Ulta Beauty - No service because I'm black

Ultra Beauty

Lake Jackson TX

My names are Rose Goodman, I went to Ultra Beauty Store in Lake Jackson, Texas this is what happened

Ultra Beauty to have your employee's tell me, "I don't have anyone to do your people makeup. To have your employee tell me someone else has to help you, I don't do your kind of makeup. To ⁵have your employee ask me before I find your color, can you afford this kind of makeup. It's Estée Lauder & it's $48. To have your employees stop helping me & tell me if I want to put foundation on my face I could cause she has helped a paying customer (a white lady) & tells this lady I can't afford this makeup (look at cameras you see) to have your employee lisper & say, we don't do their kind of makeup. To have your employees pass me around to 3 different people because no one wanted to help me because I'm black! I left store & realize I didn't get the other 2 employees names. The 1st lady who pass me off also check me out so I got her name. So I go back in the store & one of the employees name I didn't get see me & say we don't do refund I said, I'm rose I'm looking for some sponges, what's your name (she told me her name so as she's walking your employee says our sponges are expensive the dollar store has some.

I don't understand how this company advertise product for everyone to wear no matter what their color is but your employee’s only services one color"white" your employee’s disrespected me & mistreated me because I'm black. Your employee's assume that a black woman couldn't afford Estée Lauder or any foundation in your store. They are wrong! Your employees assume that this black woman was just going to leave the store & not purchase anything after their rude, nasty behavior towards me. They are wrong!. The way your employees address me today let me know that I'm not the 1st black person they disrespected at this location. Your employees assume that I wasn't going to do anything about their discriminating behavior towards me. They are wrong! My name is rose Goodman & no human being deserve to be disrespected because of the color of their skin.

Desired outcome: Need someone from Corporate to call me

I too was discriminated against at an ulta beauty in tucson arizona. They followed me around and I had 6 employees keep hounding me asking me if I needed help. They weren't even asking any other customers but me and I'm the only black person. Then when I confront a worker and ask her why is everyone targeting me her voice gets shakey and she catches an attitude and say I'm doing my job. It's like super obvious 🙄 I'm not dumb to what they were doing. They targeted me as soon as I came in the store and every employee followed me around until I got fed up and left. And when I told the person at the counter she already knew what I was talking about cause the employees were talking about me on the headsets. I want this company to pay for its discrimination. I challenge any black person of color to shop there and I bet they give you the same discrimatory treatment

Hi Rose,

You didn't deserve this treatment. You should call a lawyer and file a discrimination lawsuit. Their behavior was disgusting and they should definitely not be in customer service - or working with the public with their blatant racist attitudes.

After hearing your story, I don't even want to bother with Ulta anymore - Sephora is a few stores down from them in the mall - I may start going there instead. Thanks for sharing!
