Currently my wife, Son Violette, and I have two concerns from our visit on 11 Jan 24 for the extraction of a cracked tooth (#20) and insertion of an implant due to a cracked tooth and infection.
1. We both feel the decision about how or when the tooth was cracked is incorrect and not plausible. The current dentist (Jordan Myrtle) stated that the tooth could have been cracked anytime, even when the root canal was completed in 2022. We both feel that this is not a logical type of response. Based on the number of visits we made in December 2023 and Jan 2024, it is obvious to us that her pain started the same time that a standby dentist, that was filling for De Myrtle, removed the previous crown on tooth #19. He had trouble removing the crown and had to use extra force to remove that crown and based on Son’s experience, in an excessive amount of force. We feel that when he removed that crown, if put a large amount of pressure on tooth #20 which caused that tooth to crack. And with all the visits Son had complaining about the pain, they were all after that procedure. There is no other plausible explanation based on all the x-rays that were reviewed up to that point. We even asked the Endodontist (This when Dr Myrtle finally referred us to on 10 Jan) about how long that crack was there, and she responded that she could not be exact, but it could have happened during removal of the crown. She stated the answer to that question could be yes or no. She also stated that the crack was obvious on the x-rays she took on the 10th of Jan. Of course, we know that she was not going to throw any other dentist under the bus by making a positive statement. I am wondering how Dr Myrtle could have missed it in Dec/Jan when she reviewed the x-rays she had ordered/taken that she now states she can see the crack.
2. Since Son was the patient, she was adamant that she should have been informed about the cost of the implant when asked if she wanted to proceed. She states she would have declined the implant and just agreed to the removal of tooth #20. When I was asked about the bill, I asked if Son was informed and what did she decide, Dr Myrtle stated that she agreed to the implant.
3. At that time, we felt that Riverview office of Aspen Dental should at least provide credit for our copay based on the above complaints. If we cannot reach an agreeable decision, Son stated that she wanted to have the implant base removed and all charges for that procedure withdrawn or stopped with the insurance company. This was required in case Son desired to obtain an implant in the future the insurance will be able to cover it for tooth #20. If this is the course chosen, Son states she will not return to your office for any future dental needs. Since that time, we were informed by Dr Myrtle that she would not provide any more services to Son.
4. The total out-of-pocket cost is $1841.00 that we feel we should not have to pay.
5. We have contacted another Dentist in the area for their service and at this point this is what has occurred: a. Toothe #19 implant removed, and the dentist stated to us that the implant was very loose and infected. b. Toothe #20 the implant was given more support because it was loose. c. Plans on removing the crown for tooth #18 and install a bridge implant for 18, 19 & 20.
6. Her records need to be revied because her treatment started for tooth #19 required a bridge using teeth 18 and 20 for support back in June 2022. Dr Myrtle later stated that she reviewed x-rays and saw the crack back in Aug of 23 and it was there. However, Son has been seeing dentist in that office (4 different) since 2022 and no one, including Dr Myrtle saw a crack at any time until we complained about tooth #20 being cracked as informed by the Endodontics.
So, to recap, we stated this in Jun 22 for a bridge which kept falling out and which led to her starting the implant process over a year ago. Son still doesn't have her teeth fixed and now we have to start with a different dentist and pay more money to receive the same care/treatment that the Aspen Dental office in Riverview, Florida was supposed to provide.
We no feel that we should be compensated for more than the $1,841stated above due to her pain and suffering that occurred after the crown for tooth #19 was pulled and cause the crack to tooth #20. The pain started when the crown on #19 was removed in December 2023 up to when tooth #20 was pulled and provided infection medicine. The main reason is that Dr Myrtle did not belive that Son was in pain at all even there were numerous visits due to the this pain and did lead to heated words being said which did convince Dr Myrtle to referrer her to an Endodontics.
I have contacted your customer service office at [protected] and [protected] where I am getting a run around. I have asked several times and asked to contact an Area/district/regional manager that was over this office and the only response I received was they sent a notice to that office to contact me. I do know the first time my complaint it went straight to the office in Riverview, and they dismissed the complaint, obviously, since it was filled against that office. I have asked to talk to a supervisor in the customer service office and was told that there were none available all 4 times I called them. They would not provide me a number for the area manager or anyone higher in the Coporate structure for me to discuss this with. We are very frustrated at this time and really need to physically talk with someone about this situation.
Please confirm this was received. Also, please feel free to contact us anytime.
