Mixed Review: Valor Fireplaces - Great When They Work, But Design Can Cause Issues
Valor fireplaces are pretty good, but sometimes they don't work right. The tech guys have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what's wrong because of the way they're designed. But when they do work, they're really great.
Valor Fireplace Review: Disappointing Performance and Lack of Support
This fireplace from Valor is a real piece of work. It's supposed to modulate the flame, but it just won't do it. And if that wasn't bad enough, it overheats all the time. The only time it shuts off is when it detects an over temp, which is not very reassuring. Sometimes it won't even fully shut off, and the blower just keeps on going.
To make matters worse, I couldn't get any support from the reseller/installer, Cooks Owen Sound. They were no help at all. And when I tried to contact Valor or Mertik, the controls manufacturer, they were no help either. It's like nobody cares about their customers anymore.
Overall, I would not recommend this fireplace to anyone. It's a real disappointment and a waste of money. Save yourself the trouble and look for something else.
Unreliable Valor Model: Disappointing Experience and Frustration with Repairs and Replacement
I got the most expensive Valor model last winter. It was great at first, but then it broke after a couple of weeks. I was really disappointed. It took them weeks to finally come and fix it. I thought it was all good, but this year it broke again. It's like they didn't even fix it the first time. Now I've been waiting for weeks to get a replacement. I'm really frustrated with this company. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They're just not reliable.
Review: My Experience with Valor Fireplaces - A Pleasant Surprise!
I gotta say, I had some doubts about Valor fireplaces at first. I mean, I called their number (you can reach them at ***496) and they just kept redirecting me to their local dealers. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure their dealers are knowledgeable and all, but as the manufacturer, shouldn't they be able to answer some basic questions too? It just seems a little sketchy to me, like they're hiding behind their dealers or something.
But, I decided to give them a chance and check out their website (valorfireplaces.com). And let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. They have a wide variety of fireplaces to choose from, with different styles and features to fit any home. Plus, they have a handy dealer locator tool so you can find the closest dealer to you.
I ended up purchasing a Valor fireplace and I couldn't be happier with it. It's not only beautiful, but it's also efficient and heats up my living room in no time. And, I have to give props to their customer service team. I had a small issue with my fireplace and they were quick to respond and resolve the issue.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Valor fireplaces. Sure, their phone system might be a little frustrating, but their products and customer service make up for it. Plus, supporting local dealers is always a good thing in my book.
Mixed Review: Valor Fireplace Keeps Us Warm, But Remote Issues Are a Major Setback
I gotta say, the Valor fireplace is pretty darn good. It's been keeping us warm and cozy all winter long. But, and this is a big but, we've been having some major issues with the remote. We've had the installer come out twice now and we still can't seem to get it to work properly. It's supposed to have a thermostat function, but it just doesn't make any sense. We can only turn it on and have it run for 8 hours before it shuts off. What kind of thermostat is that? And don't even get me started on trying to pair it with a Nest or something. Nope, you're stuck with Valor's remote, whether you like it or not. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this fireplace until they fix their remote situation. It's just not worth the hassle.
Valor Gas Fireplace Heater Review: A Disappointing Purchase with Endless Problems
This new gas fireplace heater from Valor has been causing us problems since we first purchased it. We own four other brands of gas fireplace heaters, all of which have been problem-free, but this one has been a headache from the start. The salesperson at On Fire in Santa Rosa, CA sold it to us as an excellent German-made unit, but we have had nothing but trouble with it.
We're not repair people, but we think that the problem may be in the electronic parts that start the unit. We had an independent repairman and one from Valor come out three years ago, and after two hours, they confirmed that a bad switch was the problem. They replaced the switch, and it worked for a while. However, now we are in a new year and a new season, and we have a new problem. The circuitry parts on its GV60 Mertik Maxitrol, a techie receiver box connected to the gas valve, starts, controls, and stops the unit from a remote.
We purchased the unit from On Fire in Santa Rosa, CA in 2014, and it has been rarely used (only two seasons) since we bought it. We purchased a second new receiver from On Fire because they thought it would solve the problems we were having. Unfortunately, it didn't. If the pilot is lit, I need to get on my hands and knees and reach my very small hand under the unit to turn the left knob counter-clockwise several clicks to get it lit. If the pilot goes out, which it does every five days, we will probably not be able to get it started again.
We have spent hours on the phone with On Fire, in person with a Valor official, and with repair people trying to get this unit to operate properly. We are extremely disappointed with this product and would advise others to stay away from it. In our opinion, Valor is inappropriately named!
Disappointing Experience with Valor Fireplace and Atlantic Fireplaces in St. John's, Newfoundland
We bought our Valor fireplace back in the spring of 2012 and let me tell you, it's been nothing but trouble. We got it from a fireplace store in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, and boy do we regret it. We chose Valor because it's a radiant unit that doesn't need power, which is great because we lose power a lot in the winter. We wanted it to be the only heat source in our family room, but it's been a disaster.
First of all, the remote control is also the thermostat, which means we can't control the temperature at all. It often goes up to high temperatures and doesn't cut out, which almost burned our house down. We can't use it unless we're there to monitor it, and when we're gone, it's not used at all. We spent 6 to 7 thousand dollars on this unit, and it's no good to us.
We reached out to the fireplace store in St. John's, Atlantic Fireplaces, and they were no help at all. They told us we were doing things wrong, but when we asked them to come out and check the unit, they wouldn't come because we live an hour away. We sent between 25 to 30 emails to Valor explaining what was happening, but they never once returned an email. It's frustrating because we have an expensive unit just sitting there, reminding us of what happened.
It seems like the attitude from both Valor and Atlantic Fireplaces is "we got your money, now f*** you." It's a shame because we trusted them and they let us down. We're very frustrated and disappointed with our purchase.
