This is concerning reservation # 648481 in which I was a customer on train leaving Los Angeles and final destination to Charlotte, NC. The train did departed on time without problem but shortly after that the conductor advise that the train will be taken out of service in Albuquerque, NM. At that time additional commodations will be made and the Albuquerque staff will be able to brief everyone.
Once we got to Albuquerque, no additional accommodations was available other than next train will be departing the following Tuesday 1/16/24. No hotel or food accommodations was offered or available. As I was so far away from home, I was forced to pay for hotel, food and transportation for 3 days. I was happy to find out that train did depart on time on Tuesday 1/16/24, without any further delay.
My problems is obtaining the reimbursement for my expenses, I was provided the email address [protected]@AMTRAK.COM to submit my request along with my receipts. I received an email response form amtrak customer service stating the cancellation was not due to Amtrak. Therefore, they could not reimburse my expenses. Are they saying that the cancellation was my fault? Unacceptable and [censored]!
Below is copy and paste portion of the letter received:
The safety of our passengers and employees is our most important
priority. Please accept our most sincere apologies that you experienced a
cancellation of service. We can certainly understand the inconvenience and
frustration this caused you. I have confirmed that train 4 was terminated due to weather. As a result, passengers were brought back to their origin stations.
Unfortunately, cancellations due to severe weather are outside of Amtrak’s control and we must respectfully decline compensation of expenses
incurred with other service providers.
