On March 16, 2021, my sister and I went to the Stop and Shop in Emerson, NJ to buy our normal groceries. We have been going to this supermarket over 10 years and never had an issue with them until yesterday. We normally scan our groceries using either their scanner or the app.
There was a guy following us around in the supermarket watching us to see if we were stealing. Once we were done with our shopping, he met us at the check-out and asked me if found everything at the produce section. And I said "yes" and then he asked me for my receipt. He said that we did not scan the frozen food items which we did. We gave him the receipt, but he never bothers to check our bags. He then said that everything is fine. At this point, my sister and I were embarrassed in the form of other customers. No apologies from the accuser.
When we walked out of the supermarket, he followed us and said he printed out our receipt. And again, accused us of not scanning the frozen items. We told him to check out our bags against the receipt to prove that we did. He refuses and says that we are good. Again, no apologies. This guy was just profiling us.
This type of harassment is not acceptable anywhere. I have been going the same supermarket since I moved to Westwood NJ back in 2008. I never experienced this type of harassment in my life. The staff need better training in dealing with discrimination. Just because I do not look like you; it does not mean I am a thief.
Very disappointed customer.
Desired outcome: Better training when dealing with other race.

I have that "unwanted / unwelcomed" feeling at stores in Newington and Berlin, CT.I just posted a complaint I misspelled 'Store'.
When I enter the store I feel the front store employees gaze upon me, I'm a dark skinned African descent male,
several store workers, managers included, race up and through aisles to keep me in sight.
Today 3/27/21, I entered the Newington store and heard the manager Theresa, yelled out "Door" as she turn her gaze from me, that was the call that a person of interest is on the premises. The front area staff got in position at the self checkout, at ATTENTION, I took my phone out acting like I was recording their actions, that keep them looking directly at me.
Mind you, I have felt the disdain, distrust the dislike many times in this store especially with Thersea C. in there, she goes out of her way to display her racism. She has followed me and my wife, from afar, even walk the length of the store to observe us. Then she would grit teeth smile as she would walk past looking at the carriage, particularity the under shelf .like some unpaid for item will be sat there on the way out. This behavior is 1005 of the time sadly Stop and Shop is almost all there is.
The employees that follow the managers orders have the mindset that African descent people are distrustful and may apply the mindset to other areas of their lives schools neighborhoods and other store. THAT'S PROMOTING RACISM.
