I'm a physician and I have been receiving medical claims payments from various insurance companies for patient services rendered, through Zelis. The payment is in the form of a one time use credit card. If the payment is for say, $100, I have to pay 3-6% transaction fees so over several hundred claims I am being shafted hundreds of dollars. Extroplate this nationally and you can see what is going on. The payment amount is the contracted rate I am owed by law. I did not consent to receive payment via a credit card. We have to call each and every time to their obstructionist customer service staff in Lord knows what nations they're in and wrangle with getting the payment reissued as a paper check. There has been far too much fraud with EFT and I am owed this full amount. When I dug a bit it turns out Zelis splits the processing charge between themselves and a pool of insurance companies, so they all get a kickback from claims. This has to be illegal, especially for the Medicare supplemental plans which are regulated by federal law. I am so sick of this abuse in the medical industry, it is tantamount to pillaging my work. I am dropping all insurances and going cash only.
Desired outcome: Cease and desist! Issue payments in a paper check mailed to my business address. It has worked for decades. I am not participating in this illegal graft and raping of my money.
I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this! I am also. If you wish you can reach out to me at adrienne@positiveinnerself.com. Take care and good luck!
