Free Trail - instantly charged without knowledge or consent
The developer took FIVE MONTHS to respond and refused to refund.
They told me Apple would refund. Apple only refunded 60 days charges. The many months of charges before that were just stolen from me by dishonest scammers at Plantin.

Dear Brian,
Thank you for being patient with us!
First and foremost, we're deeply sorry for our late reply!
We understand that there was an accidental charge made. We would like to emphasize that we do not charge without your consent! To Subscribe, you would need to go through the Apple confirmation.
Regrettably, we lack the technical means to initiate the refund on our end. Nevertheless, you can contact Apple on this matter.
You can learn more about refunds here.

Be assured you have committed a crime. I did not give my consent and I did not provide you payment details. Your app simply stole from my appleid
I will be reporting you to ACCC
Recommendation: Avoid this app and the thieves who offer free trials. they will steal your money. Check the trust pilot reviews - not a single review there that does not complain about their money being stolen by Plantin. See for yourself here: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/plantin.be
Shady Business practice
I signed up for the free trial and they use your credit card, per usual. After the first week, it charged me the weekly subscription total if $7.43 with tax. That is my fault for not upgrading or canceling. I decided to buy the lifetime subscription for $60.54. That should end your weekly subs up, right? Wrong. I got charged 2 more weeks of the weekly subscription at $7.43 while I already have the lifetime subscription. I reached out to Plantin today and they responded right away, go their credit; however they claim that they cannot refund me for the two weeks I was overcharged. They “helped” me cancel the recurring weekly charge. Once I cancel, they offer a lifetime subscription for $19.99! Meanwhile, I have now paid $82.83 for an app I could have gotten for $19.99 before tax. This is a shady business practice and I’m sure I can’t be the only one this has happened too. You’re telling me app developers can’t write code that stops charging you weekly after you buy a lifetime subscription? Sounds like they just don’t want to and want the extra money from situations like this. I would give a 0 star if I could.
It would be 5 stars if it worked like the ad shows
I do love this app.. but I paid for the premium version and almost immediately got it refunded because it didn’t work how the ad showed.
In the ad it showed you could scan the plant and it would tell you if it needs more water or not. After getting the app and looking through it I thought maybe I needed the premium for it to do that. I got the premium and was sad to find that the premium only added the ability to scan the plant to identify any diseases or sickness it may have. But there was no way to scan to see if it’s over watered or under watered like the as showed.
I still use the app cause it does help me keep track of when I should water each plant and scan to find what type of plant it is and learn a bit more about it. I am just very disappointed because I was excited and mainly downloaded the app for the ability to scan to see if I’m over watering or under watering my succulents. I hope the app will soon be updated to have this ability like how the ad shows. If that change is made I’ll bring it up to 4 stars! If you don’t have to pay for it since it doesn’t mention that part in the ad then I’ll give 5 stars!
Updated, do NOT recommend, waste of money
The app is helpful. The watering schedule has improved the health of my plants and the ID feature works well. The sickness diagnosis does not work very well and the notifications only show up about 30% of the time. The notifications were the biggest selling point for me and now it’s hardly worth it. A notification app where the notifications don’t work isn’t worth $50 to me.
Update after about a year: notifications never work. I’ve reinstalled, checked settings, there appears to no explanation for why I never get notifications for when to water/fertilize. This morning I tried to identify something growing near the base of my ivy and as usual, the automatic identifier didn’t come up with anything. I started a message to the botanist for help and every time I hit send got an “unknown error.” This happened about 6 times, restarted the app, same error persisted. Eventually, after hitting send, I was directed to the page asking me to pay $20 for help service. Apparently my $50 premium lifetime membership doesn’t include help? This overpriced, broken app keeps asking for more money for what? Additional broken services? Reduced rating to one star.
Money SCAM
Heads up, the automated disease diagnosing part of the app is not very accurate. I paid for the premium app, $49.90 or so, excited to start keeping track of and caring for my modest plant collection of 50 some plants. I purchased it with spring care in mind, hoping this would be useful. So, on the first day of spring I get a notification that the spring care theme with spring care actions are available, I think oh great, I shall install it, just after paying almost fifty bucks, they ask me for $19.90 more, and I’m like well crudd this is why I bought the premium app originally. Anyhow so I paid it. Now to start getting help with some of my problem plants, well turns out the auto diagnoser is like a joke, and also, when I went ahead and used the ”ask a botanist” option I was asked for another $19.90. I mean why did I pay for a premium app if I have to keep paying really large amounts of money for app functions that would seem to be part of a premium app. And they are sneaky, they don’t mentione that when you ”pay for expert advise” as an option this is just for the ONE question, in fact every time you wanna ask a botanist for help you now have to pay $19.90. This is just a SCAM.
Great Plant assistant
I’m fairly new to plants, and the intricacies of owning caring and growing them. In my plant journey, I have adapted the theory of use all tools necessary to grow your skill or hobby. In this process, I have tried multiple, I would go as far as saying, countless apps, to aid me in becoming a better plan parent. after trying multiple premium apps I can confidently say this one is the best. Upon opening the app the aesthetics are very attractive, upon opening the app for the first time I was very pleased at how easy it is to use. One of my plan babies. I’ve had a difficult time keeping alive, not knowing if it’s being properly watered, getting enough sunlight, or near and in air-conditioning. This app help me immediately identify that my current watering schedule, for my Monstera was not conducive to keeping it healthy, while also informing me of common diseases that affect this particular. The light meter, which was the focal point of me download this app has been a plant saver. I believe this app has already helped me save several plans and will continue to help me be a great plant father. I recommend this app to the Novice and expert plant grower alike, look no further download this app.
Can’t identify any of my plants
I don’t write app reviews often, actually ever. However, I was really excited to get this app and I got a targeted ad on Instagram for $20 so I thought “yes I’ll try it!”
(BTW I’m 40-something, pretty app-savvy. My husband is a tech guy and we’ve been apple iPhone users since the very beginning.)
Since purchasing it has not identified a single plant of mine correctly, I know this only because I still have my plants in the Lowe’s labeled containers I purchased them in. The app continues to tell me to “move phone closer” or “ it looks like a plant” but never actually identifies it. Sometimes it will identify a plant but by the incorrectly. I’ve tried it on 4 different plants so far.
I purchased to help a dying succulent. The app thinks it’s Spanish moss lol, which it isn’t. So not knowing what it is the app can not tell me why it’s dying, soil, light, water, fungus…
I am REALLY glad I only paid $20 and not the full $100 or whatever the full price was. I’m hopeful future updates will correct and improve the functionality of the app.
I think it’s a great idea if it worked but so far google has been 100% better. Giving a 2-star because I do like that I can type in my plant’s species and save it to read the info at a glance.
Worst app and customer service
I’m no pro gardener but certainly not a novice either. I downloaded the app because my pothos took a turn for the worse and I couldn’t figure out it’s problem with online research. I took several clear photos of a few of my plants and the app was incorrectly identifying them. It also told me brown crunchy leaves were healthy so I opted to cancel my trial right away. Now, 7 weeks later I realize they’ve been charging me on PayPal each week. I contact customer service and they say I don’t have an account with the email provided. I share screenshots showing my ID in the app as well as PayPal receipts. They were emphatic they see detailed receipts. I shared those from my Apple account after figuring out how to pull them. I tell the rep multiple times that the app won’t allow me to click on the subscription to modify it - it just says active. However , the app will allow me to upgrade to lifetime if I want - how convenient. Ultimately I’m told NO REFUNdS and I consented when I started my trial - even though I canceled the trial and immediately got rid of the trash app. No assistance to help me cancel the subscription nor any refund for the money stolen from me. I ultimately had to go to Apple directly to get this thing canceled and filed a compliant. Terrible app and terrible customer service.
Scammy, shady and terrible - not accurate at all either
Please read : DO NOT GET THIS APP!
I don’t usually write reviews but this app was so shady and terrible I just had to warn others.
I tried the app out for the 3 day free trial after seeing one of their ads. The app got almost every single plant and grass identification wrong, even the super easy ones. I’ve had other apps do a much better job. So in regards to this I decided that I’m definitely not going to be purchasing the full app.
Then I go to see the pricing so that I can cancel and I’m quite amazed that such a terribly in accurate and terrible app was charging so much money. $6.99 per week LOL.
So I canceled this immediately on my second day of having the app. I thought the app subscription was canceled as it said no longer a premium user.
The super shady part: the area under subscription, to show cancel, or other options disappeared. I no longer had access to show my subscription. I thought ok this is sketchy but surely it’s canceled as that is what I clicked on.
Nope 1 day later I’m charged $6.99, low and behold I’m charged a 4th time today for $6.99 after trying several times to cancel this incredibly terrible and shady app. How it has so many 5 start reviews is beyond me and surely that is a scam also.
I will be contacting apple today to get this straightened out. DO NOT GET THIS APP!
Be aware of in-app purchases!
I am told after the fact that in-app purchases are processed separately, and they do not issue refunds for erroneously made purchases! Unfortunately, I can’t say that I have had much opportunity to make use of the app yet, but so far it seems adequate. I do, however, take issue with the response I received when I asked for a refund of a extraneous billing. I signed up early Jan for the free 3 day trial. Before I was charged anything, I upgraded to a lifetime subscription and was promptly charged. A couple days ago, I received a receipt for two separate charges in addition, which reflected two separate weeks of subscription on top of the lifetime subscription. I immediately sent a message inquiring about the charge to which I received this response: “The lifetime account is a one-time in-app purchase so it won’t be listed in the subscriptions list while the subscription is a recurring payment so they are processed separately. …Please be advised that according to our Subscription Policy, all purchases are non-refundable. Please be advised that agreed to the terms when you paid for the subscription. We are sorry if this brings you any inconvenience and would like for you to consider making use of the situation by trying out our service.” I received a similar response when I attempted to clarify the error. BE AWARE!
Save your money. Google lens is more efficient
I tried to identify several of my plants with this app, only to get the response “try a different angle” or “move closer.” Tried multiple angles and basically crawled inside the plant to take the picture - still couldn’t get proper identification of my plants. I don’t have crazy exotic plants that would be exceptionally difficult to identify, yet this app failed at every attempt to identify a plant by taking a photo.
I attempted to send feedback through the app twice. That was ignored. I saw the support email address on one of the reviews here so I forwarded my initial emails to that address. What I received was a canned response from someone who obviously did not read my emails because their answer to my predicament was to use the “take photo” feature. IF my emails had been read, they would have seen that’s how I was attempting to identify the plants in the first place.
I had a family situation to deal with so checking emails from a worthless app was not top priority. I received an email from Plantin 4 days after they finally responded to my emails that “since they hadn’t heard from me in awhile, the ticket was going to be closed.” Conclusion: customer service is just as unhelpful as the app.
***If you simply use Google lens, take a photo of your plant and in the text line, write “care and watering” or something similar, you will get much better information than this app provides.
Buyer beware. Free trial is not free
I have recently gotten into plants. I have a few in my collection that were nondescript when I purchased them. I would like to identify them.
I decided to give PlantIn a try and see how I liked it. They offer a free 3 day trial so I thought that would be perfect.
When I “purchased” the 3 day free trial, I somehow ended up with the lifetime subscription. I tried to use the app and it did not identify any of my known plants correctly. It identified one of my philos as a shrub. I was unimpressed, and decided to cancel my free trial. When I went to cancel the subscription it was not there to cancel. I tried to go through Apple but it said it was not eligible. When I realized what happened I immediately contacted the company and explained that I somehow ended up with a lifetime subscription when that was not what I was intending. Why would I spend so much money on an app I have never used?!
The company is refusing to refund my money and just keep insisting that I need better lighting.
The pictures I took were by a big window with plenty of light coming in. I have gone back and forth with them several times with them continuing to push their product with no real solution.
The total amount of time between “purchase” and me contacting the company was maybe 20-30 minutes.
I’m not sure what happened and how I ended up with a lifetime subscription off of a 3 day free trial, but their refusal to offer a real solution is poor customer service. This is bad business.
Misleading ads - nothing like it portrays
The ad shows you take a picture of your plant then it instantly says what the exact problem is and what to do. Reality is, you take picture and it recommends all the possible potential issues and what you can do for all of them. It gives no specific guidance, so you might as well just look up online. I took pictures of a healthy plant and a sick plant, it gave the exact same recommendations. Basically, what it said for both was, it could be under watered, it could be over watered, it could have soil deficiency (lists out 8 different types of potential deficiencies), it could need different potting, it never says what it actually is. This is nothing like the ad that shows exactly what to do. On top of all that, to actually get a real answer it wants to connect you to a botanist for an absurd fee that they try and rationalize(price anchor) with an even more ludicrous fee. My local nurseries and plant shops answer all of that for free. If they made it a nominal fee, that's one thing, I might pay for convenience, reality is, I bought the app because I thought that's what it did, avoid the need to talk to a botanist, it is your digital expert, but no, all they do is try and upcharge you. Want to change the color of your app? Watch out, that's more money. Want an actual direct piece of guidance, watch out, that's more money. Complete hack. I had such high hopes for this.
I should have read the reviews as now i see this is a super common experience others are having.
Don’t waste your money
I purchased the app in hopes of identifying two different plants that were dying. A pepper plant in my garden and a white pine tree that I’ve had for eighteen years. I already knew the kind of plants they are, but when I took a picture of them, the only information I could get was the kind of plant they are. That’s no help. So I decided to pay an extra $30 to get more information on what might be causing them to die. What I got back was a canned response that I could have easily found on the internet. IT WAS BLATANTLY OBVIOUS THAT NO ONE EVER LOOKED AT THE PICTURES, JUST EMAIL BACK A FORMED LETTER ABOUT THE PLANT. I PAID $30 FOR SOMEONE TO TELL ME WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG WITH THE PLANT, AND NO ONE LOOKED AT THE PICTURES!
I only did this with the pepper plant, but getting the results that I did, I certainly wasn’t going to throw ANOTHER $30 away a get worthless information about a white pine.
I just received from PlantIn recently that it is time to fertilize my pepper plant. We’ll I live in Colorado, the plant has been dead for almost three months, and we have already had a hard freeze. How am I supposed to fertilize a dead plant. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT REMINDER IN A FEW MONTHS.
If you need someone to remind you to water and feed your plants, then maybe this app might be for you. But I can easily come up with much easier ways to do that for free, not the $20 the app charges. I highly recommend that you don’t waste your money on this app, IT’S NOT WHAT THEY ADVERTISE!
Research before purchasing
I was super excited about this app, until...
1. I saw that it costs nearly $45/mo. I did not want to select the $150-$199+ lifetime plan until I could try it out for a few days first.
2. The first sick plant that I entered gave me seven automated “possible” diseases. None of which that were remotely close to what’s wrong with the plant (according to their pics & descriptions).
3. My next option was to message a real person to discuss my plant. So I selected that option & entered all of the information requested, along with additional photos & then I hit “Send”. But then another screen popped up stating that I needed to pay an additional $39 fee for a lifetime plan to speak to a non-automated personal via messaging.
4. So then I decided to scan the same plant a second time & then a third time... and both times I got an automated pop up that my plant/tree could not be found. It’s just a small lemon tree!
So...free trial cancelled immediately & so disappointed!
Oh, but wait, there’s more!
My next pop up message was... “We are sorry to see you go! Open your surprise!” So, I opened my “surprise” & another pop up message appeared... “Stay & we will reward you with a lifetime membership for only $19.99!”
Google images & assistance at any home & garden store and/or nursery... are free & so much more helpful than this app, in my personal opinion. One star for having such a great idea for a very useful app. But “free trial” means just that; and for that kind of money... this app needs some major improvements and/or a bigger/better database. Because for me, it certainly did not work as well as the advertisement shows.
Great concept, but a bit disappointing
Lacks detail: I love the concept of this app but am frustrated with the lack of detail and accuracy in a paid app. I find myself constantly having to Google care for the plant because there’s not enough detail in the app, which kind of defeats the purpose.
Misleading: I thought I had purchased a premium subscription, but it still tried to charge me additional for other features, such as “Ask the Botanist”. It also advertises diagnosing common problems with photos like overwatering, but that feature doesn’t actually appear to be offered at all. It only diagnoses diseases and appears very inaccurate.
Water schedule: I’ve also found that the default watering schedule tends to lead to overwatering. If the watering tips were always detailed and accurate, this wouldn’t be such a big deal since you can manually change the schedule. However, for many plants, it’s not detailed at all. Would be helpful to include tips like “let top 1 inch of soil dry out before watering, usually once per week during growing season and every 2 weeks in off-season” or something very specific like that. Then you could adjust schedule based on your observations. Would also appreciate more details for potting soil and fertilizer. Some plants are detailed, others aren’t at all and some are downright inaccurate. For example, the app recommended fertilizing an air plant by “applying fertilizer to the soil”.
I think this has potential to be a great app if they invested more time and money in having professionals update ALL plants with very detailed, specific descriptions, tips and common problems.
In the meantime, I’m going to explore other plant apps.
It works, but the Company has wrongfully charged me nearly $2000
I’ve been using this service for 7-8 months now. I paid for the premium subscription for a while and it was good, but after a couple months I decided it wasn’t worth it. I decided to cancel. As I was trying to cancel, the app presented me with an offer to instead pay $19.99 for a lifetime subscription. I decided this was worth it so I did it. I saw that I was charged $19.99 twice instead of once, so I contacted support. I’m not sure if this was Apple’s fault, PlantIn’s fault, or if I did something wrong. Regardless, the company was unwilling to refund me. Apple wouldn’t refund me either. I’m not sure why it was ever possible to purchase 2 of the same lifetime membership on one account. But this wasn’t the worst part. Several months later as I was looking at my credit card bill I realized that I’ve been charged $8.61 PER WEEK for MONTHS from this service, even though I had already paid for the lifetime subscription (twice apparently). I contacted support and they were no help. They said it was MY fault for not canceling the weekly subscription. This is ridiculous. 1) Why would it be possible to have two subscriptions for the same service on one account? 2) The only way to access the $19.99 lifetime deal is to attempt to cancel your weekly subscription, which I did. Why would the service continue to charge for the weekly subscription when I accept the special lifetime offer? I’m escalating this with Apple, and hopefully they’re more of a help than PlantIn customer service.
I guarantee you that they’ll respond to this with their copy/pasted generic apology and tell me to contact them again, even though they have no intention of returning the $200 they stole. Do not give your card information to this company.
Terrible rip off - first few days free a lie, doesn’t ID plants correctly
We read multiple reviews from different places before purchasing this app.
We read that we could try it free for a few days and then cancel. That was not the case, in fact, we were charged for a lifetime membership.
We used it to ID two plants in those first days that we thought were a trial and neither suggestion from the app was helpful.I am a photographer as a side hustle so I know that the photographs were taken in such a way that it should have been easy to identify the plants and the issuesIf the apps claims were legit.
The first plant I tried to identify was a ground cover that is in place in the home we bought and I wanted to purchase some more. Disgusted** FRAUD**there’s no free trial, they charge u day 1
This will be the first time EVER I write a review. I don’t waste my time ever writing these things but I will about this company because what they did is absolutely sickening! Even Apple told me to go in and write this review to WARN PEOPLE before they end up in my shoes!
I downloaded this app on November 13th, 2022. I would of had a 7 day trial that expired on November 19th, 2022. Which I wasn’t even aware of being on a 7 day trial. I had called Apple and canceled this subscription the same day because I was already charged right?
Yeah
Today is January 18th, 2023. I have been trying to download apps since then and it wanted my debit card information every time. I said screw that, never needed it before. Well I needed to download a Microsoft app today for work. Knowing the app was free I was like whatever I’ll just put my dumb debit card info in. Then I see a charge later on during the day on my bank account for $7.37. I’m dumb founded. I called Apple to figure out what it was. The lady explained to me they have been trying to charge my account since November and since it’s been over 50 days Apple cannot even refund my money. She stated if I try to dispute it through my bank, apple will then disable my Apple ID until the investigation is done. If I was to dispute too many apple charges then my Apple ID would eventually be disabled. With that all being said she told me the days they have tried to charge my account.
November 13th, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30.
December- didn’t try at all. Apple kept telling me I needed to update my payment info in order to use my app use. I refused.
January 18th- where I finally update my card info. They put the charge thru today before I even entered my new card info. They tried charging my card 17 times today. Then they got lucky cuz I did put my card number in.
The lady from Apple apologized to me so many times. She told me I have not been the first caller on this. She has spoken to several of people about this particular company. You’re account and all apps will be disabled until this company gets their money. It’s sickening.
Tried finding a number for this company so I could speak to them directly. Finally, I reached someone for them to tell me they cannot refund my money because it’s been over 30 days. Okay that’s a you problem. You charged me in November and was unsuccessful. It’s not my fault you left those charges there for months to get paid over $7.00, really!

Plant care app
I signed up for a free trial on Plantin. The same day I signed up I canceled it. Plantin went ahead and charged my card 7.99 I tried contacting them through email. nothing, I tried calling the customer number it says its been changed and no other number is available. What can I do? I cannot afford for this to happen. help, I have tried to continue go on web site to cancel but nothing happens.
Desired outcome: my money refunded or I will settle at this point with canceling my subscription and not being charged any more.
Android app
I installed the app and paid for the lifetime subscription. Then I tried the app with the option in there to figure out what to do about an issue with plant. After trying with one plant that had suddenly brown leaves, the app said that my plant was healthy. I tried again with another plant and it said the same thing. I paid for that app specifically to diagnose issue with my plants and it didn't work at all. I have sent multiple emails to the support team requesting a refund and nobody ever replied to me. I have sent about 7 emails without any answers.
Desired outcome: I would like that compactor refund me
Plantin app
I tried to sign up for a 3 day FREE trial and as with so many apps it wants you to leave a credit card, so that when the free trial expires they can charge you, totally understandable. What I found was they charged my credit card immediately. NO free trial, no nothing. just a charge of 50 for a "lifetime" memebership This could have been fine , if I had a chance to find if the app works or was even worth it. Now they tell me that since I signed up for the lifetime plan, the 3 day trial does not apply and the charge is valid.
I want my money back, this seems way too much like a scam and not a valid app.
They need to fix this problem with the app. In the mean time they need to just cancel my membership, this whole situation has made me loose interest in their app. I don't know if it works or not,I do KNOW their customer service leaves much to be desired.
DON'T USE THIS APP, THEY DO NOT EXPLAING THEIR FEES AND HOW NAD WHEN THEY CHARGE YOU.
BUYER BE WARE!
Desired outcome: Cancel my unexpected/unwanted "lifetime subscription". Refund my money!!!

Lifetime Premium Plant Care
I purchased Lifetime Premium Plant Care App for 49.99, when I went to use the app, it didn't include expert advice and that was the main reason I purchased the app. Less than 4 hours after the purchase, I requested a refund via email. Initially, they couldn't find my subscription so I took a screenshot and sent that to them, stating the funds were charged to my account. I have emailed them 3x since and still haven't received a reply or refund
Desired outcome: Refund for subscription
Diagnostic Feature of App
I purchased a premium lifetime subscription to PlantIn App at approximately 6:30 AM this morning (August 22, 2023).
I purchased the App specifically to diagnose the health of my birch tree. I took detailed pictures of the tree and uploaded them to the App. The App completely failed to meet the expectation of diagnosing my tree’s problem per the specific promise made to do so in the marketing of the App.
The App also identified the tree as one of two species. Again, I took detailed pictures of the tree and uploaded them to the App. I expected to receive a definitive species, not 1 of 2 species.
Desired outcome: I kindly request a refund of my $50 immediately. Thank you.
Weekly subscription charge $ 6.99
I have a PlantIn Premium membership, which literally is all what I needed. But, then they started deducting $ 6.99 as weekly subscription fees from my account. And to be noted they Call Premium membership as Lifetime membership, which is inclusive of access to all features. It is a scam that this company is running in the name of Weekly subscription.
Desired outcome: Please refund and stop this scam
Fake Ads
This app advertises that it can tell you what is wrong with your plant by taking a photo however that is not the case. You take very detailed photos of the issue and the app only gives you back suggestions and you have to press on what seems closer to what you have. Most of the time the options it gives you aren’t even close to what you took. Terrible programming on their end. Then of course it’s a paid subscription for you to get that feature, but it doesn’t work. So next step is to contact one of their experts. WAIT that’s another subscription to be able to talk to someone so they can tell you what’s wrong with your plant. You know what does similar work to this app and it’s free? Google. Just search what could be wrong with my plant and do the work. Since this app makes you do the work anyways. Terrible app, all these 5 stars must be purchased or something cause no way people actually found this app helpful.

Watch out for ridiculous pricing!
I downloaded this app today to check it out. I scanned one of my plants that has several yellow leaves. It came back with the correct plant however I tried diagnosing it several times with the yellow leaves and all it tells me is that it is healthy. I’m not sure that’s true. It also said it was poisonous but there was not more information as to who it’s poisonous to.
What I liked the least and what I warn about is the pricing. When you first add the app there are three price choices which are exorbitant! Seven dollars a week is the cheapest? Then when I went to delete the app it gave a lot more choices like two dollars a month. Just seems really scammy not to give you all the options upfront.
Won’t be downloading or using again. With the yellow leaves I would have expected it to come up with watering issues or like their ad running makes it look like there are solutions right away. Not really the case for me.

Misleading subscription
I actually have never left a poor review for any app. I was super disappointed. I intended to pay for 1 week of use for $7.99. I went inside the app and clicked to cancel my subscription, only to be charged weekly for 6 more weeks $7.99/week—despite the fact that my cancellation was listed in my app account. I experienced around $50 of charges after I cancelled. I ended up canceling through my Apple account instead. When I contacted the company, they said the cancellation button in the app is only for “internal statistics” and that all purchases are nonrefundable. Convenient way for them to take advantage of those who think they cancelled through the app. If it doesn’t officially cancel the subscription, they need a notification letting the user know they also need to cancel through their Apple account. Taking advantage of subscribers & not honoring every customers’ experience is a deceitful way to create revenue.

How is this rated so highly?
I’ve been using PlantIn for approximately 2 months now, heavily, I have the $50 lifetime membership. I have many plants all tracked through it. The problem is their plant database is lacking SO much. I got several new plants and found that 3/5 were not included in the app. And 1/5 had inaccurate information and called the plant by another name. I reached out to customer service, and they’ve strung me along saying they’ll get them added, over a week now and nothing. Also, they told me my membership that was $50, is non refundable. ONLY get this app if you’re sticking to the basics. Snake plants, GOLDEN pothos (seriously they can’t tell the silvers apart), ya know, the very common plants. I unfortunately had to invest in a new app. Planta immediately had all of me new plants, I didn’t even have to ask for them and wait on helpless customer service. I’d recommend Planta if you’re gonna have some uncommon plants in your collection.

Everything Costs Money
Do not download this unless you have a bunch of money to use all the features. Everything costs money. Also there are no refunds associated with this app. They will tell you to contact Apple for a refund but Apple can not give refunds because in this apps subscription terms is stated in capital that with any Digital downloads there are NO REFUNDS. They will send you in circles, when I brought this to their attention they didn’t even acknowledge it. Also I paid 71 dollars for a premium subscription and when I verified that I wasn’t going to be charged any other fees I was told I didn’t have a subscription. So I have no clue what I even paid 71 dollars for truly because all the features have other costs. DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR PURCHASE UNLESS YOU ARE MADE OF MONEY AND SERIOUS ABOUT PLANTS. This is a trap to get money, period. I have realized that basically I fell for the trap and just have to deal with that! DONT PURCHASE, SAVE YOURSELF!

Cancelled same day downloaded it!
I had cancelled the subscription the first day I downloaded it because they had so many days of a free trial offer first. I tried it right away and it kept scanning the incorrect plant data. Tried manually and it still gave me the wrong plant. They suggested I put it in more light, so I did. Sorry if I’m not going to take and carry my heavy plants outside because the app isn’t reading the plant correctly. I wasn’t going to mess with it, so I contacted the app company and told them not to charge me, that I don’t want the app. They then offered me just some more suggestions to try. They refuse to credit my account since the payment went through right away, even though I contacted them immediately. If you have the money to spend then this app is for you! But they charge for everything. I had ask a question on why one of my houseplants leaders was turning yellow and they charged me $20. To each their own but I don’t recommend this app at all!

This app is a ripoff i cancelled & they confirmed. Now its months later still charging me & even DOUBLE charged me a couple days ago !
WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION CHARGE SCAM!
DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A TRIAL SUBSCRIPTION WITH PLANTIN as you cannot cancel your trial subscription via the PlantIn app and they do not make it intuitive or simple to unsubscribe as other apps. As a result, it lead to continuous WEEKLY re-occurring ongoing charges to my bank account as I had no way to make them stop! I finally contacted PlantIn customer support, complained and requested the unwanted charges be refunded. They seemed very responsive and helpful at first but ultimately they just give you the run around. They requested proof of the charges to my bank and I sent copies of the four charges on my bank statements. I finally received an email response with instructions on how to cancel the subscription (direct with Google pay or Apple) and a general statement saying that the terms of their subscription policy is non-refundable. Utterly astounding…they gained 4 x $7.99 weekly payments from me, totalling $31.96, a total scam. Stay away.

Failed and high price
Installed today, opted for the 7$ trial, as the other two options were very pricey for an unproven app. Was supposed to be a full, trial but is not, more on that later.
It failed to identify my plant on its own, but gave me two choices. One was correct so I selected that. This particular plant is unhealthy, which is whyI bought the app, to see if it could identify the disease as promised.
The diagnosis came back with five options all different. Not a good result, I expected it to be more accurate than that. Five is almost no help.
So I opted for the ask a botanist option. Clicked on, and right away the “full featured” tries to upsell me to one of the expensive plans. I’m not a fan of bait and switch up sells so I cancelled.
Sent the pictures to the nursery I bought the plant from. The had an answer for me immediately.
Save your money. If you were just looking for an app to remind you when to water, there are cheaper ones that do that just fine.

Read ALL Reviews before Purchase!
I suggest that people always read ALL reviews before purchasing anything online! Protect yourselves people! I can get better results from google for free! I scanned a sick Aloe vera plant and the app identified it as a pineapple plant. I tried several times from different angles and got the same result. However it did correctly identify a healthy Aloe vera. There is absolutely no way I am going to pay for an app that does not allow me to try ALL of the features before purchase. Besides that, this app is way too expensive. I will throw the plant away and get a new one before I pay $7.99 a week! After reading Several of the ratings, I don’t see how it can be 4.4 stars. Too many issues with people having to pay extra for features that are NOT included with the subscription. Seriously? If I’m paying for a subscription to something like this, I better have ALL of the features available to me, especially at this price! I think this app is a money scam!

They will lie and take your money
DO NOT GET THIS APP! I got a free trial to see if this would be a useful app for me. They charged me one day into my trial period! I still had days left on my trial! I had already turned off recurring charges in my phone settings, because the app was not great at accurately identifying plants. I reached out to them and they lied about the circumstances of my trial, and offered me a discount on a lifetime membership to the app. I told them that I do not even want the app and am still in my free trial. They lied about my trial period and treated me like I was an idiot that didn’t even know how to manage a phone. Thank goodness for PayPal who could see that this company was lying and taking advantage of a customer as soon as they did their investigation, and reversed the charges. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS APP! There are more reputable and honestly run apps out there that will do a better job identifying your plants than this lousy app run by this this dishonest company.

Subscription wouldn’t cancel and kept charging me $8 a week
I’ve never given a bad review of any app ever. I’m so mad! I had been really excited about this app, but immediately found it didn’t fulfill what it had described to be able to do. So I immediately canceled. When you cancel a subscription during the trial period, it should NOT keep charging you! I canceled my subscription in the trial week (the SAME DAY I first used it) after finding this app did not fulfill its claims. They have still been fraudulently charging me $8 a WEEK for an app that was of NO USE to me and therefore had canceled right after signing up. Ive written them to ask them to look into this and to please refer to their records more carefully and refund these unauthorized charges going all the way back to May. I again tried to cancel again, but have no guarantee they won’t keep charging me. I found out I’m not the only one this happened to. I feel cheated and tricked. I’m considering a lawsuit if this is ignored if even for the principle of the matter.

Hope you don’t want to cancel your trial
This has been the worst experience with an app. Thought I’d try out the free trial, maybe I would like it. Didn’t use it as much as I wanted, that’s just me and canceled it. Got charged the weekly fee later that day…. Okay maybe I canceled a little too late. I get that.
I go into my account in the app. No option to cancel the now active recurring subscription. I figure that just must be a small error, easily fixed, reached out to support.
Eight message later about how ‘it’s a shame to see me go’ and what can they do to fix it in the future and I smell scam. When I told them I didn’t want free lifetime access because I was sick of being given the run around and don’t trust this company at this point, the next message told me they could manage my subscription and how I can do it myself…. With the options physically not there in my app.
And as I pointed out, if they were going to manage my subscription into a free lifetime one, they can manage it canceled. Zero trust.

They’ll scam you when you cancel
Word to the wise — if you like this app, try to cancel it so you’ll get a massive discount offered to you (I was given a chance to buy LIFETIME subscription for $20 when I initiated the cancel process in-app. They offered every “but wait, there’s more. If you call in the next 10 minutes, you’ll get…” enticement to not cancel. I declined each and deactivated my subscription, which the app confirmed internally. My credit card still got hit a week later, however, as they do not actually cancel your recurring bill unless you manually do it through the App Store or contact Apple.
The app itself has a lot of great features for enthusiasts and was useful for a trial run to try to save my dying Lilly plant, but quite frankly they should be ashamed of how predatory their cancellation process is. They must be struggling for $ if the price structure is nabbing people like myself during cancellation for a quick $7 weekly premium yet they’d go as low as $20 for lifetime. Gross and desperate.

Meh
Ok well I was kinda ok with this app. But now I’m not for it. I have been trying to figure out how to. Cancel it because I thought I was in a 7 day trail. But I can’t figure out how to cancel it. I also sent a ticket in under my feed back and it kinda strange how that tab worked just fine until I asked how to cancel. Now I can’t read the message they sent to me nor I can I send any messages under the my feed back. There is a 2nd tab that I can send message threw call feed back (not sure why they have a feed back and a my feed back tab) I can send comment’s threw the feed back but then they show up in the my feed back as a closed ticket. So yeah looks kinda of sketchy when this happens right after asking how to cancel.
So the app is ok, I am kind bummed that I payed for it though since paying for what i thought was a premium membership did not give me full access. The stuff I was interested in, it is asking me to pay more money. The information that the membership is giving me is stuff I already know about my plants because I googled it.
