My family is from Ukraine and we immigrated to the US last year because we won green cards.

I want to file a complaint against your employee who behaved in a racist manner towards me and my wife as Ukrainians. The cashier with the name Irina D. (she is Russian-speaking) during the purchase first asked where we came from. We answered that from Ukraine. After that, she began to tell me that I should defend my homeland, and not be in the USA. When we asked her why she thought we were running away from the war in the US, she replied that she was very good with people and could see right away that we had just arrived. After that, she began to talk about the fact that thanks to Russian President Putin, Ukrainians now have the opportunity to come to the United States and we must thank him for this. She said that she had been living here for 30 years and had never seen so many Ukrainians in this region. What right does she have to tell people what they should do, and even more so to Ukrainians who fled the war because their homes were destroyed, friends or relatives were killed.

We believe that such behavior is not worthy of a normal and adequate person who works in a store and communicates with people. I demand that you immediately fire this cashier and apologize to the entire Ukrainian community that lives in North Carolina. This is the first time in my entire stay here that I have encountered such an unpleasant situation. And most importantly, I am a former police officer, I gave 8 years of my life while in the service. The war in Ukraine began in 2014 in my hometown. I defended my homeland and still try to financially help my country. People like your cashier, Irina D., don't deserve to get any kind of job at all. I look forward to hearing from you soon or I will contact the media and raise this issue in all organizations.
