100% misleading communication throughout the process go with another company if you want to feel confident in your move
100% misleading communication throughout the process go with another company if you want to feel confident in your move.
Here's a list of things that I was told, often by multiple people both on the sales side and support side, that ended up contradicting each other or were straight fabrications. When I informed the supervisor, Omar, about these his explanation was that his staff "was new". I find it unlikely that everybody from sales and 4 separate people in support were all new.
1) Sales: they tell you that if you put the deposit down you will lock in the dates they give you. This is not true; they are not locked in until *afteryou put the deposit down and they check with the dispatcher. I had already booked local movers for packing/unpacking so this was problematic.
2) In sales and support: you will be able to secure your belongings on the truck behind some sort of locked mechanism. I was told this by both a sales person, which got me to agree to their business, and by 2*** different support people. This is not how it works. There is no lock. You can't lock any of your things. You just put them on the truck and hope everything is ok.
By the way, when I asked Omar about how I could feel confident that nobody would try to take anything from my completely unsecured belongings, he said "we use professional movers" and if it were him "he would 100% want a lock on it" Again, you CANNOT lock it.
3) If you use the whole truck (they charge you per linear foot) the truck will be fully secured. Also not true. I used the whole truck, told MovingPlace / Hire a Helper, and my lock was still cut off the trailer.
4) Pick up of both the loaded and unloaded trailer by the dispatch folks is automatic and you do not need to be present for this. I'm still not sure what the actual answer is here. I was told multiple times, assured even, that I would not need to be present for the full truck to be picked up. I even booked a flight based on that assurance. 24 hours before it was picked up I was told I was "supposed to be" present and if anything happened that it was my fault.
5) That I would receive notification via email or phone call during the move when the truck was checked for how much space was used, and then I would be notified about how much extra I would be charged.
This never happened; none of it. I checked my credit card about 5 days after the truck was delivered and they just charged me no invoice, receipt, confirmation of payment, nothing.
There are a number of other communication discrepancies and outright contradictions I could point out, but these were the most notable.
Go somewhere else with your business. Two Men and A Truck is a much more professional company, for example.
I moved from CA to VA at the end of Sept 2021 and paid for full service as I figured it would've easier for A Moving Place to take care of
I moved from CA to VA at the end of Sept 2021 and paid for full service as I figured it would've easier for A Moving Place to take care of everything. Communication is horrendous! No one communicates with anyone else which makes an already stressful moving process worse!
First, The service department needs to be retrained because EVERYTHING they told me was incorrect! The "trailer" is not the size of a "garbage truck" which both apartments could accommodate without additional cost, BUT "the trailer" is an "ACTUAL 18 wheeler trailer" that NO residential apartment complex or most neighborhood homes can accommodate so I ended up paying an additional $1,000 ($500 at pickup & $500 at drop off) for my stuff to be loaded and unloaded twice between a regular Penske moving truck and the large 18 wheeler to transport! (At least they did tell me "IF" I needed this service how much it would cost! BUT I didn't find out about the size of the trailer until I had already booked the service and was called with my second problem!
My second issue was apparently "A Moving Place" did NOT schedule my service correctly with the dispatchers so they called me a few days after I paid my deposit to tell me my moving date is unavailable and I had to move a day earlier or they could look into another day the following week! WTH!
I was ***, however because they could not tell me when another day would be available, plus waiting longer to get my stuff was unacceptable I told them fine and scrambled to get ready a day earlier for pickup!
I was asked 3 times if I was going to the loading trailer when I finally asked the movers if I was supposed to they said it was advisable! So in the middle of my last day at work I had to go to the loading dock only to get there and the guy initially said he didn't have any residential moves scheduled! WTF!
So I and one or the movers had to call the contacts we had to figure out what was happening when the guy at the dock finally said maybe he got it wrong and asked what were we trying to do again? The mover explained it to him & lo and behold he miraculously found my paperwork!
The movers then asked me was I staying around until they unloaded and reloaded my stuff and when I asked them how long they say about 1.5-2 hrs! I told him I had to go back to work! He explained to me how things would be loaded and indicated that I should be fine with the space I purchased and offered to take picture and send them to me to confirm! He did and everything fit with 0.5 inches to spare!
Next issue, no matter how many times I asked I never received a confirmation or instructions for moving day or any type of communication from A Moving Space about my stuff. A few days before the expected delivery I contacted them and realized there were issues with the hire a helper crew and that's when I had to pay another $500 and then had to find new workers! At this point I'm sick of this company and just want my stuff!
The guys at the destination were really nice but when I asked who would be reassembling my stuff that was taken apart in CA I was told they didn't bring any tools because they were told to just drop off my stuff but if I found MY ALREADY PACKED TOOLS they would do it for me! WTF! I called A Moving Place coordinator and asked them about reassembly and was told "reassembly was on my order but if they didn't have tools and I can't find mine there's nothing they can do about it! Are you freakin serious!
Since I have NO IDEA how to reassemble a bed I looked through all my stuff and finally found my tools and asked if the guys could put together my bed and dresser and I would do my living room tables myself! Especially because the time I paid for was almost over & I preferred to tip the workers and not pay for additional moving time to reassemble my stuff!
Even after they called to approve the additional $500 (and for some reason was going to charge me an additional $249 for another hour That was not used, but was waived & I only had to pay $500) I still had not received a final receipt! I called them AGAIN and finally confirmed my contact info AGAIN because apparently they had the WRONG email address AND WRONG phone number on my account that was NEVER fixed!
Ultimately, The service from Hire A Helper was great! BUT the communication between Hire A Helper, dispatch, the loading dock and A Moving Place was horrendous and I would only recommend using this service if you are familiar with how this works or do not care about a timeframe or what you are transporting!
Affordable, friendly, fast and professional. Highly recommended! I measured my space, marked it with tape, took photos just in case and swept the trailer after emptying my stuff - No surprise charges. I was offered a discount if the truck would have missed the scheduled delivery date. The tracking was a great way to follow the truck's progress across the country. The youtube video said there would be a hand truck; there wasn't but that was clarified over the phone. It's the only outdated information I found which caused a bit of confusion.

Stuart and Chris answered all my questions in a timely manner. They have me good advise about how much space to book and they actually saved me money. The container arrived when promised and was delivered on time with all my items intact. This company are great to work with and I highly recommend them. A complete run-around!
A complete run-around! We are waiting for our belongings to be delivered to our new home following our move across the country. We can see the truck is sitting at a hub 20 minutes from our new home (since early Monday morning) and won't be delivered until Friday! We have tried to call to get an update on exact delivery date (WHY would it need to sit 20 mins away from us for 4+ days?) and we have been told so many different dates and have been asked to call numerous other companies. NO ONE has been helpful and we have NO idea when our truck will arrive. I would not recommend. Had I known, I would have saved myself $2500 and the headache and driven a U-Haul.

Measure the space and take pictures of measurements
Measure the space and take pictures of measurements. They tried to say I was one foot over my twelve feet of space and charged me for it but I had measured and marked and had photos I sent them. Got my money back they overcharged. The truck inside useable space was not 27 1/2 ft as stated but 27 ft 1 inch. Also driver was not able to put up and lock the bulkhead in front of us. My shipment, even though strapped down securely, moved and shifted to where it ended up leaning to the back. Minimal damage to my belongings but what a mess to untangle so nothing would fall further. Price overall great and did deliver within the time specified. Old Dominion was the trucking line used. Best to double secure your load.

So pleasantly surprised!
So pleasantly surprised! I was really nervous about booking my move with anyone other than the big 3 full-service moving companies. But everything went smoothly and just like they said it would. Trailer was delivered on time, picked up, and delivered to the new destination just like promised. I want to give a shout out to Chris who helped me navigate a major panic attack when I wasn't finished loading the truck on time and he was able to push back the pick up time by a few hours so I could get it done. I would recommend Movingplace to anyone who wants to keep moving costs low without having to drive a U-Haul themselves (price for a full trailer was similar to U-Haul 26ft truck price and I didn't have to drive cross country!
The only complaint I have is that the trailer floor was filthy and got a lot of black dirt on my things which I subsequently got on my new carpet at the new house. So be sure to put something down on the trailer floor (lesson learned!).

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH MOVING PLACE AND HIRE A HELPER!
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH MOVING PLACE AND HIRE A HELPER! Â THEY WORK TOGETHER TO SCAM YOU!
I was originally working with Moving Place to move my things from San Francisco to Austin Texas. Â I spoke with Jeff, whose job is to get you in to sign the deal. He is very nice and calming and stated the truck that was going to be placed at my house was "as big as a dump truck and it would fit on the small streets of San Francisco". Â So I signed the deal put a deposit down. Â Then his partner calls me and states there is no way their large truck would fit on any street in San Francisco. Â It was a very long moving truck and would take up a lane and a half. Â Apparently, it wasn't a trash dump truck. Â However, they always work closely with Hire a Helper. Â Â There were a number of scams going on here.
1st Moving Place should have know that their truck would not fit in San Francisco. But instead they lie, say  the truck was "as big as a trash dump truck,  would fit in San Francisco and take your money.  Then they hand the phone to a second guy who calls several days later and states ,"there is no way the truck would fit and my only option was to work with Hire a Helper.
2. I spoke with Sabrina L., From Hire a Helper. Â She stated they would
load my stuff into a smaller truck at my home , take it to the warehouse where Moving Places truck was and then unload my things into the Moving Place truck. Â They further stated When Moving Place got to Austin, my things would be unloaded off the Moving Place truck into a smaller truck and would be taken and unloaded at my home in Texas for $1550.
3. Then Sabrina hands the phone off to  the "Logistic person "  who called two days later and stated, This order doesn't show the Texas part of unloading the Moving Places truck, putting it  in a smaller truck and transporting  and unloading to my home in Texas.  Although I had the email in my hand with the quoted price of $1550, Sabrina stated  she did not quote that price and that it was an error from her coworker.  She further stated the quote of 1550 does not include the unloading in Texas.  I immediately canceled everything with Moving Place and told them I wanted a full refund.  Sabrina was such a liar and a coward she would not even speak with me the next day.  I gave them two hours to cancel their contract.  She would not call me back and made the logistic guy handle my anger and deal with the contract cancellation. Â
Total Switch and Bait.  The two companies work together and Hire a Helper stated they had merged their companies together.  Moving Place denied  the merge but please BEWARE!
