This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I bought a new Chevy Equinox from Win Kelly Chevrolet. The closure on the deal was stalled for 30 mins. because I wanted the GM zero deductible 5 year 60,000 mile warranty at dealer cost + $ 50. They were not willing to do it and I was planning to go to another dealer. After some internal discussion, the salesman came up with affirmative response, because I told him, I have got 3-similar deals in the past. They showed me GM papers with $1060 as their cost plus $50 as their profit and I purchased the warranty at $1110. At the time of delivery, they attempted to make errors in their
favor (which left a bad taste) and after everything was corrected with new contract printed twice, they still got me.

They switched the GM warranty with the Universal Underwriters warranty, who may be okay, but not what I wanted. They gave me no papers and told me the warranty will come in the mail. When I did not see the warranty, I called them, they told me don't worry it is all in the computer and I anyway don't
need it for next 3-years.

A few days ago I got a letter from GM saying that this is my chance to purchase extended warranty. I thought, why this letter when I I already have it; I also remembered nothing ever came in the mail. Indeed, I had no warranty.

On enquiry which was difficult, the Win Kelly finance person told me, I see you bought it. It is right here. But then, he does not call back to reconfirm what happened. On badgering, the telephone operator said that they told me to tell you that you don't see it, you have Universal Warranty. I got stunned; what is Universal; who are they. Now they change gears. You signed Universal papers.

I am so sorry for trusting them, despite my carefulness on total money and even telling the finance Guy again I want GM warranty, he managed to somehow get our signature on a different company. GM seemed to know their modus operandi because in registering my complaint; GM told me it is your
fault to sign the wrong papers. Till then I thought how could it be? Indeed it was so. How Win Kelly managed it is by telling me it is GM warranty. Moreover, they gave me no papers, because they said those will come in the mail. I decided to go to them before they close; managed to talk to the finance guy, and he gave me Xerox of what I had signed.

Was it a genuine mistake. My contention is "Not at all". Only GM is so "don't care type" as to let their dealers get away with it. Why should GM not provide the warranty when we buy it. Why is it that the warranty would have to come in the mail when the car does not. So far we have always bought GM cars. There are 5 of them in the family and 3 of them have the GM warranty of the kind I describe, but none of the cars was bought from Win Kelly. The latest one, for which I write this web-note was bought from Win Kelly. To my readers, I would say; you be the judge, whether I am a fool to trust Win Kelly, or they defrauded me?

A family member needed a new oil pan after running over a rock on the road. The insurance company wanted to replace it with a used one. She insisted that they replace with a new one and she'd pay the deductable on her insurance. She paid $650 for parts and labor to have it replaced. Well her car starts leaking oil and I thought maybe it was from a loose oil plug or loose oil filter. Nope! It was a oil pan that had fissures running through it and had been sealed with a sealer. She had kept her receipt and went back and raised royal hell and had them install a new one on there. Win Kelly is a shady character. He was county executive of PG County in the 70s.

I did a Google search because I heard that they are going out of business and came across this so I thought I'd had my two cents on my family member's experience with them.

This review was posted in 2006 and I have to wonder if things have changed. My experience with Win Kelly has been nothing but positive. They were really easy to deal with, and very up front. The service department was extremely knowledgeable about my Tahoe. You could tell the mechanic knew my car like the back of his hand.
