Make sure to read the reviews before you invest in this companies Advertising Services. We were contacted by one of their sales rep, Candance and I was very hesitant to sign up for services with them but Candace was very enthusiastic about our company excelling. I decided to sign up because she sounded like what she told me was true. We signed up on a Friday night and we were supposed to be contacted on Tuesday, which failed to happen. We didn't have any access to our account or even know how to login. On Wednesday I received a missed call from the Onboarding Specialist, he sent us an email informing us that he attempted to communicate with us. I responded to his email the next day and let him know I could speak with him at a certain time, he said he would not be available at that time so then I gave him another time to call me back. When we talked that day he said he could not help me because I was driving and he needed me to be in front of a computer. He told me that he could call me on Saturday and I waited for his call and never heard back from him. 11 days later and we still have no clue or access on how to access our account. I contacted our sales rep Candace, told her what happened and she apologized, then she told me she would communicate with her manager on what happened to see what help they could offer. Candace provided me with our login information so that we could FINALLY login 11 days later but she informed me that Jeffrey the onboarding specialist was supposed to contact me to walk me through on using the app. She requested my previous clients info to get reviews from them so that we can be rated on Angie's List to be visible to members. 6 days later and Candace informed me she didn't have time to contact the contacts I sent to get our reviews. We are now 17 days in and Angie's List failed to do what they said they were going to do, Not contacting us on our scheduled date and failing to reach out to our contacts for the reviews. I contacted Candace by phone, told her I wanted to cancel our service. She said that she would contact me with her manager (John) on the line, I waited the day she was supposed to call and then never heard from her. She said that the manager extended his vacation stay and he called me finally. He wanted to attempt to help me but I told him I wanted to cancel my account due to the lack of communication. He said he couldn't help me cancel my contract because that was out of his scope, so then he would have Scott Larson call me on Thursday or Friday. Thursday and Friday came by, Scott never called. I finally waited until a week later still no call from Scott. I called Scott and he finally answered, I told him about my experience and that I wanted to cancel my account and refund what I paid. He said they wouldn't do that and that they would charge me $1400.00 for canceling my account. Out of the 9 leads they sent me, only one of the members answered my call. I even emailed some of the members and they never emailed me back. Angie's List has bad customer service and a lack of communication, their leads seem sketchy as they don't answer their calls/emails. I have read the same scenario from other reviews, be careful where you invest your money.
If I could give 0 stars, I would
If I could give 0 stars, I would. This site is a scam. This is from the perspective of a customer, not a small business owner. All I wanted was to look at garage door parts for a DIY project. They have that as an option when doing a quote. I normally dont do quotes because sites that arent up front about prices are half the time, untrustworthy to me. For some reason, I decided to just do a quote this time. The instant I clicked "view matching pros", I realized I'd made a big mistake. The signup process had nothing to do with actually seeing any pricing, the whole point was to collect your contact info to give to local businesses. Why advertise in the signup process that they cater to DIYers, when clearly the point was to put you in contact with local building contractors? I didnt realize Angi was just a middleman, and not an actual hardware company. While that's not what I wanted, I could at least understand that business model (if it were upfront about being nothing more than a middleman). However, it gets worse. Within 5 seconds of clicking that button, I instantly recieved 5 or 6 spam phone calls. Why? Because the legalese on Angi's page says "by clicking 'view matching pros', you agree to allow us to use your contact info for marketting purposes"... Meaning they instantly sell your contact info not just to reputable businesses, BUT TELEMARKETTERS. Normally I'm careful about where I put my phone/email/address online for this reason, I know that some companies make a quick buck on the side selling user data, and that leads to spam. I made one exception for Angi's, and of course, I get bit for doing so. I've kept my new phone relatively spam free for a couple months, now I've made the mistake of letting the cat out of the bag. Now my phone number is going to get passed around between telemarketters and scammers like a cheap street lady. Thanks Angi, for abusing my contact info, guess I should resign myself to never answering a phone call again as 99% of them will be robots. Angi... If youre reading this... Delete my contact info immediately. I've reached out over email already asking you to. Furthermore, reading up on this site... I honestly think it's sole purpose is to fascilitate scammers, and may even be ran by the same people who conduct telemarketting and scamming. A lot of the small businesses reviewing Angis are saying half their "leads" were scams or bots. So if I'm being telemarketted to, and small businesses are only getting bots instead of actual leads... And if that's happening, how do I know the listings in my area are even real?... Is this really a middle man company? Or is this actually just a front for scammers, who want to take money for leads, provide fake leads, and then sell, or use for their own scams, the user data of actual customers? This is a "zero fault" company. When the customer complains they got ripped off by some supplier, Angi can blame the supplier. When a supplier gets bots instead of real customers, Angi can say someone else is doing it on their site, and that they cant control that. All the while... I get the impression Angi intentionally peddles scams both ways for their own profit... It would certainly explain the name change from Angie's List... Trying to distance yourselves from an already ruined reputation perhaps?
Signed up for Angi Leads as a small business owner, I figured it would be extremely beneficial
Signed up for Angi Leads as a small business owner, I figured it would be extremely beneficial. Save me the *** of having to completely beef up an online presence with all the paid listings, ads, etc. However, NOT the case. For starters, Angi leads will send you fake leads. Theres been times where theyve sent me leads with the same names, but different contact information & addresses. Then the extra ones will disappear from my account within *** minutes after Ive already opened them. Not to mention, 3/4 of the leads dont answer or call back, even if you call within 15 minutes of receiving the lead as recommended, and leaving a voicemail with your call back information. They mix in fake leads with the real leads. Statistically speaking if all leads were true and accurate, they still would not be able to match each lead to only 3 contractors as promised. Theres too many contractors out there for that to be the case. Half the the time, the leads that do answer either arent looking for the work the lead is categorized under, or they never even put their information into Angis data base. They buy & sell peoples contact information. The very few leads that are true & accurate, the customer usually tells me that theyve received more inquiries than they were supposed to. This company is only supposed to send the lead to 3 contractors *** per lead, customers have repeatedly mentioned 5, and even 6 contractors have contacted them through Angi Leads for the one task requested. A *** of mine in the same career field who lives well outside of my mile radius(100 miles+) was also receiving leads from Angis that matched my exact leads, when the email told me that theyve matched the lead to only me from an exact match. If they dont send you enough leads before your billing period ends, theyll binge send you a bunch of leads a day or two before the billing cycle ends so they can still make their money off of you per your lead spending limit. Not to mention, they dont respect the lead limit you set. Theres been several times they blew past my $500/mo lead limit with no problem. The leads that are inaccurate, or have something wrong with them, you can request a credit for them. There was a point where they were sending me leads from wrong categories, and when I requested the credit for them, customer service said I was under review for requesting too many credits back & then they would not refund me the full amount which doesnt make sense, considering the lead wasnt correct and their fault to begin with. When you are in the process of joining, theyre absolutely great with customer service. They butter you up with genuine conversations & false promises. After you join, your calls go straight to a call center overseas to get resolved. They outsource jobs overseas to call centers where you cant even understand the customer service representatives with such heavy accents. The amount of spam calls & spam emails that I receive after having signed up for this company, makes me believe that y contact information is also being sold through this company. OH! And be aware that the review you received through Angi leads, they are not yours even though the customers are reviewing you specifically. Angi Leads owns them since they were acquired through their platform. After ending your agreement, if you want those reviews, you have to pay an astronomical amount for them. So dont even expect to get those reviews onto your website without a lawsuit following against your company. Lastly, after further research on the company, Ive found several lawsuits pending against them in different states.. some for false advertising, others for the same issues Im dealing with. Whether you are a contractor, or just a customer looking for some work done to your home, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. As a contractor, youre better off building your online presence with organic SEO listings, a nice website, *** and social media. The internet is so incredible these days that companies like Angi Leads arent needed, as long as youre not lazy and willing to put the effort in to your online presence. Good luck!
Angie's List/Angi's **** is without question a company that should be looked at for its business practices and ethics
Angie's List/Angi's *** is without question a company that should be looked at for its business practices and ethics. Prior to the pandemic I had a $500,000 flourishing company that easily spent $8000 per month for advertising. I did ***, ***, Internet ads, etc...All of which worked reasonably well. Each company that I dealt with was honest and ethical. When the pandemic hit in 2020 I changed the direction of my company and chose *** in March . It did reasonably well. I then decided to expand to Angie's List...which two days after I signed up merged with *** and changed their name to Angi's ***. I was never told this was going to occur until after I had signed the contract. Since I agreed to do business with Angi's *** it has been fraught with EVERYTHING a small to medium size business doesn't want. From the moment that I entered discussions with ***(the sales rep) the experience was problematic.First of all, she in no way presented all the options that were available for me as an advertiser. I was never told that I could pay up front for 3 months. Never told that there was a $300 program available that I could sign up for. I was never told that ***...which is what I do, would be under the heading *** and Remediation until after I had agreed to the contract. I assumed that there would be a heading for *** and one for ***. In our industry someone who test for mold should not also remediate. None of this information was disclosed. I was told that I would "easily" exceed the 10-17 calls that they anticipate someone in this field receiving within the first 90 days because with Angi's list I would no longer be competing with other companies like I was having to do on ***. The people that inquired about *** would only go to me based on the rotation. I was also told that if I could *** 5 to 10 reviews quickly that would enhance the probability of being called. None of this information has proven to be accurate.*** TOTALLY misrepresented what was available. She told me unequivocally that the minimum I could spend per month was $500. (I would love to listen to the conversation) Not only that, she hurried me through the agreement process and ran my credit card that I had provided within 3 minutes of me giving it to her. Two days later I finally show up on Angie's List Website. So, I paid $500 immediately and what they agreed to do for me took 2 days before I was "onboarded" is the term that was used. In the meantime, I reach back out to ***, who had promised to be with me through the process, and now she says that she has sent me to someone else. From that point forward, I have been contacted by ***, ***, The ***, ***, and ***. Talk about confusing...this takes the cake. Further, many of the subject lines in the e-mails I received said "*** Black-should we reschedule?" The name I am referred to as is ***. The text of the e-mails would then refer to me as ***...my first name. This made it obvious to me that no one had a clue about who I was or what I need. They were just going through the motions to get the account handled and move on. This painted a vastly different picture than what *** said I should expect.*** was eventually assigned to my account as my Sr. ***. He was not easy to schedule time with and on several occasions I would block out time to discuss my account and he would be late. For instance, on April 12th we had scheduled an appointment for 2:00 pm. I had adjusted my schedule accordingly. At 2:19 pm I had still not heard anything from ***. I e-mailed him to inquire. At 2:24 pm he e-mails me back and says he's running late on another call and the he apologizes and hope I understand. However, I am a small business and make my living by servicing my customers and do not have 2 or 3 hours to sit around and wait for ***'s schedule to clear. This experience came after an e-mail from *** on March 26th, one week after I had signed up with Angi's ***, stating he would be out of the office from 03/25 until 04/02. He informed me that he would be turning my account over to an associate to discuss my frustrations. I think *** was the individual I talked with next. I told him about all that *** and I had done to date and while not outright saying it, he seemed to infer that what *** had done to help me set up my account was not in my best interest. He said that I had spread myself too thin in the areas that I really should be focused on. Further, he stated that while reviews and deals that are offered help, most of the calls are driven by an algorithm. That was the first that I had heard of that. *** nor *** ever mentioned an algorithm that drove leads. Needless to say, I was extremely frustrated and confused. At this point, I still had not received 1 inquiry. When *** returned and we spoke in late April, I told him what I had been told and we ended up changing my territories but not without me first agreeing to sign another contract. Talk about confused and feeling like this was a bait and switch operation. Why do I need to sign anything to change what I am paying for? As of June 6th, almost at the 90 day ***, I have received 9 calls. 3 of those calls I had already received through *** several days or a week before. *** has agreed to credit those leads, but had I not been diligent in comparing the two, Angi and ***, I would have paid this company twice. One of the reasons that I was enticed by Angi's *** was because I was told that this would never happen. My presence and payment on Angi's list would ensure that I would not have to compete with other contractors for the same job. FALSE! I have even had customers that I have called from *** stating that they were confused because they had called Angi's list and not ***...why would I be calling? Its obvious that Angi's *** and *** are sharing leads or buying leads...whatever the case may be, this was not supposed to be the case. Completely deceptive to both me and the people calling in looking for a contractor to do the work off either Angi's *** or ***. I plan on reporting this to the Attorney General. This is taking complete advantage of business like mine by double dipping and charging like they are. As of June 6th I am done doing business with Angi's ***. I e-mailed *** on June 1st and asked him how to proceed. He informed me then that there were other options that were available...for the first time. He then proceeded to tell me that if I was to cancel, I was paid through June 17th and that I owed $1750 which was 35% of the remaining balance. I have paid $1500 dollars for six leads...none of which were good. That equates to $250 per lead. No business owner in their right mind would tolerate or pay for that kind of response. Further 35% of $4500 is $1575. Where *** came up with $1750 has not been explained. I responded to him immediately asking for this explanation and why I was just now being informed of the $300 program and no response.I will not pay another dime to Angi's ***. I want a full refund of my $1500. I am not a struggling little business trying to make it. I am a small business that has done well and know what is right. Everything about this company and their practices screams unethical and I will not stand by and let it happen to me.

Do not be lulled into a false sense of security by ANGIs promise to have projects done by highly rated, screened, and vetted professionals, or by the so-called happiness guarantee. There is no guarantee that your contractor will turn out to be either honest or competent. The short version of my story is that the man they sent to power wash our patio didnt do the job, was 7 hours late and is both a thief (our hose with self-retracting reel) and a liar (trying to get us to give him extra money under false pretenses). He also showed up with three or four helpers to do a one-person job, and all of them stayed aroundin our driveway with 3 cars until 11 PM apparently hoping wed end up giving him money to go away. The company offered reimbursement for the stolen property after we submitted documentation, but only as sort of hush money which would have prevented us from submitting this review to warn others about our experience.I contracted with ANGIs fixed price for power-washing my patio, and joined the ANGI Key program for $29.99 to receive a discount of $83.87. My contractor was identified to me only by a first name and initial, ***. I called him shortly before the service to ask him if we should remove our patio furniture or if that was part of the service. (He said he would remove it, but when the day came we removed most of the furniture and plants before he got here.) In the course of that conversation he told me that he lived out of town but would be in the area that day to install a furnace. He said that he would prefer that I cancel with ANGI and pay him in cash, which I didnt want to do because I wanted the Happiness Guarantee from a company I had heard of, and also because it seemed inappropriate to cut the arranger out of the arrangement. He said I would have his guarantee, which meant nothing to me as I knew nothing about him. He showed up at about 6 PM for an 11 AM appointment for a 3 hour service. A woman who said she was his secretary had called about 5 PM to say he was having car trouble but would be there in about half an hour and I agreed he could still come. He came with two cars and a van, the secretary, and at least 2 (I think it was 3) other men, for a job I have done solo in the past with my own little machine. They had a large machine which I heard running for a very brief time. In the course of the evening, while I was busy, the secretary asked my husband for a check for $150; fortunately he asked me about that, so I told him we were paying through ANGI, which had my credit card number. I subsequently went out and told the secretary we would stick with the ANGI agreement. At about 9 PM one of the men came to the door and said they were finished. I had seen that the covers were still on the adjacent plants a few minutes before so I asked if they were taken off and they werent. The contractor subsequently asked if we had an outlet where he could charge his phone. Since they had to have used the plug to run their machine I was surprised but showed the outside outlet to him. He then asked me what I was paying ANGI for the job and I told him about $370. He then asked me to give him $250 for the job, saying that ANGI didnt pay for the drive or the labor, and that he had spent the money getting the machine. He said he would only get paid $180 for the job, and asked Isnt the work I did worth $250? The question seemed irrelevant since I was paying over $370, and also because it was night and I had no way of knowing what kind of job he did. I told him he would need to take up any issue about his payment with ANGI, and he said that ANGI was telling him through the app to take it up with me. He then attempted to show me the phone saying Look, they just took off my $180 because you cancelled. I told him what he obviously already knew, that I had not cancelled, and I said I would contact ANGI in the morning to let them know that. I told him that he should do the work for the money he had agreed with ANGI for, and he said that he had never agreed to it - They just put it on my list. Then he said he didnt have money for the trip home, and here he was with three cars and no way to get home. He said it would be better for both of us if I gave him $250. He had the hood of one vehicle up with a light under it, apparently to give the impression of car trouble. (I might have been sympathetic if he had not clearly been lying to me about the ANGI agreement.). He and his crew hung around in the driveway until 11 PM and finally left shortly after we set our house alarm and turned out the lights. In the morning we found quite a bit of trash left behind from their eating and drinking. In the morning I received an e-mail from ANGI asking if the contractor had been able to provide a service. I briefly looked at the patio which still looked terrible, but a bit cleaner at one end. Since I wanted nothing more to do with ANGI or with the contractor, and didnt want to give him an excuse to come back since he had been so reluctant to leave, I e-mailed back that he did not do a good job but I would pay the $372.02 and do the rest myself. I told them about his repeated efforts to get us to pay him directly and his hanging around with his crew in our driveway until 11 PM. They said that they highly discouraged payments outside the platform as they could not be traced and would not be reimbursed. (They said nothing about discouraging contractors from asking for such payments.) They also said that if I was uncomfortable dealing with my contractor, they would make sure that they will no longer take and be matched to any of your future bookings with us.An hour or so later, I noticed that our hundred-foot hose on its self-retracting reel with hose guide had been stolen. I then e-mailed ANGI about the theft, and advised them that we would be disputing their charge on our credit card. I also noted that the charge on the credit card was for $402.01 and that as I would never use ANGI again I also did not want to pay the $29.99 for membership. I was told that that part of the charge would be taken off the credit card, which it was, temporarily. We disputed the $372.02 charge on the credit card as soon as the theft was discovered, but were informed that it couldnt be officially disputed until it was entered. That led to our disputing it again, which led to the $372.02 being subtracted from our account twice when it should only have been subtracted once. The error was over-corrected on the next statement, when the $29.99 membership fee was added back in. Thus we ended up paying for a membership which I promise we will never, ever consider using. My husband talked to the police about the theft, but was advised that while they would be perfectly willing to come and make a report, with the value of the property stolen being modest, and the other police priorities it was unlikely that much could be done. Since the amount of the loss was considerably less than the $1000 for which Handy required a police report, we decided not to waste our time or a police officers. I was given a link to report my loss to Handy, the related company that handles their happiness guarantee. Besides (naturally) requiring evidence of ownership and of the value of the item, they said Rest assured, we'll take appropriate action with regard to the professional. As a first step, we've ensured that the professional won't be able to claim any of your bookings in the future. Again, these problems didnt seem to disqualify the contractor from being sent to other peoples homes. I went online and found a similar product with the hose guide feature on Amazon for about $400 delivered. Since we had had the hose and reel for several years I asked for half rather than the full replacement cost. Fortunately I had the owners manual describing the item, and a picture showing it in place and a picture of the now-empty place, as well as the Amazon page showing the equivalent replacement item. They did offer the amount of money I asked for. However, I would need to sign an agreement including the totally unacceptable condition that I would not make any derogatory, disparaging, defamatory or untruthful statement about the Company to any of the Companys past, present or future customers, competitors, employees or to any other person, (including, but not limited, to the press or other media). I was perfectly happy to promise never to breathe or write an untruthful word about them, but telling the truth is a different matter. Especially as the contractor had told me he would be installing a furnace somewhere, I feel a real duty to warn other potential customers. Its one thing to have someone do a totally incompetent job cleaning a patio, and then hang out in the driveway and subsequently steal property that is outdoors. It could be much more serious to have someone do a totally incompetent furnace installation, which would require indoor access. Aside from the dangers presented by a faulty furnace installation, access to the home would give them a chance to steal, or assess for future theft, property in the house. They might also refuse to leave the house without extra payment.I suspect that people who suffer losses through ANGI that they cannot afford sign the non-disclosure agreement out of necessity, preventing them from writing their reviews. Other people no doubt pay the untraceable, non-refundable direct payment the contractor asks for and are then responsible for the ANGI charge as well.In addition to the above concerns I found it disturbing that when the work was starting the contractors secretary took a lot of pictures of the back of the house. I let her proceed when she said they were for before and after pictures for their website, but it did not look to me as though the camera was aimed so much at the stones of the patio as at the house. I informed ANGI of this problem as well. After the theft, we were sufficiently concerned about the possibility that the pictures were taken with criminal intent that we added about $1000 of extra precautions to our security system. Also, a few weeks after the episode I realized that a large bonsai plant that had been in a pot in our front yard was missing. We had been having enough rain that I had not thought about watering it in the meantime. It is remotely possible that the contractor was not the one who stole it, but we had had it for years, often in the front yard, and I think the overwhelming likelihood is that that was stolen by the contractor at the same time. I do not have the kind of documentation about the plant that I have about the hose and reel (and the lousy job), so I have not contacted Handy about this. I would assume that, however good the documentation, any reimbursement would have depended on the same non-disclosure agreement that was demanded for reimbursement for the hose and reel. Some of my interactions about this were through ANGI, some through Home Advisor, and some through Handy. They are apparently all connected.Like other reviewers I regret that there is no 0-star option.
