Kenmore - repair of door latch

It seems that every time I have called Sears to repair one of their products in my home it eventually develops an additional problem which Sears REFUSES to repair without additional payment! A few years ago it was my garage door. I called because the door was irratic in opening and closing. When the Sears repairman showed up he immediately opened the garage door and it fell, damaging the the door. He immediately called the office claiming that he was not responsible because the customer did not tell him that there was a problem with the door opening or closing properly! Why was he there then?! Now it's my washer. I called Sears because the latch on the washer was not locking keeping the machine from entering the wash cycle. Every other aspect of the machine worked fine except that. The person came out and for $200+ repaired it in less than 1/2 an hour. Then all of a sudden, with every load, regardless of size, or numerous redistributions, the machine started slamming itself around my tiny kitchen as if trying to commit Hari Kari! I immediately called Sears and complained that since their repair person "repaired" the door latch on my machine it constantly becomes unbalanced. The first thing they said was they would be happy to return to "diagnose" the machine for a fee of $200. When I complained that this problem only occured AFTER they repaired they said that even if that was true I would still have to pay the initial visit fee and that since they believe the repair was more than 90 days old (probably by about 10-15 days) I may have to pay for the repair as well! It is unfair that customers pay an exhorbitant amount for their appliances, then pay another exhorbitant amount for stupid repairs, only to have the repair people create more problems just to get more money out of customers. They claim that this can be prevented by purchasing a "service contract" on your appliance, like insurance that it will definitely break down within a certain time period, but if it does not then you are out your money and still have to pay for the repairs, unless of course you keep pouring more and more money in to empty service contracts for services you never ever need! What a rip off! From now on I am going to search tireless for services from honest repair people locally and Sears can -----!

I bought this machine from Sears two years ago. Service Tech has been out 5 times- After each service that same night when I go to do laundry something else goes out on it. When I call Sears to come back out it is always two - three days later, so I am without a washing machine again. You block a time frame off 8-12 or 1-5 and they never meet those times frames. You always get a call stating something came up and they have to push the appointment back.
Kenmore was to be the top of the line (I was told) by a Sears salesperson but it has only been a headache for me. It has probably been out of order more than I have used it. Sears apparently does not have the qualified techs to fix the problems correctly the first time. And Sears certainly does not have the customer service skills or want --to keep any sort of long term customer. I would never purchase any product from Sears again..And I would never by a Kenmore product again.

Provided that you don't have a extended warranty through Sears you have other choices for service. Go to the Whirlpool website and search for a servicer in you area. You will be much better off if you can avoid Sears/A&E
