This afternoon, while attempting to purchase an annual Black Card Membership at the Lawrence, KS Planet Fitness, I was treated with demeaning disrespectful language. Eric, the person whom I tried to work with while speaking about the membership, spoke to me as if I were a child and couldn't understand the particulars. Please keep in mind, I previously had a Black Card Membership and canceled it because of the behavior of the staff. After Eric and I discussed the membership, I told him to go ahead and get the paperwork. My intent was to sign the contract. Usually when a prospect says 'go ahead, get the paperwork, ' that is a buying signal and means they intend to complete the agreement. After I said this statement to Eric, he scooted his chair back, puffed out his chest, and claimed that "He didn't like the way I was talking to him!" He then began to argue that I could have meant, 'go ahead, get the paperwork and then not sign.' This is false logic at it's best and cost Planet Fitness a new membership. I clarified my intent, in which, he called for the manager, 'Stephanie.' Stephanie came over to the table and said that "I needed to leave, and that if I didn't, she would call the Police!' I then asked Stephanie for the Franchise owner's name and phone number, for which, she claimed she didn't have that information.
I believe the Lawrence, KS Planet Fitness Franchise owner should be aware of this incident and take appropriate action. Treating potential customers in this manner, and especially those customers who are giving Planet Fitness a second chance is 'not' the way to conduct business. Threatening to call Law Enforcement because 'Eric' felt that his feelings were hurt while conducting and negotiating a business contract will not gain Planet Fitness new customers.
