annual membership dues
Went to my local 24 hr Fitness asked Rep. about my dues. Told the wrong information. That my yearly dues would be automatically debited from my account. Went back and they let me in. Now I was told my membership has been canceled and will not reinstate my membership. I've had my membership since 2002 and this is the way you treat your clients. NICE
lifetime membership dues increased by 444%!
I paid an upfront fee in 2006 and was told I was locked into a lifetime rate of $29/year. Just informed that the price is increased to $129/year. I am so disappointment with this company. It's bad enough they make no effort to maintain the gym equipment, but now they raise my membership by 444%! I'm concerned what next year is going to look like. The worst part of all this is I feel as if I have no recourse to dispute this issue. Ethically this is a clear violation and I feel this should be a legal issue as well.
Please keep us updated on possible law suit.
Thanks,
John.

I am in the same situation as others complaining about the unreasonable increase. Mine has at least doubled and I am one of those life-time type ones from long ago.
I recall there had been some sort of increase to use one of the new gyms, raised my rate but bumped it down to the original one. I believe it was because of some class action lawsuit. Is anyone aware of any such lawsuit being started. I'm sure there are MANY of us in the same situation.

their shower was terrible and it was unpleasant to use it
I started to use gym of www.24hourfitness.com. The first impression wasn’t good as I wanted. The ladies shower was terrible and I couldn’t use it. It was smelly, dirty and mould was on the walls. I told the receptionist about it, but she replied that she didn’t clean this place and basically she didn’t care about it. It wasn’t very professionally and inappropriate to speak with the customers like this.
I have the same problem with the shower room. The women's shower is very run down and dirty. We dont even have hot water for a week. I reproted to the manager and his repsonse is " go home and take a shower at home" . Totally ride and unprofessional.
raising gym dues
I've been a member for nearly 20 years and now my gym dues have been jacked up by 40%. I've asked repeatedly to see a copy of my contract, been told they will send it twice, still waiting.
I signed a contract, negotiated to get a good price. This is not ethical, doesn't seem legal. 24 has absolutely no customer loyalty.
I'd love to join in on any future lawsuits that will surely be coming.
I had a similar experience.
Joined in 1999, paid 3 years up front. Renewal was limited to $99/year for the first year, and then could be raised up to the regional consumer price index. I was charged $99/year for renewal.
Then, 24 Hour Fitness cancelled my membership unilaterally in 2009 at renewal time, and after I complained repeatedly, 24 Hour re-instated my membership with a new number and a new card. (I never got a new contract.)
After 16 years, 24 Hours suddenly demanded $149 for annual renewal, rather than the $99/year as promised.
After I complained, this month -- October 2015 -- 24 Hours emailed a copy of the new contract that 24 Hours unilaterally issued in 2009, which I never signed! It allows renewal dues increases without limit.
life time membership
In October 2007 I signed a life time membership contract with 24 hour fitness with an initial payment of $600 for the first three years and $29 annual fee starting the 4th year and beyond. I was told the annual fee $29 will not be changed as long as I pay it on time every year to keep my membership alive.
Recently I received a letter from 24 hour fitness to tell me they are increasing my annual fee from $29 to $79. This contradicts what I was told when I was sold the membership in October 2007.
Either the 24 hour fitness person lied about the annual fee of this life time membership contract or the 24 hour fitness is increasing the annual fee illegally.
I would like 24 hour fitness to honor what they said to me when they sold me the membership, that is, to keep the annual fee at $29.
Thank you.

Just got my annual renewal of my "lifetime" plan.
Up $100
We just got our bill and they want us to pay $129.99 originally the renewal was supposed to be $29 annually
Exact same thing happened to me - just jumped to $79 after being promised the $29 for life.
This would be a great Class Action suit against 24 Hour Fitness - A lot of customers have been lied to!

increase of 359% for the year membership for myself, my wife and my daughter.
In 2006 I purchased a 3-year prepaid membership for myself and my daughter. In 2007 I purchased a 3-year prepaid membership for my wife. All 3 contracts expressed the same terms and conditions. Section 3c indicates that a yearly membership due will not increase more than 5% from that current year and that a notice of increase would be sent out each calendar year prior to renewal. The increase for "prepaid membership" was vague. An increase from $29 per year to a $104 yearly due is approximately a 359% increase in one calendar year and is outrageous. 24 Hour fitness has not honored the spirit of the contract. At the time of enrollment the 24-hour Fitness staff ensured us that the increase would never be more than 5% on only once per year.
24 hour fistness increase my lifetime annual renewal by 100%
I signed up with $489.81 initial payment for 36 months, then after should be $49 per year.
I was told by the representative that $49/year will be for life and the annual amount will not change forever.
Today, I received a letter from 24 hour fitness that my annual fee will increase to $99/year.
This is 100% increase in annual membership price. This is outrageous!
I just received notice that my annual dues which had been 49.00 were now 99.00. I got this information from the 24hour website. There was no explanation as to why they had been increased. When i called to get an explanation I was on hold for 50 minutes. A person then picked up the phone and said "Thanks for calling 24 Hour. Have a nice day." She then hung up. After seeing these posts, I see that this is a common practice. I think it is time for a collective protest.
I just received my notice that my family, 3 members have increased from $29.00 to $129.00 PER PERSON per year. This is outrageous % increase - I have not seen any improvement in the facility or the equipment in years other than the removal of all the Lance Armstrong signage.
lifetime annual membership dues increase
I join 24hr membership starting with payment of lum sum 3 year memebership, every year after that is $29 for the life of the contract. I just received letter that its raised the fee to $79. Can they do that? is that a breach of contract? I see a lot of other people on the web has the same problem. I am pretty sure that there might be a class action lawsuit coming. So what am I to do as this point. Should just pay it or not?
dues increase for lifetime member
I've got Lifetime Membership from 24 hour fitness on year 2007 for both me and my wife. When I signed the contract, they told me that it is a great promotion, which we will only have to pay $29 per year for rest of our life after I pay for first three years in full. I paid for both me and my wife's due and paid $29 for past a few years. Our dues are September 4th and somehow, they stopped sending me the bill. Fortunately, I did not forget to make payment on time by calling them and visit them. Yesterday, I wanted to make my payment for next year and found out that my dues are $79 per person, instead of $29. I thought it was some kind of mistake. I called the membership and waited for over 40 minutes and failed to talk to anyone. I called the local 24 hour fitness and they gave me a different phone number for the membership. I called again and finally I was able to talk to someone after about 30 minutes of waiting. The representative told me that due to the equipment change and other cost, my due has increased from $29 to $79. I explained that my membership is a Lifetime membership and I been told that my due will not increase until I die! She simply told me that it is not true and there is nothing she can do. I asked her, "Are you saying that if I don't want to pay $79 or not pay by September 4th, just get out from 24 hour fitness member?" and she simply said "Yes!" I couldn't talk a few seconds. After a few seconds, I tried to explain to her that I've told from your agent that my dues will not change and she said "I don't know bout that." and she offer to sending me the contract which it says that they can raise my due. Well, I went on the 24 Hour Fitness website and tried to open my agreement. Guess what! All of other buttons were working, but when I click on my agreement button, the website got freeze. I tried more than 5 times to do this.
I just want 24 Hour Fitness to continue my membership with Lifetime $29 deal that I got promised. It is like the government issue a forever stamp and tell everyone to add more stamp for a letter after a few years. Also, if they increase, it should be a reasonable rate. $29 to $79? That is almost 250% raise without any notice. I still do not agree with any increase, but especially this unreasonable increase is non sense. My signing code for 24 hour fitness is [protected] and my wife's is [protected]. Please help me out what to do.
Please please please report this the CFPB they are the watchdog for the government to protect consumers against corporate policies xactly like this. If 24 fitness does not honor your contract, they will be subjected to a $10, 000 a day fine that goes up to $1, 000, 000 if they do not pay !
rate increase
Just found out that my next year renewal is increasing over 300%. Asked why when it's been the same since 2006 when I joined all they offered me was to get a copy of my original contract that states they have the right to increase my renewal. Poor customer service and a real ripoff. I can understand a modest increase, 10 maybe even 20%. But 300% and no explanation after 9 years is really just not acceptable especially with the only explanation being that they have a right to increase
Yes they are doing this to all their long time clients. I had written in a increase cap on my signed contract in 2007. It has been 45 days and 12 phone calls and never one return call or resolution. If you do not pay the fraudulent increase they terminate your contract. I was advised to pay the increase and file a small claims lawsuit against 24 Hr Fitness. Just bring your contract and you get your money plus filing fees. They know most won't do it, but their biggest fear is a class action. Not sure how many have the includes clause capping the annual increases to 5%.
I just got my noticed to renew and was surprised as well. I was told of the same.Total bait and switch. I asked for my original contract. They said that i will be mailed to me in a few days. I specifically asked for the original contract and they said they have it. We will see what it looks like. There has to be some legal action that can be brought against this, because this was not what was not how it was sold to everyone. Even if the contract was true, the employees were lying when they made the sale. This has to be some legal action we can take against the company. Just like how the banks were fines heavily for action of a few as they have claim.
Same thing happened to me. I used to paid yearly annual renewal $49.00 since 2006 and now I was told that I my renewal going to be $99.00 and yes I were told the same they have the right to increase rate.
membership cancellation issues
The 24 Hour Fitness Club where I was a member for 26 years moved from the building where I joined originally, to what was previously a QFC Grocery store building. This was also a move that put the club another 3 miles further away from my residence down a road that is exceptionally clogged with traffic at workout time.
I tried to cancel my membership IN PERSON at the club. They said that this was not possible. I was required to call into their business center to cancel. After being put on hold for just shy of 20 minutes with the most obnoxious, screeching, hotel lobby type music playing in my ear I finally hung up.
I tried again at a later time, and got through to a human. They cancelled my original account, but they would not cancel the account that I was paying for with my bank, but the account name was in the name of a girlfriend from 9 years ago. They said that I would have to get her to cancel the account. Really? She lives in New Jersey as far as I know and I live in Washington State. I don't have a clue on how to get in touch with her.
24 Hour Fitness will not cancel my account coming from my checking because they have the debit card number in their system and not my checking account number. I explained that this debit number has changed probably 5 times since 2005 due to a co-worker's stolen Laptop with financial info on board, The Target fiasco, and me just letting my debit card get sucked back into the machine twice due to distractions. Not a member friendly establishment unless you are trying to OPEN a membership.

Swimming Pool @ 24 hour fitness center in Camarillo, CA. Disgusting...thats all I have to say about that...how can staff walk right past this on an everyday basis and think that's ok. I wouldn't touch that water with a 10 ft pole!
membership termination & racism
24 Hour Fitness has been my home/ club for over a year now. The members are super friendly and I love helping them out with their training every now and then. I am a personal trainer so I decided to apply for a personal training job at my 24 Hour fitness club. I got the personal training job but ended up living after a month in the position to finish my school. I continue to give the club members free wellness pointers whenever I am training at the gym.
Since my club is predominantly Caucasian with handful of minorities, the fitness manager seems to be fine whenever I have a white guy/female as my training partner. I decided to train with one of my African American friend, who also works at the club and fitness manager was very upset and they club ended up terminating my membership. I asked the club manager why my membership was revoke but he was unable to give me a honest response. I want them to refund me my $300 membership fee or I am suing them asap for racism and wrongful termination of membership. Enough is enough!
24 hr Fitness is very anti non white and anti military veteran. Just ask the military hating white guy, Andy Meyers, who is a trainer at the Irvine Market Place 24 hr Fitness. This white member started c*** with me and i complained to Andy and it seems like he didnt care. I think he didnt care because i am asian. So i told him that people like him was the reason i didnt reenlist in the Marine Corps. Andy kicked me out for exercising my freedom of speech.
So, what did he say was the reason? It seems you've left out some details. If they really did revoke your membership there has to be a good reason. Frankly, I 've never heard of it. Fess up.
membership cancellation
I called the club where my son is a member to cancel his membership as he is moving out of town. The manager gave me the 866 number to call, but said that most people find it easier to come in to the club as the 866 number doesn't work very well. I called the number and, after a 20 minute wait the line went dead. I then made two trips to the club, both times I was told that there was nobody there who was authorized to accept cancellations and I would have to come back. I called the 866 number again, a recording said that they were closed (Saturday, mid-day). What a joke of an organization.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am with you on this one Norm, this organization is beyond a joke. The club I was training at terminated my membership because I was giving people free effective fitness and nutrition after their pathetic inexperienced personal trainers failed miserably to help members achieve their fitness goals. They refused to issue me a refund after I pent 30 on hold on that BS 866 number. This organization has forgotten that they are in a service industry which success relies heavily on word of mouth. I switch my gym to LA Fitness and this organization are treating me like a king right now. I am taking my case to better business bureau and possibly a law suit if I don't get my refund from them in the next couple of days. Oh by the way I forgot to mention the rating that I have in store for them on Yelp, Facebook and any other rating site I can get my hands on. I will chose a death penalty over recommending this gym to any one I come in contact with human or animal.
security
On Monday, May 28, 2012. I went to the gym to do my daily workout. I went to use the digital lockers in the middle of the gym, when i finished my workout, i noticed by new cell phone was gone. (stolen) This is the issue i have with West Lancaster, 24 hours. About three weeks ago a friends of mine had a brand new cell phone, he put it in the locker and after we place racquetball and went back to the locker his backpack was open and the phone was gone. I know of other people that it happened to as well. So, this is the issue, I often forget which locker i put my belongings in. I go to the front desk and without asking me to log in, or see my ID. i tell them i cant remember which locker i put my stuff in. The associate opens any locker i tell them to open. Problem. I ask if there is cameras covering this area, since they cover everywhere else except the locker room, and nobody can answer the question, o you have to speak to the manager. (Really now !) so, i call again today, and he tells me no camera, so, nobody can tell me that... Then about three Weeks ago they started to ask for your name and log in if you forget the code to the locker or the locker number and will ask you, whats in the locker. So, i have several people i know there, since i have been going everyday. They all say the same thing, people have been complaining about items being stolen in the lockers. That's why they enforced this new policy. I also called the district manager today, and she said IT should have been done anyways. She was very friendly and felt bad, but, it was out of her hands. She did say they were looking into new lockers and that the camera would most likely not happen. COMMON SENCE PEOPLE, PUT, THE CAMARAS BY THE MIDDLE ROOM, IF THAY ARE NOT COST EFFECTIVE, AT LEAST IF PEOPLE SEE (DUMMY ONES)THEM, MAYBE THEY WOULD BE SCARED ENOUGH AND NOT TRY TO STEELE OUT OF THE LOCKERS...

rude staff
I've been going to 24 Hour Fitness off and on for over two years. The reason I'm still there is because I really like the gym itself. However, aside from a couple of the night staff, their day staff and management is horrible! My most recent sign up was a mess. It took me 2-3 weeks just to get my monthly dues to the price we originally agreed upon. And they like to throw in hidden fees. Anytime I called to talk to someone, they were immediately defensive and rude to me. I'm not one to usually complain but I just can't believe these people are still allowed to run this place. If it weren't for my satisfaction with the gym environment and equipment, I would definitely cancel my membership. I couldn't find any way to complain anonymously on their website so here I am! Just beware and watch your account closely!

declining value and broken items
It seems that 24 Hour fitness just keeps going downhill! Now they have done away with good quality soap and have resorted to basically taking a shower in what smells like 7-Up soda (GoJo). I go to work (I did) after I work out and could count on smelling ok after a shower with the Dial soap and now the soap doesn't lather up and smells terrible. Way to go 24 hour, another way to cut corners for your members and chase off customers! When you ask at the counter, you get some kid who could care less and is just there by the hour.

they cancelled my lifetime ($750) membership
In 2008, I purchased a life-time membership to 24-hr Fitness for approx. $750. (Which the first 3 years are paid for, and after 3 years, the dues will be $29 per year for life). I only went to the gym two times (twice!), then I moved 30 mins away from the nearest gym, and decided to get my exercise by surfing, running, walking at the beach, etc. I just...

Here's what happened, all i wanted was to simply work out because im young and i realize that i need to bulk up a little so i started to consider this gym because my friend said it was good, so then i realized how much is cost so i instead used a 7 day free pass so then i told the manager (who happened to be the one helping me that day i wanted to sign up) my story which was i was leaving to texas as a vacation in about a month so i dont want to get a membership and pay for it while i'd be gone and get no use out of it so he gave me 14 days instead which was very considerate, so then i go one day and its fine i go at about 7:00pm and leave an hour later and come back at 9:30 pm to work out some more and it was fine, 2 days later i go at about 9:15 when i arrive and some very rude girl wasnt even at the front desk i think she was talking to her boyfriend she came around after she saw us and i showed her my trial membership and she said i couldnt get in after 9:00pm and that it was "a new rule" when clearly i came in even later days before and she was very rude about it and she had no manners whatsoever she had her leg on the desk and was scratching it, very unprofessional... and yet the manager told me EVERY single rule except for the fact that i couldnt get in past 9:00 so that is thier fault and i suffer from thier mistakes, this gym has horrible staff WORLDWIDE.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You found out trial membership customers can't use the gym after 9:00pm and then say this gym has horrible staff WORLDWIDE?
Pay for the full membership and use the gym in Texas while you're on vacation.
But if that will make you suffer too much, then you're probably too young to be using a gym.
multiple location closing
I've purchased one of those two year Sport membership deals from Costco. I was very happy as there were many Sport locations around my area. However, it's been a year and they've closed an Express location closest to my house and closed/re-opened two Sports into Super Sports. Now, they send me a letter telling me they will close yet another location that I go to frequently so that they can convert into another Super Sport!
If you look up these locations, they have many negative reviews on Yelp because of "old equipment" and "lack of renovation". 24 Hour's response seems to be "Will give them what they want but they're gonna have to upgrade!". To put more salt on the wound, they also decided to put a Super Sport in my city as if we needed more of them here!
I can tell you right now that there are still many Sports opened in Orange County but most of them are incredibly packed during normal business hours! This is BS! I wished I could get my money back. I'd rather pay less and stick to one gym with less members than many with old equipment and poor upkeep! Shame on you 24 Hour Fitness.
