We have chosen to write about The TEFL Academy only because they have chosen to lock horns with an impartial TEFL reviews website - Trusted TEFL Reviews.
A few months ago, Trusted TEFL Reviews received a review of The TEFL Academy, written by Catriona Maria.
The review was stuffed full of marketing language - containing a link to a third-party website, where Caitriona earns a commission on all The TEFL Academy sales - and we duly decided not to publish the review.
That should have been the end of that, but Caitriona (real name: Caitriona McTiernan) decided that she was going to write a damning article about Trusted TEFL Reviews, on the third-party website that we mentioned earlier.
In the article, Caitriona claims that we are owned and run by TEFL Online Pro. She then continues to write some untruths about this connection, and we now see that she seems to have it in for both Trusted TEFL Reviews and TEFL Online Pro.
Why has she jumped to this conclusion? Why does she care so much about not having her review published?
Caitriona read an article, written by Ian Leahy from ESLinsider, in which he loosely connected Trusted TEFL Reviews with TEFL Online Pro. We later disproved this connection, but Caitriona blindly continues to push the conspiracy.
Caitriona is a Brand Ambassador for The TEFL Academy.
She works for and with The TEFL Academy.
Therefore, Caitriona (Maria) McTiernan represents The TEFL Academy.
I'm not going to leave a link to her website here because I don't want to grant her additional exposure, but you can easily find it with a simple Google search.
The TEFL Academy claims to be accredited by a bunch of organizations, and claims to offer CELTA-equivalent online TEFL courses.
This is a lie.
The companies that they claim accredit them are only regulatory bodies - regulatory bodies just recognized within the United Kingdom.
Not one of their courses is CELTA-equivalent.
It is a scam and the general public should understand that this company should be avoided for this reason and because they behave more like a mafia family than a reputable TEFL certification company.
If you wish to teach English in the UK then The TEFL Academy certificate might work for you. Choose anywhere outside of the UK and you will soon find out that the "CELTA-equivalent" claim is a total lie.
Here is an article, published on Trusted TEFL Reviews, that is related to this complaint:
