The TEFL Academy (TTA) https://www.theteflacademy.com/ has a really nice website and they make a whole load of bold claims - claims that I fell for.

The company claims, among other things, that:

1. Its TEFL certificates are internationally recognized.

2. It is the number one TEFL course provider in the world.

3. It runs on-site courses around the world.

4. Finding a job with The TEFL Academy certificate is easy because the company helps with job assistance/placement.

5. Its courses are excellent.

As a recent customer of TTA The TEFL Academy, I would like to be given the opportunity to have my say and give my honest opinion.

1. Its TEFL certificates are not internationally recognized. I have applied to English language schools in Ireland and Malta and every school that I applied to specifically stated that this program's certificates are not recognized by them.

2. How can it be the number one TEFL course provider in the world? It's like saying that Burger King is the number one burger restaurant in the world.

3. The TEFL Academy (TTA) is based in Ireland and in Brighton, England. It has no other centers in any other countries. What it does have are affiliate schools that will charge you through the nose if you decide to sign up for a TEFL Academy course in say Australia. The on-site TEFL program will accept you and The TEFL Academy gets a finder's fee. I know this because I'm in contact with other disgruntled TEFL Academy graduates in a private Facebook group and some of the members fell for this scam.

4. There is no job assistance or job placement.

5. The course was kind of meh. Wasn't the worse, wasn't the best. The course was full of typos and grammar errors.

And lastly, when I completed the course, The TEFL Academy kept badgering me to leave a positive review on their Facebook page/Trust Pilot/Go Abroad/Go Overseas. The company literally bribed me by writing that if I wrote a 5-star review then I would gain access to a free Business English course they offer.

The TEFL Academy (TTA) offers poor TEFL training with no ongoing support and the majority of their customer reviews are obviously paid for by their graduates who did decide to grab a free Business English course from them.

Please avoid this company.

The TEFL Academy (TTA) is one that you should definitely avoid.

Its courses are overpriced and you won't be able to use the TEFL certificate for any of the reputable English language centers.

If you want to teach for a dodgy school, The TEFL Academy could be a good choice for you if you like throwing down a few $$$.

Claimed loss: 4 weeks of my life and $300

Desired outcome: I'd appreciate a response
