Bankers life and casualty
The only pleasant experience I have had with Bankers Life and Causality is with the man that sold me the policy. Any little question you have takes forever on hold on the phone. They shunt you from phone to phone. You cannot email, scan and upload. You have to fax or go to the post office and mail communications and important forms. Fax numbers don't always work. Customer service reps are rude and often do not understand what you tell them the first time bc English is not their best language. The customer service reps lie and say they need your policy number to give you a phone number of someone who can help. These are some miserable people.
Recommendation: Don't get a policy from Bankers Life and Casuality

Long term care claims dept.
We have repeatedly called Bankers Life only to be told we need to submit the required paperwork, which has now been submitted three times with no satisfaction. We are given the same run around each time we call: "the check will be sent out in 30 days" after 30 days there is no payment so we call again only to be told "you have to submit the required paperwork". This frustrating cycle has been perpetuated since our father passed in June of this year, 2023. When we asked to be connected with a supervisor we are given the run around yet again, being told "there is no supervisor available", when we ask for one to contact us when one is available we never hear from them again. We are angry, upset and extremely frustrated which at this point we can only assume is exactly the what Bankers Life wants.
Claimed loss: 5 months of pain and suffering with no financial return.
Desired outcome: Send us the money we are due post haste!
I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Banker's Life and Casualty today and I feel your pain. These people play that game where they wear you out so you will give up. They want your policy number when they don't need it, they want you to establish a user ID and password, blah, blah, blah. I'm on the hunt for a better provider.
Negligence in tax information
Our Mother Eileen Renier, SS [protected], died in 2021. Eileen owned an annuity valued at $121,000 plus. Payouts were made to the beneficiaries. Spring 2022 Bankers life sent out a 1099 in Eileens name for that amount and we immediately filed her taxes. Shortley thereafter. Bankers sent the beneficaries their 1099s including their sum of the $121,000. We all...

The "service" representative on the [protected] is very rude and unhelpful. I have left messages with her (Jan 1, Jan 2) and no one calls me back. I explained to her several times on the last call that I could not hear or understand her, but she does not seem to care.
I asked several times to speak to her supervisor, and she simply refused, saying she had no way to transfer me. If true, this is an interesting way to run a business.
She insisted she could not even give my message to anyone without providing my date of birth. Naturally, I refused to provide this personal information. You should instruct your service person not to demand personal identifying information from callers, as there is a risk of identity theft.
It would be nice if you had a more pleasant and helpful person answering the calls, since it is the service line. And you might want to make sure she is actually giving the messages to people, because my ex-husband has been having the same issue — leaves messages, gets no calls back, and he holds the health care proxy for the policy holder. The situation is very frustrating.
Desired outcome: I would like to never have to speak to that infuriating representative again. However you make that happen is fine. Also please return calls.

Lying Cold Calling Agent at My Home
Bankers Life Agent Janeen Shuhaiber left a handwritten note on my door soliciting business. Her phone number is [protected]. I live in a gated guarded community with many elderly citizens that I am protective of. When she answered her phone, she said she was in this Community visiting another client but wouldn't say who or what street they live on. She had to have lied to the gate guard to get in here.
Desired outcome: She needs to be fired.
be glad she left a note identifying herself and not multiple unsolicited phone calls as I am sure you get every day! We pride ourselves on looking out for our Seniors and harassing them. By the way, I am a senior and a Veteran and am happy to be educated on insurance I missed out on as a young adult.
Long term health care
My name is James Hunter. My father has a policy under the same name. [protected]. I had to move him to a skilled nursing center in February of this year. Since then I have not recieved one payment from you. Only because I moved my father to another facility. Nobody there seems to know how to make an address change. I am at my wits end with your company. I have called numerous times to try to fix this also the office manager at his present facility has been more than coropative with your company. What can you do to fix this. I have never seen anything like this in my life. Its always pass the buck to the next person.
Desired outcome: Lets get some payments out to my dad. He paid on this policy for over 20 years and now this.
Life Insurance Policy Number: [protected] - Unethical Behavior
Toward end of October, 2021, Insurance Agent Elizabeth Ulmer, and left a message that I wished to cancel my policy. About 2 weeks she left me a message, she got my notice but she couldn't find my policy. A week later she and agent James Hatcher showed up, she wrote a note on a sheet of paper,
stating that I wanted to cancel my policy, dated it and made me sign it. In spite of her promise to be in touch, I haven't heard from her. On December 17, 2021, I discovered that 2 premium payments, 11/17/21 and 12/17/21, had been drawn from my bank account. I called the main office immediately and left a complaint. James called me the same day promising to straighten out the whole thing. On 12/20/21, Elizabeth called me, promised to return the payments and issue me a refund. She blamed the holidays for the delay. I called the main office on 01/14/22, and found out that they never received any cancelation form regarding my policy. I received the refund on 01/16/22, almost 3 months since my first call.
Desired outcome: I want to get compensated for the time my money was withheld from me because of negligence and unprofessional behavior of your agent.
Long Term Care Insurance
I have called them many times about my mother's policy regards to approved hours for in home care and get a different answer each time. I never can get a supervisor. The customer care agent either says they cannot connect me or refuse to. I always get customer care out of the country and never an agent in the United States. I cannot even get a number to a Bankers Life to get an answer to my questions. My local service office is not the original rep and they can only help to give me the same 800 number that I already have. The agent says he doesn't have the information as to who I talk to get any help with my complaints.
We have so many complaints that it would take me years to type.
I have paid thousands of dollars to this policy and I should be able to use it as many hours I need to for my mother's care and to keep her out of a nursing home.
I want 24-7 care giver hours for in home care. I have had to fight to get 4 hours 7 days a week and 2 extra hours for travel time to and from doctors' offices and never get any hours for emergency care when the care giver has to go to the emergency room after their shift to stay with my mother until family arrives. I just had a customer service agent tell me she didn't know what the problem was because she saw on her policy, my mother had been approved for 24 hours 7days a week for care by the Rep (first name) Jean just before Thanksgiving.
I am at the end of my rope and NEED HELP.
I feel once Bankers Life gets a customer on their hook, get the money for the purchased policy, they throw the customer in the garbage pile.
Desired outcome: Answers to my questions and 24-7 care giver hours NOW
I completely agree with your frustrations. My father paid on his and my mom's long term care policy for over 20 years and to date this company did not pay one single cent for anything. Six months prior to my dad's death, i finally convinced him to stop paying the policy premiums after i had spent countless hours on the phone, faxing stuff back and forth, only in the end to receive a letter (hundreds of letters) stating the expense was not a qualified expense. The last straw was the ambulance bill. I can honestly say, my father was simply throwing away his money for an absolutely worthless contract. It sickens me to think that during their retirement years over $45k was just ... thrown away! I have told every member of my family about Bankers Life, as well as every client and friend i have. I think it would only be fair for the company to reimburse my parent's estate for the entirety of these premiums. Sincerely, Kelly L. Burns
dishwasher
I purchased Bankers Life warranty for several expensive kitchen appliances from Famous Tate in Lutz Fl. I purchased the 5 year warranty. On May 28th, A and E, the repair company sent by bankers life, tried unsuccessfully to stop the sound that is emitted approximately every 10 seconds from the dishwasher. After going through every possibility, and calling Whirlpool directly for help, the repairman determined it had to do with the motherboard and ordered 2 parts that would come to my home.
I received a part almost immediately, however, it was determined to be the wrong part. I was extremely patient, understanding with Covid that there might be a delay.
On August 16th I called A and E and was informed that I needed to call Bankers Life Warranty Center. My contract stated that after 21 days, I was to either receive my money back or receive a new appliance; but I needed to call bankers life myself if they did not call me in 24-48 hours. Kendall sent Bankers the information the 16th. I never heard from Bankers and so I call on August 26th. I called Bankers and was informed that A and E only had 1 resource to find parts and Bankers had several and I would receive a call back soon. she, Mary, would keep in touch with me. Never heard from her again.
I called Sept. 13th and spoke with Sheila. I asked for a supervisor. She assured me she would escalate the call. Never heard from her or a supervisor.
I called A Tate representative who said that he would try to assist. Never heard from him.
Called Bankers Sept 17th. I was informed that i was called on Sept 14th. I informed Imelda that neither my phone or my husbands phone had a message left by anyone from Bankers Life and I do not answer phone numbers I do not have registered on my phone. I asked her to have a supervisor email me or text me when they would call me and I would answer an unregistered phone number. I asked her to inform her supervisor that I wanted them to abide by their warranty and get me a new dishwasher.
I feel that I have been more than patient and at this point Bankers needs to provide the service I paid for.
Rose Greenbaum
Desired outcome: new dishwasher
Death benefits fraud
My mother had a number of policies through Bankers Life including at least five annuities. My brother filed a guardianship petition against her years ago when both her neurologist and psychiatrist said she was not incapacitated. The case was settled through mediation and mom was not forced to live with my brother and his wife as they had planned...

We are a provider for a policy holder of Banker's Life. We are missing 3 payments spanning back to January this year. This all due to the inept customer service department. I have tried to update the payment address to our company for 5 months with no avail. It took 3 months to get results but those results were incorrect. We are now receiving a policy holders EOB, meaning they updated the address to the wrong recipient. I have reached out to Banker's Life an additional 2 times resulting in just getting different requests with no results.
Desired outcome: UPDATE THE ADDRESS PAYMENTS GO TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read full review of Bankers Lifefake interview and bait and switch for appointments
I'd lump them in the insurance mlms. I was looking on indeed. Bankers life contacted me and set up an interview.
I went to the 1st interview thinking it would be a normal style interview. I was lead into a room where a bunch of other people were also waiting for an interview. The room was filled with 70" TVs and iPads and other expensive electronics and prizes.
They talked about the job to all of us which mostly focused on all the sales insensitives surrounding us that were so much they had to store them there and free vacations for top earners and how he just got a 50k bonus check from the company.
At the end they had us take quiz/survey type things that tell how good you'd be at the job and what kind of sales person you'd be.
For the second interview I was told I "aced the test"...I'm sure now everyone did. The second interview didn't want to know anything about me or my work history. It was just them asking me for my questions so they could brag while answering them.
Then I got a 3rd interview where I was told they'd love to have me. But my license wasn't enough. I ended up paying out of my pocket for their online company and product specific training.
Once I paid for and completed that I started working. I was an independent contractor with no wages or PTO or benefits. Yet I was required to be In The office cold calling people from 745 am to 4 pm but couldn't leave at 4 pm without a speech about how I can't succeed And am not dedicated enough if I don't stay late (keep in mind I had a baby at home and was not an employee I was an independent contractor with no w4 and no compensation or overtime for paying late pick-up fees to do so at the daycare and not being home with my baby)
I also had to pay monthly fees to use their office supplies since I wasn't an employee even though I was literally required to be there and use their stuff.
I noticed all the big expensive prizes were gone and then noticed it was empty boxes kept in a back closet and carried to the interview room for their presentations where they then told interviews that they had so many prizes and insentives that they had no choice but to store them in the conference/ interview room.
They started asking if I knew anyone else that would want to get their license and join. They wanted me to make a list of family and friends in the job market so they could reach out.
I made $45 in a month there and spent more than that to start. Not to mention all the gas from forcing me to spend my nights and weekends driving to a town 2 hours away to cold door knock with no pay since. And the you're not trying hard enough or dedicated enough speech for the 2 days I couldn't drive to the town 2 hours away for cold door knocking sales because I didn't have the gas money because there was no paychecks and I had to buy diapers for the baby. And the list of addresses was from some database of all people in that zip code over the age of 65.
They target the elderly in lower income areas with fixed incomes trying to talk them into buying or switching insurance. It's a bait and switch. I had to read from a script saying that there have been changes to their Medicare and to start suggesting appointment times to come drop off their information about it until either they finally agreed to a time or hung up. There was never any changes to their Medicare. We had to say that to scare them to get our foot in the door and once at their house start trying to talk them into buying life insurance and stuff that had nothing to do with their Medicare.

job interview, sales, management position
I was called by Pam Donnelly a recruiter for Bankers Inc. She told me that my resume experience was perfect for a management position for their new office located in Tampa FL. She said that Bankers success in Sarasota is now expanding to Tampa and currently looking for a new office and new executives for the branch.
With out much other detail, she wanted me to go to the Sarasota Office for an interview the very next day at 10:30 am with the Office Manager. I mentioned that I was on vacation with my kids but will surely change my plans to attend the interview.
After the call, I called and emailed her back requesting for a job description including further written clarification on the compensation package.
Pam Donnelly said - " Bill, As I stated, I am the recruiter, the office manager will provide that information to you".
So, of course I politely asked again in slightly different terms for some type of information about the actually job.
Again, she reinforced that all the information will be provided at the job interview.
Having been a recruiter for years, I always provided a job description, company profile and compensation structure to the applicant. So, after further digging online, I discovered the position is basically a commission only sales position within a sales/marketing pyramid format.
You sell to friends, they sell to their friends and so and so on. That's how you make money. Not a real job, but selling something to your friends to resell to others, over and over again within the pyramid scheme.
So beware folks...Don't waste your time with Pam Donnelly or Bankers...
life insurance
I am the beneficiary of a life insurance policy that was approved by Bankers Life and Casualty Company. The policy was approved January 17, 2013 and the policy holder died March 30, 2013. I perfectly understand that the policy was contestable and they did their investigation and came back and claimed misrepresentation and voided the policy. The problem, in South Carolina an insurer must prove intent to defraud to void a policy. A jury must decide if the insurer has proven by clear and convincing evidence if the insured intentionally provided incorrect information in the life insurance application. Bankers never got the policy declared void by the court and still refuses to pay the claim. Bankers is taking this stance because the policy holder died within 90 days of receiving the life insurance policy and did not get but 234.00 worth of premiums out of him.
life insurance
I applied for a whole life policy with them for$40, 000! After having a physical, I was told I was accepted & was charged & paid by check on 7/1/17 the amnt of $236.19. I received a letter today stating I was NOT approved! During the time I THOUGHT I was approved, I received a phone call from 2 other agents I had been working with to inform me I was approved thru their company. Of course I didn't accept it because I THOUGHT I already been approved by Banker's Life! So far they have had my $ & I thgt I had insurance! I MAY get my $ back next week, but have NO insurance!
Death benefits denied, for entering hospice
Brian Hill from Pitts. Bankers life and casualty co. sold my mother life insurance, without any of us kids knowing, now my mom thought she was doing a good thing $10, 000 policy, a year before she died. one week or so before she died
we had to have hospice come in, NOW, I called Briian to let him know this, he never said anything about the policy to me . Well the night before mom went to the hospice center, my brother and I called Brian again, told him the nurse and mom together decided it was imperative that she go in. So in all fairness my mom was sane and thinkin straight before she went in. Unfortunately she died the next day. death benefits are death benefits, right? we called Brian let him know, then the run around started, after two months of 'it`s still in review", we were told since she was in Hospice when she died, we would recieve no benefits. BBB is going to be notified immediatly! I am not goin to stand for that answer, if my mom was told her benefits would not be paid if she entered Hospice, she never would have done that, my mom would have toughed it out on her own at home. whats wrong with dying with dignity.
they lie their policy
They lie about my husband life insurance, they had no intention of giving me, my husband insurance money their company lies even after I send them a copy of his death certificate, with the right date on there .they still didn't pay anything on his policy.and he pass away on 11/26/2011.they lie.don't get a policy with t hi s company's because your family will get nothing.they don't care.I have got 30 letters in one month.all saying the same thing they are sorry it is out of their hands.they had no intention of paying me anything.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
