On 10/18/2023 I dropped my wife's Mercedes Benz GLK 350 off to get an oil change. The oil change was completed invoice number [protected]. I drove the vehicle home with no issue, over the next few days we began to notice oil but didn't think it was from our car never having any mechanical issues in the past. However, when we were having the headlights changed out the gentlemen called us over to take a look at the engine, it was completely covered in oil coming from the oil filter. The car at that point was half full of oil, not enough to cause damage to the engine but the problem had to be fixed. We called Jiffy Lube in Waxahachie Texas and they said to bring it over and they'd repair it, they would not pay for a tow if one was needed. We brought the ca over and they admitted that they had failed to place the o-ring on the oil filter which had caused this problem. The GM said they would fix it, we watched as 6 or more cans of engine degreaser were applied to the car as they laughed about the incident. Then they blew compressed air into the engine trying to remove more oil. I mean air filtration tubes made of filtration fabrics were covered the main serpentine belt was covered the engine firewall was covered, and the entire engine was covered in oil and degreaser, without even asking the car was whipped down the road with a statement that this was the best they could do.
The car died last night on the freeway a complete engine failure, the serpentine belt was destroyed for oil and degreaser and the belt came lose due to this and pulled the main coolant hose off the engine block draining all the coolant, I contacted CARMAX roadside assistance and told them what had happened and they said this wasn't the correct repair procedure it is currently at a CARMAX service center and the repair cost so far is over $1000 the belt should have been removed the engine should have been steam cleaned dried complete and new belts installed all filtration hoses replaced and anything effcted by oil should have been cleaned to preloss of repalced. The invoice they have for us has info needed a bad telephone number and it doesn't have the return visit with the repairs list. Its common practice for the franchise to simply not fill out the invoices properly. I am an insurance adjuster and have been for 30 years this is a liability issue with multiple problems and a complete process failure with people performing repairs that aren't qualified I am still waiting for the franchise manager to contact me and I;ve reached out t LUKE BYERLY the current president of the organization
Claimed loss: Pay for the repairs and warrantee the repay or pay for the car and we keep it
Desired outcome: The car is meticulously maintained. Compensation for the repairs and if a guarantee cannot be issued Jiffy Lube pay off my car and I retain it.
