I became a patient of Aspen Dental in Rotterdam New York in 2010. I have gone to the dentist my whole entire life. I switched to Aspen as my side top teeth were crashing. The dentist I had at that time did not seem equipped to handle what I needed. I had two permanent bridges placed at Aspen and was very happy with the results. Over the next ten years I went to Aspen for my cleanings every three to four months. So, three to four cleanings a year and two exams with the dentist per year (except during covid). I thought they were taking care of me. I had a few fillings here and there over the years. They had mentioned that I may have to go to a periodontist a few times, but they did not say that I should go or recommend one.
Fast forward to August of 2021. I had soreness in the tooth next to my large front tooth. I went to the dentist, and she said that the tooth was loose, and we would have to watch it. We discussed another tooth, the very last one in my mouth. She told me that I better watch that one because if I lose it that it will affect the bridge I have. More on this later. She gave me a mouthwash by prescription which I filled. It was very irritating to my mouth. I asked if I should have an antibiotic? Nope. I thought that they were taking care of me. It remained sore but not a full-blown toothache until three days later on a Thursday. By Saturday I was in complete agony. At about 10 pm I felt liquid moving up into my face near my nose and cheek. Even I knew that the tooth had become abscessed and that the abscess must have exploded somehow.
I went to the emergency room. There was a 12 hour wait. It started to not hurt so I went home and went to an urgent care the next morning. They gave me the antibiotic. I made an appointment at Aspen. They in turn made an appointment for me to come back for an extraction of the front area tooth. They also gave me a card to call a periodontist. I paid them $600 dollars on a credit card they so kindly told me I could open. They made me a flipper tooth. I thought they were taking care of me. Tooth was removed and flipper tooth installed. No instruction as to how to take it in and out until I complained. My appointment was for 7am and by 7:20am I was in my car on the way home.
I went to the periodontist. He performed a bone scaling. My front teeth both top and bottom are loose. The back tooth that I was told I better watch was decayed on the outside. Instead of being told to watch it Aspen should have filled it or pulled it or root canaled it. I am not the dentist, so I went by what they said. I thought they were taking care of me.
I had to wait until February 1 to get into a new dentist because there was no way I was going back to Aspen. She spent two hours x-raying and examining me. Not only is the back tooth decayed, but the filling was also loose and ready to fall out. Both bridges are leaking. Several of my teeth are loose and there is bone loss. When was the dentist at Aspen going to let me know about this? Long story short I have to have every tooth removed in my mouth except for two. I thought Aspen was taking care of me. I am very upset, and this nightmare has been going on since August. I counted on them to take care of me. They were paid for it. If they cannot provide proper dental care, why are they still allowed to operate.
