Mixed Experiences with Angi
As a potential customer considering Angi for home services, it's important to note the mixed experiences shared by users. While some customers have praised the quality of work and professionalism of certain contractors listed on Angi, others have expressed frustration with issues such as unreliable leads, poor communication, and billing discrepancies. It seems that the transition from Angie's List to Angi has brought about challenges for both customers and service providers. Before engaging with Angi, it may be wise to carefully evaluate the reviews and consider all aspects of the service to make an informed decision.
I would like to thank the Home Genius Exteriors team for another job well done!
I would like to thank the Home Genius Exteriors team for another job well done! After having our roof replaced, we called them to replace our leaking gutters. They sent a crew out and within 2 hours we had nice new seamless gutters and downspouts. The proof is in the workmanship, because it stormed Tuesday evening after they hung them. Not a drip or overflow. Everything worked like it was supposed to. If you need a new roof or gutters, you can't go wrong with Home Genius Exteriors. The price is reasonable and the workmanship awesome. I give them a 5-star rating.
Horrible. Booked and paid a week ahead, received a notice this morning the pro would be here in 90 minutes. Then received a notice less than 1 hour from the appointment time that it was rescheduled for 2 days from now at a time that doesnt work. Spent 40 minutes on hold getting the run around from 3 different people, one of whom hung up on me. They said they cant guarantee a reschedule in under 48 hours, yet THEY can reschedule on ME in under an hour? I arranged my whole week around this appointment. Why did they send me multiple notices confirming my appointment IF THERE WAS NO ONE LINED UP TO DO THE *** Incredibly unprofessional, do not use this service.
Like everyone else is saying...do not use this service! My person never showed up and customer service is a joke! My event is for tomorrow, I heard from the person yesterday but complete silence today. *** could not contact her either! Use a local establishment.
Will not stop calling me. Setup a business account and have received at least 3 calls a day from them begging to pay for their advertising. Have told them numerous times to stop calling. Went online and unchecked all communication and they are still calling. Would not ever pay them for advertising if that's how they operate
If I could leave a review with no stars I would. If you are a business looking to join DONT! You will regret your decision. They are really good at there game and will not assist you in anyway. Every problem is your problem, not there's.
Angi ALWAYS is my first stop in finding service/repair people and companies
Angi ALWAYS is my first stop in finding service/repair people and companies. Please note that most of negative BBB reviews are about companies people found on Angi to do work for them that left them unsatisfied, not about Angi as a review service company. I always use Angi because they are careful to only use reviews from real people about actual work they have had done. I have NEVER a problem with any company I used from Agni that had good rating and I have used them since the late 1990's. Angi repeatedly has saved me money because I get good quality work done right the first time. That is why Angi always is my first stop for finding services.
After requesting estimates on chimney repair in my area, I received a dozen calls from businesses both distant and having no relation to the services I required. Angi also continued to send daily emails after I unsubscribed from the service. Angi also, without my knowledge, associated my account with their affiliate company Home Advisor from whom I also received daily emails after I unsubscribed. I find this company to be invasive and uncaring in its business practices and would caution others from using it. The Better Business Bureau provides a better and less invasive service.
Angi undercuts the competing bids, by contracting a job for less, then later asks for more time, basically doubling the price to get the job finished, effectively holding the consumer hostage. For example, while I supplied the paint, I contracted Angi to paint 2 bedrooms at a fixed price. This price was lower than an actual bid I got for the same job of $800. Towards the end of the time, the Angi Painter told me she could only finish one room for the agreed price, and to finish the other room it would be another charged day, for a total price much higher than initially quoted. Do you see what happened here? I argue that this is not a one off. It seems the Angi employees are being exploited, the customer is getting shafted with additional fees, and the competing self-employed are losing work. Out of the total amount I paid, the painter only receives a paltry $300. I would like to know the demographics of the Angi Pros. I have hired Angi twice, and both times, the Pro needed double the amount of time to finish the job, and they were both very capable women. Exploiting employees and not honoring contracts with the consumer is not the way we do business in our community. Shame on you, Angi! There should be a law against what this company is doing! Need some class action relief from this predatory behavior.
Angi leads pretend to sending leads and charges money for no service. I have canceled my service with them after being charged money for no service. However, now they putting a collection agency after me even tho i have canceled my account and never received any leads from them, and they still want to charge me money for no services provided. It is basically a scam because after calling a supervisor (***) and telling him what happened. He said that they collect money that way. I have an audio record of the phone call.
Wow, I noticed a lot of negative reviews. This was not the case for me. I hired a person to help me with a big mess. He is working out well. We have filled two 40 yard dumpsters and are working on another dumpster.

My experience with Angi to secure a contractor used March 5th, 2022 for a drywall repair was outstanding
My experience with Angi to secure a contractor used March 5th, 2022 for a drywall repair was outstanding. I had multiple contractors reach out within 48 hours, yet had my project fairly priced and professionally completed within less than 24 hours of my submitted request. The company used, The Drywall Fixer, was truly spectacular, and using the Angi app for communication and payment made me feel extra secure and protected in case anything experienced by the contractor was not to my desired standard. I am completely happy with this Angi experience and am grateful for the company's contractual service and overwatch of my project related activities.
As a contractor, we would call the leads within minutes to find out the majority of the leads never answer the phone or return voice messages. The other common response if they don't need your services and act like why are you calling. We tried out $1,500 worth of leads to not get one job. Total Scam. Do not use as a lead source generation tool. Not to mention, their customer service could not care less and never do anything to inquire or even try to make right.
As a small business, I started receiving calls from Angie's list. I advised them I was not interested. They continued to call and harass me about the services they offered. I continually told them NO I am not interested... I was adamant I was not interested. Then they started sending me statements for leads I never received and/or NEVER requested. I called several times they said they would take care of it, but they never did. Now I am receiving collection calls. I called Angie's List, I spoke to a representative with no ID number and he said I was not able to speak to a supervisor because I did not have an account with them. He would not give me his ID because he said he did not know who I was, after I told him my situation. This customer service agent was extremely rude and unwilling to help. I called back and pretended to have an account got a hold of a supervisor and she, despite being a supervisor, said she could not help me since my account was already sent to collections. She said I had to call the collection agency and talk to them about the bill that Angie's List issued. What a joke! Please be aware and stay away from these people. It is a scam and they will not help in any way.
I contacted 4 different contractors for my roof through Angi and got absolutely no replies from any of them, not even to say they can't come out/are too busy...NOTHING AT ALL! Waited 4 days before consulting *** Won't ever use Angi again,,, waste of my time!
We used Angi to find both a house inspector and an appraiser. They were both thorough, affordable, and very professional. We have already referred them to two of our friends.

Wonderful! Please see review submitted: All 5 Stars for Excellent, plus the following description of relationship with this fantastic contractor:
"Jim and his business partner, Bob, are the best contractors we have ever worked with. This is saying a lot since I'm 75 and my husband is 83, and we've had a lot of contractors help us with home projects over the decades. Thoughtful, reliable, prompt, pleasant to work with. From start to finish, the best -- actually, before starting! This job was very important to us -- we have mobility issues, and our new home had very steep steps that we needed to be made shorter so we wouldn't fall. When we were contacting contractors for this job, Jim replied promptly. But he did more than that, he answered every one of our many questions thoughtfully, and he added safety information that we weren't aware of, information that turned out to be critical for us. Jim always kept in touch, according to the timeline he promised, during the window when we were setting up the schedule for the job. When the job started, Jim and his crew were always on time, they cleaned up spotlessly at the end of each day, and they checked as the job went along to make sure it was in line with what we needed because they understood how important it was for us. This job was a bit problematic because of odd features of our older Broad Ripple house. A total pleasure to work with such reliable, skilled, pleasant, and kind professionals. We love our new stairs! We are looking forward to calling on Jim and Bob and James in the future. Dianne & Clyde Flowers"
Since adding a second human to the house, we frequently have grandparents and other family coming for a visit
Since adding a second human to the house, we frequently have grandparents and other family coming for a visit. There isn't enough time in the day to change diapers AND making the house visitor-ready. *your companyis our reliable, go-to local company to get things spotless and dust-free! Our last visit was no different; the kitchen appliances are stainless again, minus the tiny handprints and water marks, the toilets glisten (tempted to give our son a bath in there they're so clean looking!) and somehow they magically fluff the carpet so it feels new again- it looks more cozy than a mattress! No more dust, grime, splotches or splashes. As always, thank you for another job well done!
You Get What You Pay For
The adage "You get what you pay for" rings true with MF Construction. When we were in the market for a general contractor to build our two-bedroom/two-bath ADU in San Marino, we interviewed several general contractors. Mike Maman of MF Construction was one of them. Mike showed us several of his projects as well as his own custom home. We were extremely impressed with the end results. After reviewing several competitive bids, we selected Mike because of his 40+ years of experience in building high-quality homes.
During the construction of our ADU, Mike was just a text or phone call away. He kept us informed of upcoming events and visited our job site almost daily, sometimes more than once a day. He was present at all 12 of the City inspections. Every step along the way, we noted the high quality of materials Mike uses from the Ganahl lumber to the thick insulation and roofing paper to the copper pipes and shower hot mop, and mold-resistant drywall. Mike uses materials which meets or exceeds code requirements. Everyone on Mike's team is extremely skilled in his/her craft, many having worked with him for decades. Mike is old school and does not take any shortcuts.
Along with high quality construction and materials, Mike is extremely efficient. Our ADU was completed in four months, as promised. Progress was made every day. From the rough work to the finishes, Mike scheduled his team members just in time which resulted in an extremely efficient and smooth workflow. Mike builds with his heart. His passion is infectious which inspires his team members to do their best work. The results are evident in the finished product. Our neighbors and friends are extremely impressed with the quality and build of our ADU.
If you value a well-built home and appreciate attention to detail, you will not be disappointed with Mike Maman. You WILL get what you pay for with MF Construction.
I have used Angi's twice in the past month
I have used Angi's twice in the past month. Both contractors I used were fast to call and hungry for the business. On both occasions the contractors arrive within two days to provide estimates and did the work and completed it within a week. Prices were fair. 100% professional. I have no complaints or negatives about my experiences thus far.I've worked with and around contractors my entire life. The businesses that called earliest needed the work and did great jobs. The contractors that called later were over-booked and not able to get to me within weeks or months. I asked for quotes from about 5 sources, and on both occasions, the top listed contractors were too busy for me. Thanks much!
A Fair and Reliable Local Contractor; Sensible Home Products, LLC
Sensible Home Products, LLC
Owner: Jeremey Groll
I used several search engines out there to locate a contractors(s) to work with me to vinyl side my home and replacing all windows (18).
It's tough to locate a contractor that does both and presents a bid that is affordable. I was very fortunate to find Jeremy Groll, Sensible Home Products, LLC; Owner and hands-on contractor who presented me with an honest bid that not only gave me choices on every decision to be made, but was also very upfront regarding cost and the possibility of additional challenges that may be facing me once the job starts.
I was given a very fair price for the quality of product I decided to use; both with the siding and window choices. I have always been suspicious of contractors, having experienced poor quality of work and schedule overrides in the past. These doubts and fears have stemmed from past experience. Well, Jeremy and Sensible Home Products, LLC have renewed my faith in contractors as well as fair reliable business practices. There was some cost override with this job due to conditions that could not be foreseen until the removal process began.
Jeremy kept me up-to-date on almost a daily basis via text, phone and pictures of the area(s) needing repair. It was an amazing experience to have this kind of support and status updates from my contractor. From the day I met with Jeremy to discuss the project until the day I put the key into my new front door I had and have full confidence in the person, the Company and the crew Jeremy has working with him.
If you have a home project, big or small, I recommend giving Jeremy Groll and his company Sensible Home Products, LLC a shot at bidding it. When we initially met Jeremy showed me a few on-line reviews of his work and I thought, yeah, he could have written those, but I'm now happy to be one of his satisfied customers writing this review. Thanks for a stellar job Jeremy!

I contacted a vendor I had used previously and got pricing for a project I needed
I contacted a vendor I had used previously and got pricing for a project I needed. I was confident they could perform the service but I had no idea if the price was fair. I used Angi to get a list of electricians in my area. Angi offered to handle the hiring process which lets them choose the vendor. That dropped the price $100. I decided to personally contact some of the suggested vendors on the list. The vendor I chose to use had over 700 reviews and a very favorable rating. The price also dropped about another $100.What I suggest you use Angi for is getting a list of vendors that service your area, checking their credentials and then comparing their pricing. Angi just cuts down some of my legwork.
Worst company on the planet!
I'll start with the beginning. I filled out the online questionnaire to obtain a cleaning service for my home. After doing so I was bombarded with calls and texts. When I got an opportunity to answer one of the calls, I spoke with a customer service agent, who clearly was just after my credit card information. A quote was provided virtually, which I felt was odd, it is difficult to have an accurate assessment of something that you haven't seen. I asked if I could schedule a kick off trial cleaning to evaluate the company. An appointment was scheduled for 11/16 at 1:00PM. On 11/16 at 11:52AM I received a text that stated:
?Due to a last-minute pro call of your service has been rescheduled for 11/20 at 2:00PM'
I was shocked to receive this correspondence. Hardly any notice of the cancelation was provided, and I was not consulted in any way to re-schedule the appointment. Call me crazy, but I think I should have a say in when a stranger will come into my home.
The reschedule time was for a Saturday and would not fit into my schedule at all. So easy, I just cancel it right, WRONG, I started immediately sending e-mails and texts to cancel this appointment. I spent several hours writing emails, sending texts, making phone calls, and scouring the website to find out how to cancel the appointment that I didn't schedule, nothing worked. Remember the relentless calls I received in the beginning, yeah now that I had an issue no one would talk to me. All the numbers are answered by voice recordings and no one was responding to the various e-mails.
Saturday rolled around and sure enough the appointment was not cancelled despite the various forms of communication I provided. I was able to contact the service person before hand and inform them of the cancelation. They did not come, but I was charged for the service I never received. Not only was I charged for the service, I got another notification for my ?next cleaning appointment'. I didn't schedule any other cleaning appointments! They already had my credit card information, and they were going to run with it.
In summary, this company is a complete and total joke (to be polite). They are thieves, they are after your credit card information, once they get that don't plan on speaking to them again. If you ever want to put yourself through complete and total frustration and agony contact Angie's list aka Angi, otherwise look elsewhere.
I have used Angi twice now to find household service people
I have used Angi twice now to find household service people. Both experiences were excellent. Each time the Angi system quickly identified several providers. I took the extra step of checking independent reviews online of each provider, and requested quotes and call backs. A couple of the providers that Angi suggested did not stand up well under this closer online research into the companies. But after this process, each time I had a couple of really good-sounding choices to choose from and I was very pleased with the providers I ended up working with. Angi save alot of time in locating providers and getting going quickly--but IMHO it's not a complete substitute for doing one's own evaluation of the "short list" Angi provides.
I am both a small business owner AND a regular client
I am both a small business owner AND a regular client of Angie's List since 2006. AL (for brevity's sake) has increased our business by approximately 25-30% with new customers each year. And when we were remodeling our home, it was an INVALUABLE source for finding both good contractors for my own work, but also referring my customers to these people who I had work for me (if I liked them). If I had a problem with a contractor, all I had to do was pick up the phone and AL went to bat for me by either getting the contractor to come out and finish up the 5% of work they needed to finish (ever had that happen to you? It's SO frustrating!) or putting them in the "penalty box" so that other people knew not to hire them. My business is the highest rated business for the services I provide in my geographical location and they treat us well by getting right back to us if we have any sort of issue or if a customer we did gives us a negative report, they call us to ask what went wrong. These reports typically get put on our record anyway, but our rep always makes sure that we know about them, since we have never gotten a report that was "real" that was less than a B average. But if you have a company that has a D rating, you are stuck with that until that company decides to clean up their business practices.
You people who are upset with AL seem not to know very much about it, because otherwise, you would join and be glad of the $48 you spent because if you are planning on doing any sort of major repairs on your home, you can get very reliable reports. Also, I "lent" my AL login info to a friend in Tennessee and when the work she needed done on her place was finished, I never got my own account transferred to TN. I realize that giving my login info to a friend skirts the AL agreement, but since I hadn't used it to find a contractor for over a year, I didn't think it an issue. I'd rather pay $48 a year up front than get duped by a horrible contractor for $4800.
I think they realize that people can have two homes in different parts of the country, and I never had any repercussions from it. They never got confused and sent me stuff for TN. So to those people complaining about that issue, frankly... I don't see it as an issue. And who would you rather believe? 100 AL reviews that says my business is a great business and if you were a customer of theirs, you could get that info in 5 minutes... or spend your afternoon wasting you and your friend's and neighbor's time by asking them "who do you like for gutter cleaning?" They don't know. Angie's List knows.
I use Angi all the time!
I use Angi all the time! Of course I have to make up my own mind, and read prior reviews carefully, but it is an incredibly helpful place to start looking, and I have had all good experiences. The value of good reviews on Angi is a huge incentive for service providers. Once I gave a critical review, and the owner took it very seriously. I had the impression they would improve because of it.Also, I recently gave a second review to a plumber that looked similar to a previous one, so that my second review was turned down as a duplicate. When I called Angi (and my call was answered quickly by a HUMAN BEING) and explained, they posted the review. This shows me that Angi is careful in vetting reviews to make sure they are legitimate.I used Angi back when it was Angie's List. I love it.

Dream Style Remodeling's exemplary technicians
Dream Style Remodeling's technicians, Josue, Jose Martin, and Raul, embodied professionalism. Josue consistently informed me about their arrival and daily goals. Their respect, thoroughness, and care for details like moldings and stairs were commendable. They worked diligently from 7:30 AM past 6:30 PM without breaks. The final result mirrored a Home and Garden Magazine feature—flawless in every way. A heartfelt thanks for a job well done.
I started using Angie's List for my company in May 2020
I started using Angie's List for my company in May 2020. I signed up for 300.00 monthly (3,600 yearly) contract. It has gone 1000% better than expected. I get so many quality leads I have to say overbooked alot. I have built a long list of lifetime customers all ready. It's only been 5 and a half months and its paid for itself 10 fold. My average cost per lead is approximately .50 cents per. Almost all the leads are high quality. The customers are great! This has worked out fantastically for my company Home Detailing Experts, LLC. We will be awarded the Angie's super service award on November 1st. I tried Yelp advertising and that is junky leads and priced high. Home Advisor is WAY expensive per lead and annual fee. Craigslist is low end customers who want services for pennies. Angie's List customer leads are polite, kind and tip and pay better. I haven't even implemented my coupon features for more leads (getting so many as is).

I sought an electrician via Angie's List for home circuit issues but had a poor experience.
I sought an electrician on Angie's List for a faulty circuit at home. Contacted within 2 hours by a local electrician, he offered to visit after 3:00pm the next day and promised to call with a precise time. However, he never called. I left messages on his answering service but received no response. Over a month passed, and I managed the repair without his assistance. I believe Angie's List should reconsider listing this contractor. My goal with this review is to inform and seek action. Thank you for your assistance.
Angi Complaints 24
Licensed Contractor was not a Licensed Contractor
On Jan 3rd, 2022, I signed a proposal with Angi.com to have work done in my son's room and remodel his handicap accessible bathroom, which included replacing the shower that was found to be leaking water into my son's wall and floor. I went to Angi.com looking for a licensed contractor. What I also found there was an offer that if I booked through Angi.com and paid through Angi.com I would get a Dedicated Project Advisor: "Angi is here to help make caring for your home a positive, easy experience. We'll connect you with qualified and screened service professionals for home projects big and small. And, when you book and pay with us, we'll not only back their work to ensure the job's done right, but we'll also offer damage protection ? up to $10,000 for pre-priced services under the Fixed Price Terms, and $50,000 for all other qualifying services." and a Happiness Guarantee: When you book and pay with Angi, we'll cover your project up to the full purchase price, plus limited damage protection. If you're not satisfied with your home project or service, we'll work to make it right."
My Project Advisor, Matt Zahlmann ***463, told me he had a great licensed contractor that he would like to send to my home and give us a proposal. That person turned out to be Chris Hernandez and when he came to our home while I was at work, he gave my wife a business card with License number 1029414. My wife told him we wanted to replace the shower with an insert one. Matt gave me the proposal on Jan 3rd but the shower would be tile and not an insert, Matt told me that Chris would do the work himself and it would look great. I signed the proposal of $16347. 00 and was told I had to pay half up front before they start work, so I paid through Angi.com $8161. 00
Chris started the work on Jan 10th, 2022, and he brought two workers with him to do the demo. They sealed off the hallway that leads to the bathroom and my son's room and used the backdoor in my son's room to gain entrance and Chris then left.
Unfortunately for me, because I was having the work done through Angi.com I thought everything was being taken care of with permits and getting a shower that would pass inspection. On Jan 20th we got a knock on our front door and was told everything was done and they left. I inspected the bathroom and I can see all kinds of mistakes were made. I contacted Matt through text and sent him pictures. Matt text me this: "I just spoke to Chris and I know he has one of his workers coming by today to fix everything that still needs to be fixed. If you'd like for Chris to come by, I'm sure he will as soon as he has a chance to. I have no control over how busy he is. I also told him to give you a call." My text to him back was:" No we done Matt. If he was too busy he should have not taken the job. I will not pay until the bathroom can past inspection." And then I text him again on the Jan 25th, 2022 and said:" I am not happy about how we got here. You would think if someone just spent 20k you would Check your workers work and sign off on it before telling your clients it's done and what happen to the inspection? City of Fairfield requires inspection on shower replacements." And Matt text back this:" There were no structural changes made to the shower, so the only thing that an inspector would come out to check would be the plumbing, and the plumbing only. Both permits and inspections are on the homeowner, being that the project wasn't permitted, if an inspector comes out to take a look at the plumbing, he is going to want the bathroom demoed to see what was done. You are more than welcome to have an inspector come out, I am just letting you know what the process of that would entail" I text him back that was not true with a link to prove it. Matt then text back this: "James, I am on your side here. I know you didn't have the best experience, so I went ahead and talked to management and Chris for you, and we would like to offer you $500 price concession. I can assure you that this was done properly. I have worked with Chris before on multiple projects, and so have some of my colleagues. I knew the situation that you were in when I got in touch with you. I knew Chris and his company would be the perfect people to do this for you. I have not had a single issue with any of the projects that he has been on, and neither has anybody else. I do not work with bad contractors. You should really see some of the disasters that people come to me with and the horror stories they've been through with contractors. You are not going to have any issues with this shower"
I then ask Matt to please send me a detailed invoice of all work done with Chris's full name and License number. When I got that information, I looked at up the Contractor's License number and found that it did not even belong to Chris, but to an OSCAR VEGA-MORALES, sole owner with no employees. I sent that info to Matt and his manger Max Sloven. I got an email from Max stating "Hi James - We have received your communication and are working through a proper resolution. Please bare with us while we work to find a resolution."
Yesterday, Jan 28th, I got an email from Matt that said this: "Hi James,
I wanted to take the opportunity to address your concerns that you presented to me. Your first concern involves the need for a permit. I reached out to the City of Fairfield Building Department regarding your scope of work, and they confirmed that a permit was not needed. That being said, if you would like to have an inspector come out, this is something you can schedule on your own.
The contractor who was hired to do your project, is a professional and has fully completed your scope. Additionally, when you pointed out an area of concern, he willingly came back to amend and resolve the area in question. The contractor needs to be compensated for the work that has been completed. If after the inspector comes and finds an issue with the work, we ask that you file a happiness guarantee claim.
Your final payment in the amount of $8,916 is due. We ask that you pay your balance before it becomes overdue. If payment is not received, we will resort to any means necessary to collect the payment which includes but not limited to, sending you to a collection agency, legal letter or placing a lien on your home.
We would prefer to not resort to these extreme measures, but the scope of work has been sufficiently completed and payment is due. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I want a bathroom that is done by a Licensed Contractor that can pass inspection.
The machine
I'm a 5-Star Certified Angi (formerly Handy) Pro with! 100% positive feedback. That's because I care about my customers. I was taught at a young age by my dad how to work with my hands, good values, integrity and good service to customers. Unfortunately on many occasions, I have been faced with situations where Angi's services and policies fall short of promises made to customers, and forced me (The Independent Contractor / Expert) to either make it right, or ask customers for more money than what was quoted for the job, or, if they refuse to pay, leave the job. (Angi support says, "I am under no obligation to stay if the customer refuses to pay.")
One customer recently purchased a kids bunk bed from an Angi partner; Target, Wayfair, Walmart, or Costco, etc. for about $600, and this included $492 for assembly. The job assignment required two "professionals", to show up for 2 hours, but I was the only one who did.
Here's where it gets complicated: Out of $492 that the customer pays, I get $38.50. (Hard to believe?) Also, we get paid for our time, not per job. $38.50 is for 2 hours worth of work. That means if the job takes longer than what is estimated, which often happens, it puts us in a compromising position to have to ask the customer directly for more money.
In this example, had the other guy shown up, everything would have been OK for the customer, but now, in order to get it done, so the customer could have a bed for her kids, I had to extend my time another 2 hours (cancelling other jobs) and request Angi for more money. All I can say is asking Angi to do what's right, is ridiculously hard, and time consuming (unpaid time) and a bit like pulling teeth from a crocodile.
They refer me back to "the customer" (You guys) to ask for more money. And sometimes when I have done this, especially when I was new, it puts me in a very awkward situation. (In the end, after much to do, I stayed on this job, finished it up, put my best work into it, and got another $38.50 for the additional two hours. And a tip from the customer.) But this is one of many incidents, where the "machine" breaks down and I had to collaborate with customers to get paid from Angi for the rightful pay for hours I spend doing the work. Angi, from my observation, really does not care about either of us in that process any more than an packing machine cares about the meat it's packing. It's a machine. (It works. But there's no heart or humanity, or soul, especially when the system breaks down.)
Also, it has happened many times, especially due to shipping delays during Covid, that customers are told that the "Pro" is bringing the item they purchased by Walmart or Costco and when I get there, the customer and I are looking at each other, both thinking that the other person has it. (That is so funny. Like putting the cart before the horse, what a lack of coordination again showing that the head and tail are not well coordinated.) When that happens, I need to explain to the disillusioned customer, that "No, I do not have the item you purchased.", it is being delivered by the mfg, and I am a local Handyman, live nearby and work for an outfit called Angi, who outsourced / made a deal with the company you purchased the from, to do the assembly work. (And basically apologize for the machine.) Then they need to call Walmart, or Angi, or Target or whoever, to try to reschedule the assembly as I leave. (Good luck! Deep breaths... Patience, patience, patience.)
Customer's frequently lament about trying to cancel or reschedule jobs, and it doesn't get done and I show up when they had cancelled and that's when they tell me about their experience; an overall lack of / poor customer service. (That is another Angi outsource.)
I have so many more stories... I have done over 100 jobs, and I think you get the point. Not everything about Angi / Handy is bad. Like other 'gig economy' business models, it gets people who would not ordinarily meet in the same local area to meet. And that's a good thing. And it gets people like me with a valuable skill set, active and doing something constructive, between jobs and other sources of income. And, most of the other "Pros" I've met along the way are good guys.
(I have not met anyone from Angi.) What Angi calls "certified" is not much of an assurance of anything honestly, except to give the perception to the customer that there's some sort of "vetting" going on. As I said earlier, it's a machine, backed by legal ease, and at the end of the day, they have no clue who's entering your home.
One thing I will say in closing is that the economy created by Angi and it's partners huge price differential between what it charges it's customers and what "Pros" actually receive is not a healthy one. (Notice I said, "between jobs" above. That's because when you add in the cost of travel and tolls and parking to the already very low rates that Angi is paying it's "Pros", you realize that if this was a "Professional's" only income, they would be at or below poverty level in the United States.
It is like the outsourcing of our manufacturing base to third-world countries for so many products in the United States. But the standard of living of these people at that low income level is something we don't give a second thought to.
The problem is when you invite people who are willing to work at such a low income level into your home; some who could be desperate for paying the rent, supporting a family, may have an addition, etc, there could be consequences. Especially as inflation rises and the economy falters. Consequences which Angi is protected against from a liability standpoint, just like Big Pharma cannot be prosecuted for adverse reactions to a vaccine, but your home and your family is not protected from. The machine protects itself.
The Angi sales machine (which probably gets paid on commission for getting as many jobs booked as they can) are happy to sell you the wonders of their services. They will tell you that we "Expert Professionals" can install anything (for less than a contractor). I've seen it happen. Even 2nd and 3rd visits by Pros, getting customer's hopes up, only to arrive to tell the customer the same thing; that the job requires a licensed contractor (My father was a licensed electrician so I know) and we (as Pros) do not have the same level of tools, experience or license, and the job is clearly beyond the scope of what a Handyman Pro can safely do at a customer's house. (Customers want to save money, and contractors are expensive. I get that. But often salespeople will sell you on a job, that should rightfully be done by a contractor, but do not have any knowledge of what is required in the field, wasting customer's and Pro's time and money and creating potential safety risks.)
I do recommend Angi to customers in the hopes that they find an honest handyman and create a relationship with them, even though if Angi finds out, they will fine the Professional $100 and slap them on the wrist. But hey, that may be cheaper (and safer) for you, the potential consumer, and more lucrative for the "Pro" in the long run.
Window Installation
I contacted Angi concerning the installation of a window in my basement . The contractor was scheduled to complete the job on September 14th within a given time. My debit card was automatically charged the agreed upon price of $552. 36 at the time of booking. The contractor never turned up. He didn’t even have the courtesy to call or respond to my...

Pool service
I hired someone from Angi's list to clean my pool, a one-time event for about $400 dollars. This was done and they were paid with a pre-authorized debit card payment. I find out a few weeks later that my card has been charged again and billed as a recurring payment. For no services received! I want a full refund of $430.67 because no services were rendered.
Desired outcome: Refund of $430.67
Angi (formerly Angie's List) Review: Frustrating Experience, No Refund, and Poor Customer Service
So, I had a pretty bad experience with Angi (formerly Angie's List) recently. I had scheduled a service with a pro, but they no showed at the time of the appointment. Angi was able to reschedule the service for me, but then the pro called out last minute and they rescheduled it again to a time that didn't work for me. I was pretty frustrated at this point and decided to cancel the service altogether. I responded to the text they sent me and also emailed them to cancel.
But then, things got even worse. Another pro contacted me saying they would be there for the rescheduled time, even though I had already cancelled the service. They wouldn't accept that I had cancelled and wouldn't confirm that they wouldn't come to my property. I tried to cancel again through their online ticket system and by calling their support number, but I was disconnected and couldn't get through. Finally, after multiple emails, I received confirmation that the service was cancelled.
But then, I realized that they had taken the full cost of the job from my account, even though the service was never provided. I had stupidly given them my charge card number, thinking they would only charge me if the job was completed or if I cancelled within 24 hours. I immediately cancelled my charge card to prevent them from taking any more money.
I was pretty upset about the whole thing and decided to look into their reviews more closely. I found a lot of reports from other people who had similar experiences and felt like they had been scammed. Even though their ratings seem good, I would definitely caution people against using this company. It's just not worth the risk of having to deal with this kind of frustration and financial loss.
And to make matters worse, I still haven't received a refund for the services that were never provided. They haven't responded to my emails and I'm having to work with professionals to try to get my money back. It's just been a really frustrating experience overall and I want to warn others so they don't have to go through the same thing.
Unprofessional Behavior from Angi Client Manager: My Experience with the Advertising Company
I recently signed up for Angi (formerly Angie's List) to help bring in more business for my company, Maryland Countertop. As a sales manager, I'm always looking for ways to keep busy and increase sales. I signed up on January 5th, 2022 and was assigned a client manager named Andrew Grunwald. I was excited to receive a phone call from him and we chatted for a bit about how he could help me double my sales and lower my monthly cost to $300. As someone who has never used an advertising company before, I was a bit hesitant and wanted to get approval from my boss before making any decisions.
Unfortunately, I missed Grunwald's follow-up call and he never texted me a number to call him back. The next day, he called me again and I explained that I hadn't spoken to my boss yet due to her being busy and sick. He continued to push me to make a decision and even asked if I would agree to the $300 cost if he promised it. I reiterated that I needed to speak with my boss first and asked if he could leave a number for me to call back later. That's when things took a turn for the worse.
Grunwald became frustrated and told me that we were wasting each other's time. He didn't want to play "ring around the rosie" or "the texting game." I was taken aback by his tone and word choice. As a sales representative myself, I would never speak to a client like that, whether I had just met them or known them for years. I calmly told him that I didn't want to move forward with the process and he told me that I had wasted his time and that he was going to call my competitor. He even said "Adios" before hanging up, which was obviously sarcastic.
Overall, I was disappointed with my experience with Angi. While I understand that Grunwald was likely frustrated with the situation, his behavior was unprofessional and left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not sure if I will continue to use Angi in the future, but I hope that other clients have a better experience than I did.
Disappointing Experience with Angi's List: Poor Vetting Process and Substandard Cleaning Services
I recently gave Angi (formerly Angie's List) a try to find contractors and cleaners for my home. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with their vetting process for their so-called "professionals." It seemed to be non-existent, which was frustrating. When I created a "project," they tried to match me with people in my area. However, they didn't match me with the best people. Instead, they matched me with the newest people, which meant that they had no reviews and no track records.
This was especially true for their cleaning service setup. At first, I was excited about the reasonable price (considerably less than Merry Maids and the like) and the easy scheduling. However, the person they sent out was obviously not a professional cleaner. She arrived without the proper supplies and used COMET scouring powder on ALL surfaces in my house, including my fine wood tables, glass, and granite counters. As a result, she made a horrendous mess and damaged my furniture. I contacted Angi, and they sent out a second person to "fix" the first cleaning. This one was "better," but she did a substandard job and left early without completing the job. I had contracted for 5.5 hours, but the cleaner left after 2 hours.
The next booking with them was a no-show, but they charged me anyway. I had to contact their support to get my refund. When I got them to reschedule and send someone out to replace the no-show, their replacement was ALSO a no-show. At this point, I had tried to have my home cleaned four times and had failed. It was clear that there was zero vetting of their people, no way to review the people's work, and almost no recourse when things went wrong. The customer service person said, "Do not worry, we will mark your professional down, and if that puts them below our minimum rating, they will be removed." Honestly, that didn't give me much confidence.
Overall, the new Angi setup is just bad. Their matching isn't based on what you (the homeowner) needs and the quality you expect, but on the low-quality contractors who are either boosting their match chance or have no established record. It's frustrating to use a service that doesn't seem to care about the quality of the professionals they're sending to your home. I hope they improve their vetting process soon.
Angi (formerly Angie's List) Review: Terrible Experience with Tentative Quote and No-Show Contractor
I gotta say, my experience with Angi (formerly known as Angie's List) was not a good one. We had a roofing issue after a natural disaster hit our area and decided to give Angi a try for the first time. We spoke with one of their representatives over the phone and received a "tentative quote" for the work we needed done. We scheduled a contractor to come out and perform the service, even though they had never seen the damage in person.
On the day of the scheduled appointment, we waited and waited for the contractor to arrive. But they never did. We checked our messages and found out that the worker had left a voice-mail 30 minutes before the scheduled time, saying that they couldn't make it and we would need to reschedule. This was frustrating, to say the least. We had taken time off work to be there and had planned everything out in advance.
But it gets worse. Angi then charged our debit card for the "tentative quote" they had given us, even though no service had been rendered. They charged us thousands of dollars for work that had never been done! And to make matters worse, the quote was supposed to be tentative, as no one had seen the damage yet and didn't know the full extent of the repairs needed.
When we called to complain, they did refund our money, but not before trying to talk us into using another one of their "trusted professionals" to do the job. No way were we going to let them keep our money after such a terrible experience. We found someone else to do the work and never looked back.
Overall, I would not recommend using Angi. There are plenty of other resources out there to find a contractor, and based on recent reviews, it seems like many others have had similar experiences. Save yourself the headache and find someone else to do the job.
Angi Review: A Disappointing Platform Focused on Making Money, Not Providing Quality Service
Angi, formerly known as Angie's List, is a platform that claims to provide consumers with local verified tradesmen and hosts web space to verify reviews for those tradesmen. However, my experience with the platform has been disappointing, to say the least.
When I first joined Angi, I was told that it would take three verified reviews before I could even be included in searches. Additionally, I was told that any consumer who searched for my specialty within five miles of me would have access to my profile. However, upon further investigation, I found that very few returned profiles had more than one review, and even fewer businesses were within five miles of me. This discrepancy between what Angi advertises and what they actually deliver is a major issue.
It's clear that Angi has become more focused on making money than on providing a platform for competent local talent. They only represent those who are willing to tolerate their wishy-washy policies, and only for hard cash. Despite this, they continue to advertise their original goals, which is a form of fraud.
One of the most frustrating things about Angi is that every time you contact them, you get a different answer to your issue, and there is very little follow-up. This leads to broken promises and a lot of ill feeling. Additionally, the platform records every conversation, and their minimum wage operators have broad latitude in entering items to your profile. If you question them about anything or try to hold them accountable for any broken promises, you will be labeled as an aggressive troublemaker. Each subsequent conversation with them becomes more abrasive and uncooperative than the last.
As a tradesman, I have invested a lot of time in procuring reviews that Angi no longer deems important in placements. I believe that this is a form of restraint of trade, and I would like to sue them for everything they own. I am interested in hearing from others who have had similar experiences with Angi.
In conclusion, I would not recommend Angi to anyone looking for local verified tradesmen or a platform to verify reviews. The platform has become more focused on making money than on providing a valuable service to consumers and tradesmen.
Angi (formerly Angie's List) Review: Shady Business Practices and Poor Service
I gotta say, I've been using Angi (formerly known as Angie's List) for a while now and I'm not too thrilled with the service. They somehow convinced me to renew my contract for another year, but my rep never called me back when I needed her. I was told she was sick and that someone else would contact me, but no one ever did. So I kept calling and leaving messages, but still no response. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy about it and was planning on not renewing my contract when it was up.
But then, out of nowhere, they started calling me non-stop for two weeks straight. They kept telling me that they needed more reviews and that was the reason why I wasn't happy with their service. So I decided to mail in about 25 reviews, but they only put three of them up. What a waste of time! I mean, why bother getting reviews if they're not going to use them?
Recently, I got a new account manager named Andrea and she asked me what they could do to keep me as a customer. I told her that they should give me three months free, but she said that wasn't possible. Instead, she offered to reimburse me for two months and not charge me an early cancellation fee. She said she was confident that I would be pleased with their service in December and that she would call me to see if I wanted to renew my contract or not.
So I decided to give them one more chance. But guess what? I got nothing. Or should I say, the leads they gave me were for work that I don't even do. And get this, I was paying $500 a month for this service! Andrea told me that this was the cheapest she had ever seen, but I knew she was lying. They're just salespeople trying to make a buck.
To make matters worse, they renewed my contract without my consent and increased the price to $843. When I called Andrea to ask why they did this, she said she didn't hear from me so they went ahead and renewed it. I told her that they needed to reimburse my credit card because I didn't authorize this. She said I would have to pay an early termination fee, but I reminded her that she had already told me she would waive it. She apologized and said she had forgotten about that.
Honestly, I'd rather give someone else $500 that could use it because that's what I'm doing with Angi. And to top it all off, they're now with Home Adviser, which means that if you get a lead from Angi, they won't reimburse you. That's just shady. Home Adviser has also gone downhill and the leads are not good. So if you're thinking about using Angi, I'd think twice about it.
Misleading and Unreliable Service: My Experience with Angi (formerly Angie's List)
Angi, formerly known as Angie's List, promised to provide me with 15 leads when I signed up for their service. However, during the three-month term, they only provided me with one lead. I started their service cycle on November 1, 2021, and ended it on January 31, 2022. They charged me $400.00 each month, but during the first month, I was double charged. I tried to contact them through email and phone calls to resolve the issue, but I did not receive any response. I made 23 inquiries over three months, but still, no response.
At the end of the third month, I finally reached someone as a new customer. I received a response on the first try with a phone call. I told the representative that I did not receive the support I was guaranteed nor the service I was promised. I also stated that I would terminate their misleading and unreliable service. However, the representative hung up on me immediately. Despite my verbal request to cancel the service, Angi tried to withdraw another $400.00 plus $200.00 for the month of February 2022.
I was concerned about my business account after I verbally told them I did not want their service anymore. I put a stop payment on my business bank account, canceled my card, and issued a new card. However, with no prior contact since the end of the third month of their cycle, on May 17, 2022, I received a notification that Angi withdrew $625.00 and $100.00 from my account. I did not agree nor provide any new bank information, but this company managed to withdraw this money from my account without permission.
I reported it to my bank and started a fraud investigation. The bank does not understand how they managed to gain access if the previous card was canceled. I had to freeze and close out my bank account, leaving me in a vulnerable position to not let this company gain any access to my bank account. With $2,325.00 withdrawn from my bank account and only one lead provided, no response unless I was a new customer, and no support with the account not serving as promised, I feel this company is creating fraud not only for me but for other companies as well. I am very disappointed that I put my trust into a company to get such a misleading service.
Withdrawals:
11/01/2021 - $400.00
11/30/2021 - $400.00
12/30/2021 - $400.00
01/21/2021 - $400.00
05/17/2022 - $625.00
05/17/2022 - $100.00
Total - $2,325.00
Beware of Mario Russo: Poor Quality, No Customer Service, and Multiple Name Changes
I recently had an experience with Angi (formerly Angie's List) and wanted to share my thoughts. I hired Mario Russo and his crews to build a screen enclosure around my new in-ground pool. Before hiring him, I got a quote for his services and wanted to make sure that drains were installed in our pool screen. The quote we received very specifically states that four (4) drains were included in the price. We hired him to do the work. After the pool screen was completed and the crews were ready to leave, we questioned why there were no drains installed and were told that these were on back order. After waiting months and following up several times with Mario, we checked online only to find that the company that made the type of drain he wanted to install is no longer in business. We tried to discuss this with Mario and offered several alternative drains that could be installed. His response was that they were too expensive. Now as we all know, the prices on everything have significantly increased. And if the product you used to buy is no longer available, you have to buy what is. In fairness, we offered to split the cost with Mario but he will not return numerous calls or messages left.
Additionally, the very first time it rained following installation of the pool screen, the Super Gutter which he installed was leaking. We brought this to Mario's attention and were promised several times that crews would be by to fix it. They never came and now, months later, the problem has still not been resolved. As with the drain issue, Mario does not return numerous calls or messages and clearly has no intention of correcting the problem and standing behind the workmanship of his crews.
So be forewarned that although this company may at first be responsive and faster than some to perform installation, you don't get what you pay for, there is no quality control and no customer service. They are just quick to take your money and then you will not hear from them again. After this experience, I began to look into this company and found that they have undergone several name changes, as well as Contractor license number changes and locations. It is apparent now why this was done – they screw customers and then try to get more by changing into something else (ie: Mario Russo Aluminum, Mr. Aluminum, Treasure Coast Marine Inc., Family Pools). The company you hire may even have a different name, but be warned against an Owner named Mario Russo.
Disappointing Experience with Angie's List: Unreliable Messaging and Poor Customer Service
I recently used Angi's site to find a company for a roofing job. At first, I was impressed with how quickly things were moving. All Season Roofing contacted me through a number provided by Angie's List, and we set up an appointment for the next day at 1:30pm. However, things quickly went downhill from there.
After confirming the appointment via text message, I received an automated response from HomeAdvisor (which I found confusing, as I thought I was using Angie's List). I replied to the text, asking if there was anything else they needed from me, and received another automated response. I assumed everything was fine.
However, when the appointment time came around, no one showed up. I called the number provided in the automated message, which led me to a Bookings department at Angie's List. After being transferred several times, I finally got in touch with All Season Roofing, who apologized and explained that they never received my confirmations for the appointment.
I called Angie's List back to file a complaint, but was transferred multiple times and received little help. I was frustrated with the experience and decided to write this review to warn others about the poor service I received.
Overall, I was disappointed with the experience and will not be using Angie's List again. The messaging/texting service was confusing and unreliable, and the customer service was unhelpful. I hope that others will have a better experience with this site, but I cannot recommend it based on my own experience.
Beware Angi (formerly Angie's List): A Dubious Review Site with Hidden Fees
I recently had an experience with Angi (formerly known as Angie's List) and I have some speculation to share. First and foremost, I must warn you to BEWARE of this site. Angi is a platform that reviews local brick and mortar businesses and service providers in your area. It's a great idea to look up a contractor before you hire them, and they supposedly screen the reviews and reviewers before postings. However, I found this site to be sadly lacking in reviews of places I would be interested in, such as contractors, flooring stores, and other businesses in my area that are reasonably well-known. As many were missing as were acknowledged with no relevant review material.
Now, what really gets me to write a negative review on something I love as much as a consumer review site is that Angi does not disclose anywhere on their commercials or website that there is a fee attached for the privilege of viewing their incredibly unthorough site. And the fee is not small, as I am sure you already know if you are reading this. There's either a monthly or annual membership fee which costs as much as you would save by shopping around in many cases. I found this out after entering all my personal information, phone numbers, address, age, sex, everything. Then a screen pops up asking for your credit card info. Don't enter it, and you can go no further, but they have added all your info to their demographic marketing database which is undoubtedly being used for reasons you don't want it used for (this is simply educated speculation coming from the marketing industry myself).
I hate getting duped into anything. I hate having my trust betrayed. I thought this kind of skullduggery and duplicitous information gathering scam had gone the way of the rotary phone (with a cord!) except for the credit offers and too-good-to-be-true / desperation sites. Angi puts up a good facade, but they offer very little of what they promise, were of no help to me, a waste of money and time, and really left me angry about gathering all my information before requesting a disproportionate fee for the service they offer.
I do suspect the only way they are able to continue advertising is that they are selling your personal and demographic data to other entities or redeploying it within the parent organization for other purposes. There is big money in this and I cannot see anyone with common sense paying what they ask when similar info is available elsewhere for free. The high fee (again this is speculation) may be their attempt to NOT get you to sign up so you will not see the incredible lack of information they have on businesses and reviews in your area. This is the only reasonable conclusion I can draw as to how they continue to be in business and advertise, and industry-speaking, it is a very clever ruse if true.
Being in marketing, I had a reason for checking them out, but found out they were a joke. So, I must warn you again, BEWARE ANGI'S LIST!
***, a representative of Angie's List, contacted me in January about upgrading my free listing with them to a paid site
a representative of Angie's List, contacted me in January about upgrading my free listing with them to a paid site. With the paid site, I was told that I would receive a large number of leads because I was in a target service area with many homeowners waiting for contractors looking for the services I provide. I informed the representative that I am transitioning from cleaning homes myself and was looking for ways to market my real estate and notary public services. I informed him that I could still use the services however, if they are able to generate enough leads my way to help keep my contractors busy with home, office, and carpet cleaning services. I was told that there wasn't a category for real estate, notary or office cleaning with Angie's List, but I would be placed into a category for housekeeping, carpet and floor cleaning services marketing in a high volume service area. I paid $300 and was told I needed to add photos to increase my chances of gaining leads. I updated my site with additional photos. I was later told that I wasn't getting leads because I need at least 5 survey ratings completed. I started requesting surveys from my clients. The first client to leave a review on Angie's List was not visible and was flagged as under review. I now have 2 more reviews from my clients, and they were actually posted to the site. I tried reaching out to Angie's List by phone regarding my first review and to figure out why I haven't been receiving leads. It's hard to reach someone when you are available, but instead must rely on you being free when they call you back. 3 weeks into this 12 month contract, I receive my first lead. I was excited, but disgusted at the thought that it took almost a month to receive 1 lead. Here it is a week later and I haven't received another lead. I tried expanding my service area and requesting more survey ratings from clients, but uneasy with doing all the work I thought my $300 was supposed to pay for. I reached out 2/16 to try to get someone to call me back regarding my account because I don't want to pay another penny if I'm only getting 1 lead a month. Today 2/17, I received a call from Scott Larson. I asked what is the difference between the free listing, and the listing where I was made to pay $300. To be honest, I still don't know what the difference is besides now they have $300 of my hard earned money. He further explained that they cannot guarantee any lead generation since they are a directory service. He explained that I was set up for carpet and floor cleaning services. I requested a copy of my contract both over the phone with Scott this morning and in a chat conversation with a consumer representative yesterday. I still have not received a copy of my signed contract, and the link emailed to me in January expired and is no longer visible. Scott said there was no way to terminate the contract. He said I was in a category for floor cleaning and waxing. He explained he would add housekeeping and send a ticket to see why I wasn't getting leads. I let Scott know that I don't agree with their business practices and that if I wasn't going to receive any additional services for paying $300 a month, I don't want the service. I also told him that if consumer ratings are what generate the leads, I could have done that when my listing was still free. I'm still totally confused on what I'm supposed to get with a paid site because I have yet to see any results or enhancements.

Angi told me that if I paid them $1900/month I would receive leads that would amount to 20k/month in sales. Not only did this never happen, but my results were so far off that I found myself mainly working to pay off the advertising fees. I approached my client services manager via email and over the phone about my concerns. I even explained that I was so far off that I couldn't see that advertising being worth it if I continued to advertise. How are they allowed to require a startup business to agree to a 1-year contract and have zero accountability when they renege on their promises? I didn't realize I had signed a 1-year contract until I was contacted by someone in their sales department trying to solicit more advertising services. I emailed Angi to cancel the services, they did not respond to my emails. I sent 4 emails total. They will continue to charge you.The contract you sign is not available within the Angi leads app. You are able to cancel your business agreement within the app, this does not cancel your agreement. I requested a copy of the contract; I was told I would receive it within 3 days. I never received it. Approximately 1/2 of the leads I received and then contacted, never responded back to me. Angi does not verify proper licensing, where applicable, prior to soliciting their leads to their clients. I disclosed this to them prior to signing up. Angi will continue to charge you.
After a lot of negotiating with their sales rep, I agreed to enter into a contract with Angi Ads for a specified number of leads per month. For this service, Angi Ads would charge me approximately $1,700.00 per month. I began my contract in October 2022. The agreement did not indicate in writing the exact number of leads per month. I took the salesperson's word that this would be what I would receive. The contract did indicate a contact number over the next 90 days to be within a certain range.
Going into winter, which is the slowest time of year for the roofing industry in my market, I didn't think too much about it. Marketing is about averages. As the leads started, I was getting about one per day, whereas I should have been receiving four per day. As time went on, this dwindled to one or two per week. To make matters worse, a good deal of the contact information Angi provided was from people, addresses, and phone numbers that were fake. The phone numbers were not in service, etc. I talked with my Angi Ads rep and he suggested it was my fault because I did not respond quickly enough, or by the best method. I insisted this was not the case. I made my responses as quickly as possible, but the vast majority of names they provided were not real.
I had several conversations with my rep from Angi over my concerns that they were not providing what was promised by the sales rep. They continued to insist that they were. At this point, I did more research only to discover that there is a multitude of contractors experiencing the same problem with Angi Ads. I contacted my rep today to insist that I intend to cancel my agreement with them because they fraudulently represented their services. He insists that they will charge me 35% of the remaining agreement balance. I know they have multiple class action lawsuits as well as independent suits against them for exactly these reasons. For these reasons, I would like my contract cancelled and a full refund of all monies paid to Angi Ads.
I was trying to find someone to remove snow from our sidewalks at church. I had to enter information on about eight different screens describing the project and giving information about the church locations, etc. I was told at the end that someone would contact me. The next thing I knew someone was calling my cell phone. I DO NOT give out my cell phone to anyone except friends and family. I would like to know how Angi got my cell phone number. I am very upset that they would not use the number provided, which was NOT, my cell phone. I want to know how they got that number.
Angi offered a $261 settlement to avoid sending me to the collection and asked me to update the complaint to "resolved" and I did. I requested a response to my bank dispute because I disputed a partial refund due to more than 70% fake/false/third-party resold leads. On January 6, 2023, my financial institution informed me that I have won the chargeback due to Angi's failure to produce evidence sufficient to support the charge, and closed the case (opened on December 2, 2022, and required 35 days to resolve. And my financial institution advised me not to pay this merchant before the dispute is completed.) So I waited 35 days until January 6, 2023, and was ready to pay the settlement. But meanwhile, Angi emailed me that my Angi Leads account has been forwarded to our outside collection agency. And Our outside collection agency will be contacting you to discuss this matter. The outstanding balance can also be paid by contacting us directly. on the exact same date when I won the chargeback. I tried to resign from the platform but showed invalid info. If the account was sold to a third-party collection agency, the debtor only had to deal with the collector, not the creditor. But the email states the outstanding balance can also be paid by contacting us directly. This means Angi uses an in-house debt collection department associated with debt collection agencies, CMI, MBW, etc, to collect monies from us for the bogus Leads. These individuals know of or recklessly disregarded, the fact that the Angi debts are illegitimate. I have filed complaints with the state Attorney General and another state Attorney General, as well as the FTC since the harassment and threat have been continuing for more than two months. I requested a proper solution including cease and desist all calls and emails contact with me and removing all my personal information from your platform. I believe I am owed $261 compensation for the disastrous customer experience and cease any further collection efforts.
My company has been an Angie's List advertiser and Super Service Award winner for almost a decade
My company has been an Angie's List advertiser and Super Service Award winner for almost a decade. I emailed my Angie's List rep, J G on 4/2 asking for at least one month of deferred payments for my advertising due to the COVID-19 pandemic. My governor mandated a shut down of non essential businesses on 4/2 that lasted until the end of May. At this time, my company paid out it's last payroll and I had $15 in my business account and no revenue coming in. The PPP and other government funded support had not become available and I did not know when I would have any money to pay bills. I contacted all of my accounts for bill pay and asked for flexibility or deferment before the due dates. Angie's List was one of these account. My rep emailed me back several days later and said she could only lower my payments but could not defer any payments. I told her I had zero dollars to pay anyone and that this arrangement would not suffice. I received flexibility from every single one of my bill pay accounts for deferment but Angie's List would not help. My rep tried to get me to sign a new 12 month agreement but I didn't know when we would be back to work so I declined as it required money for a first payment. On 4/17, Angie's list charged my account for the full amount due and it put my account in the negative and also incurred extra fees. I emailed my rep and told her to cancel my advertising. I was angry at how poorly Angie's List was helping small businesses during this time and I did not have any money to pay anyone. On 4/25, my bank account which was already in the negative was charged for $857 from Angie's List for a 'cancellation fee.' There was no communication from my rep about this fee, I was not aware of such a cancellation fee. After 8 years of being an advertiser with Angie's List, I had never cancelled and this ridiculous cancellation fee was never communicated to me.I called my rep several times, I sent her emails and she never returned my phone calls. She emailed me back and said I could speak to her manager Marshall R about it. I called him and left a voice message but he never returned my call. I disputed the amount with my bank and now Angie's List is sending me to collections. I received an email from an attorney's office representing Angie's List stating that I agreed to this contract, was aware of the billing terms and that I have refused to resolve the issue. I was not told about an $857 cancellation fee. I agreed to pay for advertising but was told I could cancel at any time. Under normal circumstances, I would have continued my relationship with Angie's List but not after how terribly they handled supporting a long term business client with circumstances outside my control. Due to this global pandemic, I have had to move out of my home, relocate my business and downsize to try and make ends meet. Literally every other business, even the IRS provided three months of flexibility, but Angie's List made my problem worse by charging my account even when I told them I had zero dollars and then charging a ridiculous $857 cancellation fee that was never communicated to me. I want this outstanding balance with Angie's List resolved and for them to stop harassing me. I don't have the money to pay. Even if I did, I wouldn't because Angie's list customer service values are the worst. In the eight years of working with them, they have significantly deteriorated. If they had just given me flexibility for one month of advertising fees, I would still be working with them today.
I am a contractor who used their advertising service. I signed up for an advertising for 12 months, I did not get any qualified leads so I called my service rep. and asked to cancel and pay the 35% early termination fee he processed my request and yesterday I received a threatening email if I don't pay 65% I will be taken to collections. My contract clearly states I have the option to cancel and pay 35% of the remaining balance. After I received the email I tried to reach out to the person in charge of my case and received no response. I attached a copy of my contract which states the 35% I have no idea where the 65% came from. I feel this is their tactic to bully people into paying. I will dispute this to the fullest extent of the law. I demand an explanation as well. This has been ongoing for months every time I try to have someone from Angi for help I always get the run around they don't help at all. They sent me fake leads and now this. I attached my contract and their email to me!
Was fraudulently signed up for roof assessment - replacement. Email address given to Angi's list was not valid, so there is no way they could have validated. They cannot remove immediately, so It will *** hours of calls. I have a Mother-in-law not in good health, a Mother that just lost her husband, and a niece that was raised by my parents that I now watch over. I also deal with several companies, all with different jurisdictions. I do not have the luxury of just ignoring phone calls.
Set up an appt. For electrical work over the phone and was given a choice of electrician or handyman for a lesser price. I chose electrician and was quoted a price. Subsequently received confirmation email with a different price. Spoke with cancellations but was promised the original price. Account was charged the higher email price. When trying to be refunded the over charge found out I was charged for a membership that I specifically told I did not want. They WILL NOT refund the over charge - only offer an Angi credit to be used for any other service. What makes them think I will ever use them again! Besides that, my electrician" turned out to just be a handy man so I was charged extra for an electrician but sent a handyman, which should have cost less. Company is just a scamming bait and switch operation. I will also be contacting the attorney generals office of *** with my complaint, as well as forwarding the MANY complaints I have come across.
Angi uses predatory business practices that are unfair to homeowners and contractors. Angi places *** advertisements on sites like the one in the screenshot attached, which appear to be for a single local business. However, by filling out this form, your personal information is sold to a number of companies, and you are contacted mercilessly. This form is problematic for a number of reasons. The homeowner would reasonably assume they are contacting a single company by completing it. Additionally, it does not contain an explicit opt-in checkbox consent, for consumers to confirm their approval to be contacted by filling out this form. Additionally, the disclosure is too small and long to be unrealistically readable for many people. Angi is a scam company and should be shut down for selling consumer information without their consent.
I had contacted Angies List because I was interested in listing my business on there
I had contacted Angies List because I was interested in listing my business on there. After some calls back and forth with our sales rep "Jeremy W" we decided to advertise with Angies List. He began to tell us how much the advertising costs, I believe he said it was $500 a month at first but was able to bring it down to $400 a month after speaking with his manager. He sent us an email and when I opened it to start our advertisement plan I see there is a very large total on the summary. I asked the sales rep about that and he said not to worry about it because it is charged monthly. I continued to ask him how many jobs I will be getting off of Angies List, so he went to look at the other companies in my area and said I should expect at least 8 jobs a month. WHAT A LIE. The sales rep was very pushy, I could tell all he just wanted me to sign it. He told us that you could always call us and lower your monthly bill but never mentioned you have to pay a termination fee on the remaining balance or that the lowest monthly bill they allow is $300. The first month went by after charging me 400 dollars, I got one call and it was in an area I didn't even service! I called my client success manager and he was confused and said "I don't know why you are listed to service a different state when your in New York". First red flag of this scam. Why was my service area set to a different state? I continued on and at the end of the month I had only gotten that one call from a person IN THE WRONG STATE! I called my client success manager and he said its because you don't have more than 5 reviews, he said you need 5 reviews or more in order for it to start properly advertising. Why wasn't I told this before signing the contract? The sales rep never mentioned anything of this. So I continued on again, I gave my client success manager a bunch of phone numbers to call for reviews, now I have 7 reviews, but where are the customers? I have gotten 8 "customer contacts" in the last 90 days and only one of them converted to a job. Also whats funny is that most of those customer contacts are not even from my advertising area but rather my service area. ONLY 2 CONTACTS IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS THAT ARE FROM MY ADVERTISING AREA THAT I AM PAYING $400 A MONTH FOR! This company has robbed almost $2,000 from me for 8 "customer contacts" in the last 90 days! Where are the 8 jobs a month I was promised? On top of all this when I called my client success manager to cancel he said you have to pay an early termination fee of like a thousand dollars! WHAT?!?! I even tried to ask him to lower my monthly budget but he said the lowest it goes to is $300 and you would still have to pay the early termination fee on the remaining balance that was lowered. The sales rep lied to me just to get me to sign on, I have gotten one job in the last 3 months off this and spent almost $2,000 already. Whats worse than all this? MY CLIENT SUCCESS MANAGER AND THE MANAGER WILL NOT PICK UP THIER PHONES! I am trying to call them to see if we could resolve this. Every time I call it says they are at home, not available or at a meeting. I have called NUMEROUS TIME NOW! I even called the regular sales line and they told me to call my client success manager and that the manager is busy. I have had it with this company. I have been lied to by the sales rep, 8 jobs a month? What about the reviews I needed in order for the advertising to start working and the termination fee? and they wont even pick up their phones! I want these people to stop charging my card for not delivering what they promised me and I don't want to pay an early termination fee for something I was lied to into signing.

my problem is this company has been told via phone that appliance whisperer does not want to business with angie and to stop calling our business phone lines. not only do they persist but they leave rude voicemails when we don't answer their numbers. as the owner of appliance whisperer i demand they cease and desist all communications with our company at once. MH
On December 6, 2022, I paid ANGI ADS the sum of $300 USD on the promise of a "GUARANTEED 10x by Christmas" by a person who identified himself as a sales rep for the company. I told him, "this is all the money I have right now, I'll trust you." After the first week with no communication from ANGI whatsoever, I called asking for answers, only to have a customer service agent tell me he wasn't going to deal with me and hung up. I was later informed by someone claiming to be the sales rep's colleague that he'd gone through some personal problems. I gave it an extra week. When I reestablished communication for the third time, I asked the sales rep the reason for not delivering on his promise, to which he called me a "[censored]ing liar," claiming he never said anything about a guarantee. He then said, "and if your business is failing with us, it's 100% your fault." I asked for a refund, to which he answered, "That's definitely not going to happen." I was then told that the "agreement" I was given had an "early termination fee," which was not disclosed before the sale. I was then assigned a "CSM" by the name of a certain individual. She let it slip that they, in fact, had two agreements: the long form and the short form that you signed. I immediately cancelled the contract for lack of full disclosure but was told by another individual that even though the terms were NOT fully disclosed, I still wouldn't get a refund. I have tried to work things out directly with the company, yet they're not willing to reach an agreement on a basis of good faith. I'm not asking for remedy, or the actual damages sustained from this whole ordeal, only reimbursement for services I never received. All in all, I paid $300 for 1 month of service where I was promised a 10x ROI and only made $100 USD and a handful of insults. I trusted these people and was treated poorly. Don't let it happen to anyone else. Without prejudice, all inalienable rights reserved.
On September 27th, I reached out to a sales representative at Angi and was assured of receiving a substantial number of leads and enough exposure to keep my business thriving. Now, after three months and investing $400 monthly in advertising, I've only managed to complete two minor projects with a combined value of $900. Despite trying various strategies, such as offering deals and garnering reviews, the results have been disappointing. The financial strain of paying for an ineffective service is unsustainable for me. Fortunately, my client success manager has agreed to terminate the contract, which aligns with my wishes. However, I am now facing pressure from other team members at Angi who are insisting that I pay 35% of the remaining annual balance and are threatening to involve a third-party collection agency. The prospect of incurring additional costs for services that have not delivered as promised is simply unfeasible.
I submitted specifications for a service that I was seeking. After filling out all required information, I was given a link to only their sponsored service. I chose not to use their service and ensured that I had selected all necessary options to not be contacted by text or email. I was then emailed and once again updated my preferences to not receive any communications. The emails continued. I opted out again on the same screen. I then received a text message. I once again opted out of communications.I have now received 77 spam phone calls in the past 48 hours after Angi *** clearly sold my data.
I purchased a lead subscription service on March 3 through Angie's List
I purchased a lead subscription service on March 3 through Angie's List. This is a service that Angie's List uses to provide potential leads to small business. On April 4 one day after my subscription was supposed to renew I contacted them via email stating that due to the corona virus and the stay at home order that I would no longer be able to conduct business and therefore pay for their services. I also requested they put my account on hold and inquired if my next payment could be waived. Jacob Whitaker my client success manager email me back on April 6 and stated that they could not waive or (place on hold) my next payments. Then stated in the email not to worry about the payment and as long is I do not fall 3 payments behind there is nothing done on their end. I emailed Jacob back stating that I am currently on hold and no longer have any credit available to me and also explained that money was really tight for me the moment. Then in the same email I asked where my account was at and how much was currently owed. Then Jacob replied back on April 9 2 days later stating that I currently owed 300 dollars for the month of April and would not owe anything else till May 3. I responded to his email stating that I have not received any business from any of the leads presented as of yet. Then specificity told him to stop sending me leads and to cancel my account. In the same email I also requested that he pro-rate me for the remainder of the month (as described in the terms of the agreement. (One can cancel at anytime and also be refunded for the prorated amount of the current month) I explained that I needed to save any money I have for important items like food, mask, and necessities due to Covid 19. I also relayed to him in this email that charging me for the month of April did not seem appropriate due to the circumstances and also because not one lead presented ever generated any business at all! Jacob Whitaker replied back and his exact words were "If you do not have the money now, it is best for you to just wait" He also stated that there was nothing that could be done for a small company like my own. (Refusing to cancel my account). I then email Jacob Whitaker back reiterating that I was not conducting business and that I needed my lead subscription service canceled. I then asked for him to email me his supervisors contact information. I Did not receive any response from Jacob Whitaker thereafter. After that I realized Jacob Whitaker was not going to help me in any fashion possible and was going to keep postponing my cancellation for my subscription (most likely to keep charging my account). That same day I called in to talk to a manager/supervisor and got directed to Jacob Whitaker. He said during the phone call that he could not cancel my subscription service and ended up hanging up. I then called again and finally got a number for a his supervisor. I received a number for Mr. Patrick [protected] and attempted to reach out to him (left him a voicemail with my contact info) about the situation but he never called me back. That same day I received an overdraft for 300 dollars straight from my back account. (Seems like retaliation that they would charge me on the same day I called to say I wanted to cancel when the account has been Past Due for several days!) I have call logs and screenshots of all the emails from our conversations. I also have screenshots of the terms and agreement which state very clearly that a person can cancel at any time along with getting refunded a prorated amount for the current month not used. I also looked online to see if there was a way I could remove the automated payment process or at least take my card off file as it is a bank card that I use for groceries and such. After double checking my account online I confirmed that there was no options like this available. (I have screen shots) This company is has caused me a lot of time and inconvenience. I certainly will never recommend or use them for anything in the future. I need resolution as soon as possible!

I'm a contractor for the service. I have not been paid for three jobs. I've attempted to communicate with customer service, which is an exercise in futility due to the absence of a direct phone line for service professionals. The only option available is a chat system, where the responses seem uninformed about the company's own policies. The experience is exasperating. When requesting to speak with a supervisor, the responses are limited to either being told that the chat is the highest level of communication or that supervisors are currently unavailable. The answers feel scripted and repetitive.
I experienced a situation where I was physically present with a customer who informed customer service via phone that the job scope was larger than initially described. However, on the Service Pro end, I was accused of refusing the job. It appears that the company does not intend to honor payment as per their policy and is resorting to dishonesty. Despite being right there with the customer, there seems to be no accountability for the company's actions, and no opportunity for direct dialogue. It raises the question of whether the chat system is managed by real people at all. The lack of transparency and accountability suggests a deceptive scheme where individuals are being financially exploited. I traveled 40 miles for this job and spent two hours trying to resolve the issue, only to find that as a contractor, I am left unsupported and bearing the costs. This disregard for support and breach of agreed terms is not only unethical but also illegal.
I was contacted by someone from Angi telling me how many people was looking for electricians in my area and that the costs would be recovered and guaranteed that I would not be scammed or sent bogus information. Tge first 10 leads I got were all bad not that I didnt get the job but either no answer or saying they didnt even contact Angi. I filed a complaint because of the money I was being charged and they had someone call me and say if I stay with Angi they would correct everything and I have a direct point of contact for any issues. . So I stayed they fixed the first but then charged me another 350 for the next c*** leads I got. And now my contact avoids me so I talked to a supervisor and he said sorry. After they kept on calling so I put up 281 at the beginning I read reviews after. There is not one good review by contractors and the people using to get contractors has no idea the contractors are being charged on that Angis promise that local quality contractors will be provided. Angi does not care the quality of the contractor only that they get paid a lot.
This business made a promise about giving me contracts exclusively to me and I could change the amount spend when I needed. They lied about it. I asked for the recording of the call and they refused to provide it. I want to cancel the contract and a refund of at least half of what I paid so far.
I went to a scheduled job on December 21, 2022 the client was not home after messaging the client while waiting the client says that she had a different company to mount the tv because the original pro from Angi had canceled on her. So fast forward to today January 2, 2023 I received a message saying I missed a job and was being charged a fee + the amount paid for the job. The first support I chatted with said I got to the job a hour early, didnt reverse the charges. The second support when I emailed said I didnt check in at all. Angi has a history of doing this I just went through this like less than a month ago. They need more training or something but we talking about taking money money from people that are out here working Ive done over *** jobs on this app and still dealing with the same mess. It needs to be fixed. I want my $91 that was taken from me. Logical sense would say if the job was missed why would it be reported 2 weeks later and not the same day.
An employee of Angies List (Mark) called on April 27th @1:32pm PST, as I was trying to get my family ready to make it on time to DMV by 2:
An employee of Angies List (Mark) called on April 27th @1:32pm PST, as I was trying to get my family ready to make it on time to DMV by 2:30. I explained to him how it is a really bad time because it is a process getting these guys out of the door, but even more so because of the PANDEMIC... He talked his way out of calling me back later, EVERYTIME I TRIED TO ASK HIM TO. I even explained to him that I was driving and could not focus on the road, directions, my kids yelling in the seat behind me, as well as his seasoned pitch...(This guy is a shark!) He swore that this would be the best thing for our severely failing contractor/cleaning business because of COVID lockdown opening back up May 5th, He promised 30 direct contact, REAL connections every month, give or take a few. As well as promising the service will pay for itself, so it really would not hurt us at all. My husband and I both asked on SEVERAL occasions about a canceling fee, each time he said no we may OPT-OUT anytime. However would rattle on, which caused us to ask multiple times. I asked him to call me back, that I couldnt concentrate, let alone drive and keep my family safe...because it all sounded really good. He insisted talking to my husband, which has comprehensive disablities, either way I like for my man to be in the know and hear his input as well, so I gave him the phone. We made it to DMV @ 2:06, I took phone back and looked at email he sent of a successful business numbers and hits and it looked and sounded REALLY GOOD! I explained to him that I really needed him to call me back in 1 hour... ONCE AGAIN, because we were literally so broke that I had to figure it all out when I got home by checking all of our possible funds. He was pressuring me so bad, as I am trying to now leave the DMV @ 2:24. My husband seen I was stressing so bad that he gave me his credit card to use to shut him up and get him off the phone so I could focus on what is most important...OUR FAMILY AND SAFETY! An email was sent @ 2:29 to complete agreement, which obviously I could not because I was driving . At 2:37 we arrived at Walmart as he was still on the phone with me, 2:41 recieved an email stating agreement was accepted. FINLLY got him off the phone at 2:48...1 HOUR 16 MIN CALL, WHILE I WAS SUPER BUSY AMD DRIVING THE ENTIRE TIME. ABSOLUTLEY ZERO CARE OR COURTESY FOR MY FAMILY, MY SELF OR MY BUSINESS. We left Walmart at 3:06. I have been now bouced to 3 different associates in the single month that I have been dealing with them. Scheduled meetings with me, which were consistently unfulfilled. by May 2, I was over their inconsistency and messiness and had also realized that more than half the calls were NOT REAL POTENTIAL CLIENTS, NOTHING BUT SCAMS, FAKE NUMBERS AND EMAILS. So I asked to cancel. May 22, I pleaded to Gale to cancel and a response back. May 23, I asked Chris to OPT OUT, as Mark promised would be no problem or issue at all. I didnt hear back at all. May 26th around 9:50am, I was looking into filing a complaint with Complaintsboard.com, and had seen they reccomend reaching out to the company first and gave me an email to contact. I emailed the suggested person about my issues and intent to file a complaint with Complaintsboard.com, which she then promised Complaintsboard.com would process my account for my very unsatifaction and waive any early termination fees within a few days, and also aked me to get ahold of Chris about what is going on. I then emailed him again, which Chris then stated that I had signed a 12 month agreement and that I will be penalized $1,260. They tossed me through so many associates in so little time I was confused and asked him that I thought he said I can OPT OUT anytime, which he said that was not him and I signed a contract. I DO NOT RECALL SIGNING ANYTHING, AT ALL. May 30, I asked him if there is an update yet, which was ignored, again. June 1, he finally sent an email saying my advertising had been canceled and that I owe $1,050. This company is not out for anyone or business but their own. they dont care about our safety, struggles, or future. In total I recieved 11 leads, which I was only able to get ahold of ONE LIVE CONTACT, the rest were numbers not in service, or random hospital and text now numbers, and no responses to my emails. They promised 30 per month, I did everything they asked, and at least tried to. ANGIES LIST NEEDS SHUT DOWN! *** I HAVE FULL DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE EVERY SINGLE BIT OF THIS COMPLAINT AND TIMELINE. FROM THE INITIAL PHONE CALL, TO MY MAP ACTIVITY ON APRIL 27TH, TO EACH EMAIL THAT I HAD SENT OUT. THIS COMPANY IS CROOKED AND NEED HELD ACCOUNTABLE. AS THE REST OF THE WORLD IS HELD.
I started out by creating a free online profile at Angie's List to see if I could get a presence there to bring in extra business
I started out by creating a free online profile at Angie's List to see if I could get a presence there to bring in extra business. On Feb. 26th I got a call from Brittany R with Angie's List to tell me about some offers and help me "complete my Business Profile." I was in the middle of a certification class to acquire another license for my business, but when I told her I couldn't work on my profile right now she said I had to complete this while I was on the phone with her. Brittany mentioned the paid advertising Angie's List offers, and I told her I didn't want to commit to that right now and would need to think about it. She pressed and said we needed to complete my profile now. She said she could get everything ready to go and then I would have a week to decide about the advertising before they charged the credit card. I made it very clear that I didn't want to make the decision right now because I wanted to discuss it with my business partner first. She said I could just call and tell them I didn't want the paid advertising at any point in the next week. She emailed me forms and said I needed to complete them while on the phone with her. I quickly clicked through the forms, still needing to get off the phone to rejoin the certification class. When I got home that evening my credit card had been charged and I was signed up for paid advertising. This was against what I had communicated to Brittany on the phone and what Brittany had communicated would happen. The advertising agreement I received by email listed the locations and categories Angie's List would advertise for, a monthly total, and an annual total (monthly total x 12). From Brittany's communication over the phone and the wording in the agreement, I understood the payments to be month-by-month. The only time the word "contract" appears in the agreement is in this direct quote: "The total amount due upon activation is non-refundable. If you prepay any amount of your advertising fees in connection with an annual contract, you acknowledge you have received discounted advertising and the portion of your advertising fees you prepaid are non-refundable. If you prepay three months of advertising fees in connection with a three month contract, you acknowledge you have committed to a shorter contract term and the advertising fees you prepaid are non-refundable." The amount due upon activation is listed as the monthly amount. This quote mentions hypothetical annual and three-month contracts, which in no way made me think I was signed up for either one of those. I understood this information to mean that any payments that have already been processed are non-refundable, which makes sense. Since my credit card had already been charged and that amount was non-refundable, I resigned to try out the paid advertising for a month or two and see how it went. I ended up trying the paid advertising for two months, but the amount and type of work that came of it was not worth what I was paying. Since I had never "agreed" to the advertising in the first place, I reached out to my assigned client success manager Carley L. I called her on May 1st, and when I didn't get an answer or a call back, I emailed May 3rd to see if she had received my call. It took several days to schedule a time to talk on the phone, and she wouldn't answer any of my questions by email. When we finally talked I told her I wanted to stop paying for advertising. She asked why I wasn't satisfied and started suggesting changes to my profile. I answered some of her questions but told her I still was not interested in the paid advertising. When I insisted several times that I wanted to cancel, she finally informed me that I was locked into a one-year contract and there was a cancellation fee of $1000. I was shocked and angry, as this was the first time I was hearing or seeing this information. She said she would make some changes to my profile to try to make the advertising more accurate for the month of May that I had already paid for at this point. Upset about the cancellation fee and the ways I had been pressured and misled by Angie's List, I still wanted to cancel the paid advertising. I emailed Carley on June 3rd with no reply, so I called and left a voicemail on June 5th and sent another email letting her know I tried to call and that I wanted to talk to someone. I received no response to either, so I called the general Angie's List number on June 10th. When I told the woman my situation, she transferred me to someone else, but all I got was a voicemail which I left a message on. I have still not received a response. I understand that somewhere in a more detailed Terms of Agreement there may be information about an annual contract and a cancellation fee, but this was not communicated to me in any way in any conversation with an Angie's List employee or in the email notifications I received. The general agreement I have a copy of has a link to the "Angie's List Advertising and Deals Agreement," but when I click on the link I am diverted to an error page. I certainly was not given time to read any of the details of an agreement I didn't know I was signing up for while Brittany rushed me through the process in the middle of a certification class I had invested money in. I am severely disappointed in the misleading and manipulative customer service I have experienced from Angie's List. To say one thing and do another is deceptive to begin with, and then to refuse to cancel a paid service at the request of a customer by ignoring their calls and emails is completely unprofessional.
