Air Deccan review: Problems with cancellation of air tickets! 136

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I had booked a flight from Hyderabad to Kolkata online for 04th March 2007 in the name of Mr. Satyen Parida (PNR 1626926) in Air Deccan. Unfortunately, I wanted to get it canceled on 01st March 2007. However, I kept trying on the net to cancel the ticket online but to no avail as there is no option for cancellation. Further, I tried on the customer care line of Air Deccan as mentioned on their website at least 20 to 25 times. It appeared that all the lines were too busy (don't know in what). Therefore, I had to hire a cab from Gurgaon to New Delhi airport for Rs. 400/- and went to the airport to get my ticket canceled. The uncooperative staff of the said airlines were magnanimous enough to write on my ticket that it has been canceled, although they refused to register my customer complaint. However, the refund to my credit card account is still pending (after nearly a week after it has been canceled). I wonder whether the company is up to committing some fraud or is it just a callous attitude towards the customers.

Beware!

I was booking a flight from Hyderabad to Kolkata for 26 Sep 2007, Departure 16:30, Arrival 18:35
I have selected this flight and amount that was showing was Rs. 1585.00 and then i inserted all my information with credit card details also and then clicked on I agree Term's & Conditions and then clicked next and the page that came was with the details:

Confirmation Ticket No. : 3751660, DELHI - BANGLORE 21Sep Departure : 9:00 AM, Arrival - 11:30 AM.

This happened due to some error on the Airdeccan Website but Airdeccan is not ready to entertain any such complaint because the basic fare was Rs.60/- plus Taxes, and the page automatically redirected to some page for Delhi-Banglore Flight.

I requested them to atleast provide some points or voucher so that i would get that discount or difference of Rs. 1900/- approx. when I'll fly next time.

Thanking You,
Regards

I had purchased an Air Deccan Airline Ticket No. 2342473 from Mumbai-Kolkata and Return for 2 Person. While i called the Customer Care, they had told me that on Cancellation, I would get back 85% of Basic Fare and 100% of Taxes. Now, they have rolled back and said that their policies have been revised, and i will be getting only a paltry amount of Rs.225 per passenger per ticket as a Refund Amount.

This is nothing but a Cheating!

Thanking you,

I had booked a flight on 25th Jan 2007fot one adult, one child and one infant by their flight no DN 658 of 8th June, 2007 on the Delhi- Mumbai sector, for a total value of Rs.5302.15. Subsequently I was told that the flight has been canceled and I can take the refund. As per their published rules, they are supposed to provide an alternate flight within one week, if available, but I was told that all flights were full.

Subsequently I booked for the same passengers one of their flight for 7th June at a substantially higher price(more than Rs. 3000/ in excess)

Obviously all the flights were not booked to the full capacity and this was only an underhand method to extort more money. Many complaints to the airlines people (Mr. Sommaiah) have not elicited an answer, leave aside the refund of excess charge. I have decided not to go for this airline in future and would advise other passengers also to avoid such fraudulent airlines

I am at this moment seating in Deccan Air flight 714 - Mumbai - chennai on seat 9F . I found that chairs are not getting inclined. The same was the case about other flights of Deccan Air. This is highly inconvenient. Air deccan must not play with comfort of passengers for sake of price war.

must improve the service as wel as meet the customers' difficulties with promptness and solve them without unnecessary delays otherwise you will not be trusted by anyone because a customer needs service first and the price facilities later.wish you all the best.

I purchased an airdeccan ticket [ with no. 4380800 ] on 27-09-07 from M/s Smitha World Travels.Pawan complex, Dabagardens, Visakhapatnam 20 phone No.2543007, fax no.2590596
for two passengers [self and wife] for journey from New delhi to Kolkata by flight No. DN-702
scheduled to leave at 1650 hrs 10-11-07.

I was given a system generated printout ticket. The print out did not bear any stamp/seal of the travel
agent. It also does not contain the information like "THIS IS A COMPUTER GENERATED TICKET AND
HENCE IT DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY SIGNATURE" on it.

Pl confirm the booking by email in 'reply mode'.

I am separately taking up the matter with the travel agent in this regard.

Awaiting an immediate confirmation,

My flight was canceled by the company itself and was not given any refund when asked well in advance, that is immediately after I received sms from Air Deccan saying my flight has been canceled. Customer service of Air Deccan took me weeks to reach them and I had to be in queue for hours even though my waiting number was one when called at 9am. When contacted the customer service they said money has been refunded. Fact is, its been more than two weeks now and I have not got any refund. Bottom line, Air Deccan is a pathetic airliner with poor customer care service with equally worse in flight services. Overall Air Deccan is poorly managed airliner without any business ethics and pathetic service with arrogant staff. Never fly Air Deccan!

Friends,

I have also been cheated by AIR DECCAN by not refunding my amount on my credit card on time. Because of their action of canceling my flight they mentioned that they shall refund the amount of the ticket minus some Rs.330 admin. Charges to which I agreed.

After 37 days I rang them up and complained that I have not received my refund yet. The lady at the call centre mentioned that the amount shall be refunded in about 3 days time. I agreed to that too.

Fifteen days after the agreed date the refund had not yet reflected in my credit card statement. On top of this delay I was slapped a penal interest of Rs. 1000/- by the credit card company.

I rang up Air Deccan and the call centre picks up the call up after 15 mins. It takes the lady another 5 mins to retrieve my data. On top of that she says nobody has filed a case for the refund. I give her the details of the person and the date on which I spoke to her colleague. She just proceeds to give me the case no. and hangs up the phone.

I am going to make the matter shameful for the company if they really care about customer care. Please circulate this matter boldly in all the media so that the public at large know what all is going on in this company.

Thanks.

Five persons have booked a round ticket from your flights It follows as
(i) TVM to Delhi
(ii) Delhi to Ahmedabad
(iii) Ahmedabad to Hyderabad (4400655 flight schedule 30-10-07 at 11.40hrs)
(iv) Hyderabad to Chennai (4430301)
(v) Chennai to Trivandrum (4430450)

Of the above you have just called us and conveyed that you have cancelled the flight schedule Ahmedabad to Hyderabad by y-night as asked us to get refund. If so how we can get other connecting flights? I find v. inconvenient to me also rather poor management on your part to inform during 11th hour and half way through our program.

This is almost a perpetual crisis with Air Deccan, that your flights get canceled or delayed. I am a MBA student of SP Jain Center of Management and I was to catch my flight from Kolkata for my hometown Ranchi. Just because your early morning flight DN-[protected]) on 27th Nov has been canceled from Chennai to Kolkata, I don’t have any other resort but to buy a costly ticket of Jet Airways by paying another Rs.1800.

I’m flying from Singapore to my hometown Ranchi via Chennai-Kolkata. Sometimes I wonder being an MBA student, that does it not fall under minimum ethics if not corporate responsibility to buy the customer another ticket of an alternate airline and try to make his/her journey a little more comfortable if not pleasant.

Just because the legal channels in India almost beat the hell out of a petitioner who files a case for any such grievance, is it fair to take undue advantage of the customer.

By refunding the ticket money it doesn’t help the traveler because by then almost all tickets have soared sky high and there’s a fair chance that the traveler has a connecting flight. I hope that this letter of mine calls for some restructuring of thoughts at higher management level wherein at least you are aiming for customer satisfaction if not delight.

I am sharing this fact so that, if we, who are closest to structuring tomorrow’s corporate framework don’t take effective measures, then it would be distinctly unfair for the corporate education we receive today.

TO WHOM SO EVER IT MAY BE REFFERED

WE ARE LIVING IN LUCKNOW, UTTAR PRADESH, HAD AN URGENCY TO MOVE TO MUMBAI AS A RESULT WE FOR MOST CONVENIENT AND ECONOMICAL ROUND TRIP DELHI -MUMBAI
ON THE INTERNET('COZ OTHER FLIGHTS FROM LUCKNOW DIRECTLY TO MUMBAI ARE COSTLIER AND WE DECIDED TO FIRST GO TO DELHI AND THEN BOARD THERE). THE FLIGHTS WE FOUND WERE DN-659 (DELHI-MUMBAI AT 5:45 AM)FOR 21 NOV. AND DN-660(MUMBAI DELHI AT 8:20 AM)TO RETURN FROM MUMBAI ON 25 NOV. 2007. AS WE DONT HAVE CREDIT CARDS SO WE WENT TO YOUR COUNTER AT AMOUSI AIRPORT, LUCKNOW AT 15:00 'COZ YOUR COUNTER OPENS AROUND 14:00 HRS.(as we had previously went there in june 2007 at 8:00 hrs and no one was there to attend us till 13:00 hrs as a result we had to board sahara ) FIRST OF ALL THE TOTAL COST WE CALCULATE WAS 7998+5398(RESPECTIVELY) = RS. 13396 BUT THE PERSON ON THE COUNTERTOLD ITS RS. 14700, AND WHEN WE TOLD HIM THAT WE ARE PAYING THRU CASH HE REFUSED TO TAKE IT, AS A RESULT WE HAD TO TAKETICKETS OF AIR INDIA WHICH COSTED US 18220.
THIS IS A HUMBLE REQUEST THAT SOMETHING MUST BE ABOUT THIS 'COZ THIS CAUSES INCONVENIENCE TO THE CUSTOMER AND ALSO DEPRESSES THE POSTION FO THE COMPANY.
THANK YOU

i had booked 3 tickets from delhi to ahmedabad for 22nd nov,2007 by the flight DN 734 of air deccan by make my trip.com and payments were made by credit card. tickets were by the name of dr manish agrawal, dr manish goyal and dr varun monga. original flight timings were in morning 7:30 am which were re-scheduled to 10:30 pm in night. this was'nt conveyed to us by anybody, and we came to know about it only on 20th nov by chance through other sources, which led to a lot of inconvenience.
in fact, i had to cancel my entire trip.
now i got the tickets cancelled on the call centre of deccan and i was told that a cancellation mail would be sent to me and i would get entire amount refunded and it would be credited back to the cedit card used by me. the amount has not been recieved yet,and they do not entertain my query very properly on the call centre.
kindly suggest some method to get back this huge amount.

I have a similar complaint to report:

I had a confirmed ticket (No. 4724711, dated 19.10.2007) for two persons from Mumbai to Kolkata on Air Deccan Flight No. DN723 on 13.12.2007.

A few minutes past midnight on the 1st of November, I was woken up by an SMS (why can't SMSs be restricted to daylight hours?) informing me that the flight stands cancelled and that I am entitled to a free reschedule or cancellation with full refund. On 2nd November, I chose to cancel and was given Case No. 110756 with the assurance that the money, Rs. 5,998/-, would be refunded in 5 working days counting from 2nd November.

8 days later, I found no refund in my account. Another call to Air Deccan. After the usual regrets, apologies and lame excuses, I was assured a refund after 14 days, counting from the 2nd. of November.

On the 1st of December, i.e. 25 days later, there was still no sign of any refund. On calling once more, I was told that the money would be refunded in 7 working days counting from 27th November, i.e. the 5th December.

Today is the 12th of December, and there is still nothing credited to my account from Air Deccan. Another call and I have been told that it will be credited to my account in another 4 working days. So I should expect to see it in my account on the 18th of December.

I suspect there is an unwritten policy at Air Deccan to delay payments intentionally. Imagine the amount of interest the company earns from all delayed payments. The amount I lose on interest may be minimal (so far), but
imagine how much the company stands to gain over the years. Added to that, my phone bills keep mounting, since they don't have a toll-free call number and keep me on hold for 15 minutes and more at a time.

The unfortunate part of all this is that there is no legal recourse, since judicial processes may take even longer. So many unprincipled, corrupt and dishonest organisations exploit this to the hilt.

Air Deccan prices are higher than Jetlite flight and they dont serve complimentry food or refreshment. Even jetlite serve good food with cheap price. When we buy food in flight they dont return changes. so it is the worst airlines in india as per my opinion. better to go buy spicejet, go air, or jetlite. I will never trevel with this airlines anymore. otherwise i travel twice in a month.

I would say that it is by chance such an unprofessional airline is surviving. It seems that the no one in air deccan has a clue of whats happening in the operations. Also they dont land in a "fog" on 9th march in delhi whilst the other airlines have no issues.

and yes , there sms reaches people after the scheduled departure times of the already delayed flight.

also dont panic if the call center, airport people at destination and departure tell you all different stories for the delay ...its normal

BIGGEST MISTAKE I TOOK AIR DECCAN FOR FIRST AND LAST TIME .PL NEVER EVER BOARD A AIR DECCAN FLIGHT

I have booked a round trip to bangalore from delhi (ticket number 6777573). I have also requested the cancellation of this ticket as there is a change in my schedule. Despite of recieving a reference number against the cancellation, I have still not recieved the refund. whenever I contact the customer care centre, they assure me that it will be done in a week's time, but I am fed up of their false assurances. My reference number for cancellation request is 132880. Kindly take a note of this matter and roll back my refund at the earliest.

I had booked Delhi – Pune ticket on 11.04.08. Mode of payment was thro credit card. On the same day I cancelled the ticket by calling customer care. Customer care representative canceled my tickets and told me that the amount will be credited to my credit card within 12 working days. On 26.04.08 I called customer care and enquired about my refund. The customer care representative gave an complain ID No. 154098. On 06.05.08 again I called customer care and came to know that they have registered the complain and assured that it will be credited within 12 working days. Days start from 01.05.08. They are one of the most insensitive airlines. They arbitrarily cancelled my flight from Kolkata to Mumbai. Consequently i had tp book a ticket urgently 9in another airline at a much higher cost. Its been more than a month now and refund has still not been processed. Numerous calls and mails have failed to elicit a response. They callously ignore every attempt at communication. This low cost airline is actually a farce and given the stress of calling them again and again I have doubts I would ever want to fly Deccan again.

I had booked tickets from Jamshedpur to Calcutta in Air Deccan flight 588 on 4th April. The flight was cancelled by Air Deccan for some flimsy reason. I was assured by the Call centre executive that my amount will be refunded within 14 working days. However nothing of that sort has happened till date.

I even called up Air Deccan refunds department and spoke to Mr Suresh and Mr. Ishwar. Each time I was assured that refund would be done in next 3-4 working days but no refund has been made. Every time I have been given a false assurance by these refund officials.

I am very much happy to declare that my cancellation amount of Rs.31000.00 creditted to my credit card account by Air Decan. I made two phone calls to customer care. My last call was made five days back. The customer care representative assured that the amount will be credited within five working days. Today I got the confirmation from my bank that the amount is credited. Although it took nearly 50 working days, but Airdeccan refunded the amount.

Thanks Air Decan.

I booked 2 tickets for 06May2008 08:55 to Mangalore through Air deccan. I canceled it when there were more than 5Hrs for the flight as per the refund policy stated. Its Jun19th today and the money is yet to reach me. I have called up the customer care at least 7 times. Everytime i call them they place me on hold and never get back to me.

Today they say that their systems have gone wrong so I wont get the money back for another month. Isn't there a penalty to be paid for troubling people like this!

And yes, I will never set foot on Air deccan again!
