Abruptly closed a credit card account that was in good standing!
I will never, EVER do business with Synchrony Bank again! I’ve had a R2G card for a little over a year, NEVER made a late payment, & even dropped a couple of $1K+ payments to avoid interest. Then out of the blue, I got an email last week saying my account was being closed due to no real estate & too many inquiries, yet I’ve only applied for credit twice since I got the card!?! This is now going to affect the credit score I’ve worked hard to build, & it’s not due to any fault on my own. Is there no way to file a class action suit against Synchrony for doing this to people? It makes me want to close all of my credit cards, just to make sure this never happens again…
You close my account that was in good standing
I received a notification through Credit Karma that you closed my Lowe’s account that was in good standing, and below my credit limit. I was told it was based on a random pull of my credit and it was too low for your standards? I recently paid off for other credit cards so my credit took a temporary dip and that’s the time you chose to run my credit randomly? This is unfair business practice and I want this resolved immediately. This decision is going to affect my credit in the future and I don’t appreciate it. I worked very hard to keep a good credit score and pay my bills on time.

Handling of credit card accounts
If you ever find yourself needing financing, PLEASE DO NOT PICK SYNCHRONY. If SYNCHRONY is your only choice, be prepared to deal waste your time and money correcting problems that SYNCHRONY created.
I will try to keep my issues as succinct as possible. I have three different accounts with SYNCHRONY. Because of individuals stealing personal checks and washing them, I only use money orders to pay my bills. I refuse to give companies access to my debit cards.
ISSUE #1: SYNCHRONY stated that they never received my October 2022 for one of my accounts and as a result my account was past due. I had to pay Western Union $15.00 to get a copy of the money order. SYNCHRONY cashed the money order. I do not know whose account they credited but it wasn’t mine. After sending them a copy of the cashed money order, they finally corrected my account. BUT they also charged me an additional late fee of $60.00. Because of their mistake, I was out of pocket an additional $75.00 (the $60.00 late fee + the $15.00 to Western Union).
ISSUE #2: They stopped emailing me my statements. When questioned, they stated that I changed my mail preferences. I did not. Why would I? It’s more convenient and better for the planet to be paperless.
ISSUE #3: On June 16, 2023 I mailed two different money orders for two different accounts to them for my July payments. On Saturday, July 1, 2023, I received both money orders in the mail. SYNCHRONY stated that they did not know whose account to credit the payments to. I am so confused. When mailing my payments to them, I included a copy of each SYNCHRONY statement, a money order, with my name, mailing address and the last four digits of my credit card. My payments had been mailed to them well in advance of the due date. Because SYNCHRONY was unable to process the money orders, one account is showing past due. They texted me that my account was past due. Yes, it’s past due because you returned my payment to me, SYNCHRONY.
ISSUE #4: They arbitrarily lowered the credit limit on my Rooms To Go credit card. I don’t use it often, as I am not constantly buying new furniture.
Please try not to use SYNCHRONY if possible.

They arbitrarily close accounts using logarithms without taking into account people's possible issues with a bank, id theft, or other extenuating situations - they abuse people with fees, high % cards.
I had 2 cards closed in 2022- both had 0 balances on them Walgreens & Crate & Barrel - NO WARNING, NO CHANCE TO EXPLAIN why I hadn't used them yet. Just, BAM closed.
I contacted their CSR via chat, and they just spit out pat responses after making you wait - you know damn well that they aren't going to remedy anything - they just want to ruin your credit. They need to be sued. STAT.
Desired outcome: REOPEN ALL 3 ACCOUNTS with a letter to that effect mailed to my home. If not, I will take further action.
They are doing the same to me. I post my payment 6 days before due date and plus some. It doesn't go through So I tried again and it charged me double yet only note one payment of half of what I gave them. This place is a sham and [censored] AMAZON for using this place.
Customer service rep hung up on me
So much for customer is always right or we will fix the situation. Alfredo was the Reps name. I was very upset and frustrated with the computer and particularly with the Synchrony Bank website. I used some colorful language at the computer and website (NOT at the Rep - which I would never do). I was also annoyed with Alfredo because he was being condescending and talking down to me. He asked me to stop and said he would hang up if I did not. I was very surprised because some people us colorful language at a situation to de-stress; however, I complied. We continued working on the problem and while waiting for the Synchrony Bank website, instead of waiting in silence I decided to talk to him (in normal language) to explain why in certain situations I use colorful language at the situation. He proceed to say I am hanging up and hung up. Again I stopped using colorful language and he hung up on me. I called back to speak with a manager (did not catch her name) and she was worthless. I complied with the Rep and he still hung up and the manager did nothing. I would have understood if it was at the Rep, but it was not, it was at the situation. My opinion, Alfredo needs more training in customer relations. his EQ is very, very low. People get upset and angry at technology, hanging up on them is not a solution. If you think it is a solution, then Senior Management should close Synchrony Bank or find different jobs.
Desired outcome: I want an apology from both Alfredo and the manager.
Sams credit card
I recently opened a Sam's credit card thru Synchrony. I make all my payments thru my bank's billpay system so I can track easier. The first payment to Synchrony went thru fine, proving all my numbers were entered properly. Synchrony credited my second month's payment to a 7 year closed ABC Warehouse account, and now has me marked LATE on Sams. I'm NEVER late. The bigger problem is not their error, it's that there's NO CUSTOMER RELATIONS there to fix it. I spent hours yesterday trying to get help and I keep getting looped back to Sams due to my account number. Sams can't fix a Synchrony problem. PLEASE save yourself. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SYNCHRONY.

Interest free financing
In November 2021, I financed furniture through Synchrony bank (bank chosen by furniture store) with a 0% interest loan expiring in May 2023. I set up recurring payments every month. I unfortunately ignored monthly statements from Synchrony as I presumed it was just useless data. I never received ANY emails or texts. My bank was apparently late on funding Synchrony several times and I unknowingly incurred late fees. After my final payment in April 2023, I kept on getting monthly statements, which I finally opened in June. This showed $300 in late fees and $1100 in back interest to day 1 in 2021.
I called immediately, escalated to an account manager and she denied waiving any fees, even though I dutifully paid every month and my financed loan was $0 by the time the promotion expired. Now I owe $1400 from an original $2900 purchase - which I PAID! Since I called about my account I have been getting emails and texts almost every day explaining my outstanding balance. Even after explaining I was not some deadbeat person not paying their bills, they refused to be human and do anything. Shame on me for not checking my mail. Shame on Synchrony for their behavior, unwillingness to be reasonable and treating me like a deadbeat. I see now how they made $3 BILLION in profits last year.

My wife and I have been a loyal synchrony user for a long time but this time you all dropped the ball after paying off our utv loan we sold it and wanted to upgrade to a bigger utv initially you all preapproved us for another 32000 loan however the dealer we were working with in buffalo ny was not very receptive on dealing so we found another dealer in hemlon pa that would deal and actually give us the price point we wanted and threw in some helmets and a windshield for nothing of course the buffalo polaris dealer had our pre auth and was told for us to reapply so we did and when we called about the status nobody would help my wife and I needless to say you lost a 780 credit score customer and we are very disappointed in your staffs behavior towards us we got a great rate from roadrunner and we took it tired of call you all and getting transferred from one department to another and yet nobdoy could help us
Desired outcome: pay us for the time we wasted all these years dealing with a company that has no clue what they are doing

This is a horrible company they have 20 or 30 phone numbers I had to call them all before I finally got someone who could help me they were very rude didn't answer my question I asked for a supervisor she was even more rude I will be canceling this card I would suggest to everyone to stay away you can get no help you can find the wrong number over and over and never get the right number it was not on the back of my card I am on paperless billing and did not receive a statement so I had to go through their process of calling every number and being told they couldn't help me or hang up again I finally got a supervisor she could have cared less I will never use this card again

Worst place I've ever dealt with in my life, company is straight up criminal. Got a credit card through them via a furniture store and was initially approved for 7 thousand. I used 1700 and left the rest alone for later. Got an email after making a payment to drop my usage down below 1500 that they "decreased my credit limit" or some garbage like that. Jumped my usage up to over 90% and destroyed my credit. Went from over a 700 to 650 or less, absolutely do NOT recommend. Stay away from this place, they mess your credit up beyond repair.

Synchrony claims my 3/25/23 payment of $67.00 was returned by my bank. Corning FCU. Corning has no record of that happening (see the Email string attached). Since then, Synchrony added outrageous charges that they will not itemize despite my numerous requests. I have continued to make my $67 payment on time. Now they continue to ignore my payments and claim I am past due for $239.00 for June.
Their late fees and unknown fees charges are usury.
I am 81, partially disabled, on a fixed income (S.S.), and cannot afford their outrageous charges, particularly for a problem they created.
Despite my messages & proof from CorningFCU that they have no record of returning the March payment, I have been, and am currently, being harassed daily by automated phone calls, emails, texts & mail.

Failure to share the account number and the address where the card was sent
As a frequent shopper at Sams Club, I was roped into opting for a credit card at Sams Club Lima, Ohio. Your bank has been sending threatening emails regarding destroying my credit rating if I don't pay the balance.
I didn't earn an excellent credit rating by withholding payments. I have been ready for the past two months to pay approximately $ 105, but I need to know the account number. I have neither received the card nor been informed of my account number. How can I make the payment in the absence of necessary information? The only information I have is that the account number ends with 2754.
I did not need this card, but since it has been shoved by an overzealous sales lady at Sams Club, I am now facing the issue with an uncooperative bank.
If you want me to pay the amount immediately, you must share the account number to make that happen. Otherwise, tell your credit card department to wait until I return to the States middle of August to make the payment in person at one of the Sams Club. Meanwhile, kindly have your credit card department stop sending me threatening emails regarding my rating.
I am traveling overseas for the summer. I will ba back in Ohio middle to August.

Closing account
Synchrony had closed my account without any warning and just a letter in an e mail, I always paid on time. I did receive a letter with some [censored] reason. I think that synchrony needs a lawsuit for damaging people's credit. This happened in 2022.
Iv tried to call the bank to try to get the interest rate decreased so I could pay it off sooner, but this company doesn't give a [censored] about people or there credit.
Desired outcome: how about just taking that account completely off of my credit report.
Credit Card
I had 2 accts, Victoria Secret and Home cards with them. They closed both accounts without any notice. I had no balance and hadn’t used for over a year. Went to use the Victoria Secret and it declined in the store. That’s how I found out they had closed the account. They reduced my American Eagle acct down $100 as a credit limit. No email, no letter or call. This is terrible!
A bill that has been pd and cashed and withdrawn from my bank, two years ago

Finally I filled papers out to experian, trans union and th3 other one..synchrony replied to ecperian, to delete ant derogatory info that the acct was pd..I even photo copied this and emailed the CEO..they continue to send me statements

Lock down on my high yield saving account
I open a high yield savings account back in April 24 and made a transfer from my personal account, the transaction took place on the 27th. I been signing into my account after speaking to many of Sychrony staff regarding my account being on a lockdown the explanation I got was that my account is being review and it takes about 3 business day, but it's been almost 30 days and they have no answers but just wait I don't see a reason and I don't think it is legal to hold somebody's account hostage after recently speaking to the supervisor by the name of Celefte she also gave me the excuse that there is nothing that could be done.
Desired outcome: I am hoping that your department can get involved and help me resolve this. I need access to my account so I can make payments to my credit card.

Credit limit lowered
I applied for Car Care about 6-8 months ago and was given a credit limit of $1400. I use LESS THAN 30% of the credit limit and ALWAYS pay it off. I received a letter dated May 11th saying that my credit limit went from $1400 to $250. I had a Chevron Texaco card with of less than $1000 credit limit, lowered the credit limit to $350, paid it off, mailed me the overage and then closed the account. Synchrony is ruining credit scores while people are trying to improve their credit. What's the point in extending credit to consumers and then lower the amount extended, ESPECIALLY IF PAYMENTS ARE BEING MADE ON TIME AND BALANCES ARE BEING PAID OFF? These credit card companies needs to use someone else to extend credit because Synchrony is HORRIBLE!
I only recently got a Synchrony Preferred Card with a $1200 credit line. The first time I used it I charged $600 or so in some camera equipment. They immediately dropped my line to $750. If they didn't want me having a $1200 line why did they give it to me. I suspect the business behind this card is high paranoia. I wouldn't have applied for a card with a $750 line so I'll I'll pay this off quickly and stick the card in a drawer buying a yearly pack of gum. I can't send it back or close because it will hurt my credit if I do. The worst part is the bank never sent me a notice as to what they were dropping my line or why. I could have been trying to pay a co-pay at a hospital after an accident never knowing my line was dropped.
Same thing happened to me with synchrony. Now they keep saying my closed account is past due every mo th, so i take a new hit each month. Suckers.
Synchrony closed my accounts
I have 2 accounts through Synchrony Bank, one for Lowes and the other one for CareCredit. I recently opened up my ENT account to get some of my debt taken care of, so I wasn't familiar with how the account number was supposed to go in, so me not knowing I put the last 2 digits of the account number at the end, I had no idea that this would become an issue. I had submitted a payment on May 4th for my Lowes payment, logged back in there on May 5th saw that there was a balance still due, so I submitted another payment. Logged back in there on the 10th saw that there was a $77 balance so I paid it. I had no idea that the payments had gotten rejected until I logged in a couple days later to make sure that they posted. I didn't receive any notification, email, phone call, or anything stating that my payments had been rejected. Same thing happened with my CareCredit account I made a payment on May 10th for the full balance, once again I didn't receive any notification that my payment had gotten rejected due to them not being able to find the account, I found out once I logged in on the 15th, I saw that the payment was rejected, I immediately resubmitted payment with the correct account information for my ENT account and the payment was processed on the 15th for the full balance. I immediately fixed and resubmitted payments for the full balances and my accounts are still both closed. This is not fair in any way shape or form and I wish that Lowes or any company for that matter DID NOT use Synchrony Bank as their go to because they quite frankly suck to say it in the nicest way possible.

SYNCHRONY / CARECREDIT Credit Card
SYNCHRONY / CARECREDIT erroneously charged a late fee of $30 and reported it late on my credit report. They are gaming the financial system to arbitrary charge these fees despite a customer making a payment in the month it is due. When I called them they said that the payment that month was applied to the previous month. Please refund my $30.00 late fee and correct my credit report. I have perfect credit until I began a financial account with this untrustworthy company.

I had a really good relationship with synchrony bank. I have three different credit cards with high credit limits had them for years never been late we went and bought two new trucks for our business and of course, with interest rates as high as they are these days I shopped with multiple banks to get the best rate on both trucks after doing that on every single credit card synchrony Didn’t even send me an email I went to use my cards and they all got declined called synchrony and they lowered my credit limit one card 7800 to 280 second card $9000 to 230 and third card $10,000 to 3250 which Only reason they lowered it to that was because I had a that as a balance for a 0% for 12 months offer. When I called to ask what happened they told me due to my credit report, not having a real estate account which my house is paid for and multiple inquiries. They classify me as a high risk even though I’ve been with them for years none of my payments are late and my credit score is in the upper 700s One of the worst banks I’ve ever had will never do business with them again.

After opening a new Lowes c/c funded by Synchrony bank , I charged 519.00 dollars which I paid off within 1 week. I needed to use the card again the next week but the payment although it had cleared my bank was not credited to my account,despite the payment showing as paid on the cc account. Synchrony decided to withhold the credit payment from my cc account for 20 business days.They have no real explanation except,”That’s policy sir” . Well Synchrony ,it’s my policy to make sure I never ever pay you a dime in interest too! My advice DONOT GET A SYNCHRONY SPONSORED CREDIT CARD. THEYRE LIKE THE MOBSTERS OF YESTERDAY!
