go to exchristian.net and read the forums...a christian cannot honestly read the forums and still call himself a christian afterwards. the bible is a STORY people. it is in history books that there was a jesus of nazareth but there is no evidence of moses, noah or even the flood for that fact. its like santa clause for adults. to a kid if youre good you get presents for christmas, if your bad you get coal. a good adult goes to heaven (gets presents/reward for his worship). a bad adult goes to hell (coal/fire pit). the government NEEDS religion, its too useful. why do you think the churches dont get taxed?

ok stealth pilot. you tell me when the bible was written...better yet tell me who it was written by...we do not know how old the bible is. so mr stealthy pilot can you tell me who all was on noahs ark along with noah? as i recall "god" told noah to make this ship because a flood was coming and to tell everyone and to gather 2 of every animal correct? no body listened sadly and it was only noah and his family along with all these animals that just happened to be all within walking distance of the ark onboard with him. now this flood covered the earth correct? killed anything and everything on land correct? so tell me mr pilot if noah was white, how are there blacks and asians and hispanics? if noah was black how was there whites and so on and so forth? NOW lets say the bible is true, then guess what, noah and his family had to repopulate the earth somehow right? so what does that make us? PRODUCTS OF INCEST and can you kindly state what the bible says on incest?

Here's Auntie's take, for what it's worth. If you have a faith and it brings you succor and comfort, good for you. It enriches your experience in life. If you don't, good for you. You are taking life on your own terms and deciding for yourself what is right and wrong for you.

But I will point this out about Christianity, and its followers.

"This is my commandment to you: that you love one another as I have loved you." - John 12:15 (and those are attributed to that Jesus fellow)

"Judge not, that you not be judged. For with that same judgement you judge with, you will be judged; and wit hwhat measure you use, you shall be measured by the same...And why do you point to the speck in your brother's eye but ignore the beam in yours?...Hypocrite! To the proselytizers and back-biting "Christians" who brow beat others about their sins, I say this:

Those of you who browbeat and proselytize and call others sinners, you are just as guilty as they. And the God you believe in will measure you by the same standards you judge others. It is not your place.

Instead, it is your place to go about your life, having faith in the One who brought you your salvation, to love others and let them hear the words and choose their own path. It is not your place to browbeat them. It is not your place to harangue them. It is your place to love them and, by your actions, show them the love and charity the Savior taught.

By your example of love, faith, courage, humility and joy, they may just say, "Hey, there might be something to this Jesus guy."

This is a Man who confronted an armed crowd to defend the life of a fallen woman, who by the religious laws of her day, was to be put to death. He defended her. He pointed out that those who judged her were not without sin. And He gave her His blessing in the end.

Would that more "Christians" showed such love, faith, charity and goodness!

I think the big issue is that everyone feels that they have to be right. That's why religion and politics are faux pas at the dinner table. People get offended so easily because they believe that what they say is right and what everyone else says is wrong...so if anyone doesn't agree, then tempers flare.

I will share my faith with anyone who wants to listen. If you do not believe as I believe, then fine. You won't hurt my feelings or make me angry in any way. If, in fact, enternal life and burning in hell actually do exist (which I do believe with all my heart)...i do know I don't want to be the guy who finds out too late.

Not believing is taking a chance. I guess the question is...is the chance worth it? But that is between yourself and God (if you believe in Him). I'm not going to try and force my belief on you. God has a funny way of opening people's eyes...He doesn't need my help to do that.

Also, spewing hatred...not cool. It doesn't help...it certainly doesn't convince anyone of anything other than the fact that the person spewing probably isn't the best Christian around to be following. If you spew hatred, no one will listen. If they don't listen, then what's the point in talking? Evil does not defeat Evil...it only strengthens it.

Bottom line: God wants us to be like Jesus...and Jesus loved all, even though they spat and hit him (and ultimately crucified him). If someone doesn't agree with me, then I'm going to accept them anyway.

Apparently it takes a genius to realize that you would have to be insane to be seeking immortality.

Consider the hell you would be in if you achieved said state - Ask yourself if you have ever been bored? Now multiply that feeling by infinity, and you may have an idea of what immortality could mean. Eventually, any immortal would become insane - having experienced all there is to experience, 300, 000, 000 times.

And finally, immortality is completely at odds with the very nature of the universe, this nature being the nature of god. Look around, read about the universe, and tell me what the single most important law is in effect at every level. I'll give you a hint - it's change. Change is the single constant of the universe.

So why would anyone think that immortality could ever be achieved in a universe in which the only non-changing constant is change itself.

If this doesn't make sense to you, I would suggest you take some time to use your own brain and your own eyes to discern the true nature of the universe, rather than relying on the faith you borrowed from some long dead tribesman, a faith that is so arbitrary that the main reason you profess to be a witness for it is primarily (if not exclusively) based only on the geographic location of your birth (and if you don't think that is true, then I can only assume you have studied all world religions in completely equal amounts).

Eternity cannot be measured within the confines of this planet, not even of this universe. I trust that the creator of all the universes can find something for each of us to do that would occupy our new body with absolute total JOY. Humans opened the door to pain, suffering, hate etc. God gave Adam and Eve a choice. He did not try to MAKE them do what he wanted. He only asked that to love HIM is to do his will. Love Him 1st, Love our neighbors as ourselves next. If we all did that there would be no hate, pain or suffering. In fact if Adam and Eve had done as he commanded we wouldn't be here. Mankind has created it's own problems and God has allowed it
as "free will". For those who love and trust him we believe the Bible is HIS Word. From the dead sea scrolls to archelogical discoveries God reveals the truth of His Word as revealed in the Bible. Men inspired by God put into writing the books of the Bible. That's how they learned His word and conveyed it to others. When teaching children anything do they learn more if we do it for them or if they do it themselves with parental support. We love our children so much we want the very best for them in everything. Yet when they choose a path that leads
them to harm themselves we are in pain for them. That is what God feels for us when we choose death instead of life. As for me I choose Life.

Let me answer some of those questions for you.

Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. If you take some time to read the story, you will understand that after the flood, Noah drank wine and became drunk and layed naked. Ham saw his father was naked and rather than covering him up and protecting him from shame, he and called his two brothers to look. Shem and Japheth covered their father up right away.

The bible goes on to explain that when Noah awoke, he was furious with Ham and cursed him and his generations to come, saying that he will be a slave to his brothers. He blessed the generations of Ham and Japeth. NOW, the three sons went off and separated into their territory.

It gets so much more interesting from here. In Genesis chapter 11, it talks about the world having one langugage. People during that time were trying to build a tower that reached into the heavens so that they could make a name for themselves. This upset God and the Lord and God purposely confused everyone by giving people different languages to speak so they would not understand each other which would put a stop to this building.

Now, Im sure you can imagine that the people found amongst themselves the people who were able to speak and understand their new language and segregated from there. The reason why I told you the story of Noah and the three sons was that the noahs ark happened right before the tower event. When the Noah blessed his two sons, I believe he sent them to the asian and english part of the world. The other son who was cursed, I believe he was sent to Africa. The reason I say this is that it only makes sense logically. Noah cursed his son Ham, and Africa has been doing poorly since.

Nancy, I understand where you are coming from. I understand that you don't believe in the bible. My intentions are to not convert you into Christianity but to not be so disrespectful to other people who do believe. I was once in the same situation as yourself, question God and how the bible could be so true. After doing research on my own, I had to come to the conclusion that I was wasting my time trying to make myself believe God was not real when he really was. It is amazing how much of a difference your life can change if you just let God work through you. The one thing that separates me from my competitors in my professional life is that I have God right beside me whereas before, I had nothing but myself and me, just by myself, was not good enough.

and Nancy, tell me, what are your thoughts on evolution? i guarantee you, to date, there has been absolutely NO proven fact any evolution theory is the absolute truth. Just like the bible, all the other evolution theory are just theories. Just like the bible, scientist who have come up with the big bang, darwins theory, and others believe in their theory by faith.

Its true evolution biologist have documented that evolution have occured. They have developed test THEORIES to explain its cause. HOWEVER, the mechanisms that drive changes in evolution have REMAINED unclear. Now, when evolution happens, in their test, sweetheart, these changes are never huge changes. not huge enough to turn an ape into an human.

A debate on evolution will never get you anywhere. People can debate, argue, discuss as much as they please. In the end, there will never be a TRUE answer. Of course, if you read, understand, and believe in the bible, then you will believe the word of God, which is what I choose to do. =)

Wow. I don't believe it. A complaint board and it's not the Christians who are getting torn apart on the internet for once! :D Seems like everywhere else I go on the internet I'm the only one trying to explain or defend my reason for keeping the faith and it was quite uplifting to read some of these responses!

Also, I will never understand why non-believers compare Jesus to Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny especially after making the claim that Jesus was in history books. The Bible itself has been carbon dated and has a ton of manuscript testimony backing it up. We do know who wrote some of the books; I don't know why people think just one person sat down and wrote the whole thing out one day even though there's about a 400 yr gap between the Old and New Testaments. We know some of the writers were Moses, King David and his son Solomon, Paul, Nehemiah (interestingly in first person), and John. The Easter Bunny and Santa are fun things, but neither of them have a Bible with historical accuracy, eyewitness testimony, and neither of them have people praying or worshiping them. The comparison is totally ridiculous and displays questionable intellect. Or just desperation to assure oneself that there is no God. Maybe it's the insecurity in their own non-belief that leads to such a comparison.

About the Flood questions. Noah didn't have to go out and find these animals. "Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you, to keep them alive." ~Genesis 6:20 They went to Noah; he didn't have to retrieve them himself.

Regarding the race question asked (about Noah being white and how we wound up with all these different races). It's even common in evolution to believe that all humanity sprang up from one African ancestor. Coulda been Adam for all we know and probably was. We multiplied, moved around, etc. Our skin is melanin and the theory regarding white people is that when humans moved out of the tropics, there was insufficient vitamin D, and the result was the lightening of skin. A lot of it is simply how the skin adapted to the sun and then you have sexual selection. Supposedly diet played a part in this, too. (That's not from the Bible, but from actual science and evolution itself). The only reason there are so many "white" pictures of Jesus, Noah, Moses etc is because of our culture. While I doubt Jesus was black, I also doubt he was pale white. He was probably olive skinned as he was around the Middle East and often out in the sun in a desert area. But of course, none of their skin color actually matters as it is the message they brought that does matter.

I think chicagolaw has a very interesting story regarding Noah's son Ham. Very intriguing. I'm happy to hear that you Jesus knocked on your door and you answered! :D

And the thing I find the most ironic is the first Christians were called atheists for worshiping and "invisible" God and even claimed they weren't religious! Irony at it's best.

Most Christians accept minor evolutionary progress in animals and the world. It is the ape-to-human thing that is not generally accepted. And we are not the only people who do not accept this theory. Not ALL atheists are evolutionists. Also, I really don't want to read anything ridiculous like "Christians believe the earth is 6000 years old and that's stupid!" That is Young Earth Creationism. There is also the less vocal, but widely accepted Old Earth Creationism. Not ALL Christians believe the earth is less than 10, 000 years old just as not all Christians advocate West Borough Baptist Church and it's unhealthy agendas. God is outside of time and space. Time has no affect on Him. He doesn't need the Earth to be young or old; either way would work just fine for Him.
