My 88 yr old mother needed new gutters for her home
My 88 yr old mother needed new gutters for her home. I met with *** from Avalon Building Concepts at her house and told him she wanted new gutters without screens. He gave us a quote and told us that she would get four free gutter cleanings a year. She called the company today to get someone to clean out her gutters. They told her she had to have screens installed in order to get the four free cleanings! If you have screens, why do you need to have them cleaned? I thought the screens kept everything out. Another case of a salesman telling you what you want to hear just to sell you something. A true disappointment and will NEVER recommend this scam business.
I only ask Avalon to do the work - they do a lot
I only ask Avalon to do the work - they do a lot. They replaced my garage's concrete floor, re-roofed my house and garage, replaced my deck, and three exterior doors. Just got a quote for window replacements too. My sales rep, ***, is great. He listens to what I want and don't want and shows me a couple products he thinks are best. He makes a recommendation, I accept it, he writes up a quote, I look at the price, smile, and sign the contract. So easy. Avalon's products, workmanship, and service are top-notch and a great value. The work crews are professional and leave no trace. *** and Avalon are my go-to for home improvement.
We wanted new flooring in our kitchen and bathroom. Tyson P came to our house, gave us an estimate and showed us samples of flooring that they had. We were happy with the cost and and they had just what we wanted in flooring. Tyson was a great guy to work with. The guys who came to install the floors were a fun bunch and did a great job installing our floors. We couldn't be happier.
Avoid using this contractor. Not reliable, does not stand behind their work. Glad we had GAF Warranty on the new roof, GAF covered exterior repair cost. However, interior water damage repair cost was our responsibility. Do not use this firm.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! HEED THE WARNINGS! They are not builders. They subcontract everything. They hire hack crews that can't and won't communicate. Their contracts are bs. The roof they did may be ok, pending building inspector, but I have my doubts. The siding and windows they did are a total hack job. They charged me $40k. Promised great crews. Told windows had to be done before siding, then told it was ok to do the after the siding. They put the siding guy on putting in my windows, which he googled how to in my driveway in front of my wife. They were told to stop and remove the crew and didn't. Tried to convince us that the finished product is what's important. We were told we don't know what we're talking about, but I'm in construction. Thanks to covid I didn't have time to undertake the project myself, or I would have. Now I have to pay another builder to fix their mess. And spend time in litigation. Thanks Dan, Rick, Mike, and Jesus for a total shoddy job. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
UPDATE: ***
Dan the owner was just at my house with the city inspector, his lawyer and a worker. After my wife and I started to call him out on the shoddy job done to our house he got very angry. To the point of getting in my face trying to provoke me to start a fight. Real professional. Then I was called a money-grubbing liar and my wife a money grubbing***.
Avalon put a new roof on our house in 2016, before we moved in
Avalon put a new roof on our house in 2016, before we moved in. The previous owner had bought a roof warranty back then. This year in October, we had a roof leak. The warranty company reached out to Avalon to fix our roof and sent them an email to approve an inspection. I contacted Avalon many times in the next 2 weeks to schedule this because our roof was still leaking. They kept saying they never got the email from the warranty company, which was weird because email is instant. The lady I talked to got really aggressive when I questioned why they didn't get the email. She told me the warranty company was lying about sending the approval. The 3 people I dealt with from Avalon were all super unprofessional and didn't care about my concern. I tried to work things out with one of their employees, but he also didn't care and didn't want to help. Finally, another company came to inspect the roof (they came the day after the warranty company sent the approval) and they couldn't believe our roof was only 6 years old. They said it was clearly a bad installation and there were many holes from the improper job. I've talked to several builders now and they all say Avalon has a really bad reputation in the building community. I'm glad we found another company to fix our roof, and I would avoid Avalon at all costs.
I used Avalon cuz I've used Polaris windows in other houses and they're an installer of these windows
I used Avalon cuz I've used Polaris windows in other houses and they're an installer of these windows. I've had issues with one window that keeps crackin' for no reason. So when I worked with their sales person, I was real clear that I wanted to replace my 6x6 picture window with smaller windows that got sliders on each side for air flow and to stop the crackin' (don't know why this one cracks when the 5x6 above it don't and every contractor who checked it says it shouldn't). I also made it real clear I wanted somethin' with a warranty 'cause of the crackin'. Well, turns out Avalon ain't a company of their word. The sales person told me we were gettin' sliders and we'd have a warranty. I shoulda read the fine print on every detail from this company. The windows they ordered weren't what was quoted - and they cost more too. I ended up with crank out windows instead of sliders, which I didn't realize 'til they were installed. And now the window has cracked again and they're sayin' I don't have a warranty. They're right, I signed without readin', so my bad. Just wanna let others know - DON'T TRUST THEM. Now they want $2200 (only part of the window) to replace the glass on a full window set that cost only $1900 less than 2 years ago (window included a center picture and 2 side cranks). The lesson learned is don't trust Avalon. Their work seemed good, but they're sneaky and I was lied to in my own home. No integrity and that's somethin' you can count on from them. Before puttin' this post up, we've tried to connect with a manager. Instead of addressin' this, they've ignored our contact for over 2 weeks. This is what you can expect if anything goes wrong.
Avalon called me about a roofing quote
Avalon called me about a roofing quote. We agreed on a price. They kept saying it would only take a day, maybe a day and a half to finish and clean up. They started on Monday. It took them almost two weeks to finish, last Thursday. I had to pick up nails every day they were here in my driveway. The roofers never mentioned any issues with the damaged deck. The next day, I told them to stay off the deck. One of them said, "Oh, I noticed that when I was picking up the tarp. It wasn't like that when I put the tarp down." On Monday, I contacted Avalon about the damage and asked about an agreement to pay the remaining bill. Two employees came on Wednesday. One was really rude, pushy, and tried to bully me. He said we would resolve it before he left in a threatening way. He also said, "I will leave with a check, Honey" on another occasion. I wanted him to write down the deck repair plans and financial compensation if I chose to go elsewhere. He refused to put it in writing. When I asked him to, he said, "You understand English, right?" When I asked him to repeat what he said in front of my significant other, his attitude changed. He realized there was a man in the house and a witness to his rude and bullying behavior. I have never been treated so disrespectfully by a business. This morning, the owner called and apologized. I was surprised it was the owner himself. This happened to me, so be warned.

They will take your money up front and you will not hear from them at all
They will take your money up front and you will not hear from them at all. Â You'll call them (repeatedly) trying to get updates, but you may get an answer every month or so. Â When the job actually does get done, it's not complete and you'll have to try to contact someone to FIX STUFF six weeks after the job. Â Plus they WAY OVERCHARGE for items and services that they didn't even do, but I don't even care anymore because they screwed me over so much. And don't deal with Doug

Last summer we had our roof done after a chance encounter with Will Zambrana at a local gas station
Last summer we had our roof done after a chance encounter with Will Zambrana at a local gas station. He mentioned they were working on a neighbor's roof. Since we live in Stevensville, MI and Avalon is headquartered in Grand Rapids, I wasn't sure if this was a good idea to have them do our roof work. We met again at my house and Will walked us through all the options and what to expect. It was an excellent experience and I highly recommend their roofing services. Great price and very good attention to detail.
We just had our roof replaced and the entire process has gone smoothly
We just had our roof replaced and the entire process has gone smoothly. My wife and I appreciate Jonathan's patience with us in the quote/discussion process as we had to deal with a family medical emergency. He thoroughly explained product recommendations and the process. And the crew that came out was amazing and cranked out the work in a day. Though I must admit there are far more exciting things on which to spend money, the roof looks great and I found the price to be very competitive. My wife and I recommend them.

We highly recommend Avalon Building Concepts
We highly recommend Avalon Building Concepts. Avalon sales reps, James and Will, addressed the ventilation problems on our roof by installing smart vents and more ridge vents. They advised us to contact our homeowners insurance company after the roof work and we received a discount on our policy. They were either on site or immediately available by phone during the entire process to answer questions. The roofing crew were dependable, hard working and did a thorough cleanup. We are very pleased with the looks of our high rated shingles.
My ridge vents were coming apart only 3-years after installation
My ridge vents were coming apart only 3-years after installation. The or original company that installed the roof was unresponsive to my phone calls, txt's and emails. When I visited their shop, it was closed. Sign said "We're on the job site.", but still never any subsequent responses! I called Avalon and was met with an immediate response investigating the problem, offering a solution with a reasonable price, and finally, an efficient installation complete with before, during and after pictures to verify their work. The crew was professional, friendly and knowledgable. Completely satisfied with Avalon, Randy the sales rep, the Office folks and the crew.

I signed a contract on 6/2 for new countertops, costing $2100
I signed a contract on 6/2 for new countertops, costing $2100. I wrote a check for $1050, which was half of the total amount. However, they haven't contacted me to schedule the work. I've texted the sales representative seven times and sent two emails. We just want the work to be done or our money refunded.
I hired Avalon Building Concepts, Inc
I hired Avalon Building Concepts, Inc. to install 30 windows and a double door back in October ***. I paid them the full amount, but unfortunately, they still haven't delivered the products. I really hope they fulfill their end of the contract and deliver the windows soon. I paid them $30,000 for this, so it's important that they follow through.
Vent pipe boot cracked, not under warranty and roof responsibility
Vent pipe boot cracked, not under warranty and roof responsibility. I talked to the roof warranty about my vent pipe boot. According to their warranty, Avalon Building Concepts is responsible for fixing it since it's not included in their product description. I contacted Avalon Building Concepts on March 6 and spoke to a guy named ***. He told me it's up to the roof warranty to address the problem, but that's wrong. Avalon should be the one to repair the vent boot on my roof.

In March 20, I cashed out a check for 6k to Avalon Building Concepts, Inc
In March 20, I cashed out a check for 6k to Avalon Building Concepts, Inc. Unfortunately, I never received any services from them. Dealing with the owners was a real challenge, as they were very condescending. On March 3, we had Mike T come out to measure for siding, which was supposed to be complimentary. He gave us a quote and, unfortunately, we signed the contract and gave him a check for 6k. The check was cashed in just 3 days. The work was supposed to start at the end of May, but due to the pandemic, my husband's job was downsized and we decided not to proceed with their services. We also noticed numerous 1-star reviews, which made us realize that we didn't want to do business with this company. Rick told me to get a lawyer and he even provided names for me. Dan and Rick are really rude and act like bullies. They know they have the upper hand since they have our 6k. I tried to text and email Mike, but got no response. I also emailed Avalon, but received no response either. Finally, I spoke with Rick and got nowhere. During this time, we had another company give us a quote and they told us that our siding doesn't need to be replaced, it just needs a power wash and paint. Please help us. Thank you!
A guy from Avalon Building Concepts came to my house on 3/31
A guy from Avalon Building Concepts came to my house on 3/31. He wanted to see my attic and measured it to check if I needed any OSB wood. He mentioned something about falling into code and wrote down on a scrap piece of paper what he would provide and the amount. I agreed and asked for the scrap paper. He said he would write it up but never went over the contract with me. He just had me sign it without mentioning anything about needing OSB or any additional costs. Avalon stripped my roof and then I received a phone call saying I needed to pay an extra $3700 for 51 OSB to meet code. I was confused and didn't understand what they were saying. I expressed my unhappiness but had no choice but to agree because they had already stripped my roof. I called and spoke to someone named *** and told him what I thought was a fair price. He said he would get back to me. In the end, I just paid what I thought was fair, which came to a total of $7020.0.
I hired Avalon Building Concepts in July for a roof job
I hired Avalon Building Concepts in July for a roof job. They said it would take 24-48 hrs, but nobody came to do it. I had to call a bunch of times to find out when they were coming. They finally finished after a whole week. They left stuff behind, like nails in my driveway and old shingles all over the yard. The contract said they would use 2X4s to block off the roof and soffit area where raccoons were getting in. But guess what? The raccoons came back and got in again. I checked and there were no 2X4s like they said. The company said they can fix it on 06/08, but that's their mistake and it's not right. This is not cool.
I contacted Avalon to fix a water leak
I contacted Avalon to fix a water leak. I was sold a window I didn't need and the leak was not fixed. The salesman won't return my calls. I contacted Avalon to fix a water leak. I was sold a window I didn't need and the leak was not fixed. Jonathan K came out and said the leak was coming from a faulty "U" channel in the window. He estimated $1650 and 4-6 week installation. I gave him an $800 deposit. It took 12 weeks to install the window on 1/31. He claimed the delay was caused by a holiday shutdown. It was supposed to be installed before the holidays. When the window was installed, Mike the installer noticed the leak was coming from above the window somewhere. I called Johnathan immediately, left a voicemail and never received a call back. Mike asked who the salesman was. When I told him, he said that he should have known better, windows don't leak water when they fail. Mike said that Johnathan should have done a better inspection and that he would send him a text. I never heard back from Johnathan. I called Johnathan again on Feb. 3, left a voicemail explaining the situation and did not receive a call back. Since then, I have contacted another company to fix the leak. After inspection, he said the leak was most likely coming from the roof valley above the window. I will be installing a new roof when the weather warms up. To summarize it, I contacted Avalon to fix a water leak. I was sold a window I didn't need and the leak was not fixed. I don't believe I should be responsible for the price of the window. It was not the problem, and they did not fix the problem.
I hired Avalon Building Concepts to replace my ****
I hired Avalon Building Concepts to replace my ***. They informed me that there were two very bad spots in my ***, which I already knew because I had leaks in my living room and bedroom. They completed the *** at the end of June. The workers were unprofessional, and my family did not feel safe. We spoke with the salesman who came and talked with the workers, which only made them angry. They broke a trailer in the backyard and never replaced the wood in the soft spots on the ***. Additionally, they broke the gutters and gutter covers. After the work was done, we had the salesman and his boss come out, and they agreed that it was not done correctly. They sent someone out to fix the *** and chimney, but due to rain, they only completed the ***. Another person was sent to fix the chimney, but he did not feel comfortable doing it. While he was there, I had him look at the *** on the garage, where they failed to replace the wood in three spots. Instead, they put cheap metal on the corners, which were not even attached to the ***. If you walked on it, you would fall through. He took pictures and sent them to the company, who then sent the same workers who did the *** to begin with. I called and told them I did not want them here and to send someone else. They informed me that they had already fixed the chimney and would not do anything else until they were paid in full. I told them they would get paid when the *** was done, not until then. They also removed all the materials that I paid for and did not use. Now they are threatening me with a lien on my house. The *** is supposed to be good for 25 years, but with the bad wood underneath, I will be lucky to get 5 years out of it. I now have to hire another company to come and finish the ***.
Subpar work at best
Work at best. Tried to bait and switch. Promised work not completed by deadline—nearly one year and still not complete. I am a long-time customer of Avalon, having had two roofs, windows, and cabinetry installed. I contacted Avalon for a kitchen and bathroom remodel in late Oct or early Nov 2019 and was promised completion by Christmas 2019. Made multiple calls to Avalon asking why work hadn't started. After weeks, someone responded, saying the salesman needed to 'speak with me.' The salesman, Gus, admitted he 'under-estimated' the job, requiring over $1k more than quoted. I agreed, needing the work done. It took months to start, and workers were inconsistent. The quality was poor: a crooked kitchen countertop, a too-long backsplash, self-painted walls, an un-replaced cracked backsplash, lifting floors, and dangerously protruding nails. Despite my availability, I faced constant rescheduling. The work remains unfinished, and I refuse to pay the 'balance' owed. I paid a $1.7k deposit in good faith and don't expect it back, but I won't pay more. It will cost what I 'owe' Avalon to finish the work properly and promptly.
I was promised things that weren't delivered
I was promised things that weren't delivered. They said I would get the best workers and high-quality work, but that didn't happen. Avalon installed a new roof for me. I've seen their name all over town, so I thought they must be good. What a mistake. The salesman they sent, Chris, seemed nice at first. He was attentive and willing to help. But that changed once we paid and signed the contract. He gave us a quote, and we agreed. Then he called me and said I needed new boards, and the city wouldn't approve the job unless I paid an extra $4500. The project had already started, so I felt trapped. I reluctantly approved it. Later, when I went home to check the work, I noticed areas without new wood. I called Chris to discuss it. He acted like I was asking for a new car when all I wanted was the new wood that I had already paid for. He ignored my wife and left in a huff. The job was finished in three days, and it was terrible. I couldn't communicate with any of the workers because none of them spoke English. The trim work and finer details were awful. Even my kid could have done a better job. Plus, I haven't heard from anyone at Avalon to check on how the job went. They even left a full dumpster in my yard for days after they finished. No contact at all. This is one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company. They only care about getting your money. Once they have it, you're on your own. How in the world are they AAA rated? Very disappointing. This $30,000 mistake shouldn't happen to anyone else. They shouldn't be allowed to do any more roofs. Imagine what they do to people's homes. Unbelievable.
We hired Avalon to remodel our kitchen in June
We hired Avalon to remodel our kitchen in June . We paid a down payment of $16,000.00+ and they said they would start in about 4 weeks. However, they didn't start until 10 weeks later on August 26. The demo crew came in, but then there was another week of waiting before actual construction started on September 9. It took them a long time to finish the kitchen because of miscommunications and getting the necessary parts. Finally, on October 19, the construction was completed.
On November 1, Gus, one of the managers, came to inspect the job. I told him about the things that needed to be fixed to complete the job. He promised to come the next day to fix them, but he asked for full payment before leaving. Unfortunately, I paid him in full, trusting that he would keep his word. However, he never showed up the next day or any day after that. I emailed him on December 3, but received no response. I tried contacting him again on January 5, but still got no response.
In February, we saw the company at the Home Remodeling show and told them that the job was not done. They said they thought it was and promised to write up a new work order to complete the job. However, nothing happened. We saw them again in March at the Home Show and I expressed my frustration about the repairs not being done. The person I spoke with said they would call me the next day, but once again, I received no call or visit from the company.
In early April, during the Covid-19 lockdown, I called them and the person I spoke with said they would arrange a time to start working again once the shutdown was over. Contractors were allowed to return to work about 3 weeks ago, but I still haven't heard from them. This was a job worth over $40,000.00+ and I am extremely dissatisfied as a customer. I just want them to come and take care of the issues.
I called Avalon Building Concepts, Inc
I called Avalon Building Concepts, Inc. because I had a leak in my roof. They were supposed to fix it within the warranty period, but they never called me back. I tried calling them again, but still no response. Eventually, the brown spots on my ceiling started to grow, and water started coming into my house. I left messages with their answering service, but still no reply. Finally, I called again and spoke to someone who said they would check the call log and get back to me. A contractor from Avalon called me and confirmed that the snow and ice shield was not installed properly, causing the leaks. He told me to call Avalon and ask for a repair service. I called Avalon again and spoke to someone from the windows department who assured me that they would fix the issue for free since it was still under warranty. However, I didn't hear back from them for several days. I called again and had a lengthy conversation, and they finally agreed to put in a service call. They scheduled a time for the roofing guy to come out and fix my roof. However, he didn't show up on the scheduled day and had to come the next day instead. He confirmed that the snow and ice shield was installed incorrectly and said it would be fixed soon. However, my roof is still not fixed.
