Disappointing Experience at Gunter Hill Park
As someone who values the serenity and beauty of nature, my recent visit to Gunter Hill Park left me utterly disappointed. The campground staff seemed more focused on policing every little detail rather than creating a welcoming environment for campers. Their strict regulations and lack of flexibility made me feel like a criminal rather than a nature enthusiast. Additionally, the maintenance of the campsite was subpar, with overgrown grass and poorly maintained facilities. It's disheartening to see such a lack of care and consideration for campers who seek solace in the great outdoors. My experience at Gunter Hill Park was far from the peaceful retreat I had hoped for, and I would caution others to consider alternative camping options for a more enjoyable experience.
Cancellation Policy
Overall, booking with Reserve America has been pleasant. I recently booked a trip online and cancelled within 24 HOURS of the booking. Also, the dates that we are travelling is 3 months out. I was still charged $10 just to cancel. I find it LUDICROUS that I would owe $10 to hold a spot in their system for less than 24 hours.
I will use FAR BETTER JUDGMENT prior to booking with them again. It's very shameful that their cancellation guidelines are written like that.
Sites Booked - but empty upon arrival
Been to two state parks in NY for 2021 ( Rollins Pond and Buck Pond in northern NY) and thought our reservations were quite early in the season. As we attempted to locate multiple sites we noticed how booked the campsites were. During both of our trips that campsites were more than 50% empty with very few filling in the following night. Now it was nice having less traffic, it wasn't nice seeing sites get "booked" and continue to be vacant for that time. Others have also noticed this trend of "Booked" but Vacant sites. What is going on and who is responsible and what is Reserve America doing about it? Do we call Reserve America to confirm a site was "booked" or the Camp ground we plan to visit?

I've used them plenty before but I had to call them because I needed to change a date their site says it's $7 to make a reservation change. After calling them to make a change the total came up to 15$. When I asked why where is the extra fees when your website says 7$. The woman became very short snarky I actually could hear her sigh she was in a big hurry to get me off the phone when I told her to look up the information so I could look it up where all this extra fee money came from she could not do it she transferred me to someone else. The guy I literally said oh well various fees for this and that and I said what exactly is this and that your website says $7 and nothing about additional fees listed he said well and then he hangs up the phone. So basically it's fraud they're charging you for fees that are non-existent.
No problems
I've used them for the past 5 years and never had a problem with them. I've also never had to cancel.
Terrible since site update 6/05/2023
As of their new site update I can't access the site through the Safari browser. If I go in through Google I'm fine. Also the campground map for available sites is no longer the same. Did want show what's available on chosen dates.
Worst update I have seen! It's terrible!

Reservation system extremely poor
This is the POOREST system EVER designed to make a reservation! I totally understand why my mom is SO stressed out every year to get a desirable site. I never understood her stress, but I do now. Absolutely ridiculous. A good way to get the heart rate up and have a heart attack. No joke.
I DO NOT recommend making reservations through Reserve America nor calling the toll free number to NYS Park Campsites [protected]
NOT WORTH THE STRESS AND AGGRAVATION
Desired outcome: WILL NEVER USE THIS SYSTEM EVER. WILL NOT BE GOING TO ANY NYS PARKS EVER.
camping reservatons
my note to them:when i modified my 2-night reservation you made it a one-night reservation! a probably drunk, very angry man showed up as we went to bed. 4 people, including 3 youths, we were threatened and accosted 3 times. this man came within feet of my 5-foot-tall, 100# daughter yelling and threatening her and our family members. the next time he came he put his hands on my granddaughter's fiance's neck. this man towers over most people. if he had approached us civilly we could have easily accommodated this man in our camps as my campsite was right next door. i believe you made my modification of a 2 night stay in a different site in this campground into a one night because I was refunded some money. Why when I change the campsite from one site to a different site to another would you make a 2 night stay into a one night? I can't be expected to study every detail of every email from you.
Desired outcome: refund and more clear web site usage
Ca. Ping reservations
We are finding reserve America to be unreliable, not user friendly and it is siphoning off money that should go to the parks systems. We had an issue with to much shade for our solar at a site in city of rocks this week. We wanted to move for the remainder of our 14 day stay which was today to the 20th. To a site that had better sun. The ranger was willing to allow this but had no way to let us switch and free up the other site. We would have to pay another 92 to get the new site and there was no way to cancel the rest of the old site and simply move. Reserve America website will say a site is reserved when it is in a cart. I was told by capital one reserve America is a scam when I had a prior issue with double booking and charging and they got my money back. I have been in parks where it was claimed on their website that all were reserved and I got the last site only to find the ace mostly or half empty with little tickets on posts with no one in the spot. People are reserving and then not showing up and not canceling all over the mountain region because of the way this company charges and won't refund. Everyone was better with first come first serve. You could call the campgrounds before hand. The reservation system is a farce.
Desired outcome: Take the co tracts away from reserve America and find another company

No Camp sites available
Well, bought a new camper 4 years ago. Because every Friday and Saturday has been booked at Indian Springs State Park, High Falls State Park and Dames Ferry State park. I got a email saying one of the sites I was looking to book was available. Then I called Indian Springs State Park and they told me that only 3 days could be booked, Thursday, Sunday & Monday. Friday and Saturday was not available. So to make a LONG, LONG story short. This Reserve America is a joke. I spent $24000.00 on a camper, used it maybe 7 times in 4 years. Every State and campsite that uses Reserve America SUCKS!
Desired outcome: Get raid of this Reserve America and go back to making reservations at the park you want to camp at.
Scam no way to cancel if you book with them should avoid it
We did a reservation, and you cannot cancel, they are a third seller and they ask to cancel with the campground... the campground ask to cancel with the third seller... who charge the credit card... you screwed.
Desired outcome: refund
Refund for a cancelled reservation never received
Hi There,
Back in October/2021 (10/12/21) I cancelled (#606020) my reservation to Pismo SB site #OC14 dates 10/17/21 - 10/20/21. I was informed that for some reason a credit could not be issue back to my credit card but a check in the amount of $112.01 was going to be sent to my address: 5980 Birch Street #3, Carpinteria CA 93013 in about 14-17 weeks. The check has never arrived! I called again today and I was informed that another check would be sent to me in about 3-45 weeks! What is this? It's my money and should not have to wait this long AGAIN! Please I need someone to take care of this for IMMEDIALTELY!

Getting through to Reserve America by phone was extremely difficult. Multiple days we called and waited over 30 minutes .
The site we booked and paid for was to be electric hook up and when we arrived at Westcott Beach State Park in NY the site was without electricity . Regardless The park had to change our site when we arrived due to flooded sites. We were transferred to a non electric site which was very wet and full of poisonous sumac ! But we paid for power. We were advised we could use our generator to run a medical CPAP machine by the women at the check in booth since it was medically necessary . Staff at the campground visited us around 9 pm and told us we were not allowed to run the generator until the next morning at 7 AM. When we woke up at 7 AM we started the generator and we were approached a second time stating we could not use the generator. This time we were approached by the park ranger. We were offered to change sites yet again which we excepted. The new site was very muddy and difficult to get in and out of but had electricity and the check in women denied telling us the previous day we could run the generator in an unkind manor.
Desired outcome: Better drainage at the campground. Better communication .
advertising campaign
?Secret? Swimming Holes! Are you daft? Nothing remains a secret any more when profit-driven outfits like Reserve America get their claws into the great outdoors. Advertising campaigns like your Secret Swimming Holes email only serve to assure the overuse of previously relatively serene locations that had to be individually discovered in order to be enjoyed. We've inserted greed into the promotion and management of recreation on our public lands, and we citizens are actually paying more to use our own public lands in order to help you promote crowding. Stop the stupidity.
Desired outcome: Stop sending people to “secret” locations
Unprofessional
Cianne on the phone was rude when I tried to ask about process and bookings she became irritated short with me and talked over me.
Desired outcome: Retrain employee on customer service
reservation system has failed us
I have used this system in the past only to find out that all of our reservations, both past and present are gone. We cannot access anyone through the list phones for Arkansas State Parks and the park system has dropped your company as an access point. I want to talk to someone about why we were required to use a system that failed and no one informed us of a problem. Now we cannot edit or cancel without calling each park directly and their lines are unavailable as well. First noticed 8/2/19. Phone number [protected]

This is the first time I have registered a complaint about an online service. I am not hard to pease. But there were serious issues with our service with Reserve America that could be fixed relatively easily and I hope you will take corrective action. I called Reserve America Monday, June 10 to reserve a campground for Tuesday June 11 at East Harbor State Park. Unhappy for several reasons and request that our reservation fees be refunded.
1. Most important. We went to the park to show my grandchildren the beautiful beach and lake that I loved as a child. When we arrived at the park we were told, first that the water was contaminated with bacteria and unsafe for swimming. We were sorry, but realize that things happen. When we asked about the beach, we learned that the entire beach was underwater due to flooding and when we went to where the beach used to be, there was truly water up to the cement wall.
SOLUTION: Your agents should be provided information on local conditions as serious as these so they can inform travelers before booking. We were seriously inconvenienced by spending the night there when we could have made the park a day trip. Also we incurred extra expense by paying the required reservation fee. We clearly didn't need to make reservations for a half-empty campground.
2. When asked, I responded that we would like trees. My grandsons had hammocks. So the agent booked a wooded site. After all the arrangements were made she read the agreement conditions. It stated that many trees had been cut down in this particular campground due to blight, so there were not as many trees as other campgrounds. Our grandsons had to hang their hammocks several sites away from our reserved site. Thankfully they are teenagers and were safe being far from our tent.
SOLUTION: Put information pertinent to particular campgrounds in a document that agents see BEFORE booking.
3. I called because using the internet is difficult for me and I assumed the agents would have more information and booking would be easier. She did have some information I did not find online but had the same cumbersome process available to online users. She had a map and site numbers, but had to click each site individually to find out if they were available. We didn't need electricity, but after about 1/2 hour of looking for a site with no electricity I agreed to pay the extra for electricity just so we could get a site with a view of the lake. (After all that there was not a view of the lake from our entire area C, except through a path at the corner of Area C.)
SOLUTION: Provide better software, or training of agents to expedite the booking process and have up-to-date information.
4. Resolution: I want our money refunded as the current conditions of the park were not explained and our particular site was not correctly represented to us. We would not have stayed there if we had known what it was like.
cancellation policy
If someone wants to cancel a spot more than 48 hrs in advance they should get a full refund. We reserved 4 spots for a weekend that turned out to be forecasted for bad weather. The weather was to continue for the whole week. I get on the Wednesday before to cancel and it tells me no refund what so ever. Funny thing is, its October and the off season. You would think in the off season they would just want to attract people, not run them off. We will no longer use reserve america.
cancellations
Accidentally booked the wrong campsite in a georgia state park through reserve america, you have no choice except to use them since this is where you are sent once you have decided to book. When I noticed that I had booked the wrong campsite I immediately booked the correct site and called reserve america to cancel the first reservation. I was charged $10 for the cancelation, what a ripoff. Found out that if I had called them I could have made a change for free. Ten bucks isn't alot of money, its the principal.
Update to the Reserve America review yesterday. After leaving a comment on their FaceBook page a representative contacted me, and after verifying all of my information they refunded the cancelation fee plus an additional amount to cover the cost of our first day. Good customer service, so I'm updating them to four stars.
camping reservations
Hello I need to make a complaint about Reserve America. I made a reservation for my Anniversary with my boyfriend two months ago through reserve America. Yesterday ( Sunday) I happened to check my email and found an email from them stating my reservation was cancelled. I tried to reply back to the email stating I never cancelled my reservation, why was it cancelled. Today the 18th of June I checked my email to find mail demon. I called spoke to a rep told her what happened she went to help resubmit the reservation and we lost connection. I called back representing was giving me a hard time on the phone along with the upper visor. Stating that a refund has been submitted and that I would have to pay full amount again in order to get a reservation & not for the spot I wanted. I am charged a cancellation fee of 18. And have had my camping trip cancelled more likely by their error. This was suppose to be my anniversary celebration trip to relax & do some fishing together and they have ruined it and took my money.
active advantage membership
I used the Reserve America App on my mobile phone to reserve a Virginia State Park campground. The App was difficult to use, kept crashing but got the job done. 30 days later I receive an email welcoming me to my Active Advantage membership for the price of $79.95. I have never heard of Active Advantage or Active.com.
Apparently it is a pre-selected option that I missed while struggling with the App. It used all the information I provided to pay for my site (credit card, email address, phone number) to sign me up for a free trial membership that rolls over to a paid membership. I never received an email welcoming me to my free membership. It took me over an hour to cancel my membership and get my money back. They only allowed me to receive a refund because it was within 24hr of the charge.
I find this type of data mining and requirement to opt out of "free" trials predatory. I will definitely think twice about using the Reserve America App again or any product that is sponsored by Active.com.
not a trustworthy company!
In my opinion camping with family is a great way to take a vacation. So I went online, found ReserveAmerica website and made reservations for camping. But things have changed and I needed to cancel the reservation and change dates. So I contacted customer service and they refused to give me a full refund! Then I asked them just to change dates and they told that for that service I have to pay extra. Then I called the state park manager and he told that ReserveAmerica is not a trustworthy site. He also said that they don't do business with this site and that I'm not the first one who lost money because of them. Beware!
hidden fees
We decide to go camping, so I went online and found www.reserveamerica.com. This website looked quite reputable and trustworthy, so I decided to give it a try. I made a reservation, but had to sign up for their free trial. Well, I really thought that it was free and never expected to be charged. Then they started charging me and I decided to delete my account. But the only way to delete was by phone. When I called them no one ever answered! Very unprofessional.
I booked activities in wrong place
I made the reservation for outdoor activities in the park of Illinois through the website www.reserveamerica.com. After I received the confirmation info and booking number, but I noticed that the park was in Indiana, but not in Illinois. I checked on the website, but there was no info at all about the place. They placed false ads and therefore I made a mistake. Be careful now.
credit card scam/fraud
On 01/29/12 I reserved a campsite with reserveamerica.com. I have reserved campsites with trust and confidence for years with Reserve America. According to their customer service department, the parent company of Reserve America is The Active Network, Inc ., which operates Active.com. Active.com fraudulently took my credit card information and charged a...
