So this early afternoon around 11 we went to ihop in dalton GA. When we walked in there were two other couples sitting and waiting one of which said that they had been there for 20 mins and no one had even greeted them yet. Finally the manager came over and wrote down our name. We had been waiting for 25 mins and my mothers blood sugar was beginning to drop so she decided to walk over to get a doughnut until we could be seated. While she was at the doughnut shop she got two more in a box for my grandfather and I. My grandfather drove so the car was locked so she just brought the small box in with her. We were finally seated after 35 mins. The manager was our server she took our drink order and said absolutely nothing about the Krispy Kreme box at the back of table. All of a sudden a random person with a uniform on cane up to the table and said sternly "you can't have those in here, you're gonna have to get rid of it." My mom laughed, she thought she was kidding. But the women just looked at her. My mom said, "your kidding right?" The women said, "No I'm not, you will have to get rid of them. You can't have outside food in our restaurant, it is the owners policy." I looked at her and said it's just a doughnut, we are not eating in her, my moms sugar dropped and we had been waiting so long to be seated she had to have something. She looked at me and said, "well you have to get rid of it." So my grandfather asked if we needed to throw it away as he was upset at this point. She simply said, "well I guess you can." He handed her the box, I asked to speak with her manager and she took it to throw it away. She then proceeded to yell around the corner and said, "hey they want to talk to you." About three minutes went by and nobody came to table so I walked up and asked who the manger was and it was our server. She stated she was sorry that the server used to be the general manager and stuck her nose where she shouldn't have. Image the told me her area manager was there and I asked to speak with him. As she was taking me to meet with him the server came over and started making a huge scene in front of the other 6 couples in the restaurant. Being very loud, ugly and rude. I spoke with the area manager and I explained the situation and also that we just needed a decent moment since my mother had just found my uncle passed away in his sleep that morning. He said that he was very sorry that it was very unnecessary and that it should have been handled very differently. He said he would make sure she was reprimanded for her actions. I'm simply writing this in hopes that if it doesn't get brought to the attention of the owner from the area manager, that this will reach him. I am a nurse and have been for many years and before that I was a server for 10 years. I have never and never would treat people like she treated us. I hate for people to loose their job but feel she is in the wrong profession. It shouldn't matter what my circumstances are or what hers might be, customer service should be good if not exceptional. Please take into consideration my complaint and make sure that something is done about the disrespectful server. Thank you. JNichols
