I was checking out at the self checkout machines. After ringing up my items, it came to a total of $26.32 I ran my debit card as my payment for these purchases, it then started going really slow to the point the machine where you ring up the food froze completely. After a couple of mins of the going so very slow the debit card machine finally turns green and says my purchase or debit card purchase was approved. But it didn’t give me a receipt. I called the girl that was watching the self check outs over to where I was and explained the situation. She told me that that particular machine was always acting up and has just done the same exact thing the night before. But I could wait for her to reboot it or I could move to the next self check out. I told her I didn’t need to, I had successfully purchased the items. She said that I didn’t and would have to re ring them up and pay for them. I then got my phone out to check my online banking app and saw that sure enough the purchase had gone thru and was deducted from my checking account. She argued with me and said that I was wrong even though she was looking at the app right there with me. She then tried to tell me it was just pending, but again I told her it was not, there was a pending item on my account but this was not it. It clearly stated it was deducted my checking account and not pending. She again said I was wrong and that it would disappear from my account in a few days. But if I wanted those groceries I had to pay again for them.
I called my husband in from the car and we then asked for a manager. Once he was brought into the situation and looked at my bank account, he told me this happens sometimes with their machines although it always says pending and he didn’t know why mine didn’t say pending and why it was actually deducted, but that it really wasn’t deducted. For me to bring my phone back in a few days if it hasn’t disappeared from my account like he was sure it would and then and only then would he give me my money back or the groceries. But as far as his system went it was like the transaction never occurred on their end, even though it clearly stated it had on my bank account information.
He couldn’t give me anything in writing either stating the situation or mine or my husband’s names, but not to worry he would remember me when I come in.
I’m completely shocked by this matter. To have someone tell you something hasn’t happened when they are looking at the proof right there with you and arguing that what you are seeing isn’t what you are actually seeing is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever been told. I paid for groceries I never was able to take out of the store and then treated like I didn’t matter at all. Like I was crazy for being mad about paying for products that I wasn’t able to keep. But don’t worry it will disappear from your account in they didn’t know when but sometime. My family and I shop there every day sometimes more than once a day and to be treated like this after being very loyal customers makes me very angry.
I have never had such horrible customer service in my life. Food City has lost some customers for good in my book. I will make sure that everyone I know is no longer a Food City customer as well!
Desired outcome: I would like what I paid for. Or my money back. Simple as that. I’m not asking for anything extra.
Food City - wic
Today at 13:08:46 I tried to get food through wic and only grabbed items marked "wic" as I thought thats what was supposed to be wic applicable but apparently thats not true at all and completely misleading to customers. I wasted a lot of time waiting for the manager alex to "go find what was wic items" just to leave the store empty handed and told that the entire store was out of everything I needed that was for wic. I will not be coming back to this store for wic or any of my grocery shopping. Foods should not be labeled "wic" if you're not going to allow it to be paid for through wic. This is the 3rd time I have encountered this problem with this location and it's nobodys fault but the stores. I have bought those items specifically through wic for 5 years now and I know they are covered by wic. I felt like the manager alex was just making excuses blaming the computer system but clearly this is a problem with this store for false advertising. I will be writing a bad review on every website I can about my experience because as I said before this has already happened more than once.
