Inactive account fee
Just when I thought banks had fees for everything.
I had 4 accounts with compass and while all the accounts were Free Checking they managed to apply a fee of $5.00 per month for 2 years because the account was INACTIVE!
I called the branch and the 800 service they told me in 2006 they sent a statement our explaining that accounts that were not being used would be changed a service fee of $5.00 per month.
So much for letting your money sit in a back. I didn't use any of the accounts for nearly 3 years then when I got back in state I found money missing. The manager told me if I transfered a Penny every 6 months no fees would be applied. If this doesn't take the prize for STUPID FEES I don't know what does. How much does it cost to not do anything with your bank? According to Compass $5.00 per month.

Excessive nsf fees
Account holder for over 7 years and I mistakely used the wrong card for a purchase resulting in an overdraft in my Compass acct.
Compass rearranged the only other draft made to the acct. within the last two weeks (even though it had showed clear prior to the accidental charge) so that additional fees could be imposed. So $76.00 in for one mess up and then since I do not live near a branch.. I was unable to make a deposit quickly and they tacked $7.00 a day on for each day the acct. was overdrawn for 21 days! So for one charge of $395.00 - Compass charged my $226.00 if fees! That is an awfully expensive short term loan... and I never asked for it-- The way that they process transactions are intended to clear larger debits first which makes it more likely that they can charge more NSF or overdraft fees for all the small charges that wont clear because of the larger going thru first. Deceptive at best and completely unethical to charge someone for a loan they did not apply for and one in which the terms didn't have to be disclosed until after the fact.
How is this legal? COMPASS BANK BBVA makes millions in profit from overdraft & penalty charges alone annually! Wake up consumers and stand up for your rights-------------- we shouldn't be paying high interest loans for debit transactions!

I agree! I was charge over 26 INF chargers for 3 items. They held a deposite which would have covered my charges for 48.00. How can this be legal. What can we do...Help!
I last checked my account and I have $11 which is not a lot. I then notic that there was a pending charge of $9.74. I spent $4 on food and I went $2 under.. The next day they smack on 3 NSF charges.. Not 1.. 3 on the same day! I'm paying them $112 for a little $2 mistake! I'm sorry but I can't stay in a bank like this.. I'm afraid I'll go from $100 to -$200 in a week without spending a dime.
BBVA Compass has gotten me 4 times in the past 2 days. It looks like NSF charges cover only 2 transactions but I am being charged per day. At $38 dollars a pop that is $152! I put money in to cover my error yesterday and they show taking out today $38 in NFS then $30 to cover a check which makes it go negative again and they charge another $38. Only I don't understand the $38 charge as I was positive on the account. What is going on with the bank? I had $55 in to cover the $30.
I have a business account with BBVA.
A deposit that should have been made last Monday was not made until Tuesday.
On Monday night, 50 checks hit my account that overdrew it by $266.00. (All of the checks except two were for under $50. There were two large checks.) Compass carged a $38 fee on 44 of the checks, for a total of $1672 on NSF fees on a $266 overdraft. When I made the deposit on Tuesday in person, they did NOT tell me about this. Thus, my account was overdrawn again. On Tueday night, more checks it. NONE of these checks would have overdrawn the account had they not carged me $1672 in NSF fees on a $266 overdraft. On Tuesday night, they charged me for another 29 checks @ $38 each. By the time I found out abotu it two days later, and transferred more money into the account, that had charge me $4, 978 in fees on a $266 overdraft.
I went to the store to get gas in my gas tank for the lawn mower and went to the grocery store and had an available balance of $40.00. I had forgotten that one of the items pending had a $6.00 tip that had not cleared and when it cleared it caused us to go over by $2.50. So basically I got 8 NSF charges for going over by $2.50 to equal a total of $304.00 in fees. The processed everything from high to low and even took out the NSF fees before all the other small charges. I also made two cash deposits ($120.00) and ($200.00) which did not show up until Midnight two days later. I have other bank accounts and this had never happened. It happens all the time with Compass Bank. I hate Compass Bank and I am cancelling the bank account this week and moving to Wells Fargo/Wachovia or Bank of America and opting out of overdraft protection. Compass won't even let you opt out if you choose not to have it. I would rather the embarrassment of having my card rejected than being charged $300.00 for a $2 dollar mistake.
Have to say I agree with all the complaints.
Yep, same experience here. Made a subtraction error in my register which I keep faithfully and went -$9.32 (that's right, not even $10.00.) overdrawn. Compass has now charged me close to $300.00 in service fees and I have never even come close to bouncing a check with them before. I went in person to the bank and was told they couldn't help me with the matter other than to caution me that they "always process debits before credits". The manager at my branch told me that they take out debits and checks before they process deposits (on the same business day). I then called the toll free number (I certainly would never call it customer service) and got a completely illiterate man who after listening to my story said, "uhhhh, you'll have to call back later, uh, uh, our system is down". He was rude and unhelpful and I now seriously doubt their systems were down. I initially opened this checking account online but ended up having to go into a branch (45 miles away from my home) because there were so many problems. I foolishly funded my account electronically from another checking account. They removed the money from my other account and yet didn't credit my new account at their bank for almost a week. I made numerous phone calls to try and figure out where my $500.00 bucks was. Once my account was open it was six weeks until I had my two debit cards and several months before I had checks with my correct address and two more months and five trips to the branch to get the cost of my checks re-imbursed to me since the bank kept having the incorrect address printed on the checks. Of course I never even got an apology...so I guess I shouldn't even be surprised at all the complaints I've read tonight about BBVA Compass Bank...apparently I'm not the only customer that they have ripped off recently...Yep, I got sucked in by promises of no ATM fees or service charges - that is a total lie. The first time I got an ATM fee I took my statement to the branch...was told I would have to send in the withdrawal slip (which of course I had already shredded) but the teller couldn't even give me the address to send the slips to, she said I should be able to figure it out online. Terrible customer service from day one - I only have myself to blame for sticking with them too long!
never will bank with them again
From day 1 I have had nothing but problems with compass bank. I have only had the account for 6 months. I havent had a bank in a while until i opened up this account. (after my dilemas with compass it may be another long while to trust another bank) I just called tonight to check my balance since ive had so many previous issues before. It said i was negative $91.00. I was floored because i last went to a compass atm 2 weeks ago to withdraw $260 from my checking account which i knew was in there because i called to check the balance and did a balance inquiry, mind you from the compass bank atm, verifying the money was in there. My gut was telling me to call tonight and then I spoke to rep whom told me that there was a $2 atm fee on the same night of the withdrawal. I could not understand why since i went to my own bank's atm to avoid fees in the first place. The rep told me that they charge an atm fee and since it put my account negative they charged me $38 and then another $38 for it being negative 6 days and then $7 per day until it is put positive again. I could not understand since i have been to a compass atm before (not the same machine) with no issues. The rep told me that the fee assess depending on which atm location it is although its my own bank's. I contested the amount and wanted a manager. He then said they cannot credit my account back and will have a customer compliance agent contact me in 24 - 48 hrs.
This is some bull-###. I will never recommend this bank to anyone.

overdraft fees
My experience with my son's bank account and Compass charging excessive overdraft fees to the tune of over $3, 000 in a 2 month period while he was working in a remote part of Oklahoma (full time student but worked seismic in the summer to pay for school). No access to internet, had no idea his account was overdrawn (to do a direct deposit paycheck being deposited, then reversed and not redeposted for two more weeks). He had not received bank statements in the mail for serveral months, because he had moved, filed a change of address with Compass, but they said he had the zip code wrong so they were being returned to the bank. He had at the time over $20, 000 in a Compass Brokerage account, so I tried to negotiate on his behalf and was met with absolute rudeness and unprofessionalism.
Then last year, I finally convinced him to close the Compass Account and go with Wells Fargo. He closed the account, an auto debit went through without his knowledge on his car insurance and suddenly he had again over $300 in overdraft fees. It took forever to get Compass to reverse these charges and to actually CLOSE the account. Then a few months later he gets a statement that his savings account is overdrawn by $4.00. Huh? Glad he has finally done with Compass. Does anyone know of any class action lawsuits against Compass for overdraft fees. I would gladly join the cause.

I am in the process of closing my account, in the past 2 weeks I have been charged 800.00 in isf fees. I hate this bank. I am trying to warn everyone via facebook, myspace, twitter, and I sent a request for the local news to investigate their practices. I also filed a complaint with the BBB and I am gooing to contact the attorney general office asap. My name is Linda Hasson my email is rnljhangel@msn.com, please contact me for a class action suit.
fraudulent nsf charges
Account Balances shown are always different, on different ATMs. We have checked it many times at a Chase Bank ATM and then within 15 minutes at our Compass Bank branch ATM, in Phoenix AZ. The balances are tricked to make the account holder undertsand that they are sufficient!
Next day account holder finds NSFs are charged! We were charged nine times, $38.00 each ($342.00 total) before we realised it is a big scam!

I have a small trucking company and I have accounts with Compass Bank, one for payroll and one for operating (daily expenses). I make deposits regularly and transfer funds between these accounts as needed. I rarely use my Compass Bank VISA. In a pinch, I used it for a $13.53 charge. The bill arrived, and I paid it slightly past the 30 days due. They hit me with a $19 late fee. I called to ask that the late fee -- which is more than the charge -- be waived. They said I had to fax the request. I faxed the request, and said I would pay the current bill as soon as I was apprised of the dispute outcome. I then received another bill showing that the initial late fee was waived, BUT, COMPASS VISA CHARGED ME A SECOND LATE FEE OF $19 while my request to waive the initial late fee was pending! They were aware that I was awaiting the outcome of the initial request in order to send an accurate amount. I called Compass VISA this morning and was on the phone for 1 hour, 3 minutes ... passed from the initial representative to the floor supervisor Elaine (Alabama), then waited 18 minutes for her to find a Product Manager who could not be located, and then transferred to Collections who said she would find her supervisor .. but that it was "best" for me to pay the $19 late fee & my current charges. As I was cutting up my Compass VISA card (I would never use it again with this kind of customer service), I suggested that they could have seen that I was trying to handle this in good faith -- and that charging me another $19 late fee, when my payment was pending due to a dispute about the unfairness of the original late fee, made no sense.

I did not make the charges. Compass allowed the charges on the expired card. When I notified them to stop! they claimed the card was not renewed and "decline to renew" letter sent to me that I never received. Asked for a copy of letter, instead, Then they say they will renew the account. They sent me a renewal card, that was never activated and began accepting more charges. How are there late payments on a card with no balance with no charges FROM me on it and more charges on a card that was never activated?
My Compass Visa card expired May 2010. I pay off my card in May 2010. No new card issued or arrives. I get June statement showing more charges. Contact Compass and demand they stop using my card and accepting charges after the card expired. Compass claims to have sent me a 'decline to renew" letter back in March 2010. I request copy of "decline to renew" instead they send me renewal card with $13, 000.00 credit limit July 7, 2010 and again more charges accepted on July 10 & 12 2010. I never activated the renewal card or used it, they refuse to discharge the charges. To me it appears that Compass established another credit limit of $13, 000 on the renewal card under my name and accepted charges without my entering into a contract with them. The sticker on the card says: This card cannot be used until you call ...-...-..."
The customer service department for Compass Visa is downright lousy, from the operators to the supervisors. I found your complaint today while searching for a fax number to which to send our cancellation notice, as we also are terminating our business Visa account through Compass. We discovered to our surprize this past weekend that even when a business pays the monthly charges in full and pays them early, Compass posts the payment but does not credit the account and free up the credit level until AFTER the payment due date has come and gone (but they do not, of course, pay any interest on the funds you've sent in advance of that due date, either.) What a crock!
Bull crap nsf charge!
I had a positive balance and made an online transfer which put my account at a good amount. I then look at my online banking the next day and i have been charges 5 $38 dollar nsf charges. MY account never even shows that it went into the negative online. I called to get it all straitened out and the lady yells at me. They now say the will return my call within 24-48hrs. If they do not remove the charges i will switch banks. I know one person switching big deal but. I have been baking with these ### for 4 years, and didn"t even overdraw it. I do not understand thid unjustified charges. BBVA sucks!

refi with compass has been a nightmare. closing costs double from the loan officer quoted. after 2-1/2 mos. finally closed with them trying to charge a bunch of other fees. even though we closed a week ago, they are still asking for more paperwork. no disbursements yet on our BOA mortgage, home equity{which is now overdue}, or our cash-back, which they tried to charge a $20 fee to deposit into our checking account. as of this morning, their no-customer service says they have no record of us having a loan with them. what in the world did we sign all those papers for? we do not know what to do or where to turn. anyone have any ideas?
BBVA COMPASS: A FRONT FOR ORGANIZED CRIME

BANK CARD CUSTOMER/VICTIM
I spent one hour trying to pay my credit card bill to no avail. BBVA Compass has a broken website that does not recognized my password which I used to register only a month ago. Then when I called [protected] their automated system did not recognize my card number (I kept reentering it to no avail). Then I when I waited for 15 minutes to speak to someone and I spoke with Cecelia she refused to take my payment unless I pay a $15.00 penalty on top of the amount due simply because their website was incapable of taking my payment. She wanted me to set up a new password but I refused, stating that if there system was not broken it would have taken my password and I had no more time to waste with their broken website. Finally I insisted on speaking with her manager, HUGO ALVAREZ, employee # 5580. He too was more interested in collecting a $15.00 penalty from me than accepting my payment by phone. I asked him if that is how his mother raised him, to screw people while keeping his big feet on his big desk and not adding any value to his bank or to help me make my payment on time. We argued for 20 minutes before he promised to have Monolo Sanchez, their CEO, call me. I called him and his bank a criminal front and hung up, but not before I pledged to drive to the nearest branch (none are in San Jose where I live) where I will make my payment, and then not leave until I fully state my case and I am thrown out.
Starting in November 2010 BBVA Compass pushed through debits before deposits made on the same day and stole about 1/3 of my income with every paycheck i deposited - every two weeks until July 2011, when i zeroed out the account and told them to close it. Even after i instructed them to close the account, they did not bounce out an "automatic payment", despite the fact that the BBVA account was to have been closed THREE DIFFERENT TIMES -July, August and October 2011. They expect me to pay the $800.00 in fees accrued AFTER i closed the account the third time. 8 months later, they have come after me for this alleged fee, after they had made around $3, 000.00 from me using their banking practices.

People who responsibility is it to make sure you have money huh...don't spend what you don't have. Always finding ways to blame the banking centers. You signed an agreement when you first open the account and were explain that anytime you don't have funds in the account you will be charge a NSF fee. Please do your homework.
I was kicked out of a branch because I asked them to explain the exact same thing! Can you believe that it is because the online banking is not the same information they on which they are basing the charge! Ask them to explain why your online banking does not match and then you will really be furious.
Holding deposits to generate nsf fees
Count me in for a Class Action law suit against Compass Bank!!! I will spare you all the gory details, but the bottom line is that Compass bank puts a hold on deposits to generate NSF fee income. Whether it be cash or check (for example, direct deposit of your payroll check). They claim it's because they are not an "online" bank, whatever that means. It'...

I had had a credit card with them for a few years and only used it for a balance transfer back at the beginning, which was paid off. I recently got an offer from them for balance transfer, and I wanted to use it. However, I used the wrong check that they had sent me, and when I got the statement I had $380 fee for using the check, $136.66 in finance charges for less than a month (on $9, 500) and $39 overlimit fee since their fees put my account over the limit. When I called them and realized my mistake, I asked to speak with a supervisor about lowering the rate since it was an honest mistake. In the meantime they offered me a much worse offer than the one I have in my hand, and charged me two $75 fees for this offer, even though I hadn't accepted it. All in all, this honest mistake cost me almost $700.
When I saw they weren't going to cooperate at all with me, I moved the $9, 500 to another bank and made an online payment to Compass of $555.66 which was all the initial fees they charged me. I have sent them their credit card and a letter explaining why I am closing my account and informing them I will NOT pay any more fees or finance charges they keep piling on. When they report me, I will send the explanation to the credit bureau.
My credit is excellent and I have any number of other offers I could have utilized. Rather than cooperate a little and keep my business, they would rather lie and cheat and take advantage of a good customer who made an honest mistake. I have reported them to the state attorney general in Alabama and in my state, and have reported them to the Federal Reserve. I plan to report them any and everywhere I find a website. BEWARE and do not bank with them in any way!

Ohhh man. That sounds like BBVA Compass bank. They are masters of deception! Stay away from them. Worst bank ever!
awful bank
I have been self employed for nearly 13 years and have managed to keep my head above water through the economic ups and downs. In the early part of 2006, I moved my commercial banking to Compass Bank, huge mistake, and opened two business checking accounts and accepted a small $10, 000 business line of credit.
At the time I had an excellent credit score of 759 and was managing to make ends meet in this competitive marketplace.
From time to time I would use my line of credit to purchase equipment and it pay back out of profits. There were times I would use most of the $10, 000 line and pay back most when the projects were completed. Over time as the economy declined I would use more of the line and pay back less but always made the payments.
I never missed a payment, I repeat, I never missed a payment and was never late with a payment and always paid at least double the minimum payment due.
Sometime in mid-2008 I received a letter from Compass Bank. Not a phone, not a warning, just a form letter stating that “due to information obtained in a recent credit report we have closed your business line of credit. Please destroy all checks and deposit slips associated with this account. You are still obligated to pay the balance…"
What had happened was that in April of 2008 I cosigned for a $24, 000 auto loan for a friend and the additional debt caused my credit score to drop. Evidently, Compass Bank pulls a credit report from time to time just to keep up with the credit worthiness of their customers. I have no problem with that practice. What I do have a problem with is that if they had a model customer for all these years wouldn't a courtesy call be in order before pulling the plug on a tool so important to a small business?
Fully accepting the fact that I owe Compass Bank the money I continued to make the payments as I always had even though I no longer had use of the account. As 2008 came to a close, it was increasingly difficult to generate new business. Businesses were holding off spending pending the outcome of the presidential election and committed contract were being pushed into 2009.
As income diminished and bills continued such as rent, utilities, phone, not to mention gasoline prices, the now closed, much needed line of credit had to move to the bottom of the list of priorities. I was no longer able to keep up with the payments. I literally had no income for the last quarter of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 and was barely living out of reserves.
Finally, in March of 2009, the companies that had postponed projects started to come back to life. On March 9th I was back at work once again after months without income. On March 12th I received a call from Anthony Smith in the commercial collections department for Compass Bank. It wasn't the first call, they had been calling for the past three months and every time I explained my current financial situation and how it was exacerbated by them closing my line of credit without so much as a phone call.
I explained to Mr. Smith that I had only just returned to work three days prior to his call and that I had every intention of making good on my loan and getting back on track. I was proud of my 759 credit score and had every intention of regaining it.
Mr. Smith was unsympathetic and demanded that a payment be made during his call. I explained once again what I had been going through over the past three months and only returned to work just three days ago and haven't been paid yet. I went onto say that I would make a payment next week once I knew exactly how much I was going to make. Mr. Smith, apparently not happy with what he was hearing, yelled at me saying that I have his number and to call him when I was willing to work with him. I was telling him that I was cooperating and had every intention to cooperate he abruptly hung up on me.
So, here it is the 12th of March and I haven't paid March rent, utilities, or phone yet and hoarding the last $1, 135 to my name to the last possible moment. On March 13th I decided that I couldn't hold out any longer and went to my Compass online banking service to pay these bills since I knew I would getting a paycheck the following week. I was shocked at what I found.
Mr. Anthony Smith had closed my business checking account and processed a $2, 000 debit against an account he knew only had a $1, 135 balance. And, Mr. Smith did this without my knowledge or my permission.
Mr. Smith knew that the balance in my account was only $1, 135. The $2, 000 debit placed my account a negative $894 with other transactions pending. This caused seven $38 NSF charges and another $42 in OD fees. As of this writing my account stands closed with a negative balance of $1, 707.99 and is increasing $7.00 per day, for every day the account remains negative.

Non-sufficient funds charges
Compass Bank has charged my account about $250 in overdrawn charges stemming from an oversight that led to a $3 negative balance. By the time I saw the first $38 NSF charge, my online account information showed that a trasfer wire deposit had posted and the account was no longer negative. What I did not know is that a small debit charge posted before the...

After reading several entries posted on this site, I have to believe that it isn't just my imagination, but that Compass bank has adopted accounting practices with the express intent of getting as much money from their customers as possible in overdraft fees.
I couldn't understand why I could never get my checkbook caught up. Like most other people in today's economy, I am forced to use the overdraft 'protection' offered. Unlike most people, I did NOT become a customer of Compass bank by choice. I was a member of Texas Bank, perfectly happy, then here comes Compass Bank.
For those of you Compass bank employees chiding us 'losers' for not keeping our accounts balanced, all I can say is that I hope you never have need for compassion. Karma being what it is, you're going to writhe on a pole before you get any.
When I spoke to one of Compass Bank's reps last night, I was given a convoluted explanation of their posting practices. The best I could make out, she was telling me that regardless of when a bank demands payment on a charge (debit/credit, etc), Compass bank goes back to the date the transaction was done. So, basically, even though no demands have been made on Compass bank funds at the time of the transaction and it's two or three days later, they're charging you $36 for it.
Also, Compass bank does two postings a day to keep more 'accurate' records. Best I could tell, this meant they posted all your debits from the night before, but they wait to post your credits until that evening. Therefore, increasing their chances of getting that money out of you.
I would seriously suggest closing your Compass account. After this discussion with a Compass rep, I shut down my direct deposit. These people will NOT get another penny from me. If you're interested in possibly pursuing a class-action lawsuit, please let me know. Even if I don't get one cent, it would be worth it just to get an ounce of flesh out of a group of people with no ethics or integrity.

Called the auto teller to find out they charged me a 29.00 service charge. Called and they stated it was a fee for going over the 15 calls a month. Stated never heard of that, Asked if fee could be waived said no. Went into branch and spoke with them about it, nothing could be done. Their reply to me was why did you call 44 times, said did not know. Told them i closing out my account period.
On the subject of nsf's. They hit me for be overdrawn on 7/10 by 1.29 and hit with with 38.00 five days later. This sucks. People should avoid this bank altogether.
Compass bank wanted My thunb print to cash a check drawn on their bank then they had the nerve to tell me that it would cost me 10% of the value of the check to cash it! They need to put 'Their' thumb print on it. They are getting away with bank robbery in reverse and need to be stopped now!
Is this the way to grow your customer base? If ANY banks should fail and go away for good, CompASS should be one of them. Everybody should read this and boycott Compass bank. Their policy makers need to be locked up in jail.

I am also a victim of compass bank. I kept sending them money to update my account, but somehow it never posted on time. It was always a day later and just time enough for them to charge the overdraft fee. I did not choose them, my bank was bought out.
They are doing the same - and worse - to me on my home equity line of credit. they would not reduce monthy payments (which suld be reduced when the 5-Yr CMT goes down) until I filed a forma dispute, and then only credited me for the past 3 months (not 1 year, as they should have) in overpayments I made. Their local branch does not have access to their Birmingham data base, and a payment i make locally can take a week or more to post. Of course, late fees are assessed in this case. Now, they're charging me $25 per month on "exceeding my account limit", but this "excess" consists solely of fees they have charged me! I am definitely "IN" for a class action suit.

My husband and I have a joint account and avoid the 1-800 number completely to check our balance. We are afraid to get charged the service fee for calling more than the 15 times a month allowed. I have never heard of a bank charging the customer for calling to get their balance. The way that Compass Bank operates makes you feel like you HAVE to check your balance several times a day. I wasn't aware that Compass complaints go so far back. I banked with Texas State Bank, which I never, ever had problems with, before they switched over in August and if I had known of their very shady practices, I would have found another bank before then and saved myself a lot of grief.
auto loan adding insurance fraudulently
Car Loan through Compass Bank. 1 year ago, Compass sent letter seeking proof of insurance, stating they did not know who my carrier was or that I had one. As all do know for loans at least in So Cal, that information is on the Loan Docs to the Bank.
I called my Ins. Agent. She was contacted by them as well. Huh? They didn't know I was covered, right? At that time, we both sent in the info. Have not heard from them since, well, until now.
Feb '09, I get another letter stating they don't know who my carrier is or that I have coverage. ? The letter also states to get the info to them by Dec '08 or they will charge me $900 for "their" insurance. It's Feb '09. Again, ? So, based on the fact we've been through this before and they've knowingly contact my agent directly before, all I can conclude is FRAUD!
Do not use Compass or ANY of their services. Based on all the complaints, they are guilty of fraudulent processes for all their services and offerings.

I have had the same problem. Every 6 months they send me a letter saying I don't have insurance anymore and that they will be charging me for it unless I provide them proof. I send them proof, I get my agent to send them proof, and then they send me a statement with an insurance charge. When I call and tell them that I send them proof, they tell me they never received it. This has happened 3 different times, and its getting old. I am going to refinance. Never use Compass bank!
I agree I have an auto loan and they say I have not paid anything yet.
Now they are threatening to tow my car away when I know I send them checks every month,
I write down the check number and everything.
I cant believe how the banking industry has gotten to the point of screwing over the public! I come from a long list of family bankers and I can remember how personalization was a wonderful thing! Well guess what? There is no such thing as personalized banking anymore! Theyre out for the almighty Dollar! Its so sad!
do not use them
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS BANK AND IT SEEMS AS THEY MAKE UP WHY FEES AND CHARGES ARE ACCESSED.CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE AS THEY TRY AND TALK OVER YOU(TIFFANY)AND SHE DID NOT WANT TO GIVE ME HER AGENT ID #.PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ALL REPRESENTATIVES HAVE A WAY TO BE TRACKED SUCH AS AN AGENT ID# OR CODE AS THEY WILL NOT GIVE THEIR WHOLE NAME FOR SECURITY PURPOSES WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE...I MEAN IF YOU HEIST PEOPLE'S MONEY FROM THEIR ACCOUNTS WHOULD YOU GIVE YOUR WHOLE NAME? EXACTLY..WELL AFTER THEY WRONGFULLY TOOK $152.00 IN SOME OF THE FEES OUT OF MY ACCOUNT AND BROUGHT MY ACCOUNT TO A POSITIVE STATUS FINALLY.COMPASS BANK FIGURES THEY WILL TAKE AND CHARGE ME A NSF CHARGE AND THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THEY CHARGE ME FEES ON THE FEES THAT THEY GIVE ME.SORRY IF I IT DOES NOT SEEM CLEAR I AM REALLY IRATE AS TO HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN.AND JUST THINK HOW MANY PEOPLE OVERLOOK THEIR STATEMENTS.THEIR IS A LESSON LEARNED HERE...ALTHOUGH I WOULD REALLY ENJOY CARRYING AROUND POCKETS FULL OF MONEY AND REACH IN AND SPEND WHAT I WANT WHEN I WANT WITHOUT A FEE..I WILL KEEP IT SIMPLE AND SAY THIS. I DOUBT THAT YOU WOULD LET ANY DOCTOR OPERATE ON YOU..SO WHY LET YOUR WHOLE LIFE'S WORTH OF HARD EARNED MONEY SILENTLY SLIP AWAY FEE BY FEE?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
They got me for 800.00 in 2 weeks I will be closing my account asap. I went to 12 news, then posted it on facebook, myspace an dtwitter, I filed a complaint with the BBB, and I will be contacting the attorney general asap. I am sorry this happened to you but gladto know that I am not alone.
overdraft robbery
In March of this year I had over drafted my account by $6.00. I had found this out on a Monday and was getting paid on Friday.
I had thought nothing of the enormous $38.00 fee I was incurring because a few days later I would be paying the NSF amount in my account.
By the time Friday had come along my NSF fees were $266.00 for a $6.00 overdraft! I called because ofcourse this is ridiculous. They refused to work with on these outrageous fees! If I would have paid that $266 dollars I would have not even been able to buy groceries for just my son to eat for the next week. Being robbed by the bank I figured I would just slowly pay it off.
But to my surprise Compass bank charged the following daily for 30 days for a negative balance.
1st 7 days was $38 a day.
Next 7 days $21 a day with an additional charge of $29 every 7 days. The last 7 days was $7.00 a day.
Making a grand total of $696.00 in fees for a $6.00 overdraft! Is this a bank or a loan shark?!?!?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
your comment is untrue. You are charged the $38 nsf fee. Then after 7 days another $38, (if you haven't taken care of the negative balance.) After that $7.00 a day for a maximum of 30 days. BUT remember in all this time you have done nothing to take care of a mistake that YOU made. Buck up and balance that check book and don't spend more than you have! We all do it, I'm not judging. The charges of 38 dollars is for EACH NSF transaction. The bank is paying for our purchases and bills even when we don't have the cash in our account! A steep interest rate to use their money? Definitely. AND a account will be closed one day, and the customer is asked " are there any outstanding checks or debit card transactions? and the customer will say no (because they HAVE no idea what they have out there still. IF the checks or debits come in within 24 hours of the customer closing account, they will owe the bank, because their debits were already in the system being processed but not yet deducted from their available balance! TAKE BANKING 101 you idiots
I too have had some amazingly awful experiences with the new blue compass bank. I closed my account and signed papers to that affect and gave them a check for 230 dollars for the same kind of overdrafts only it was 2 of them at 25 and 6 dollars.
Two weeks later they sent me a check for over charge of account closure for 4.95 which I did not cash. That very same day they issued me a non sufficient funds overdraft charge on a closed account for yes, you guessed it. 4.95.
Is this legal is it ethical? I am getting ready to call them and ask them why they are allowing anything at all to happen in an account that has been closed permanently for 4 weeks. and if they do not stop I will report their shenanigans to the attorney general of my state. I suggest others do so as well.

I just received a unauthroized charge on my credit card to which I will demand the funds to be returned to my card. If not...I will close this card and file the proper charges against this company.
illegal charges
I do not understand how this bank gets away with the things they do. They need to be under investigation. They do not credit deposits made on Friday afternoon until Tuesday? They charge you for absolutely everything. One month I had six fees for on-line bill pay which I had never used. They reveresed the charges but then when I disputed another charge they said I had reached my "maximum" refunds. Hello, the fees were their fault. I was in line one day at another Compass bank and every single person who went up to the window was complaining. The poor teller who had to enforce the rules of this horrible bank. She looked beaten down. They also force you to write a check to yourself to cash it. You cannot write "Cash." I believe this is illegal.
Compass Bank, I have an account and experienced the NSF fees, i even complained to the Banking Regulitory Industry who said Compass is in the right to charge the fees. Oh and the NSF fees they keep the bank in business by paying for salaries to the tellers who don't know what they are telling you and managers. The only way to stop this kind of practice is to go to credit unions where the money belongs to us and deposits are credited the same day especially cash.
online bill pay
Compass Bank wiped out my online bill pay "by mistake." While they were the ones that erased all my information without my consent... they could not find a way to restore it.
Compass Bank was unwilling to send letters to the companies explaining the error and to take responsibility. Compass Bank told me that I had to re-enter all the information to get the system back up and if I wanted Compass Bank to pay all my late fees (due to their mistake mind you) I would have to contact each company, make sure each company sends a letter showing the fee and then they would reimburse me.
Compass Bank would not even send me a letter explaining the mistake the bank made stating "they don't do that."
So they erased my online bill pay randomly for no reason, would not fix it, would not take responsibility and would not give me any person as a contact point nor allow any email communication.
Can you imagine waking up and your online bill pay is wiped out? Watch out if you bank with Compass Bank - it can happen and they will NOT help you fix their mistake. AWFUL.

Compank sucks... They never let you know or notify you that you have been paying this fee for months... Plus, they are robbing their customers.
I am gradually leaving from BBVA before the charge me a $15 fee I know that there will be months that the only thing happining is direct deposit (I use direct deposit from them and the paycard my job uses) I am a college student that when I get money it has to strech a long way and I don't need anyone else taking it before I use it.
GODDAMN COMPASSBANK
We need to nuke compassbank right now
@Evan Keller... You... as well as this dishonest bank have completely missed the point. Banks do not simply safeguard a consumer's funds every month...they use those funds to the bank's benefit. Nothing could be worst than charging a consumer who is letting them use his/her full assets...as is happening when the account is not being used. Turning around and charging the lender unreasonable fees under the guise of impending hardship for offering a service, while playing the victim is just wrong and a bit immoral. Banks, airlines and many large companies seem to be following the same trend...penalize the folks who keep them propped up and we seem to be completely unable to do anything about it. They took our money...and YES, it IS our money, from the federal government to bail them out...then charged us exhorbitant interest rates...now they continue the greedy trend of nickle and diming us everyday.
(Evan Keller) for everyone else who doesn't use their bank accounts, why have a bank account in the first place?
I DO USING THE ACCOUNT, but for some working reasons, i´m working outside of USA, and i´m not ussing checks and not ussing my debit card, everything online, the company makes me transfers every month and still the bank is charging me the fee.
I wrote them and they told me that an mail transfer will activate the account and i have wrote them since them to make a mail transfer and still no answer, so ...
i disagree, i've been banking with BBVA for 6 years now, and i've never had a problem with them, they have excellent customer service they're employees are so nice, for everyone else who doesn't use their bank accounts, why have a bank account in the first place?
I opened my BBVA Compass acount too, and they started to charge me 15 $ fees every month for an inactive account, even when every month i make online transfers to it from another accounts and from my paypal account.
When i oppend the account they explained that they will charged my if i would´t have activity in my account, but THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT ELECTRONICS TRANSACTIONS DO NOT QUALIFY AS ACTIVITY...
Also, i can´t transfer my money to another account becouse i´m not from USA and the bank does´t let me do that online.
Now, i´m looking for the way to move my money and close my BBVA account.
My father has an account in COMMERCE BANK, Excelent service, no fees and he makes wire transfers everywhere he wants with no problems ( he doen´t live in USA either)
BBVA, Shame of you
Wow! I just opened my BBVA statement on a small account...( I hadn't viewed it for seven months) to find they've been raping me every month. Great! No permission was requested or granted to my knowledge. If this isn't stealing, then I don't know what is. I loan them my money for their use, they don't have to pay me anything...yet they charge me. Ever get the feeling that they're no protections for the common folk? You wouldn't be wrong. Why is there not legislation to stop this thievery. I'll be closing that account first thing tomorrow. Bankers are nothing more than loan sharks in suits.
Seriously, Compass? Online transactions do not qualify as activity to you? Despite having several online transactions on my statement, I was charged a $15 inactivity fee. I AM USING MY ACCOUNT AND YOU ARE CHARGING ME INACTIVITY FEES?! This is theft. I'm closing ALL my accounts including my savings. There are plenty banks out there who don't steal from their customers.
