I, Frances Huxford-Fowler, signed up for a Planet Fitness membership at the Auburn, NY, facility in October of 2018. My husband, Willis Fowler, attends Planet Fitness as my guest 3 times per week. During the past 13 plus months we have been working out, there have always been 2 stations set up with 6 or more spray bottles of sanitary liquid and paper towels for spraying and wiping down the exercise equipment after each use. My husband & I were used to taking a bottle of sanitizing liquid with us as we went from machine to machine wiping each one down after we used them. This was very convenient since we are on a tight schedule. When we went to Planet Fitness on November 27, 2019 there was a new manager, Jake Stein, who was telling several members that in the future they were not allowed to carry the bottles of sanitary liquid with them. They would have to go to a sanitizing station after they worked out on each exercise machine, spray sanitizing liquid on a paper towel and return to the machine and wipe it down. Several members complained about how inconvenient this was. Some, like me and my husband, told him we were on tight schedules and didn't have time to walk back and forth after working out on each machine. Manager Stein didn't seem to care. Today, December 4, 2019, me and my husband went to Planet Fitness at around 11:30 am for our workout. There were only 2 sanitary spray bottles at each station. We took 1 with us, as we always have, and proceeded to do our workout. When we were done we placed the bottle back on the station. It was now the only bottle there. We went to another part of the facility to work out on the bicycle and tread mill machines. During the time we were at Planet Fitness we noticed several members use equipment and walk away without wiping it down. Some of them were sweating profusely. When I went to the sanitary station after using the treadmill there were no sanitizing bottles anywhere. My husband went to the customer service counter and asked Manager Stein if the new rule regarding the sanitizing bottles was his idea or did it come from corporate headquarters. His response was unclear. My husband pointed out there were no sanitary bottles at the stations and Manager Stein told him there were staff members walking around with bottles. We didn't see one staff member with a sanitizing bottle the entire hour we were there. My husband told Manager Stein the Planet Fitness facility is now unsanitary and unhealthy. This is the flu season. Why would Manger Stein suddenly make sterilizing the equipment so inconvenient. We want Manager Stein to return an appropriate number of sanitizing bottles to the sanitary stations. Surely they are not so expensive that Planet Fitness members health needs to be put in jeopardy.
This Complaints Board site is worthless. I filed my complaint on 12/4/19 and have yet to hear anything from Planet Fitness or this site. I finally went to Planet Fitness' official site and discovered I was able to file a complaint there which I did on 12/11/19. I received a response the same day. Don't waste your time filing a complaint on this site.
