I have also filed a report with the SEC concerning this.
At some point, likely when they switched from VISA to MC I detected an irregularity in my account that shows an extra $150 charge added to my account with no understanding based on the total debit and payments made. I noticed this error on the month following the transfer of funds but it is not apparent on the statements so I simply added all my debits and all my payments from the accounts origination and sure enough they are charging me an extra $150. Through multiple phone calls they have refused to acknowledge this my proof is simple they can add all my debits and my payments and see for themselves but they are refusing to do so. Now the phone system is not working properly and I cannot reach anyone. I will be mailing my complaints and evidence to them in the mean time I seek resolution.
Desired outcome: Acknowledge your error return my funds, stop defrauding customers and pay us restitution.

Merrick Bank

The first rep I spoke to…I literally explained everything to him, and he took my information as the owner of the card and began searching to see if he could help me. He then began speaking and started saying everything I already gave him. He tried a couple other things to help me and did it again, repeating what I said to him, not as a courtesy but as if he couldn’t hear or comprehend when I initially informed him of the reason for the call. After being perplexed about not understanding why I couldn’t use my card he proceeded to explain the transfer he was doing to the Security Department.
Security rep was talking as if she didn’t want to be on the call. It took a while for someone from that department to get on the phone and she got on with an attitude in her voice. She began to explain about transferring from Visa to MasterCard which wasn’t necessary because that isn’t what I called about and we NEVER got to what I was on hold that long for, which was the fact that I couldn’t use my car to pay for an auto repair. After the rep explained about the credit card switch, I asked her for a Corporate number. Oh yes, she is extremely silent on the phone, dead silence. So while I am waiting for Security Rep to give me Corporates number, I get transferred back to Customer Service. What in the world is going on with Merrick?
I laughed because when she told me I couldn’t use my card until I got the one in September, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. So, Merrick is allowing their customers to go without using their cards for weeks instead of sending them the new card to replace the old one so that they could continue use of the card if they wanted to. Noooooooo, how ridiculous. According to your Security Department Rep I can’t use my card again until September 2, 2022.
I know I am leaving out some more “mess” that went on…listen to the recording. Lack of knowledge about products and unprofessional behavior. World is changing true enough but respect and courtesy for customers and/or clients should never be taken off the table.
I am a great customer, client whatever category you want to put it, but today after being declined for non-use of my card 4 times. 3 times at the auto shop and once at Chase bank. I don’t understand the lack of professionalism and not knowing the reason I couldn’t use my card!
I hope Merrick finds or gives training to your representatives in ALL departments, because customers and/or clients do use your card and I am quite sure make you a lot of money in doing so.
BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NEEDED.

Stolen card- took over 2 hours to get resolved
My card was stolen. I called and clearly followed the correct prompts for lost or stolen card- takes you to customer service. They can’t help. I was transferred twice and then the call dropped after 1 hour.
I called again today and same scenario first rep couldn’t help. I waited over 45 min to get to fraud and the call lasted 2 min.
There is no reason why a long time customer should ever have to wait that long to cancel and replace a stolen card. I had to deal with a ton of other cards and all easily complied. I complained to the reps and they said they were sorry and I asked each to file a complaint on my behalf but I clearly could tell that was hot happening. The last rep said have a nice day and disconnected the call.
Very very unhappy with the service, lack of ability to get to someone for a simple request. Not sure I will remain a customer.
Desired outcome: Better communication options. Correct IVR and do not send customers into groups that can’t help. Lack of empathy or urgency after wasting 2 hours trying to get my card replaced. Value your customers

I have paid my payments on time. not charged any thing on my bill.no matter how much I pay you guys add $53.53 to my bill. Merrick bank rv loan
Started automatic payments from my bank account as automatic payments in Nov 2020. Noticed that my credit score was being downgraded, logged into Experian account to find that Merrick Bank was turning me on time for Oct, Nov, and Dec as on time and multiple payments late for 2020 to current. The check is sent out automatically. If the checks were showing up on time in 2020 then they are also showing up in 2021 on time.
Please see the attached photo for the reports that Merrick has done. The first three payments are on time but list multiple following payments as late. This is impossible as the payments are generated automatically thru my bank.
Desired outcome: I want the paid late status removed. I have no control over what Merrick bank does when it recieves the check. It arrives the same time each month. If it was on time in 2020, then its showing up on time in 2021 and 2022.
Please cancel this complaint, Im taking another avenue. Thanks for your help.

I was approved for a card from merric no fees no membership fees.
I called to see when i would get my card and the automated service said i have 74$ charged on my card. I haven't received my card yet. Im not sure if it was sent to the wrong address. How was it activated without my S. S. Number.

Billing Scam Tactics
Merrick Bank have constant over charge my secure credit card account each month cramming hidden fees. I had scheduled a payment but apparently kick back on the day try to run the charges but then I have reschedules the fee but shortly. Merrick ironically sent out a statement to close out my account. Next Merrick was reporting false late payments to the credit bureau 2 times a month to make my credit score drop. Merrick run a scandalous acts reporting $ 254.00 later and new the entire time my account was close. They have cause me emotional damages and negligence try ruin my credibility to obtain credit. I would not recommend this shady credit card company by the way my money loaded onto the account then their suppose to runn as good faith to the credit bureaus. A horrible experience. Merrick keep secretly reporting to the credit bureaus as late payments when the account is closed.

Two direct fdcpa violations
I called merrick bank after receiving a notice to cancel my card after 16 years with you, as I lost my job but was still making monthly payments, but due to merrick banks essisive charges it would push my monthly amout over the limit. I called and asked how and if I can get the card reopeded and the agent said yes if I paid $316 they will reopen the account, I borrowed and paid $350 direct, a few days later I called to confirm paymnet received and was told that payment was received but they will not reopen the account. I asked for a supervisor and explained as I did to you, she said she will listen to the tape and call me back. After no call back I called merrick back they doid confirm the fdcpa violations but said nothing will be done to correct it.

Credit card customer service
Very poor customer service. I called to activate a replacement card. After I gave the employee my whole card number he asked for my ssn. I had already supplied my name, credit card number, last 4 of my social, home phone, cell phone. When I questioned him why he needed my ssn too, he said he would not activate the card without it and got snippy and then. ask for my mother's name too. Really! I'm not happy about my experience with this bank.
Random shutdown of account without notification
I have had a Merrick Bank card for over 2 years. Recently I have had multiple fraudulent charges atleast 4-5 times in 6-8 months. I get issued a new card everytime no issues. The last one a couple weeks ago I get a new card I activate it and it's declined. I call the credit card company and am informed my account is closed because of high risk fraud. I never received any letter of it being deactivated or anything of that nature. How is it my fault that i have people making fake copies of my card or stealing my information. Horrible business practices from this bank.
I had a Merrick card for a couple of years- maybe 18 months- never paid late and never rang it up past 600 bucks. ($40 dollar late fee and 26% apr). Not the greatest deal, right?

The only resason I called is I noticed some s.o.b. putbank certainly does- Good Riddance (sons o' [censored]es) a late pay on my credit report, She denied it was them- but it definitely was them - my score dropped 125 points, total B.S.

Changing my payment method from my debit visa to my credit card visa
I submit my debit visa #5310 for, method of payment, to play the gsn games, I have used this debit visa card, dated back to 2016. As of June 8, 2017, an unauthorized person went into my account and changed my debit visa #5310, to my credit visa of Merrick bank #4743, Merrick bank claims I used credit visa #4743, starting June 8, 2017 to play the gsn games; in-turn, Merrick bank charge my credit visa card #4743 with them $236.00 for games played. Someone switched my debit visa #5310 to the Merrick visa # 4743 without my authorization.
GSN stated ""secure payment"" How did this fraudulent transaction occur without my knowledge?
I DO HAVE, 100% proof, I did not used Merrick visa card #4743, to play the games, dated June 08, 2017 etc.

I have had an account with Merrick bank for years. I get my bill in the mail every month, despite signing up for electronic invoices and I pay my bill on time every month. For several months I have been receiving emails from them stating I needed to click on the link to verify my account as they are unable to get mail delivered to my address (despite me getting the bill every month). I did not click on the link I assumed it was a phishing email and I just continued to pay my payments. Today when I logged in to pay my bill I noticed that I didn't have any available credit so I called and was told my account was closed because I did not click on that link in the email, who the hec sends an email like that with the heightened awareness of phishing? A very rude customer service representative and his supervisor told me they would send me a letter telling me how to reopen my account. I asked them "so you want to send mail to an address that you say is undeliverable. I was told there is nothing they can do, despite this obviously being their mistake. So they closed my account which will reflect on my credit because of their error, despite me making my full payment on time every month. This is illegal credit practices and judging by the complaints I am finding on the internet a common practice for them. This needs to stop How complaint can be satisfactorily addressed I want an apology from company and my account reopened. I never intend to use the account again, but this should be reflected on my credit report
worst bank ever
I had my account with advanta bank which was bought out by Merrick in 2010. I never received anymore statements. I called with my concerns only to find i was charged late fees. They refused to send me paper statements. They refused to sign me up for online payments and wanted to charge me $10 for phone payments. I paid off my balance. I asked to close my account and delete my personal information and they refused! Why do they still need my SS#? Do not bank with these people. I had no choice but you still do.Very shady!

When my father died, my mother lost half of her income. She called all her credit cards and worked out payment plan she could afford and slowly paid every card off. Every card except for Merrick.
They absolutely refused to work with her. They were horribly rude and treated her like she was some kind of criminal. She has been doing her best and slowly paying on it, but they weren't satisfied. Now they are suing her for 5, 000 over a 500 balance. She the most hardworking person and educator. They disgust me and I can guarantee they will never see a penny from me or any of my friends.

Every 15 of the month I get my monthly statement, I send the payment out the very same day, I send the payment to its hicksville office in ny, mind you I live in nyc, so it should only take a couple of days. the following month I get a late payment fee of 39.00, the only way they stop charging me that 39.00 is that I started sending it usps priority mail with delivery confirmation. that way I got proof that they received it early. when I got the card issued its apr rate was 9.7 totally reasonable right, then it went up to 17.9, now with the so called late fees it shot up to 32 percent that when I contacted my attorney who negotiated with them to bring the total balance from 1200.00 to 275.00 which I immediately paid and canceled my account. merrick bank are a bunch of thieves good riddance.

I have had a credit card with Merrick Bank for over a year - I have never been late. My company closed and the company I worked for owed me over a month's pay. This company started calling me yesterday (Cardholder Mana, my caller id shows they called 5 times today and it won't register how many yesterday (because they called 5 today and it only goes back to the last 10 calls). They are labeled Cardholder Mana... now, I have never talked to them (because I didn't know who they were) and they have never left a message... I talked to them today and they told me that I was 9 days late but that I was being reported as 60 days late. I am not. They are going by my last pay date, which was early and even if it wasn't as of tomorrow - it still wouldn't be 60 days (the date due is being listed as of 8/07/08). Would anyone out there really believe that if I was 60 days late they would wait until yesterday to call for a credit card payment?

Yes, they are a scam. they changed my account number on a card that I never had. they are now saying they are not using visa anymore so any merrick bank card with visa has been blocked and you cant use it. you can only pay your bill. that is a breach of contract. I will cancel. they were involved in millions of dollars of stolen identity. the online scams could have been avoided. I am done with merrick bank.

I've had one for years but I got my card at a time I was rebuilding credit. Some 20 years later I have very good credit - have always paid all my bills on time - but for some reason, that is not rewarded by Merrick.
Interest rates continually increase and their fees and procedures are excessive compared to other banks. My opinion - avoid at all costs.
Merrick Bank is a total scam. It is not a real credit card offer.
