Long Distance Plan
I did sign for a pre-paid service and they said no monthly fee. After 6 months I got charge my credit card due to monthly services being charged for 6 months and pre-paid amount went to 0 balance. Only when I got charge to my credit card again I called customer service and they agreed to reimburse those charges, but next month I got charged again and I called and now they said no reimbursement. I did ask to review a recording when I agreed to paid for the monthly fee and they didn't provide that recording. They are just selling a product, charging customers and then cancel without providing a service.
Desired outcome: I would like to get a reimbursement because I didn't sign for a monthly plan with a charge.
Telecommunications/long distance rip off
Here's the freak'n problem to rip you off, your money, your time. You pay using your credit cards to buy long distance, can't call using your long distance privilege. When you call them, they'll say, we've system error, your address error. When you get upset, they'll disconnect you. Will never call back. Money is gone. I found a quiet few, and today, an agent Arminia. Talked to the supervisors, don't make sense.
Be careful when you buy their products and services.
The company didn't warn me and closed my account
I had the account in Startec Global Communication. I didn’t use it within 2 months and when I tried to open this account, the website showed that my account was closed. I immediately contacted the customer services, and their agent informed me that as I didn’t use the account, they were entitled to close the account and keep my money. I tried to persuade the agent, but everything what I told was useless.

defective product
I bought a Startech.com ATXPOWER300 power supply from CDW in October of 2009. I had this power supply professionally installed in a desktop computer that I have used all of 5 times over the last 2 years/3 months. I have switched to a laptop for the last several years. I went to turn the desktop on and got nothing. Took it back in to find the power supply is no good. Called Startech.com and they informed me I'm 3 months out of warranty, tough luck. They also informed that they ARE able to make exceptions, if I was only 1 or 2 months out of warranty. AND, that they only have a 2 percent failure rate with these units. So why not take care of a customer with a bad unit in my situation? I guess they'd rather have me telling the world about their lousy product and poor customer service I received..
Startech.com has contacted me and agreed to send me a new unit.

Biggest scam
Their customer service is awful ! You could ever get through to speak to a person. When you could get through their customer service rep's are rude til the max. we cancelled recently but bill after bill keeps showing up. Even though we spoke to the bbb and called into get cancelled. Excuses after excuses.
That company needs to be sued or shut down or something worse! It should be illegal what they are doing to the blinded customers. Not to mention they con a lot of people in by sending reps that speak's their language. They feel trusted
Telephone rate charges
We utilized their non-contract service, just dial this number and get a low rate of 8.9 cents per minute. We did and received charges on our house phone bill of 89 cents for the first minute, and 30 cents per additional minute. This company has addresses in at least Maryland and Texas. I haven't used startec since september 2010.i was surpised when i got my statement on december 2010 stating that i hav$6.xx balance and that it is now forwarded to a collection agency. i called startec and the agent (indian lady) told me that she doen't see that amount on my account. i asked to be transferred to a supervisor (american lady).she told me that they have some problems in their system and that the balance will be removed.january 2011, i got another invoice amounting to $6.xx.so i called startec to ask why am i invoiced again when in fact i haven't used them for a long time.plus, they didn't credit back to me the $6.xx charged to me on december 2010. ver disappointed, i asked them to cancel my account (1st week of january 2011).i was told that they will cancel the january invoice and i will get a refund (by check) if i call back after 30 days for the amount charged to m, y credit card on dec 2010.february 2011, i received another invoice notice via email. i called them and they told me that i have another $5.xx outstanding balance. the supervisor told me that she will issue credits but i have to wait another month to call them and ask for a refund. that's ridiculous! this is FRAUD!
I am sure Startec is a scam company, my office using Startec since 2012 which i only start working with my office at 2017, and i figure out that i never call to those location that showing on the statement, i try to contact for cancel account, but never successful, now, i dont want to play the game with Startec anymore, and ask my boss to go stop the Pre- Authorized transfer, then, Startec will never can draw our money anymore, how to stop Startec scam people money, may be call the police?
I don't know how they can be stopped. They charged me two times in a day at the end of a month. My usage was 75% of that charge and then they showed me that I owe them! I checked my credit card statement and surprisingly I found at the same time that they showed me that I owe them, they had charged me again but it didn't reflect on my account. Finally, I should have $ 24.06 on my account but I just have $7.81 now! I am sure if all their customers to check their account more carefully, they will found that this company is stealing from them! I don't know how to announce this?!
I think Startec clearly ignores their customer's request to cancel their account. My cousin opened an account with them a few years ago and he has not using it for a while. He and his wife requested to cancel their account several times, but the company keep sending them a bill for $12.53 per month. I called on behalf of my causin last month and wanted to talk to the manger or the superviser, but the customer service rep refused to transfer me and said, if my cousin fax them a signed letter and the copy of his driver's license, they will cancel it. My causing sent them the document they request right away. However, he received another bill today. I believe the company purposely ignores his cancellation request and keep ripping him off. I am wondering other people have been experiencing the same thing. Did anyone complaint to the consumer protection agency?

They will create 2 or more accounts under 1 name so that they can make more money. They make you believe that you can register up to 3 lines under you name no hidden charges and no monthly fee. Misleading, I was told to pay only for the minutes used at the lowest rate. This is how they get you to sign up. I cancelled and did not use the service since last year but up to now they continue to bill me every month. They refuse to give you credit instead lure you to sign up again, and suggest you to sign up your families and friends to get credit. I don't know how they get away scamming more people. Could someone stop them. STAY AWAY FROM STARTEC LONG DISTANCE. Read all the bad reviews and complaints. Don't waste your time and hard earned money.
PREPAID FRAUD CHARGES
I recently purchased online a prepaid International call for $12.77. I was surprised that they took it 3 times (YES! 3 Times) from my debit card.
First, I called Startec customer service and asked why they charges me 3 times. I was told that they only claim it once.
So I called my bank, only to be told by my bank that Startec submitted merchant claim 3 times. I was able to let my bank take the 2 more charges from my account, but that caused me an overdraft fee of $35.
So pathetic STARTIC is! They are whole bunch of crap and scam!
To people out there, never ever trust Startec to take money from you Debit/Credit Card.

I completely understand how you feel. I was charged 3 times for a call to a number that I did NOT make but they claimed that it was dialed from our phone line. I spoke to several reps and 1 supervisor with no avail of disputing the charge. I was even told that they did not have a credit to the account and that they can't do that. By the time I made the payment, they sent me another bill that said I was late with the last payment. I called to dispute and again was rudely told that they could not credit my account or drop the late fee.

Cheating
They cheated me when giving connection. I was told 11.95% discount per phone registered in the house, so in total I will get around 48% discount.
I registered and did not use the connection because I found out through customer service that the discount amount told is not correct.
I have been receiving bills without using the service despite getting the service disconnected 3 times and without ever making a call.
I have no idea how to get rid of this company. This is a big problem for me.

I don't know how this company is surviving; so far all has been negative reviews. I, for one, am very frustrated with them for several months now. They keep telling me the problem will be fixed today and someone will call me, but of course the problem remains unresolved and nobody calls me. I beg the the customer person/machine to give a plausible answer. If the problem needs time to be resolved then just tell me so. The customer service is the worst I've ever seen. When they can't give a helpful answer, they get annoyed with the customer and rude.
This company belongs to a bunch of thieves and pirates. They change your plan without any notifications and rip you off. They charged me 7$ extra fee for a total of 4 $ long distance call. When I inquired about the reason, they told me they have changed my plan to a minimum 10$ which means they charge me 10$ either I call or not. Aren't they THIEVES? They even don’t know 4+7 is 11$ not 10$!
The costumer service was a ### with a brain capacity of a turtle ca-ca, repeating the options without listening to me. A robot speaks better than that ###! Besides you have to wait for at least 20 min to get to speak with one of those ### headed customer service reps.
I am having a similar issue. The company has downright HARASSED me with their POOR customer service reps. This was over a billing charge.

Awful experience
A guy or girl from Hyderabad will call you every day and says you can call India at very cheap rate. I got call every day. Told them I am not interested in their service. Asked them to remove me from their calling list. Complained to their US head quarters. Nottign worked. This really sucks. They are just behind people with no ethics or value. Just troble every one every day to sell their product which no one buys. Horrible ridiculous company. Never go for Startec.

Please do not give your debit/credit number to Startec. When I first open up my account with them almost 2 year ago I asked them if there was any monthly fee, they they said no. For cell service is just as you go that you can only pay the minutes you used, no monthly or other charges. Afrer carefully look through my bank statement last seven months before I cosed my account in Jun they had been charging me an extra amount . They managed to take 27 dollers to finally close my account. Surprisingly I received the statement today from startec even though I closed my account in Jun and have not been using them since. I immediately called them to have him explain the charges. He said My account is not close and I need to pay monthly fee and because I have not been pay that there are late charges. I told him to close my account he refused saing not untill he receive money from me. PLEASE BE AWARE WITH THIS COMPANY. PLEASE MAKE OTHERS AWARE!
My mistake was that I trusted STARTEC so much that I didn't check my statement for a long time. Last week I realized that something is wrong :They charge me double more than what was our deal from few years ago. So, let's asay deal was 5 cents per minute, now without any information they charge me 10 cents.
And the worst is that they are doing that from last September. It is my mistake that I never qequestion theyir credibiliti. What mistake? When I call Sstartec representative he was very ignorant! What diference compering with all previous conversations.

CARRIER COST RECOVERY FEE
UNIVERSAL SERVICE FUND FEE and other fees. WTH!
Please people don't ever sign up with Startec they will only rip you off! Take it from us who had a bad experience with them.
