I recently retired as a Senior Executive in banking having worked for Citibank, HSBC and Valley National Bank in New York City. My Career in banking approximated more than 41 years. I recently visited your ATM in your Greenville, N. C Walmart location, where I recently opened a checking account. I attempted to make a withdrawal from the ATM totaling $1, 000.00. I was informed that the ATM withdrawal limit was $800.00. I was totally surprised as the limit at the aforementioned banks when I made a withdrawal was $1, 000.00. I approached the branch staff to attempt to resolve the matter. I initially approached Byron Joyner a branch employee. He stated I needed identification; I only had my ATM card as I only stopped in as I was jogging. I told him I didn't have proper I. D could he check bank records to verify my identity, he staunchly refused. As I had my phone I begin to show him pictures of me with Mayors, Governors, and Former Secretary State Colin Powell. The Picture with Mayor Bloomberg even displayed my nametag on my breast pocket. Showed them my office with my name prominently displayed on the door. Still refusal to let me obtain an additional $200.00. I then was referred to Shamika Carter who did not seek to help me but only to substantiate Byron Joyner's refusal to assist me. I then asked for the name of their Area or Regional Manager. I was only given a first name Madison. I had to insist on the last name which was "Porter". I wasn't totally convinced I was receiving accurate information. I come from institutions where customer service was very important. While I didn't have my wallet and could not produce a photo I. D there were ways my identification could have been verified. This includes comparing my signature to the signature within the Woodforest Bank computer system or me providing information only I would know on their bank records. This was completely frustrating, even pictures with me standing next to former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg should have been feasible enough to obtain an additional $200 from my account. The inflexibility of the staff was overwhelming especially for a bank which espouses providing excellent customer service. I was told by Byron Joyner that I could call customer service and they could increase my limit for the day. My response was what information would they require? Mr. Joyner stated just some personal information. My response was could you do the same and allow me an additional $200 from my account? He refused to go the extra step. I can understand if we were talking a large sum of money... but $200 as the risk and you refuse to go a little extra is completely unsatisfactory. I recently requested my SSA deposits to be made to your bank and was contemplating transferring additional assets but this experience has soured me. At minimum I would like you to code my account to allow me to have a daily limit of $1, 000.00 which is in line with all other Regional and National Banking Associations. My ATM #[protected]. I hope I may be accommodated for the future and your branch staff is taught to think outside the box. Every individual is not dishonest. Customer Service must not just be in theory but also in practice. Thank You
