I’m extremely frustrated with my recent experience at Planet Fitness. I attempted to cancel my membership before the annual fee deadline, but when I called, I was told I could only cancel in person. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go the same day and it took me 5-7 days to get there.
When I finally went in to cancel, I was charged a $50 annual fee for both me and my wife, despite our efforts to cancel on time. When I contacted them for a refund, they refused, claiming they couldn’t offer any assistance. They also don’t seem to have a customer service department that can handle billing issues.
This kind of service is unacceptable. We made an effort to cancel within the required timeframe, but due to their policies, we were unfairly charged.
Recommendation: Be cautious when signing up for a membership with them.
Cancellations in person at Planet Fitness should be no problem for customersI since their policy almost dictates overcharging its clientele. You have to explain that it doesn’t make sense to them as well. Since they do not intend to cover the refund then file a chargeback through your bank offering an account of your efforts to cancel in a timely manner. If they want to be stubborn you can seek them out through the consumer protection agency of your state. Completely get rid of your subscriptions with them and switch your gym to more respectable ones that will not have such an outrageous policy with their customers.
