Thanks for teaching my 4 yr old segregation by the black sunshine commercial I see what you're trying to do by it and there is a good message in it. But it teaches kids to look at a persons skin color and it glorifies 1 race and 1 skin color and excludes dozens of others. My white child didn't notice or care about skin color or hair but you've now taught him to notice this. You've taught him that races are different and should be treated differently. Wouldn't it have been better to show a commercial with all skin and hair types and glorify them all the same. All kids are different and look different but should be celebrated equally and the same. Please take this commercial off the air. Please stop teaching segregation. Make a commercial teaching all kids that they are beautiful and that they shine brightly and that all of them can be successful. There are many kids of all races that need to hear that for many reason. By airing this commercial you're doing an injustice to EVERY child watching. Sad! Very sad!

I agree, I was just shocked to see this commercial. It's racist. God forbid it said shine my white sunshine! I agree it should have been all races shine my sunshine! Not a specific color!

Do you despise the commercials and movies and shows with all white peoples? Because majority of commercials and shows are all white. I’m sure you didn’t complain about those though

The difference between this commercial and commercials with all white people, is the ones with all white people don’t say “shine my white sunshine, shine.” I see plenty of commercials that have all black people as well, and they don’t bother me. When it gets to the point of a whole commercial being specifically about race (doesn’t matter what race), it shouldn’t be playing over and over again on a kids’ tv channel. If you saw a commercial that showed only white kids that said “shine my white sunshine, shine, ” or a commercial that showed only Mexican kids that said “shine my Mexican sunshine, shine, ” you would say it’s racist because it’s glorifying one particular race instead of all races. Nobody’s race is more superior than another, therefore no race deserves an entire commercial dedicated to literally just talking about their race. Do you want equality, or do you still want segregation between races? Make it make sense.

No bc all shows and commercials are interracial and that should offend African Americans bc the companies who create it don't think that African Americans can be with their own race on TV and have to constantly place y'all with another race. That should offend you bc those companies that you believe are supporting your cause cannot even have you in fake relationships without a white or chinese, even whole families. This should be what your standing against, I rarely see a black woman on tv with another black male, no either by yourself or with a white woman. That should tell you who's really racist and what they really think of you, as Caucasian people we would never want a commercial like this bc it's almost embarrassing. We wouldn't want a company promoting our race bc it just doesn't feel okay bc it's racism. In purest form. So as African Americans you allow this which means you allow racism but claim to be against it but I guess only against your race as your race is the only one who oppressed right!

The African American race has been oppressed since we got here and y’all are mad because we have a commercial trying to encourage and uplift us after every thing we’ve been through? Your children need to learn how to uplift black people and not complain when we have to do it ourselves. Maybe if this country actually cares about us we wouldn’t need a commercial.

African American people constantly walk around with a chip on their shoulder, holding out their hand expecting a hand-me-out. Lol.. and when they don't get it they automatically call, "RACISM!" But hold up!, their immaturity and ability to not NEVER JUST SHUT THE F#$* UP, leads them to carry on and on about this and that and blah blah blah lol! FOR ALL OF TIME. Wasn't no one mad about NOTHING at first (of course, except for african americans). Your race focuses on ONE thing and one thing only and carry on and on about it expecting white people to apologize and bow down to yall and be stoned to death. It's your race that has made non racist people become racist. I don't expect yall to expand yalls thinking capabilities enough to ever begin to think about that because again, there's only one thing on a black person's mind. Almost as if there is no other way yall could be remembered or thought about it. I have 3 beautiful WHITE AND PROUD little SUNSHINES who will NEVER be taught to uplift and encourage no little black kids whatsoever lol point blank period. And it's not just my white kids. Blacks have too much wishful thinking. It will never happen. That's just the way it is, the way its always been and the way it will ever be... and that's something that ALL races already know. 💯

honestly she makes me feel insulted to be lumped with her [being white]. i see nothing wrong with this commercial, it is in the title and segment name being geared to showing talent in a different community and giving them credit for their work. to me it is long over due that we remove racism from our vocabulary. we all live on the same world. we should be uplifting those who are not as fortunate as others out of the ideology they been subjected to.

this whole complaint should be closed by complaints board because it feels more like hate than a actual complaint. Ok so you don't like the commercial, that's ok but look at the whole picture, is it part of a series or event? is it uplifting someone who is not always recognized?

Me i am getting tired of seeing this complaint in my notifications with others saying OP is right and promoting racism on a commercial that clearly states it is part of a minority uplifting type program. Now that i think of it i recall seeing this commercial with white kids too. it was just called sunshine.

You must be thinking of a different commercial. The one OP is talking about is clearly just about BLACK sunshine and only black people are shown. I feel bad for all the other races that have been disregarded since the BLM movement started. My son is physically disabled and I’d personally love to see more children in wheelchairs on TV. I love the message of encouragement in the commercial mentioned but it should be for ALL races and physical differences—not just a single race. This only teaches our children to further segregate a nation that is already so sadly divided.

just watched this said commercial...its a poem called black sunshine... the series of commercials is geared to raising awareness to the recent events of mistreatment of citizens. its not specifically highlighting as OP posted "teaching my 'white' child... Please stop teaching segregation." your post points out that your white and offended. the commercial is pointing out that it exists and we need to work to remove it from our society not ignore it exists.

Is this commercial real? When race is constantly brought up then who are the racists? The group that cries racist this racist that are probably the racist! Just live your life and respect people that give you respect color blind ! my kids or me are not going to apologize for something that happened way before my family was even in this country!

it exists but its not a single commercial. the specific one is to celebrate a kid who happens to be black [they mention yes that the kid is not white]. then this lady comes and whines that its wrong. OK so is it bad for companies now to highlight extraordinary people...i don't think so. it means we are saying "we see you and we will promote your accomplishment despite how you look."

I’ve been calling my kids white sunshine and telling them all the great things about white people most importantly not to be weak and just roll over for this nonsense. I swear white people are the only race that won’t stick together and put their own race down to others.

This commercial glorifies one race over the rest which is by definition, racist.

Absolutely agreed. My children never thought or cared to look or think about another skin color differently. But now I have to explain to them a very simple question they had that I couldn't even come up with a response for. "Why isn't there a white sunshine commercial?" You subjected us all to this racially narrative advertising and now my child has a different perception because of it. Why can't it be about all colors and styles of hair, eyes etc.. I just don't expect this from a children's network

I was shocked to see this commercial on Nickelodeon. I don't want my child to be taught about "skin color" and "black sunshine" by this racist commercial. My kids don't notice skin color and are raised to be color-blind when it comes to racism, they will treat ALL humans with respect. Nickelodeon should be ashamed of themselves

I agree! This is a very racist commercial! How’s the rest of the world supposed to react to this? I could just imagine if any other nationality would do this. How about that white sunshine or oriental sunshine . ? That’s just weird. I ve seriously considered canceling this service. What is this trying to teach anyone? Oh yeah only Black Lives Matter now…..

I just saw this commercial this morning when my 4 year old child was eating breakfast. I was appalled. Is there a number or somewhere I can report or send in a letter?

This honestly hurt my heart. I turned it off and said "we cannot watch this" and her young mind cannot understand and thought "why? they are talking about sunshine" but the hidden messaging and segregation is awful. ALL skin colors and ALL children deserve EQUAL treatment. This commercial says "black sunshine" it excludes any other race or skin type and only shows black people. It is racist and to target our young children is sneaky and is extreme and they are trying to brainwash and condition our children by sneaking this in children channels like this one. Where is this commercial on regular TV? This is not a coincidence. This commercial was STRATEGICALLY PLACED in front of our children in our homes. It needs to be removed. This is teaching hate and causing insecurities in all children that are not black. It is morally and ethically wrong. What a disgrace.

This black sunshine commercial is so racist and ridiculous! Its actually teaching my kids to see black people differently. A commercial like this will create division and resentment when you try to glorify one race over another. Do you think Im going to just sit there and let my kids believe that they are somehow less than a black kid? Heck no! But thanks Nickelodeon for making me have to say these things to my four and six year old who never even though about this stuff before! Seriously HOW DARE YOU put something like this out there and its been up for YEARS! I boycotted Nick Jr over this for a year or two and cam back today and suere enought this stupid commercial is still going...thank God for YouTube. Nick Jr isn't the only game in town and I hope everyone stops watching thier channel.
