Skylight acct closure, refund check “not eligible for mobile deposit”
Minor son had a Netspend Skylight account established for direct deposits for a summer job in 2022. He subsequently opened another teen checking account with Capital One to earn interest. We closed his Skylight account in May 2023 and because the account had uneven dollars and cents, that couldn’t be withdrawn via ATM, we chose a paper check refund.
The check arrived within two weeks, but the face of the check states, “NOT ELIGIBLE FOR MOBILE DEPOSIT”. That is pretty restrictive for a teen who banks entirely online. Additionally, in our rural area, my two banks do not have a branch to deposit the check, after son signs it over to me. I had reviewed the terms of service and did not locate a notice or agreement that classified refund checks as not eligible for mobile deposit.
To get his earned wages, we now either have to open a new account with a local bank & wait the 1-2 week non-withdrawal new account period (and then withdraw and close the local account) or I can drive an hour to go to either of my banks’ closest branch to deposit the check and then transfer the money back to my son.
It is rather ridiculous for the hassle to close an account and get access to your money, especially with physical bank branches disappearing in rural areas due to the plethora of online banking options. Additionally, there was no option to electronically transfer the Netspend account funds to his new Capital One account.
Desired outcome: Please explain why account closure checks are not eligible for mobile deposit. Update your terms of service to accurately inform your customers that account closure checks cannot be deposited mobile.
Thank you for the stock response. On par with corporate centric viewpoint, without addressing unique customer experiences. How would social@Netspend assist my son with a check he cannot deposit with his bank due to Netspend’s restrictive method for people collecting their money. Don’t need to answer, it is rhetorical.
Could have at least been more creative, such as risk of mail theft, customer fraud, etc. But both online and physical banks send checks via mail without the mobile deposit restriction. Unfortunately, I think Netspend likes to limit customer options in hopes that the custome will forget or be unable to cash check within 90 days. End result: Netspend gets to keep unclaimed refunds, which helps their bottom line (corporate centric).

Unauthorized transaction
Claim# [protected] this is my dad's account. He is currently in a nursing home and when he got paid his social security check this month $1000 was missing. Someone in California was able to take money out of his account. He is in a nursing home in Portland Oregon. This is obvious fraud, and he is still waiting for his money to be put back into his account after all this time. It's not like he is on the internet using his card or anything. How these fraudsters got ahold of his information all the way in california is suspicious. Personally, I think that there may be a data breach at net spend. Anyhow you haven't even offered him preliminary credit when you know it is obviously not him and it's fraudulent. He needs his money. He has gone without money this entire month due to this fraud and usually banks offer up preliminary credit. You haven't even done that. What do you expect people to do without their money? You're responsible for keeping it safe.

Rapid refund on DeepBlue card a fraud
In January I went to liberty tax to get my income tax done. I paid to get rapid refund and by 24hrs I had got approved for $1300. By the time I went to the store it declined me to purchase anything. When I called customer service they told me that they had a block on my card and I was not able to use them. They would send me a check for the $1300 and it would take up to 14 days to receive in mail. We are now in the month of May and I still have not received that check calling every week with the same story the check must have got lost. No check still
Desired outcome: I want my rapid refund of 1300 and the 49.00 I paid to get approved for it 5 months later and feel netspend is a fraud and thief’s. No one in their customer service knows what they are doing.

Money stolen / poor customer service/ treated horribly
Around May I called to just the balance of my card and was told the card is an invalid card. I used my card a few times so I knew it was about 2,300 left on there. A matter of fact, I purchased some shoes with my card and three days later I received that disturbing message stating this card is invalid.
Immediately after hearing that message I call Netspend Deep Blue customer service number on back of card. I was treated so inhumane that it was sicking. I could barely understand what the customer service agents was saying. They asked my the same questions over and over, hung up in my face because the they couldn’t answer my questions correctly. In my opinion the prompter didn’t have the answers for the to clearly read in order to give me the run around. I was told after calling back 4-5X that my card have a hold on it and I need to verify myself. After being told to hold on so I can be transferred to fraud dept the agent actually hung phone up and I was force to go through the whole process over. I finally connected with the fraud team and emailed every piece of information over and my first two documents were quickly approved however my Summit credit union statement was declined with a message saying not the correct address they have on file. This was very confusing because that was my correct address and I had to give this address several times every time I had to call about card the with first group of agents. After sending over documents that were requested from me continue to deflect and decline the documents. So, after sending over documents that’s I know was not safe to email I was told they closed my account. So I called customer service again to question whats going on with my account only to be told that they closed my account and was sending $16 back in the mail. I said hold on wait a sec I had over 2,000 on card. Agent looked into the account and stated someone took 2300.00 off my account in one transaction?!? She said they will open a fraud case and just sit and shut up and wait. I don’t have access to my funds I haven’t heard anything back yet. Oh yeah not to mention customer service stated I can go online and request to have access to my funds. I had to remind them that once your card is invalid or closed you have no access to utilize there services! I had to push another card number (that only had 12.00 on it) to get someone on phone to speak with customer service. It’s so much wrong doing from these people that it’s sicking! I still haven’t heard anything back.

I was force to get card from Liberty Tax Services for my deposit. I set up text alerts to notify me when deposit hits my account. I never received a text for that particular card. I used this card like 3-4 times, one time I took money off card at ATM, the other transactions were online. My last transaction was a couple of days before my $2300 disappeared off my card.
Fast forward….. I tried to pay my rent off card and it declined. So I call number on back of card only to be told my card was an invalid card and I must have an valid card to speak with customer service(by the way was horrible) So I found an card that I had $12.47 left on was able to speak with phony customer service rep. After being hung on, transferred to same number OVER AND OVER AND OVER, a rep ask me secret questions so they can have access to my account. So finally I was told account was froze and I need to speak with fraud department. After speaking to fraud I was told to email my SSI Card, Bank statements, and a bill for proof of address to documents department. I sent immediately to email that was provided and I received email back stating first two documents accepted by not my Summit credit union back statement. Fraud department claim that I didn’t have correct address that they have on file. Which that was a huge lie because the statement had the exact address that I said to first representative that asked me the secret questions to gain access to my account. I marked my account number out on my bank statement and everything thing else they were able to see. So, after the decline bank statement I called number on back of card again and the customer service representative stated for me to send copy of marriage certificate to show why my last name had changed. I sent over my gas bill and marriage certificate to show my last name and why it had changed. That was immediately denied because they couldn’t read marriage certificate So after that denial I sent over a clearer picture of certificate and was denied and the reason they said wasn’t a document that they accepted! Wow so I sent another copy of my Summit bank statement and explained that this is the bank statement with correct address. After waiting for an response that never happened till after I called customer care an explain that my address is coming up wrong but correct when I speak with customer care, I immediately received a email that stated they were closing my account! I couldn’t believe what I was reading and how I was so helpless in this moment I called customer support back and they immediately all of a sudden see my account was close and the customer service representative said we will send you a $16.00 check in the mail. So I said hold on there was $2,300 on that card? So she so oh are you saying someone stole it I said YES, because I know for a fact there was $2300 on my card! The customer service said that someone took all my money in one transaction except for the $16.27 So I had to open a fraud case and I have no access to my funds as I wait. The customer service representative said if I go online and open up a fraud case then I can request to use my funds but I can’t request my funds with her on phone. She became upset and said to her you know that it’s impossible to call you guys or go online with an invalid card because the numbers are invalid, I know because I tried. The customer service representative then said Oh well there’s nothing I can do on my end. I was told to wait for an email it it could take 60 days before I receive anything. I haven’t heard for nobody or received not 1 red cent?!?
Customer service are horrible they have no clue what they are doing and when I asked for they corporate number to report them. They had no clue. Not able to understand them I am not sure they are located in the US.
They are crooks I’m still waiting on my rapid refund that they stole from me in Jan.

My name is Joshua Thomas im filing this complaint about that the customer service didn't tell me to write a letter to dispute the claim on 4/21/23 about MICROSOFT*MICROSOFT 365 F MSBILL.INFO for $107.00 they did block the card they did send me a new card the card pin wasn't working I tried keep on changing the pin it keep sending the last 4 digits numbers off the card my mom already said she wasn't going to used the card cause she is dealing with con artist and scammers and im dealing with them to a friend of mine over and help me look for a netspend card that isn't outdated, he I activated the card and I ask the customer service to close out the one they mail to me they didn't say anything about no letter to dispute about the investigation is going on.

I received my income taxes they were deposited into the Netspend account I wasn’t made aware of the transaction by the time I realized it I went to use the card I put $50 on Lyft and they said my account was overdrawn there’s almost $2000 that’s missing then a few days later my taxes from the state got put in and they took 100 and some dollars in overdraft fees to satisfy them selves before they release the rest of my money to me to than you arm I’ve called numerous times they keep saying that that that that escalated my case they’re telling me that they did just lies and lies and lies I just want my money they owe me over $2000

Funding an account
FYI: They don't allow you to fund your own acct., e.g., i.e., transfer your own funds from one legitimate acct to your netspend acct. Can't be done, no how, not ANY way, (except driving to some sketchy quick mart + $4) ostensibly based on some terrorism protection.
They did allow $.01 but did NOT allow $95. Verified on both ends, wait 2 days, wait 10 days, pay the fee, don't pay the fee, doesn't matter. I would do this for MY security in case someone tried to drain the card. Which happens all the time. They say it MUST be in your name. . .when it IS in you own name, it is refused because. . . "you can't transfer money to yourself." DUH!
One ridiculous way was that anyone that would transfer money to you would have to provide all their personal info. WHAT? These rules are patently absurd. For the average individual, what/who are they protecting? I wish i'd have known this. "Suggestions" of these problems in the fine print, but entirely vague. Something rotten in Denmark (US).

I put 4000.00 dollars on a new card... But someone got a hold of an old netspend card of mine and drained my account, how is that possible... It was a new card with a new card number new pin number address everything new... I was never told by netspend if you put money on a new card it goes to the old card also... Card payment not working
I’ve had this card for like a month now but since I’m very indecisive I hate to spend my money, so I was just like i don’t care I’m just gonna spend All my money on the arc since I had it for long . Then I was just trying to buy stuff but since I had another prepayed card that had a payment already on it I couldn’t delete the card , So I just went to my settings on my iPad and tried to add it but I couldn’t it didn’t let me it said “ Cannot verify payment information “ so I searched it on Google and it said my account might be locked or someone from the netspend workers did something it doesn’t let me acces my netspend account no more to check how much money I have incase I have no money so I can buy a new card but since I had my password I added it correctly and it did not match . I had been staying in a hotel due to being a victim of gun violence. After becoming aware of bogus charges ECT on my hotel folio and having an exchange with the owner I relocated to a different hotel on March 14/2023. On or around March 23 when filing charges against the hotel I noticed my card had been charged 300.00 by the hotel AFTER I nolonger was staying there. The officer witnessed the exchange of words between the hotel owner and I . I was told to dispute the charge . I disputed that 300.00 sent in all the necessary documents showing I had vacated that hotel when the charge was made. Nothing from NetSpend. If I the customer am telling NetSpend that I didn't agree or know of that 300$ charge and NetSpend then blocks my card only to charge me for a new card . I am not understanding why my money hasn't been credited back to my account. I'm a single mother in a hotel room . 300.00 is a lot of money. I have been a card holder since 2015 and I'm getting to the point of where I think I'm done with NetSpend. Customer service is disrespectful and gives wrong information and simply don't care . I literally had to file charges on that hotel for a separate reason. NetSpend gives a customer no actual number to call regarding disputes except the main customer service line and they are worthless. A provisional credit for MY MONEY shouldn't even be a question. Im at the point of filing a complaint with the FTC. They cancelled my card and I want my money back .

I received a net spend card in the mail that I never applied for, the address on the paper work is obviously no mine I called them 35 times and they said I only called them once. They make it look like a manger calls me, but the phone number they leave me is out of service! These people are scum, they are criminals. I did not fill out any application for their services and they are harassing me by sending another card to my true address, they are scum and the owner of this company should do something about this. I did not fill out an application for this card and after all I have been thru including blocking my credit they still sent me a card in the mail to my current address and I never gave it to them. This company should be closed down after what they are doing to their customers! I do not understand why they are still in business, and my lawyer is calling the bank they do business with and letting them know what they are doing and the tactics they are using to harass people! I even sent them a copy of the police report! I sent it to their corporate office and they said they never received it. They are liars and should be put out of business immediately. I have the fedex customer service rep to let them know that he tried to fax the police report and the number was incorrect. Lease do something!

This is Robert Bickford I'm letting you guys know that I am no longer using you for my paychecks to get deposited and I have called your worthless customer service number and on 3/23 at 3:35pm I emailed a copy of my driver's license and birth certificate because I didn't have a social security card and yesterday I emailed you guys about this issue from [protected]@gmail.com which is my other email and the one that I have the skylight NetSpend card setup with is [protected]@mail.com and yesterday I was told it would take six business hours and I received the email yesterday around 6am at my Gmail address and since I can't get your customer service to do a better job I am no longer going to have my checks deposited to you guys and I have already let my employer know that I am going to be using a different card carrier for having my work paychecks deposited. My account was closed in 2021. The account still had $91.00 in it but i asked if the check they were sending, instead of putting it into one of my other active NetSpend accounts, could be expedited. I just came across the check that they sent out for $76 I'm assuming it was because they took 25 for the expedition. I'm trying to get money from the check because it is no longer valid moved to my open accounts any of them. They keep asking me for the closed account information I close the account where's why would I keep the information. I really need the funds from this check and they are just making me out to be a criminal trying to steal the funds from an already cash check is how they come across to me. I'll close all my accounts and never deal with this business again I just need my funds and nobody is willing to help me I don't understand if the funds are on the check why do they need the stupid account number? This is the fifth time I've called in total regarding this issue. I don't understand why they can't just at best reissue another check.
Desired outcome: My desired outcome would be to receive my funds today. As they are the ones who have them not me. Please forgive the appearance of the check as it was hidden in my son's toy chest.
Provisional credit
My card was stolen so I disputed two transactions. NetSpend sent my an email acknowledging they did receive my complain and I would received provisional credit if they did not finish their investigation within ten business days. NetSpend is giving me a runaround saying I did not dispute the charges and that I did not request provisional credit. This company is a fraud! I have proof I sent in my letter and I have proof they replied to my request saying they would issue my provisional credit!
Desired outcome: I want my provisional credit applied to my account as promised of $321.77.

I used a Netspend card a while ago and my experience was not bad but the second time I used a Netspend card was horrible I bought the card off walmart and added 250 dollars to the card then I went to the netspend website to activate it asked for a social security number and made me take a picture of it and I think the site was laggy because it did not let me take a picture of my social security number so I exit out and come back to the site then I put my card number in and it told me that something went wrong and to contact netspend to activate my card so I called netspend and they did absolutely NOTHING! after I gave them my social security number the said they would confirm my social security number and they hang up on me a day passes by and I thought my card was activated so I went to buy something online and it said that the card was declined I later called netspend to ask if my card was activated and they said it was not activated so they asked for my information and I gave it back to them and they said my card was partially activated and for me to send an email of my house bill and a picture of my social security number to fully activate it I went to their email and sent them pictures of my social security number id they later sent me a email saying that they could not activate the card on email and for me to contact netspend to activate it I called netspend to tell them about the situation but they did the same thing as the first call I did they hang up on me after I gave the my social security number I AM PISSED and will NOT use netspend ever again after my experience.
