Humanscale chair, which was not in mere "open box" condition, but clearly heavily USED. The same day, I emailed Madison with photos, showing that it was a stained, scratched and snagged chair. Madison said it cannot open the files. I re-send in JPG format. Madison says "no attachments." I email photos within Google drive with a link. I also send photos separately embedded in Gmail. I email again to confirm receipt of photos. No response. I follow up the next day. No response.
On April 28, 2020, not having a response, I emailed Madison to have the chair picked up and that I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. On April 30, I received an email offering for me to keep the chair with a 50% discount. I was not interested in keeping a heavily used and dirty chair for $250.
On May 1, 2020, Madison sent me an email threatening to file a police report for "stolen merchandise."
On May 5, 2020, Madison sends another threatening email, again claiming the chair is "stolen merchandise" and that I would have to defend said action in New York. (No legal basis).
On May 5, 2020, an unidentified person with caller ID of Madison Seating calls my home number and leaves message purporting to be a third party investigator looking into "stolen merchandise" and threatening to call my local police department.
On May 6, 2020, after getting a letter from my attorney (which detailed all their illegal actions), Madison FINALLY send a pre-paid shipping label for me to return the used chair. I accept Madison's offer to resolve the matter with the return of the chair in exchange for the full refund for the chair. The chair has been boxed up with the label affixed. Photos of the same are included in the email to Madison.
On May 7, 2020, (as I would find out later from the documents received by my credit card company), Madison challenges the dispute. To support its challenge to my credit card dispute, it includes a letter dated 4/24/20 which is obviously fake since I did not file the dispute until 4/28/20! Also, they falsely claim that they already sent me the return label, but the label is clearly generated on 5/6/20.
On May 8, 2020, UPS picked up the chair. On May 19, 2020, the chair's receipt by Madison is confirmed.
On May 24, 2020, after getting a letter from my credit card company, I call to find out that Madison has NOT indicated the matter resolved.
On May 27, 2020, I send an email demand that Madison either issue credit or inform the credit card company that the matter is resolved. Madison REFUSES to cooperate.
On May 28, 2020, another email is sent to Madison to confirm receipt of the chair and to reverse the charge. Madison never responds.
Subsequently, I found out from my credit card company that they have tried repeated to contact Madison to release the refund from their bank. The person who answers the phone at Madison indicates that "the person who handles that" is not in, just left, out for several days, etc. Not surprisingly, they do not return calls.
It is very disappointing that Madison Seating did not provide me with the service I expected. I had to go through a lot of trouble to get a refund for the chair that was not in the condition I expected. The customer service was not helpful and it was very difficult to get a response from them. I hope that Madison Seating will improve their service in the future so that other customers do not have to go through the same experience.
Review of Madison Seating: My Experience Buying an Aeron Chair from Them
Yo, I've been wanting a Herman Miller chair for years now. I first sat in an Aeron back in 2010 when my old job got them for the office. But let's be real, those chairs are hella expensive (over $1100) so I checked out Madison Seating since they sell 'em on Amazon. But they didn't have the newer Aeron v2 listed so I went straight to their website.
I was pretty nervous about ordering from Madison Seating since I read a bunch of mixed reviews about them online. People were saying all sorts of negative stuff, and I even heard they got sued by Herman Miller. But I guess they settled that now.
Anyway, I put in my order on January 3rd, right after the holidays. Their website says it usually takes 10-14 days to ship, so when it hit day 14 I hit them up for an update. They got back to me real quick, within an hour or so, and said sorry for the delay. I mean, I wasn't expecting Amazon Prime speeds or anything, especially for a big item like this. But I saw a lot of other people giving them 1 star reviews just 'cause of slow shipping times. That ain't right. My chair finally arrived on January 23rd, so it took 20 days total.
The chair was packaged real well in a Madison Seating box. But I still took some pics just in case, 'cause I was still worried after reading all those negative reviews. When I opened it up, the Aeron v2 was in two parts - the back and the base. They even included an allen key in a little bag attached to the chair. The back attached real easy with 4 bolts.
I was still skeptical about the purchase, so I checked a few things to make sure it was legit. If you run your fingers behind the back rest (at the top), you'll feel dots that signify the size. I ordered a size B and there were two dots, just like there should be. The base also had a B imprinted underneath. And at the back of the back-rest was the Herman Miller logo. The older Aeron's have 'Herman Miller' written out, but mine just had the H logo. I checked online and it seems like that's legit too.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, I took apart the boxed unit that's located under the seat where the tension knob comes from. It un-clipped real easy, and I wanted to see if there was any dust or dirt inside. But it looked brand new.
Maybe I got lucky, but I'm real happy with my chair. It cost $699, which is a lot cheaper than buying a new one. It looks, smells, and feels brand new. The arm rests don't show any signs of wear and there's no damage at all. I've been told that since it's a Herman Miller, it'll last me a lifetime.
As for Madison Seating, maybe they learned some lessons from that lawsuit and all the negative reviews. All I can say is read their terms and conditions, and know what to expect with their 'open box' products. Mine was an open box item. Don't expect it to arrive in 3 weeks, and if it comes earlier then you'll be pleasantly surprised. They got back to me real quick when I hit them up for updates, so I can't really complain about that. But I know people like to complain and get angry when things don't go their way, which is why there's more negative reviews than positive ones.
My experience with Madison Seating was good, and I hope they keep it up for all their future customers. If there's one thing they could do better, it's have faster shipping times. And if they offered free returns (without that $50 re-stock fee) with their 30 day no hassle guarantee, then more people would probably buy from them.
Madison Seating: Unprofessional and Unreliable - Beware of Potential Damages to Your Flooring
I've been in the contract office furniture business for over 15 years, and I've bought from Madison Seating many times. My most recent purchase was for around 25 Aeron Chairs. Unfortunately, the casters on the chairs ended up ruining my client's carpet. The caster material seemed to be crumbling away, leaving black marks all over the carpet. After just a month, there was a dark black ring where the users were sitting. I called Madison Seating to see what the issue was, and they simply responded by saying, "you should buy upgraded casters." When I asked them what flooring the standard casters were used for, they couldn't give me a straight answer. So, I called Herman Miller and was told that the standard casters on the Aeron Chairs are indeed meant for carpet. Armed with this new information, I wanted to place a warranty claim. However, the people at Madison Seating were incredibly rude, spoke to me with raised voices, and were disrespectful. The Madison Seating 10-year warranty is not what one would expect. The consumer has to ship the chair BACK to Madison Seating, and they will fix it, but the consumer also has to pay for parts. Shipping costs are at the consumer's expense. As a courtesy, they said they would ship me the casters, but I would still have to pay for them. Needless to say, I was not too happy. The casters were falling apart, clearly a warranty claim, and I had to pay for new parts.
My experience with Madison Seating was not great, so I went on a review site and gave them a negative review. No biggie, it happens. But this is where the story gets good. No sooner did I click on the submit button, and I get an email from Madison Seating stating the following:
"Based on your recent review, we will no longer be offering you the courtesy option of sending you parts. Please send the entire chair to the following address for repair service."
I sent them an email back telling them that they should stand behind their products and the furniture dealers that support them (buy from them). They got me upset, so I went to another review site and put in another bad review.
I was then sent another email from Madison Seating with the following:
"This email is to notify you that we too will be reporting you to other online merchant services regarding the circumstances surrounding your order. In this way, other online retailers will decide if they want to fulfill your future online requests based on our experience with you.
Some of these online retailers will be emailing you with a review summary that we have provided. Other platforms will just retain this information for any online retailer that registers or requests this information.
We are sorry you felt the need to escalate this matter unnecessarily."
I received another email from Madison Seating the next day saying the following:
"You will be receiving an email within the next 24-48 hours from various online companies regarding the review we posted concerning our transaction. Some of these reviews will be live within that time frame. The review will be under Company Name*** as well as ***MY NAME!***. (You may have already seen some of these reviews posted under your company name)"
I think this is quite childish. At the end of the day, Madison Seating had an opportunity to do the right thing, solidify a relationship with a contract office furniture dealer, and simply send us replacement casters for the chairs. Instead, they destroyed a relationship using bullying tactics. My reviews are honest and based on my experience with Madison Seating. Madison Seating's actions are based on spite and vengeance.
If you're considering purchasing from Madison Seating, be careful. The savings you might get from purchasing used chairs might not be worth the headache or potential damages the chairs may cause to your flooring.
Madison Seating's Deceptive "Satisfaction Guarantee" - A Warning to Buyers

Madison Seating has made some positive changes to their website, and I have to give them props for that. They have corrected the issues I encountered in my original review, and I have upgraded my review by one star. However, I cannot justify giving them more than that unless I have a more positive experience with them in the future. Nonetheless, they are moving in the right direction, and that's worth noting.
I recently revisited their site and noticed that they have removed their deceptive "satisfaction guarantee" blurb and replaced it with a more accurate "moneyback guarantee" link. Additionally, the new link takes you directly to their Terms of Service, which is a significant improvement from the previous link that led to a page full of misinformation.
For those who are curious, I have attached a screenshot of what their old "satisfaction guarantee" used to promise. The issue was that they charged a $200 return shipping fee for a chair that cost $500, which was a significant amount. At that point, it would have been better to buy a new chair for a few hundred dollars more.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
Madison Seating's "satisfaction guarantee" is false advertising and worthless. They claim that you have 30 days to return an item, and they will pay the return shipping. However, this is a lie. Hidden in their terms and conditions, they state that the customer is liable to pay return shipping, and they also charge a $50 restocking fee. When we ordered an Aeron chair that was too small, it cost us $216 to return the chair due to the shipping and restocking fee.
They do indicate that their chairs are open box, which is true, but a bit deceptive. Essentially, they are used chairs that Madison Seating refurbishes. They claim to provide a 10-year warranty for their Aeron chairs, but given how untrustworthy their "satisfaction guarantee" is, I wouldn't trust this one bit. The chair we received was in good condition and looked practically new, so if you're sure you're getting what you want the first time, it can still be a good deal.
Their shipping was also VERY SLOW. The estimated arrival was 8-10 business days from the order date, but it took over 2 weeks before they made a shipping order, and then another 3 days before they finally shipped it.
In conclusion, if you're certain you know exactly what you want, and you can't find a better price for a nearly-new chair, Madison may still be your best option. Just be aware of what you're getting into.
Update 12/14/2016: Madison is now threatening legal action because of my reviews pointing out their dishonesty. At this point, I cannot recommend this company under any circumstances.
I have photo proof of the purchase, screenshot proof of their lies on their website, which at this point, anyone can still see for themselves, and if they change it, I'm quite certain Google cache will still reveal the truth to anyone who cares.
DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

As I already stated in my honest and accurate review, you can find the ACTUAL return policy hidden away in the terms and conditions. Calling it "clearly visible" is somewhat disingenuous, as the terms and conditions are not easily accessible until the purchase page, and then not highly visible so as to attract attention. Unlike the entirely false so-called "satisfaction guarantee" made extremely visible and attention-grabbing on the home page. It is blatant false advertising, nothing more, nothing less. Any company this blatant and shameless with false advertising is a company I can neither trust nor recommend to anyone else to any extent.
The fact that so many reviews exist revealing similar experiences speaks volumes.
Also note that to this date, Madison Seating has never contacted us in any attempt to resolve this amicably, but only to threaten. We ended up selling the chair ourselves at a far more moderate and less-costly loss than returning it.

Madison Seating Review: Poor Customer Service and Lack of Instructions for Expensive Chair Purchase
Madison Seating really let me down. It all started when I received my chair and there were no instructions on how to assemble it. I searched online for a while, but couldn't find anything helpful. So, I reached out to customer service and waited for a response. When they finally got back to me, they just sent me a link to a YouTube video. I couldn't believe it! I paid a lot of money for this chair and they couldn't even include proper instructions.
To make matters worse, they also sent me a part that didn't even belong to the chair. It took me a while to figure out where it went, and when I contacted customer service about it, they just said it was a mistake. I was really frustrated at this point.
Once I finally got the chair assembled, I realized that it was too small for me. I'm 6'4" and the chair just wasn't going to work. I found a YouTube video that showed how to verify the size of the Aeron chair, and it confirmed that they had shipped me the wrong size. When I contacted customer service again, they didn't even apologize. They just sent me a shipping label to return the chair. This was a huge hassle because I had to take the chair apart and find a big box to ship it back in. I also had to miss a day of work to wait for FedEx to come pick it up.
After I returned the chair, they said they would send me a new one right away. But they didn't. They waited until they received the returned chair and then waited another week to send the new one. It's been a month and a half of chair drama, and I'm still not happy with the service I received from Madison Seating.
If you're thinking about buying a chair from them, I would recommend looking elsewhere. They might have good deals, but they clearly don't care about their customers. Save yourself the hassle and buy locally.

So, we were moving from one coast to another and we needed to get a new office chair. We found Madisonseating online and decided to order from them. They promised that the chair would arrive in 10 to 15 business days, which was perfect for us. We didn't want to ship it because we trusted Madisonseating to deliver it on time.
As the end of the time frame approached, we started to get worried because we hadn't heard anything from Madisonseating. We reached out to them to confirm that the chair was on its way, but they told us that due to Covid-19 delays, it would be an additional two weeks. We were a bit surprised because their website still said that the chair would arrive in 10 to 15 days if we ordered it that same day. But we thought, "okay, we can wait two more weeks."
Two weeks passed, and we still hadn't heard anything from Madisonseating. We reached out to them again, and they told us that it would be as much as another month before the chair would arrive. At this point, we were frustrated and decided to cancel our order.
It was clear to us that Madisonseating didn't have the chair in stock, but they were still selling it with a promise that it would arrive on time. They didn't even bother to let us know that our order was delayed. We had to reach out to them multiple times to get any information.
They blamed Covid-19 for the delays, but we felt like they were just stringing us along. We ended up buying a chair locally because we had already moved cross-country by the time Madisonseating finally admitted that they couldn't deliver the chair.
Overall, we were disappointed with our experience with Madisonseating. We wouldn't recommend them to anyone who needs a chair quickly or who wants to be kept informed about their order.

I bought a Herman Miller Aeron chair from Madisonseating.com, and I was excited to get it. The price was really good, but it was supposed to take 10-14 business days to ship. I was okay with that because I was getting a good deal. But after 14 business days, I still hadn't heard anything about my order. I was starting to get worried, so I contacted customer service.
They told me that the chair I ordered was out-of-stock. I was really surprised because I never got any notification about it being out-of-stock. I waited for three weeks, and I didn't hear anything. I checked the website, and it didn't say anything about it being out-of-stock either.
I was disappointed, but they offered to substitute a different chair size. They said it would take another 10-14 business days to ship. I wasn't happy about that, but I agreed to it. Then, they cancelled my order without asking me. I was really upset because they didn't even apologize or explain why they cancelled my order. They didn't even offer me anything to keep my business.
I was curious, so I went back to the website to see if I could still order the chair I wanted. To my surprise, I was able to put it in my cart without any indication that it was out-of-stock. I asked customer service about it, and they said they were updating their site.
I understand that businesses are having a hard time right now, but I don't think it's okay to make a customer wait for three weeks for nothing. They should have told me that the chair was out-of-stock when I ordered it. And why does it take so long to ship a chair that's in-stock?
I decided to look for other retailers with similar prices and better reviews. I found some, and I took my business elsewhere. I suggest you do the same.

I gotta say, I'm pretty bummed about my experience with Madisonseating. I was really excited to get a new chair for my home office, so I ordered one from them back in July. I understand that COVID has messed up a lot of things, but I really wish they had handled this better. Madisonseating Delivery Nightmare: A Review of My Desk Ordeal
Man, let me tell you about my experience with Madisonseating. I ordered a desk from them and it turned into a whole ordeal. First off, the delivery company they used was straight up terrible. They didn't even bother to call and schedule a delivery time, they just showed up unannounced and then got lost on the way to my place. I had to spend a good half hour giving them turn-by-turn directions just to get them to my door.
And then, to top it all off, they didn't even deliver the desk because I wasn't home. I specifically told them to drop it off at the leasing office, but they didn't listen. So I come home and there's no package at the office. And then they have the nerve to tell me they'll charge me $100 for another delivery attempt because I couldn't take their surprise delivery.
After a week of going back and forth with the delivery company and Madisonseating, they finally agreed not to charge me for another delivery attempt. But then, when I finally got my desk, only one of the boxes had the parts I needed. The other box had the legs to a completely different item, like a coffee table or something.
So now I'm stuck dealing with customer service and the delivery company again just to get the legs to my desk. It's been a whole mess and I still haven't gotten my whole desk yet. I mean, I think they'll eventually get everything to me, but I'm never ordering from Madisonseating again. They need to find a new delivery company, especially in the L.A. area. It's just been a total pain.
Madisonseating Review: Open Box Nightmare - Avoid at All Costs!
So, I thought I was getting a brand spanking new chair from Madisonseating, but boy was I wrong. When I received my package, I was shocked to find out that they had sent me an "open box" chair. Now, I know what you're thinking, "what's wrong with that?" Well, let me tell you, this chair looked like it had been through the wringer. It was covered in dust and scratches, the cloth on the seat and back was so dirty that I had to give it a good scrub down before I could even think about sitting in it. And don't even get me started on the gooey stains, I couldn't even look at them without feeling queasy.
To make matters worse, the chair had several stripped screw holes and Allen screws, which meant that I couldn't even put it together properly without a trip to the hardware store. And let's not forget about the fact that it looked like a piece of crap compared to a brand new Aeron chair.
I called Madisonseating to complain and they said that I could send it back for a refund, but they wouldn't pay for the $285 return shipping cost. Can you believe that? I ended up losing $285 on the entire transaction.
After doing some research, I found out that Madisonseating has a history of fraud and even got sued by Herman Miller for it. So, take my advice and avoid these guys like the plague. Spread the word and save yourself the headache.
Misleading "No Hassle, Easy Return Sales Policy" at Madison Seating
So, I was on the phone waiting to speak to a Madison Seating sales rep, and I heard a message about their "No Hassle, Easy Return Sales Policy". That made me feel pretty good about buying a side table from them.
But when the table arrived, it just didn't work for the spot we had planned to use it. So, I called to arrange returning the item, and they told me that I needed to email them instead of calling. That seemed a bit strange, but it made more sense after I got an email from them with their Terms of Use. It said that I would get a credit for the purchase price of the item, minus a 30% restocking fee and the initial shipping cost.
That meant that out of the $105.73 I spent, I would only get a refund of $19.02. That's less than 20% of the cost, with $66.71 being taken out for the restocking fee and initial shipping, and then another $20 for postage to send the table back. So, basically, it cost me around $90 just to return a $105 item using Madison Seating's "No Hassle, Easy Return Sales Policy".
I called to complain today, and they told me that I had clicked a Terms of Use Agreement when I bought the table. They also said that they had sent me an additional email with the Terms of Use after I initiated the return. So, legally, Madison Seating was covered.
I know that it was my fault for not reading the initial Agreement more closely. Maybe I'm just too used to clicking "Agree" on all those Apple updates. But I still feel like it's misleading to have a "No Hassle, Easy Return Sales Policy" when their return policy is actually more strict than any other furniture store I've dealt with.
I'm not saying that this company is trying to deceive anyone. But after this experience, I definitely feel like I've been deceived.

Office chairs can be a real pain in the wallet, and that's why I decided to give Madisonseating a try. They specialize in refurbished chairs that are a fraction of the cost of a brand new one. I knew that I wasn't going to get a chair that was like-new for 85% off of retail, but I decided to take my chances with them. Unfortunately, my chair arrived three weeks late, but it was well packed and looked new mechanically. However, the fabric was noticeably lower quality than the stock OEM weave and the chair padding was not up to OEM par either. I've used this exact chair at my company for years, and I know how it should look and feel.
I left a 3-star product review on their site stating basically what I just posted above--that the chair mechanics looked great, but that the refurbished padding and fabric were both really poor quality compared to OEM, and that the fabric swatches they have on their own site didn't match the poor quality fabric I received on my chair. But then something strange happened. They edited my 3-star review and removed the information I described regarding the fabric and padding. They also changed my product review to a 5-star review, which is deceptive and unethical in my opinion.
To be fair, customer service did contact me after I posted an initial 1-star review and tried to make things right. That's why I bumped my review up to 3 stars. But even with their offer to waive the restocking fee, it's just not worth the time, cost, and hassle of returning the chair. It's not a bad chair for the price, and I will probably get the padding replaced and reupholstered with better quality materials at some point, since the chair frame, levers, and hydraulics are actually in pretty solid shape. But if I had seen this chair in person first, I probably would not have purchased it, especially since I now know that they censor and edit product reviews on their own site. Would I buy from Madison again? Probably not.
Madisonseating Review: False Advertising, Terrible Customer Service, and Months-Long Delays
I was super stoked to buy a chair from Madisonseating! I mean, who doesn't love a good chair, am I right? So, I went ahead and made the purchase, and they told me it would be shipped in 10 to 14 business days. No biggie, I thought, I can wait that long. But then, the days turned into weeks, and I still hadn't received my chair. So, I decided to shoot them an email to see what was up. And guess what? They told me it would be shipped by the end of the month. Okay, I thought, I can wait a little longer. But then, the end of the month came and went, and still no chair. So, I emailed them again, and this time they told me it would be shipped in the middle of October. Alright, I thought, I can wait a little longer. But then, you guessed it, October came and went, and still no chair. So, I emailed them again, and this time they told me it would be shipped mid November.
Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that there are delays in shipping because of Covid. But what I don't understand is why they couldn't be transparent about it from the get-go. I mean, if they know there are delays, why not just tell me that when I make the purchase? And why do I have to be the one to reach out to them every time to find out what's going on? And don't even get me started on their customer service. When you call in, it says they're experiencing "short delays" in shipping. But 2 1/2 months is not a short delay, my friends.
To make matters worse, when I went to look at the shipping times as if I was purchasing a new chair, it still said 10 to 14 days. That's false advertising if you ask me. And when I complained and asked to speak to a manager, they just went ahead and canceled my order without even asking me if I wanted it canceled. I mean, come on, that's just rude.
I've purchased things from other companies that have delays because of Covid, and you know what? They were transparent about it. They let me know upfront that there might be delays, and they kept me updated throughout the process. But Madisonseating? Nope, they just kept stringing me along. And when I finally had enough and decided to leave a review, they canceled my order because of it. That's just not cool, man.
So, if you're thinking about doing business with Madisonseating, I would highly recommend that you don't. Unless, of course, you enjoy waiting months for your chair and dealing with terrible customer service. And if you do decide to go ahead and make a purchase, just know that there might be delays, and they might not be upfront with you about it. But hey, maybe you'll get lucky and actually receive your chair on time. Stranger things have happened, right?

I purchased a Steelcase Leap chair from Madison Seating for a Christmas gift for my husband. I ordered it a few weeks before Christmas, but it didn't arrived until Jan. 4th. The late delivery wasn't too big an issue, I should have read the shipping policy and realized it would arrive late. But when it arrived, one of the arm-rests was broken. I contacted Customer Service that same day (Jan. 4) before 1:30 in the afternoon, and was told all the Customer Service team had already gone home for the day and couldn't help me until Monday. I asked if it was customary for them to close before 2 PM on Fridays, and they said sometimes. Later they emailed me to say that they're a Jewish company and so must close earlier on Friday for the Sabbath. I was raised with similar customs, so I was bit surprised, because sundown on Friday evening is nowhere near 2 pm, but I just accepted the explanation. I was told on Monday that they were shipping me the replacement parts and I would get them as soon as possible.
I received a shipping confirmation email from Madison Seating saying my order of replacement parts had been shipped on Jan. 8. I contacted them on Jan. 20th to find out why they hadn't arrived yet. They informed me that they hadn't shipped them at all, and they'd be shipping them in "24-48 hours". No apologies at any time. That was Jan. 20th. They arrived today, 11 days later, Jan. 31. I called UPS to find out when they were actually shipped. UPS informed me that the shipping label was created on Jan. 10, but my package wasn't actually shipped until Jan. 25th.
I am beyond angry at this company. What kind of company cares so little for their customers that they ship a broken product, take nearly a month to ship them a replacement piece (not a new chair, just a replacement arm-rest), and NEVER ONCE APOLOGIZE? Not to mention outright lying and telling me they had shipped my replacement parts on the 8th. And on the 10th. And "24-48 hours" after the 20th.
Oh, and the kicker? When the replacement parts arrived today, one of them was already broken.
Save your money and your sanity, and shop at a place that actually gives two cents about their customers.
I'm updating a previous negative review I left for Madison Seating to say that despite my initial bad impression, when I was mailed a broken chair and left with it for a month, as of today, Sara from Madison Seating reached out, she was very apologetic and kind, and said this never should have happened. She is now not only sending me the replacement parts I needed, but also a second chair at no cost, as an apology. I feel much better about Madison Seating's customer service after this, and the company as a whole. It appears that I simply dealt with one very rude customer service rep the entire time, and I'm hopeful now that this experience was the exception, not the rule. The positive experience of having them go above and beyond to correct their mistake is worth more to me than the initial bad impression they left.

Bought chair had bad arm rests and a used bottom seat that sags. If you want the 10 year warranty you have to spend $300 to ship back and forth. Spend the extra money on a Herman Miller directly and get the 17 year warranty where they come to your house to fix warranty repairs. I have owned 4 Herman Miller chairs, this being the fourth. Do not buy used CRAP with fine print warranty.

So know I know not to call & only write & request a bigger box for RTV as chair would not fit in original box.
Fourth Hassle. No we do not provide boxes or can pay for FEDEX to pack.
Fifth hassle so now I need to go to FEDEX & pay them $30.00 to box this item up.

Unwilling to honor satisfaction guarantee
I purchased an item on their website which is, as published, covered by a "100% satisfaction guarantee" This guarantee according to their website allows customers to return purchased items if for any reason they are not happy with their purchase as long as they do it within 30 days of receipt, and in addition they mention twice that they will cover the return shipping cost.
My purchase was supposed to be delivered on December 30th but it wasn't. I started an investigation with FedEx and according to Madison Seating, on January 4th they started a "full trace investigation" with FedEx as well. On January 5th the item is delivered and I contact Madison Seating by email to confirm receipt. Receipt is therefore acknowledged by both parties on January 5th 2017.
On January 25th, well within the 30 days from receipt, I contact Madison Seating to return the item. They provide a return authorization code, but fail to provide appropriate shipping instructions. I go to FedEx and UPS with the authorization code and both tell me that shipping is not covered.
I contact Madison Seating promptly. First, they say that shipping is not covered. When I refer them to their own guarantee, they change their argument to "it's now too late, that only applies within the 30 days from receipt"
First of all, receipt was January 5th so we were within 20 days of receipt. But even if they want to consider receipt on December 30th (which is not true) I would still have been within 30 days from receipt.
I tried amicably to resolve the issue on multiple occasions and even offered to share the shipping cost. They continuously refuse to reach an agreement, and continuously refuse to honor their "satisfaction guarantee"
Follow up on the complaint filed earlier today: I immediately received the following email from Madison Seating:
This email is to notify you that we will be reporting you to other online merchant services regarding the circumstances surrounding your order. In this way, other online retailers will decide if they want to fulfill your future online requests based on our experience with you.
Some of these online retailers will be emailing you with a review summary that we have provided. Other platforms will just retain this information for any online retailer that registers or requests this information.
We are sorry you felt the need to escalate this matter unnecessarily.

Received a chair that was ordered 12/27/16 today and it is defective. Called the number on paper work and was told they do not take calls I have to email service department. Shortly after sending my email I received a reply with a you tube video of how to operate my chair and instructions to reply if this doesn't work. I replied it doesn't work and need someone to call me with an RMA so I can return the chair. Several hours later no response so I email again and follow up an hour later with another email and a phone call. Spoke with a very rude "Joseph" claiming to be Sr. Customer service Manager and "I should not expect a response in 5 minutes of sending my email" He refused to give his last name or email and said he would be handling all of my issues. I told him I was very disappointed in the "100% customer satisfaction guarantee" as stated on the letter that arrived with my chair. He was very rude and was told we would most likely never do business with them again.

THAT'S the policy they adhere to. Their claims of playing return shipping are worth less than the paper it's printed on. Oh, and on top of you having to pay return shipping, they also charge a $50 restocking fee. So be darn sure you're getting exactly what you want, because it'll cost you $100-$200 or more to return it.

Sold me an old refurbished chair, as "new" - - unethical
I feel SCAMMED. I purchased a brand new Freedom Task Chair with Headrest from Madison Seating online in 2012. I THOUGHT I bought a brand new chair, but slowly over the course of 3 years, the wheels started to crack and fall apart, and the head rest and seat back would tear and rub off from normal use, the screws from the back side was coming out and not staying into the cushions, and the plastic backing was coming apart from the frame that attaches to the leather. This chair was falling apart everywhere except the actual frame which is metal and plastic and stayed intact. I use the chair as a home office chair under normal use with hardwood floors, just myself, and I don't weigh more than 150 lbs. I took the seat cushion and head rest and the back rest apart and found that the chair was from 2007! There were labels on the inside of the parts showing that this was made in 2007, and I bought this in 2012. They sold me a BAD OLD CHAIR!
I had to get new parts including the wheels directly from Humanscale headquarters. When I compared the new parts from Humanscale with the old bad original parts from Madison Seating it was like night and day: the new parts had good smooth leather and was not rubbery/sticky like with the bad Madison Seating parts, the stitching was superior, the stapling was neater, and the leather was cut nicely and not all frayed. It was as if someone tried to reupholster it with bad leather, leather that doesn't even match Humanscale's leather at all. If you try to deal with Madison Seating for replacement parts, they will ask you to send the whole chair back so they can fix it (you must pay for the shipping both ways, which would be around $200 in shipping for me). What a nightmare.
I'm so glad Humanscale Corporate Headquarters was able to help me fix the chair with brand new parts. Just don't buy from Madison Seating! DO NOT BUY HUMANSCALE CHAIRS FROM THERE! Madison's warranty doesn't cover shipping costs both ways and it's so expensive to ship the whole thing both ways. Plus, they may ship you a refurbished chair, if they cannot fix it, which is what I believe I got in the first place. I found out online at Humanscale that Madison Seating is NOT AN AUTHORIZED RESELLER (meaning that Madison's customer service and product quality does NOT meet the manufacturer’s quality and customer service standards).
Also, I should mention that someone at Madison Seating (or wherever they got that chair) tried to remove the labels showing that the chair was made in 2007. There were deep dented scratch marks all over one of the labels as if someone used a metal tool to remove the date label to hide the fact that they were made that year. It shows that someone really tried hard to hide the fact that they were old parts. No wonder everything was falling apart! SO SHADY!
I was NOT 100% happy with the chair and did not want to be charged to ship the chair back. It’s expensive to ship a chair back to the east coast from west coast! The reason why the chair was cheaper in the first place was because it was OLD. THEY SOLD ME AN OLD CHAIR! What kind of chair breaks down in 3 years time from the wheel casters (all 5 wheels) to the leather and seat and back cushions? Chairs that are old break down like that (from 2007 to 2015). I was scammed and they sold me an old chair that was refurbished most likely.
I am HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS of all the 5 star ratings I see on other websites. Makes me wonder how this scam company got these ratings.
I have photographs to prove all of the above in my statement. See the pictures here below. You can see the difference in the quality of the stitching between the old head rest (white, poorly stapled and frayed edges) and the new head rest from Humanscale corporate headquarters (black and clean lines, neat and clean stapling). Look at the label being torn off on one piece, and how they left the other label on (from 2007). I will be searching other review sites to post my review and warn other people about this online scam company.
Still not sure if you should buy a chair from here? Search online for these keywords: "Class Action Lawsuit Madison Seating" and you will find the story behind their business model. Seems like the owners of the company may have a history with selling old chairs.
Updated pictures. See the rubbed off "leather". Is it even real leather? Can someone tell me? It certainly doesn't match the quality of leather that I got from the manufacturer when I got my replacement part directly from the manufacturer (Humanscale headquarters, NOT Madison Seating).
