My name is Lamont Johnson Jr (Agreement # 01313 member since 10/2/2016). I am contacting your department because my gym partner and I have been recently harassed by the manager at one of your facilities. This harassment took place in the gym with other gym goers present. This also included the manager attempting to intimidate us with the police.
On Wednesday November 27, 2024, at 5:00 pm (approx.) Sandra Stearns (also a member) and I walked into your gym (10770 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042). After we scanned in Eli informed us that the manager Anya wanted to speak with us after our work out, both were standing in the kiosk. We said OK and went directly to the treadmill. We were on the treadmill for about 19mins when Eli came up to us and told us the manager wanted to speak to us now. I reminded him of what we said, “after our work out”. He again insisted per her orders. I said OK. After we finish here. And told him we got 30 mins total, and we have already done 19mins. He said OK and walked off. About this time another employee came and kind of stood guard. Not sure why, since every time I come, I am friendly to the staff and once I know their name. greet them by name.
We completed our time on the treadmill and walked over to the kiosk at the front of the gym. I told Eli we were ready. He said that Anya had left and then per her orders again, called her on speaker phone. This was on the floor in the area where other customers come in. Once she picked up, I spoke and said that I have no problem speaking to her, however I would rather do it in person not over the phone. Her curt reply “No that’s not how this works. Since you didn’t come when I said we are doing this now”. Sandra stayed. I walked off and started to finish my workout. I am not discussing anything that is perceived to be of importance on a speakerphone on the floor in the middle of the gym.
Eli asked me to come back and out of respect for HIM and realizing he was just following Anya’s orders I walked back. Sandra asked what this was about. Anya said that Tuesday someone’s car was hit. She also implied that since Sandra and I were in the parking lot we did it. We both looked confused, and each said we did not hit a car. She also stated she had video of us looking at Sandra’s car so that means we did it. Sandra and I told her that we were looking at her car because she had just got it back that day from getting repaired and detailed from an accident 2-3wks prior. Also, we told her that we drive separate vehicles. Sandra has a red Camary. I have a Dark Grey Santa Fe. We asked her to describe the vehicle she saw in the video. She wouldn’t. This was getting ridiculous and embarrassing. Especially with this discussion taking place on the floor of the gym in front of others, and with us having to speak loudly to be audible.
I walked off again, and this time turned around and told Sandra “Come on”. I also informed Anya that since she is not the police, or an insurance agent and we already said it wasn’t us that this conversation is over. She replied in a threatening manner “Well the police will be here Monday, and they will look at the video”. I went to work out.
I saw Eli while I was working out and just to make things between him and me, I told him that my anger and words were not directed at him and didn’t want him to think that. I understood he was just doing what he was told. He said we’re cool and that was that with him and me. I did state she owes Sandra and me an apology.
Monday (12/2/24), Sandra and I went to the gym and Anya was there. There were no police, no mention of the accident and no apology. Sandra and I spoke, and we both would have been ok if she apologized to us for the treatment and I would not have contacted you. However, she refused to speak and left the gym. With that I am asking you if this is how you allow a managing employee to behave to customers. And to overstep her duties in legal matters and resolutions? I would like a reply on how this matter is resolved. I am ok however Sandra at 64yrs old is worried that Anya also spoke with the person and falsely implicated us and now she’s worried of a false retaliation. Can this be resolve by Planet Fitness or does it need to go to the BBB.
