Star Walk 2 Beautiful!

Downloaded Star Walk 2 after watching Interstellar to help feed my newfound interest in space. Wasn't expecting a ton but was BLOWN AWAY by this app from the first startup! Absolutely gorgeous interface and design! Not only can you see the constellation formations but they are rendered in 3D and shimmer beautifully along with the twinkling stars other effects (ripping water, shooting stars, etc)! Not only is the app worth it for the eye candy, it's loaded with a ton of information about every body. The fact that you can point your phone at the night sky and immediately know the name of what you're looking at makes this app totally worth the few dollars, and the expansions offer a lot of new information/features that are also worth the extra few bucks if you're wanting to get more in-depth (especially when bought in the bundle). Gotta say it's one of the best app purchases I've made and I can't wait to whip it out for a night of stargazing! :D

Star Walk 2 Striped down, ugly, and expensive

I owned the first star walk, which is a beautiful app, thinking this one would be even better. The description and screenshots sure convinced me to pay a hefty $3 for this app, but I did so anyways, only to find this app, like many other apps, have in-app purchases. In fact if you don't pay $2 more, you get a app with less features than the first star walk. So I paid, irritated, thinking "now i have the 3D deep space objects, what could go wrong now?" Well, the "beautiful" 3D objects ended up just giving me poorly made models of galaxy's and nebulas. In fact, the galaxy's are hideous. I can't make out the difference between the blue colored NGC300 and the reddish NGC891. Why? Because they used a basic, ugly, pale green 3D model for both of them. The models don't look remotely like the real galaxy's. But, since it's 3D, I guess they expect us to not care. Don't buy this app. It's just made to take your money, and leave you with crappy features.

Star Walk 2 Meh

I got this as an app of the week. Tonight I saw that it had 3D things in it, especially the galaxies/nebulae.
The stars are fine, considering they can't see the surface from here.
The nebulae are fine considering the 3D shape they have, besides there is only 20 or so nebulae.
The galaxies on the other hand are really hit or miss, or maybe miss or miss or miss or miss or maybe hit. 90% of them are one of five or so generic galaxies that look absolutely nothing like the picture. Especially the ones where two are interacting. (Find the Sombrero Galaxy, I assure you it looks different than their 3D version, that's why it is so iconic)
As for the other 10%, they vaguely resemble the picture in color, shape, and brightness.
Not worth the .99$, after using it once, you get bored looking at them, since it's mostly the same thing, over and over again.
I recommend Sky Guide (also great for those of you with non-iPhones, it can be manually adjusted if you know where north is).

Star Walk 2 Great for stargazing

As a kid, I loved opening up the original Star Walk app on my grandparents’ iPad. It filled me with wonder and stirred my imagination. As a young adult, I use Star Walk 2 on clear nights by myself or with friends to see what that bright “star” is up there.
I’ve gotten into stargazing over the past couple years and have even learned how to set up and operate a decently powerful telescope (that my grandmother lends me). This app displays solar coordinates of planets, stars, and many other objects allowing me to quickly tune the telescope with pinpoint accuracy. It has definitely saved me the hassle of just eyeballing it.
I love this app. One of the few I’ve spent my money on, and well worth every cent.
There are additional in-app purchases that aren’t necessary. But for those aspiring astronomers and astronauts ‍ out there, the add-ons will definitely enrich your experience.
A BIG thank you to the developers for putting so much heart into this! I can’t express enough how much this app means to me!

Star Walk 2 Can’t stop notifications!

The app seems okay, but no matter what I do the notifications keep driving me nuts. I turn them off in the settings menu, and they still keep pushing through. Even though I paid for this, I guess I’ll just have to uninstall and reinstall when I want to use the app, unless it makes me purchase it each time I try to reinstall it. My job keeps me too busy to even have a life to do my Astro photography (which is why I originally purchased this app). It does help me locate things when needed, but being unable to stop the notifications seems intrusive, annoying and distracting. Swiping to clear the notification from my screen, doesn’t remove the red dot showing a notification on the folder (where I have the app organized with similar apps), which my OCD can’t seem to deal with.

Edit: Thank you to the developers for helping me turn off the notifications! Much appreciated even if it took a while for a response. Now I can enjoy this app when needed and not be aggravated by notifications when they interfere with my busy schedule.

Star Walk 2 Almost Perfect, But Not for NEOWISE or Planning

Out of the astronomy/stargazing apps I’ve tried out, this one has one of the best interfaces. It’s easy to use, and the app is just gorgeous. I also love the ability to learn more about various constellations. There is also an ad supported version if you want to try it out first. For those that are annoyed by the music/sounds, it’s also easy to turn off.

Now for those wanting to use it to track the NEOWISE comet, unfortunately, you have to pay again for a separate bundle to get access to it.

Also for any photographers, this is not the best app for planning. I wanted to be able to use the app to see what would be in a particular part of the sky in the future. However, you cannot use both the compass and change the time simultaneously. I emailed this as a feature request, and they responded that this “doesn’t make sense” because the compass mode is “real-time”. I understand this, but it’s not very helpful when some other stargazing apps (e.g. Night Sky) do provide this ability (and also provide better control of the time).

Star Walk 2 don’t listen to the naysayers…best astronomy app for everynight stargazing

this is a great app. I’ve tried and paid for many of the other competing astronomy apps and I still come back to this one. the updated design is clean, clear, and elegant. the typography in this new design is a great choice - larger for when using it on smaller iPhone screens, but with a thin weight that’s not distracting or overpowering. it looks phenomenal, and it does everything you need for a consumer-level educational astronomy app.
finally, let’s address all the cranky, pouting children that are complaining about micro-transactions, in-app purchases, special effects, and whatnot. this is a new version, so it makes sense to offer a lower price and let people choose extra features they’d like. all the extra content is optional - if you’d like to unlock it, it’s more cost-effective to drop a few dollars on the complete package instead of unlocking new features one at a time. next, it’s not that expensive - less than the price of a fancy coffee drink, but you still have petulant man-babies that expect high quality to be free.

Star Walk 2 NOT compatible with the iPod touch

Update: now it just crashes on load, so I can't even use as much of it as I could when I first wrote this. They continue to lie and say it's compatible with the iPod touch and it not only isn't, it CANNOT be. I continue to want my money back.

(Original review)

I have enjoyed the original StarWalk greatly, so when this came out I got it immediately, and bought the additional content too. Then I found out that it DOES NOT WORK WITH THE IPOD TOUCH 6 (or presumably any other version) because it cannot be calibrated; the compass icon doesn't appear, because the iPod has no internal compass. I contacted support and they ignored me. I'm not happy about that either.

So basically I wasted my money on a product that was advertised as working on my device but which in fact does not. If I'd bought it without knowing either way that would be one thing, but they specifically said it's compatible. The price of a cup of Starbucks coffee doesn't bother me; the fact that their support department didn't even bother to respond to my request does.

So if you have an iPod touch, do not get this app; you can't use it, nor get a response from the company.

Star Walk 2 Suggestion

This is a very nice, useful app. However, when I tap on a constellation or while I’m looking at the 3D view, I would like the option of turning off the picture of the mythological person/beast that appears. While using the app to look at the sky, I can choose how I want the constellations to appear, but once I tap on the constellation, the picture appears and obstructs my view. I like seeing the picture, and I love that the app includes information about the mythological person/beast, but I don’t like that the picture obstructs my view of the constellation and all that appears in it. So once I’ve seen the picture, I would like to turn it off.

What I really want to see when I tap on a constellation is the boarder lines of the constellation. I.e., I want to see the region of space bordered by the constellation.

Here is my reply to the developers response. I appreciate your response, but it looks like you misunderstood my suggestion. I know how to change the settings of the constellations. I mentioned this in my review, and I have my constellations set to appear with the lines connecting the stars. However, when I tap the constellation the picture still appears. This is the part I don’t like and can’t change.

Star Walk 2 Good graphics, poor controls

Graphics show the sky and with tap Identify the object. Controls are a problem: to change date or time one clicks on the unit to be changed then slides a finger across the right side but it’s nearly impossible to get a desired date as a mm of movement makes the numbers (date, hour...) fly by too fast to isolate the desired one - eventually the screen goes bonkers - spinning wildly. Also, The menu’s “sky now” really means select object of interest, as it doesn’t show the sky now but a list solar system elements and their location coordinates . Also, the real time sky view requires the user to hold the phone up so that it is between the desire sky element and the eye-this helps the phone and app know where you are looking but prevents you from seeing both the sky object and it’s representation in the app. Holding the phone straight in from of you displays the horizon across the middle of the screen, instead of at the bottom. Yes you can slide the picture down but this freezes the view so that it doesn’t change when the phone orientation changes unless one taps a button to in freeze it. The app should display what the phone is targeted at but with an offset so the horizon is at the bottom and both the screen and object are seen simultaneously.

Star Walk 2 Wish I could return it

I had this open for less than 10 minutes, but apparently that was too long to return it.
The music was annoying, but easy to turn off.
The sound effects were overdone, but easy to turn off.
The constellation images were over the top, and they have animations that shimmer and sparkle when you pan around the sky. They are very distracting and can make the stars of the constellations difficult to see and identify. I couldn’t turn off the sparkle. One option in the settings looked promising, but it didn’t do anything that I could identify.
Most annoying is that the app requires an additional in-app purchase for more than a very limited discussion of simple things like individual planets. That isn’t clear here In the App Store. Fortunately this is partly corrected by a button that links directly to Wikipedia.

After playing with it some more, I found the setting to “dial down” the animated constellation images. But even the simple stick figures are animated, disappearing and redrawing (note: not “reappearing”) as I pan through the sky. Someone might find that entertaining for a few minutes sitting at their desk, but the feature makes it difficult to compare to the night sky.

I’m still very annoyed that an in-app purchase is required to see full content.

The jury is still out on notifications.

Star Walk 2 Original was better

There's one thing this new Star Walk has over the old one--it manages to look even more amazing. It's extremely smooth, tracks well in AR mode, and is very intuitive. But after that wears off, you realize what you've lost. The 3D constellations are distracting because they constantly "shimmer." The option for Telrad circles is gone (Star Walk 1 was one of a very few that actually had that option). And worst of all, you'll need in-app purchases to bring it back to (almost) the level of the original app. For those of use who already purchased Star Walk 1, this is kind of a slap (and I'm not asking for a freebee here--Star Walk 1 is totally broken on iOS 8 so I'm left with no option).

The app is also low on settings--I can find no way to turn off satellites, meteor showers, etc... the screen is looking rather cluttered now and I guess I'm stuck with them...? On top of that, everything bu11frogg2 said is spot on: the UI tends to glitch during time lapse, and selecting just about any object will bring up a nag for an upgrade if you haven't purchased them already.

Sadly, this new app really does feel like a cash-grab. I'm giving three stars because if you've never used Star Walk 1, you don't know what you're missing, and Star Walk 2 is undeniably gorgeous. I would love to see Star Walk 2 improved:

- Restore the option for Telrad circles
- Give us the option to individually turn off satellites, meteors, star names, etc
- Restore the option for 2D constellation images
- Fix the slight glitch during time lapse

Until then, check out Star Chart--it's by far the best free app (better than many pay apps), or if you're up for spending some money, Sky Guide ($2) is my recommendation until Vito fixes Star Walk 2.

Star Walk 2 Lots you don't need, little of what would be useful for a beginner

I am a planetarium director and "Astronomy For Beginners" instructor, and I've used and taught just about every astronomy app for iOS ever released.

This app is loaded with woo-woo features that contribute nothing to its usefulness as a resource for a novice's casual exploration of the night sky, while lacking many features that would make it genuinely useful to users trying to get a handle on the sky above them.

A horizon of a shimmering lake, shimmering constellation artwork (which becomes annoying very quickly) and spacey new-age music and sound effects contribute nothing to the educational utility of the app, yet these gee-gaws constitute the bulk of what the user can control in this app.

Why is Pluto, which is impossible to observe without at least a 16" telescope and very dark skies, prominently displayed, yet the most popular objects for observing with binoculars require serious hunting to discover? Beginners would never find them in this app.

For newbies, learning the major asterisms (e.g. Big Dipper, Summer Triangle, Hercules Keystone, Square of Pegasus, etc.) would be invaluable, yet they're nowhere to be found in this app.

Why can't I dim the constellations? Why can't I display the ecliptic, celestial poles or the meridian? Why can't I control the size, number and brightness of displayed star names? Why do important binocular objects display with terrible images (e.g. The Andromeda Galaxy and the Hercules Globular Cluster), while faint objects of interest only to advanced observers display lovely Hubble images (e.g. NGC 281)?

Please developers, try again and this time pay more attention to the app's utility and astronomy-related features, and less to pointless user interface bells&whistles.

Star Walk 2 Not as good as the original

It’s hard to find anything without using the search function. You have to zoom way in before objects will start to become visible, which is very different than the original version.

Also, in the original, for example, the galaxies actually look as they do in reality. In this new version, they just use generic images of galaxies. For instance, the Whirlpool Galaxy is 2 galaxies, one being devoured by another. But in this new version, they only show some generic galaxy that looks nothing like reality. Same with the cigar galaxy which looks
like a cigar in reality and in the original version, but here it’s just a fuzzy round mass.

They really got lazy with this new version. I actually don’t even use it anymore. I went right back to the original. I’m actually p*** a little bit that I paid for this junk.

At the absolute least...fix the images used for galaxies. Make them look like they do in real life, like you do in the original Star Walk.

Very disappointing.

Dec-23: In response to the developer. The issue is not having more objects, the issue is that often I want to find objects by zooming in. In the original version, you only had to start zooming a little before galaxies and nebulae, for example, would start to become visible, which made finding them much easier. With this version, you have to zoom almost all the way in before they begin to become visible, and that level of zoom makes it impossible to find anything without the search function.

As for how objects look in the app versus reality, your 3D modeling is terrible if it can’t reflect reality as it did in the old app. A ‘picture’ of what an object actually looks like is leaps and bounds better than a “3D model” of some generic object with zero basis in reality.

Sorry, but you have not convinced me with your comment that you made the right choices on these two matters.

Star Walk 2 Best App Ever Made

This is by far the best app I have ever used in my entire life. It's absolutely incredible. People complaining about the inn app purchases are ridiculous and need to learn to read the description of what they are buying. What you get for the base price of a dollar is very cool. I HIGHLY recommend spending the extra three dollars for all of the add on content. There is just so much information to explore in the app. It's amazing just how much is going on with it. It's truly a beautiful creation. I wish Earth was included with the planets add on though. There isn't much to criticize however there is one more criticism I can make. The galaxies all have a generic image to zoom in on. There are a few galaxy images, but they are shared across all of the galaxies and they don't represent what the galaxies actually look like as seen though high power telescopes such as Hubble. I wish they would do what they did with the nebulas, which is use real photos of them that you can zoom in on and see models of the galaxies and see how each one is unique rather than see a generic photo or 3D model that a lot of the other galaxies use. That would make this app nearly perfect. All in all, it's an incredible app that obviously a lot of time and effort was put into creating it, and for around five dollars after taxes to get everything it has to offer, it's a steal. I would have no problem paying more for it. I've seen 10 and even 20 dollar apps that are no where near the quality of this one. It's sad to see the people claiming it's expensive and phishing for money with in app purchases when they're comparing it to the cost of their angry birds game. That's just ludicrous. Some people just don't seem to appreciate any quality work on the AppStore any more if it costs more than their quickly made 99cent games...

EDIT, to the guy complaining about the visual effects. There are adjustments for those...

Star Walk 2 Still disappointed

I'm a high school astronomy teacher, and I use StarWalk on a regular basis with my students. They love it. This new version doesn't offer anything substantially new. In fact, the "old" version is still more refined and easier to use. And in-app purchases to get all the features in the original?! Not only is this annoying, in the education setting it's extremely cumbersome to purchase because you have to do so within in each app purchased. Extremely time-consuming, and essentially loses you money when it comes to volume purchase. You shot yourself in the foot. The sidebar/main menu is significantly more clunky and uglier than the original. I had to read other reviews to find out that you can view the constellations in 3D when you click on them and go to info about them (so, instructions highlighting new features would serve you well). I would never have known otherwise. That feature is cool, but only mildly useful. I really don't like that the ecliptic went away and/or that there is no option to turn it on or off. I'd really like to see the option of showing modern constellation boundaries in the sky. This would be incredibly useful for my students. It still doesn't include absolute magnitude in the data section on stars. I'm sorry guys, I'm a huge fan of StarWalk and was excited to see what a "next-gen" version would bring when I paid you money for it. Instead, I feel disappointed and honestly ripped off by a company I really respected. I will not be loading this version onto all the iPads in my classroom, nor will I be recommending it to my students. Make this version actually better and more useful to me as an educator (not to mention a fan), and I'll consider spending the money. Until then, the original version of StarWalk is where I'm staying. It's actually better. But I'll keep this version on my iPhone and check in with it hoping for legitimate improvement worthy of calling it StarWalk 2. In the meantime, stop ripping people off with a new coat of paint. That's the most disappointing part. This is NOT StarWalk 2 yet. It's barely StarWalk 1s.

Star Walk 2 App maker responds to review and Problem Fixed!

I complained about too many labels cluttering the screen and Vito Technology fixed the problem by adding a button to remove all labels, but you can still select a star to reveal the stars' name, or you can zoom in to see the lines connecting the stars to form a constellation!

Great job. Obviously this app is being maintained.

Do not waist your time with the Star Wslk 2 free version. Too many adds.

Star walk 2 . The space satellites they show zooming across the Star Walk 2 screen are not visible in the sky and have no chance of ever being visible. The Star Walk 2 app space satellites of interest not the actual rocket parts (left over from previous mission) that are visible.
There is no way to make disappear -reappear labels of stars and constellations!
This app even gives prominent labels to stars that are not visible to naked eye i.e. stars of constellation Camelopardalis.
It seems the people who made Star Walk 2 are not people who look at stars. Here are some tips from a person who looks at stars.
I rate Star Walk 2 app 1/5, because sky object labels are always on scree, there are no buttons on screen to make the star and constellations labels go away!
Star Walk has a great feature, the magnification bar to make stars appear or disappear. This feature should be on the Sky Screen for essay adjustment, comparing the current night sky
Observation conditions do change.
The free original Star Walk has a two step process to make all labels go away, 1- zoom out 2-set magnification bar to left.
The one great feature of original Star Walk app is you can make all labels and constellation lines go away and move the magnification bar so star brightness matchs current conditions!
Unfortunately even in original Star Walk you have to switch to other screens to make star names reappear and in the process you kind of lose your place in the sky.
In Star Walk 2 what is on screen never matches the sky because labels are always there and disturbs a persons sense of proportion/distance between the stars!
The menu button is always on the screne but what should always be on screen are buttons to make labels come and go.

Star Walk 2 Premium Version: Still No Access to Everything

Bennett Smith, High school Student
PRICE:
$2.99 (premium) $0.00 (lite version)
APP AUDIENCE:
Anyone interested in constellations, space, and stars; those who may find this app useful include but are not limited to astronomers, astrologists, and other professionals in a similar field potentially as a reference or observation tool.
SIMPLICITY AND EASE OF USE:
4/5, finding out how to navigate and use the basic features this app provides and advertises is fairly easy, and doesn’t take to long to memorize and understand. There are more advanced features offered which are apparently for those who plan to use this app as a tool as opposed to a pass time. These extra options however could overwhelm those new to astrology and/ or astrology apps in general. One ***discouraging*** thing about the premium*** version is that the $3 doesn’t even cover all the features of the app; there are still other features -that the app doesn’t stop reminding you about- that have to be either bought or subscribed to the annual premium they’re included in. The app’s structure and prioritization of purpose does allow the user to experience the full benefits and constellation info in short burst usage, however the app appears to be able to sustain its usefulness over longer periods of time if needed by the user
PLAYFULNESS:
Overall the navigation, presentation, and straightforwardness of the app’s capabilities do deliver a feeling of satisfaction and fascination with the app just as much with the information presented, especially when using the app’s ***AR*** features, despite some flaws with the feature.
VISUAL DESIGN:
The constellations are overlaid with a transparent geometric styled picture/ image which helps the user to know what animal, mythical figure, etc. a constellation’s stars represent, plus it looks pretty cool.
SOUND DESIGN:
All sounds in the game serve little to no function other than to provide additional depth to the presentation and tone of the app. A track plays while viewing constellations and stars that attempts to invoke its subtle mystical, unknowing, and elusive stylization in the user.
DISABILITY SUPPORT:
No major disability features are present, leaving those who have a disability to iOS’ support settings. However one of the more prominent reviews for the app on the App Store discloses how much her son who struggles with a mental disability uses the app and enjoys it.
USAGE EXAMPLES:
•Students taking a related science course using the app’s information for further study material
•Astrologists, Astronomers, or other professionals in the field of constellations and space activity using the app’s location info on said constellations and meteor showers as a reference tool
•A social nighttime activity with family and/ or friends
RELATED AND SIMILAR APPS:
The app appears to offer features and services comparable to those of similar applications in the App Store.

Star Walk 2 Hugely disappointed in the stupid ad they just put in the sky

This app works fine and has a lot of great features, but I’ll be using a different app from now on.

If you want your app to be ad supported, fine, I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is that they now have a fictitious space ship from a stupid TV show in the sky, as part of some sweepstakes, which now makes the data and accuracy of the app suspect. They’re sacrificing accuracy for ad money. What’s next, Star Wars planets and the Death Star? Anything for a buck, right fellas?

Star Walk 2 Another scam

Another app that charges a lot upfront then locks features behind a paywall. I used to have the original StarWalk app and it was amazing. This is difficult to use and shows you stuff from the past. You’ll get excited because you found a meteor shower. Click on it and it’s from a few months ago. New meteor showers don’t show up and when you search for them you have to pay extra. Update: the developer replies with the nastiest responses. Read some of them. It’s terrible. I’d never send you another penny you awful human being.

Star Walk 2 Greed is bad, mmmkay?

As a video game industry veteran I absolutely hate the free to play era. It's evil and robs people of hard earned dollars - sometimes by the thousands! This is even worse because the user is constantly hounded for in app purchases AFTER paying for the app. At least offer it up for free then fish for those purchases, or price the app more appropriately. When I buy an astronomy app I expect deep sky objects to be included. I've deleted. I'll stick with the first one for now but I'll probably just spend more time in sky safari from now on.

Star Walk 2 Constant prompting for upgrade purchases makes app very frustrating to use

The pushing of in-app purchases (upgrades) makes this program extremely frustrating to use. Since one pays for this app, why do we have to suffer continual prompts to buy upgrades? Very very often when you touch the screen to get information, a splash screen is displayed to purchase upgrades instead of giving you the desired information. You never know when a screen touch will wipe out what you were looking at and display the purchase screen. Very disappointed! I'm just going to use other astronomy programs ... this one is much too annoying do use.

Star Walk 2 Where’s Messier?

In Star Walk 1 Messier objects appeared much easier with the slightest 2-finger magnification. Star Walk 2 does have more information on screen — for those with 10 or 14 inch scopes who are looking for dim stars & comets. BRING BACK THE EASE OF FINDING BASICS MESSIER & NGC OBJECTS! I made this request before & was blown off with the explanation that I could (& I can — thus 1instead of zero) find objects with very large 2-finger magnification. The most accessible objects in small scope should be most accessible in your program. PLEASE. Anyone else?

Star Walk 2 Pure fake App!

You download the lite version, and inside it they tell you if you pay $5.99 you are going to have access to the planets and everything, once you buy it you are going to have nothing, just few things and then they tell you there if you pay $2.99 more you are going to have access to the full package of planets, it is a pure lie if you follow the play of this Applications, that are going to still your money al the time and at the end you are to pay if you follow it $100.00! I would not recommend to anybody this Application part of too many bundles and lies!

Star Walk 2 Look elsewhere

You used to be able to identify basic constellations and satellites, but it appears everything is now an in-app purchase. I get that app developers like to eat too, but the perpetual hand out in an app, I believe I originally paid for (I hope I didn’t given how useless it is now) is a little obnoxious. Star walk 1 is still grand though - if you have SW1, you don’t need SW2 and if you don’t have SW1, you still have no use for SW2. The second star as: a)it’s christmas, b) the app used to be somewhat functional, and c) it’s associated with Star Walk 1 which is still a fine app.

Star Walk 2 Could be great except…

This is a convenient way to find objects in the night sky. However, there are a couple of problems using it on an iPhone.
1) the labels for objects are very small, and if you are using night vision, they are very hard to read. This is actually the primary reason that I am looking for a different app and will no longer be able to use this one. I cannot find any accessibility accommodations at all.
2) when I am able to see the labels, a planet label is often omitted in favor of the label for a constellation. E.g, Mars is not shown on the star map because it is under the label for Gemini.

Star Walk 2 Privacy issues

Update after developer response:
What you say doesn’t match up against what your privacy disclaimer says on the App Store. You could have stated that the information you collected on me was anonymous, however you didn’t state that. If that’s what you meant you should change it. Until then I’ll assume that you are collecting personally identifying data on me.

Original review:
Exactly why are you logging my phones unique identifier and sharing it across other websites or other companies? If you want to profit off of my data, you should out right ask, and not just assume I want to give it. Sick of it...

Star Walk 2 Hello Ads

Bought the original version of this app years ago. Then bought this version. It’s a great app, but...I hadn’t used it in awhile and opened it up this morning to see what celestial body was next to the moon. By the time I had figured it out, Venus, I had been shown 5 or 6 full screen ads, including a YouTube style video ad that I was graciously allowed to skip after 10 seconds. It’s a great app, but given the fact I purchased it, and that they offer a gazillion in-app purchases they could probably tone down the in your face constant ads. I’m sure there’s an option to pay again to disable them, but I won’t be around to find out.

Star Walk 2 Extremely Displeased with new App

Got the original Star Walk about 7 years ago and got many friends and family to get it as well. Haven’t used it in quite some time and when I opened the original app it wasn’t working very well, so I purchased the new version. I don’t know what has happened in the last few years, but the app is NOT intuitive. It used to immediately align with the skyline of my location when starting the app. I am using a 12.9 iPad Pro and have spent way too much time trying to just calibrate it to see my local night sky to no avail. This has too many additions and has lost its original ‘fun’ of being able to open app and begin to see what is above us. Sadly disappointed and will ask Apple to refund.

Star Walk 2 Planet Internal Structure Not Showing

Selecting a planet, say Mars, and going to the Internal Structure tab causes the app to go into a bug loop.

The internal structure will not show, and if you select to view the planet’s missions before, they’ll keep on displaying no matter what tab you go to. Seems like a display buffer is not correctly being flushed.

Also, if you select a planet, go to its Internal Structure, then go back to the main view screen, and then go back again to the same planet, then the planet is very tiny and cannot be zoomed in.. and all missions, satellites have no labels.

Happening for a few releases now, including the latest one (May 18, ‘19). Running iOS 12.3, on an iPhone Xs, 64 GB, and AT&T.

App used to be great. Now, eh, not so much.

Star Walk 2 Money Pit

I used to love Sky Walk for its simplicity, and then 2.0 came out with tons of pay extra features that I feel are no better than the free versions offered by competitors.

Over time I began using 2.0 more than 1.0 and liked it after turning off the shiny graphics.

It remained my goto app until recently because the map won’t sync. In v1.0 you are directed to make figure eight motions with your phone until it syncs up. This doesn’t work with 2.0, and I’ve searched the devs website for help with this issue. I couldn’t find ANYTHING to help with this issue.

When I open the app I get a map that is 90+\- degrees counter clockwise, 5-10 degrees off the horizontal and vertical.

I would really like to fix this considering my investment.

Star Walk 2 Apple Watch App Undocumented, Doesn't Work

I was looking for a star map that I could reference on my Apple Watch. I exercise every morning before sunrise, leaving my iPhone at home.

The Apple Watch app only ever shows a circle with an arrow. Whatever this cryptic user interface was intended to do, it does not respond to taps, Force Touch, or rotation of the digital crown.

The term "Apple Watch" appears once in the vintage (2018!) product manual linked in the Help section of the iOS app — on the title page. This developer clearly doesn't invest in documentation. For all I know, maybe the developer never finished the Apple Watch app.

I uninstalled Star Walk 2 after five minutes. Thankfully, I only wasted $2.99! As it turned out, the other app I tried, Night Sky, works perfectly, right out of the box, on my Apple Watch Series 5.

Star Walk 2 Request to allow for recalibration!

I love this app. I loved its predecessor too. But I'm getting increasingly frustrated at the app's inability to recalibrate. I tried using it this morning to show my 3-yr-old that Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and Pluto were all in a line (more or less) but had to shift my phone a good six inches to the left to get it to display. I was trying to use the moon as a large visual reference, and no dice. I tried closing the app and relaunching when I got to work, this time using the sun as an easy reference point, and still nothing. I seem to recall that I could recalibrate the original Star Walk whenever I felt it was necessary, and now I can't find anything that lets me even check calibration settings. Extremely frustrating. This app is otherwise totally worth the cost, if I could get it to function!

Star Walk 2 Disappointing

Paid for everything (app and additional content within app). App is not intuitive. Can’t exit out of camera mode without shutting down app and opening again. App never points North. It will always place north in whatever direction you happen to be facing when you open the app. Has all location permissions of my iPad and can’t find North. Android apps like this work way better. Not useful and disappointing compared to several other apps I’ve used over the years. Had to uninstall and will look for something else.

Requested refund from Apple for $2.99 purchase but will take 48 hours to process. I now need to figure out how to get a refund for the in-app purchase of additional content I made also for $2.99. I’m sure the developers will let me know how to do this. Worst and shortest app I’ve ever owned (only had it installed and used for about an hour before becoming disgusted by it).
