This complaint is concerning StoneDine Cookware, advertised on television. Both the infomercial and the website advertise the product for $29.97 (+25.75 S&H). AFTER you give them your payment ifo, they ask if you would like to pay full price and get free shipping. FULL PRICE?!?!?!? NOWHERE on the website or commercial do they tell you what the full price is. You come to find out it's around $299.00 for the order. Now you're stuck getting the product shipped with no way of cancelling your order. You're stuck having to return the product and you're out $50-something dollars in the process. When you finally find a number to call they tell you they can't cancel your order because it takes 24-48 hours to process, which is BS. When I called a few hours later, they said it was already shipped. How s that possible? This is a total scam geared towards confusing the consumer and getting their card number so they could run up charges.
Here is the company website with the false price advertised.

The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Thank you for posting this. I'd suggest contacting your credit card company to see if you can get the charge reversed. I suspected they were doing something like you describe, since it says "try it for $30" but doesn't say that's the full price. I couldn't see a full price on the website either, and it certainly does seem like $30 is the full price the way they're presenting it. I did a search for "Stonedine scam" and found the truth here. I really appreciate you saving me time and aggravation, and hope you can get ALL your money back. Even if you can't, you're a good guy, unlike the kind whose business model is to mislead and rip off. Thanks again.
Anytime you hear of a company not willing to put the price of the item(s) up front and say that you only need to up down a small amount to try is a total scam! Do not get involved this is a dishonest business practice.
I'm sorry but the website clearly says on the check out screen in the item description that the $29.97 is the first of 10 monthly installments. People who don't read should not get upset when it is written on the website before you place your order.
"StoneDine 8 Piece Set - Includes: 3 Pots, 2 Pans, 3 Interchangeable Lids. Two Bonus Gifts: 11" Pan and 11 Piece Knife Set. 12 Year Warranty On Cookware, Lifetime Warranty on Knives. This is the first of ten monthly installments of $29.97. 30 Day Money Back Guarantee!"
Next time read before you make a purchase.
I did find a section charging 3 payments of $29.99 for the one trial pan they advertise fr $29.99. Be careful, you will probably end up paying $90+anoither $25 for shiping. I would not order from this company but I did see that Amazon has the pans, this is the route I would take if you are interested in this product. Good Luck.
To Nonep,
Please do not assue that people are going to go anywhere near the check out screen if they have no idea what the total price is before hand. I would think only an idiot would just continue without the full knowledge of the product and the terms before they order. If the information was on the home screen where it should be then that would be a whole other story. It is clear from the order issues and all the problems with people being able to cancel that this company is ripping people off. Yes it may be a great product but that doesn't excuse their poor business ways.
To Leesa: The merchandise on Amazon "IN NOT" Stonedine ! It is "StoneLine". Read carefully. Probably still 'junk', but ONLY $122.00.
CORRECTION to last post. Price is wrong. Stonline also has a 25 yr guarantee and you can use metal utensils. it is oven safe to 350 degrees and dishwasher safe. It costs more also.
Google Stonedine and check out Amazon's site.
I had my share of Stonedine that told the lies.
Just saw the TV add and figured that 29.97 was not the full price. I checked the website and instantly went to the learn more button on the home page. That also didn't say what the "full" price was so i checked out the FAQs. Again nothing but i clicked on the order now button there. On that page it talked about this is the first of 10 monthly payments. However now when i try to repeat it, it just took me back to the home page. They may have changed it from what it was when i first did it but that was 20 min ago. It did take me to it before I put any information in the order checkout process. Maybe I went in another way, however it didn't seem overly difficult to get to but now it is. I don't know!
While I don't agree with that business practice since it targets the impulse buyers you just got to watch out. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Let me also state that i do feel badly for people who got taken by this. This company is an unscrupulous company since a good business practice is to make your customer happy so they tell their friends and you get more business. The product can be expensive and be in monthly payments, thats fine but don't con people into it. Also how can you trust the 12 year warranty since they try to take you in the first minuet of doing business with them.
In my own case, I encountered the monthly installments after credit card information had already been provided and moved on to the next screen. By then your credit information has been submitted but you have not actually completed the buying process. The advertisement is deceptive. When I found out that the price was an installmental for 10 months I prefered to cancel the order but you have no way of cancelling it. I simply use back bottun and existed the website hoping that did the trick but no. Today I got e-mail informing that my order has been shipped and my credit card billed. I am now contemplating wether to return the produc upon arrival or keep it and bite that bullet. Obviously this is a very bad business practice and I see many e-commerce operators adopting this fraudulent practice. As an IT professional, I am disappointed that e-commerce operators are doing this, it has potentials to destroy this industry. I am now very concerned about ordering any products from the website having been bitten twice now. In the other case, I ordered one product, 1 time only, gave my credit card, insted of stopping at my 1 time order, the marketing company decided that my credit card has become their personal ATM. They continued to send me unauthorized products and billing my card as they pleased. It took three months before I located them and had them remove my data from their system. This practice is very dangerous.
My e-mail did not list the actual company stonedin and I had already forgotten it, I stumbled here after googling some other data in the e-mail and saw this complaint.

I found out in just a few minutes of research, using " pro @ con" websites concerning stonedine products, that that it is the consumers responsibility to fully understand the terms of purchase. that meaning, are you actually on the company's website? or, are you using a third party to secure a misrepresented transaction. stonedine clearly outlines your obligation should you place an order.
Its te same scam with that cat scatching pad...buy one for 19.99 and get the ceond one for free..just pay shipping and handling...$70 later...and you can't cancel the order...rip offs
Part of the confusion could be thet there appears to be two separate, but slightly different websites...
The first one I was sent to when putting "www.stonedine.com" in the browser I'll call "B2", this version sets the form for ordering on the home page and no where does it state on this set of linked pages, the number of payments you will be making. (Of course, I never entered CC information, so I never saw the page after proper ordering info was provided).
The second one that I went to was when I noticed my URL had "/b2/" where the URL provided by the user cletusvandamme had "/a2/" (we'll call this version "A2". This version informs of the ten payments when you click on the "order now" button and you get the order form.
People visiting this site may be speaking of different version of this site, "A2" which provides the TEN payments only on the order form, which because of changes, the "B2" site does not give you access to until AFTER you have provided them enough information to charge you.
Has anyone actually used these pans? I see all the complaints about not knowing how much you actually have to pay for the product, which I agree with, but...how about the actual product? Has anyone tried it? I'm interested to know if it's actualy worth $300. Thank you!
First of all, anyone who thinks you are going to get a good set of pans for $30 is kidding themselves. I experienced much of what I see here at the StoneDine website, but all I wanted to know if they were worth what I would be paying for them, whatever it was.
As for the deceptive business practices, all you have to do is contact StoneDine and tell them why you think you've been ripped off. If they don't make your transaction whole, and, if you paid by credit card, just contest the charge with your credit card company--they will charge back the entire purchase and stick it to the vendor. But you should already know this if you use a credit card--Good Luck!
do we have a bunch of idiots here or are they stonedine employees. Nonep:who would be dumb enough to enter information to get to the check out page without first knowing the product is worth their time. TomF, where did you get 25years when the infomercial states 12 year warranty. Of course i went to the website advertised on tv.
don't mean to insult anyone. but if you're going to correct someone, then pls use some intelligence.
You can go to amazon and by the 11 and 8 inch combo for $71.00, quite a bit cheaper then the 97 dollars he states that one pan will cost the comes for free. So you can buy the 2 peice here:
http://www.amazon.com/Stoneline-WX-9176-2-Piece-Fry-Pan/dp/B003K1B5FK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1277572851&sr=8-1
Truly Ms. cletusvandamme,
I clearly do not think you took much time to read through it also if you expected to get all that for $29.95 + s/h simply put you were not thinking at all! Thier ph number and contact email address is clearly on the website, also from what I read of your email you knew it was more than $29.95 but did not know exactly how much, you should clearly have checked that out before ever giving the credit card information. I suppose the lesson here is: Read through every detail before you readily hand over your credit card info and if you do not, don't come back and slander the company because you chose to be inept!
Good luck next time.
Willthecook-
Check the website again. You posted a link to amazon, for StoneLINE. Wer'e talking StoneDINE. I'm sure it will catch some people, the add shows the same wording as the infomercial.
Look, this set is worth 299.00. Any topline gourmet set is going to cost you similar if not more. They do hold out on telling the overall price till the end but you can back out at any time. I got 2 day shipping and the item was in transit within 45 mins. Ive had a great experience with this company so far.
I saw the commercial, and my husband and I were very curious on the price as well. No where on the site is there anything about full price, and I in no way wanted to go near the order now button, but, I do have info for anyone looking for good non-stick cookware. I have recently purchased a Paula Deen skillet. I LOVE IT! I will be ordering the complete set, plus the bakeware. The only thing i found out the hard way: my husband put the skillet in the oven. not sure the temp setting, but the handle cracked and browned just a little bit! And, it is tremendously cheaper than stone ripoffs! I got my skillet at walmart, but they are on qvc also. Happy shopping!
And, you may contact the BBB for help with the crooks, they probably would like to know what is going on.
c'mon "flairside", everything that has been said about this companys' deceptive practices is true...i too looked at their site, and many others...nowhere could i find a full price for the set, which set off warning signals for me. while being extremely careful when buying something online is good advice, not everyone will always do that...the fact is, when you run across a business that will not post the actual cost of a product, will not stop an order, and will make you pay money to send it back, they are scammers...they try to take advantage of the old and the inexperienced...not everyone is as brilliant as you, (he said facetiously), and the fact that they play on that is justification enough for folks to [censor] about these creeps, and to warn others
OBVIOUSLY, we can all agree, the company is engaging in deceptive practices. There's simply no reason not to have in big bold lettering "THIS WILL COST YOU $300!" otherwise. Yes, you should definitely know what you are getting into when giving out your credit card, but when you are being scammed (this is a classic con, the bait-and-switch), it's not always obvious that you are being scammed (otherwise, no one would fall for it).
Since their business practices seem pretty shady, I would suspect the quality of the product is sub-par as well. If you're going to shell out $300, I'd suggest going with Calphalon, Circulon, or one of their half-decent imitators.
I disagree.
The website even says, "if you're delighted with and keep your cookware, just make 9 additional payments of $29.97." That's complete and total disclosure. They're not being deceptive. They're not making outlandish claims. This isn't a Kevin Trudeau infomercial promising you unicorns, rainbows, puppies and the lost city of Atlantis in a book.
Infomercials in general are designed and geared toward people who are impulse buyers - it's the basis behind Direct Response Marketing (print/radio/tv advertisements with 888 or 800 numbers). In this case, a really awesome CTA (call to action) - the notion you don't need to cook with butters and oils - that you can literally flip an egg in the pan - cook a steak and have it be restaurant quality (not that i'm out to cook a steak in a pan but you catch my drift) - and do it all in less time because of the hot stone.
It certainly got me motivated to order a set for my dad for Father's Day.
Only in the past few years could you buy "As Seen On TV" products in the stores (usually on the endcap where you're more susceptible to make an impulsive purchase) - and now you will even find major branded products using this Direct Response Marketing practice to further support their retail efforts (especially if they need to move inventory - in order to stay on shelves, you have to prove you can move X amount of dollars in product per quarter). Think OxyClean, Head On, etc.
You trust those products because they're in stores, right? But a store can't let you try it and bring it back if you think it doesn't live up to its expectations. They'll more than likely issue a store credit and tell you to have a nice day - unless you make a big stink.
While yes, I do think that in some instances, an infomercial or website can be misleading to the consumer if you don't read the fine print), I know that the FTC and credit card companies are cracking down because they're tired of footing the bill for people who have disputed credit card charges for continuity based products or products where the credit card will be tapped multiple times (a la trial offers).
Things to note when ordering anything from TV/Web/Radio/Print Ads:
1. Nothing in life is free - know that going into an infomercial product purchase. Yes, free gifts that come with your order are free gifts (in this case, a knife set) - and you can keep those even if you return the main product. There is however, a little thing called "Risk Free" which is what this industry thrives on...
2. The coined term "Risk Free" means that there is no risk to the consumer.
*Example: I buy this widget I saw on TV and have 90 days (3 months) to try it out. If i'm not committed to the widget and the promises (or claims) the widgets advertisement makes within that 90 days, I can send it back for a full refund - less the cost of shipping and handling
3. Shipping and handling - many trial offers will boast that normally this product costs X but today - you won't pay X - you won't even pay *name a lesser price* Today, you can try it out for just the cost of shipping and handling. Why can they do this? Probably because they're not making money on shipping the product out and they've figured out what they need to do from a sales perspective so that they can.
4. Many infomercial products will authorize your credit card for the full dollar amount of the product or partially - you may see a charge show up for $1 or for the full amount immediately - the companies merchant processor is checking your bank account to make sure you have sufficient funds for the purchase.
Just some advice to remember - even when you feel like being impulsive!
I did fall for the impulse buy & I did it on a Sunday & I opted for the full payment to get FREE shipping that's when I found out the full price. I really didn't have a problem with the "full price" because I've worked in food service for many years and the best cookware is not always the cheapest cookware. My problem is it is right before payday & I just don't have the money in the bank so called first thing Monday morning. I got ahold of someone right away & she said they would cancel the order & I could call back to place it again but this time opt for the payments.
I think I'm going to wait until it goes on the "As Seen on TV" shelves in the stores now, that way I won't have to pay the shipping.
As a cook, I know that gourmet pans costs 100s if not 1, 000s of dollars. The ordering of stonedine was easy, and clear( The info about the 9 additional payments of 29.97 was on the very first page of the website)! I think before ordering you should check out the FAQS page and double check what you are paying before you submit your order! I have spoken to an aquaintance that has used the stonedine product and they are quite happy with it. I think it is well worth the 299 to buy it. I hate to down anyone's intelligence, but common sense tells you too double check what you are buying and how much you are paying before you buy it!
Yes the site is deceptive but I do have to admit you shouldnt give out your credit card info without knowing all the details. but I did my reserach first and realized I am a total buthole to company's who dont sell a good product. I will dispute charges like crazy if the company wont work with me on the sending the item back and I always win in the end. yet is a chore to some degree over the phone, but its worth it all together. Now that being said I did purchase the pot set for my wifes birthday, knowing the total price. Anyway they came in the other day and they are very good set of pots and pans, but not $300 worth. I bought a set very similar at walmart for around $99 years ago. Now the set is worth really about $15o so yes they are very well overchargering people but beware, they are very deceptive but most infomercials are. but I thought I would try it out anyway but these will be going back.
[cletusvandamme] you sound extremely stupid, read read read, the website clearly states you'll make 9 payments of $29.97 after your initial $29.97 payment
The ad on tv shows a web site address. I looked at the site and NOWHERE on the site does it tell you the actual price. It may well tell you the figure AFTER you have entered your credit card details. I am sure it would be impossible to cancel your trial. I can never understand why any state attorney's or consumer protection office cannot just pull the plug on the site?
The website is in no way deceptive or misleading! On the very first page of the website, it clearly states that if you are happy with your product after 30 days, pay another nine installments of $29.97. What intelligent person would ever think that a set of gourmet pans would only cost 30 bucks?! My opinion is that you people are upset that the total price is not to your liking and you're trying to get sympathy for an impulse buy. I bought these pans because I do cook a lot and they are perfect for my purposes. And they work very well. I am extremely happy with them, and before I gave my credit card, I had the sense to know what the price was before I bought it!
wow... I just read many of these posts and I'm wondering if most of you are on drugs. I also saw the commercial and before going to it, I decided to do some research first so I came here to view comments. I would have gotten better responses talking to a tree. I just checked the site out and on the very front page, it says that you can try it for 30 days for $29.97 plus s+h. Then you scroll down to the next picture and it says " if you're delighted with and keep your cookware, just make 9 additional payments of $29.97. Your total for all payments is $299.97 plus s+h."
It doesn't get much clearer than that. I don't see any deception.
Just to make sure I covered everything, there is still the issue of the $29.97 for 3 months... if you read carefully, that is for the 11" pan only which sells for 97.00 alone, but you can try it for 3 monthly payments of $29.97 plus S+H.
I realize that these items are expensive, but you don have to use oil or butter or any additive to cook a healthy meal. That is priceless.
I saw the same on the website today NkRomancer. Maybe they read some posts and are making an attempt at customer service. I didn't purchase these today but I may down the road. I'm keeping my mind open.
//I recently went to the web page 09/09/2010 and found the full price on the first page. I want to know how the product is. Is it worth $299.00 or $29.99?
I read all of the online ad. in the fine print at the bottom of the ad, it said the total price was $299 + S&H
however i do believe the product is highly over priced.
I just received my StoneDine cookware a few days ago and I love it! I fried potatoes with about 2 tbsp of oil and they were fantastic. I cooked sirloin and rib eye steak with NO OIL of any kind and it came out juicy and tender!
As of today, I have no complaints. Also, my order came with an offer to pay the balance before the 2nd payment and save another $29.97...which I did. If you are not satisfied you can still return them for a refund..It's a win, win to me!
All,

Enlarge Try It Now! he first thing that i looked for noprblem finding it.
Caveat emptor!
But how is the product? Still no answers...
I have been researching these too. My cousin uses "stone" pans and loves them because they cook so evenly. I had no problem finding the total price on the website. Also, I saw some comments of Stonedine versus Stoneline, they are the same thing.
"Stoneline commonly known as Stonedine is a unique German product new to the market..." www.stoneline.co.nz
I will get these at some point, but probably after they are in stores.
I just went to their homepage and in the middle of the page in the section that tells you about the free knives, at the bottom of that section it tells you what the full price is, plain as day. There is no need to go through the check out process to see the full price. You don't have to even leave the first page you click on to see the full price. It states how many payments and what the total will be, right off the bat. I call that full disclosure. I don't know how good the product is, but I don't see that they are hiding anything.
