February 20, 2019, I was a patient of the Aspen Dental office at 9850 Colerain Ave., Unit A Cincinnati, OH 45251 (patient account number [protected]). With the notable exception of how ridiculously long a simple teeth-cleaning appointment went, I was happy with how everything went.
Then I got their bill. I could see that there was no insurance payment information on it, so I assumed that things were still in the works. I did not do anything at this point.
The next month, I get the same bill. As I'm looking for the insurance information, I notice that there was a $91 charge on it (that was identified as "Prophylaxis Adult") that I did not understand. I was concerned that they had inaccurately charged me for the fluoride treatment that I had declined. So I called (and gave them my patient account number and my call-back number) and left a message in their mailbox (#500 which you reach by dialing 513/699-7070 x3). I never heard back from them.
The next month, I get another bill. I call again. This time I call & say, "You must've missed my previous message. I have a question about a charge on the bill. So here's my info call me back." They did not call me back.
The next month, I get another bill. I call again: "So this is my 3rd message. I don't understand something on my bill. And I'm confused because I called my insurance company and they don't know what's going either because they say you never submitted a claim. So I need someone to call me back about this. (Gave ID & contact info.)" They did not call me back.
The next month, I get a This Is Your Final Notice bill, and I call that office with my hair on fire: "How dare you send me a final notice bill when I have been trying to get ahold of you for months! I have a simple question that I'm trying to get an answer to. (Gave info & call-back number). I'm about to go on vacation, but if I get back and you've sent me to collections, I'm going to march into that office and make the biggest scene you have ever witnessed. Call. Me. Back." They did not call me back.
By the way, the phone number that I have been giving them—with each message—is my cell phone, which I have with me all the time even on vacation. I will happily provide my cell phone records to prove that they never called me back!
I get back, and sure enough, I have collections notice from Computer Collections, Inc. I am furious! Since I cannot get anyone at that office to return my phone calls, I'm trying to appeal to someone in authority who has the power to do something about this.
I expect my account to be removed from collections. I refuse to be penalized for someone else's incompetence.
I expect someone to call me and apologize for this disgusting treatment.
I expect someone to answer the one simple question I have about my bill.
I expect this to be done by the end of the week.
A former patient,
Andra Paitz
