On Sunday July 1 2018, I went to Shoppers Drug mart on Elm Street in St. Thomas Ontario. We are regular customers there, and get all our prescriptions there as well. Last evening I went to purchase milk, at about 8:00pm. Upon entering the store, I noticed a lady carrying a small dog. I questioned the cashier about the store policy, she wasn't sure. I looked it up today, Shoppers has a no dog policy. The store sells groceries, health care products ect... Why would people think they can bring their animals into the store? I guess there needs to be more signage, and such posted at the front door of the stores. Now I have had several dogs, I am not anti - animals, however, I believe there is a place and time.

They don't sell open food. Cool down, we are in Canada not an Islamic state!

Is this really a complain? They don't sell open food! Can't you just focus on your shopping and be kind to others? We are in North America and not in an Islamic state!

Some people don't have the luxury of trusting their dog at home alone... and certain breeds are highly valued by thieves for breeding purposes or simply to resell. I personally have a 3 and a half month pup that can't be left alone yet due to not enough training and can't be left outside out of fear someone's going to swipe my 3 month old puppy. Plus the lady was even carrying her dog which I try to do myself whenever I go into a store with my pup out of courtesy. Was the dog barking at everything? Causing a scene? Getting it's hair in sealed packages? Destroying merchandise? Going to the bathroom on the floor? I think here in 2022 when people have just started to come back to some semblance of normalcy after covid lockdowns and on the edge of potential ww3 there are more important things to worry about, Karen. Plus did you even ask her yourself why she brought her dog in? Dog could be a registered support animal and here you are writing a formal complaint 🤣🤣🤣

Personally , after work is doggie time for me! I’ve been told in the past I could carry my dog inside. Tonight they said no dogs! Great I have half a roll of toilet paper till tomorrow lol! Who has time to be nosey about what us loving/happy dog owners do!

Check your state laws. Service dogs are allowed but others may not be. Instead of complaining to this website complain to Corporate. I'm so sick and tired of people thinking their pets are so special and should be able to go anywhere.

My dogs are cleaner then most customers that go to Shoppers. If they are indoor dogs and well behaved it should be allowed. If your worried about food maybe you should look at the kitchens in most restaurants. You would never eat there.

Many stores are realizing the therapy dogs and service dogs. Allowing them in the store is the difference for some people to stay balanced and focused , especially where mental health may be part of the equation. So when you see a dog in a store , please consider how their presence may be benefiting their owner.

And in summer it’s preferable to leaving dogs in hot cars . 🥰
