book trade in
I sent a textbook in valued at $80, in good overall condition. I even spoke to someone via their chat function to make them aware that it had been used, and they advised the condition I described was fine. As soon as they had it I received a bizarre e-mail saying Bookbyte retained the right to shut down my account for any reason they wished, and that's what they had chosen to do. I contacted them, and they advised the book wasn't suitable for resale and they'd destroyed it. Eventually through formally complaining they gave me $20 as a gesture. I'm under no illusion that this book will now be sold on for $80+, and feel very silly for trusting them in the first place.
resell
Bookbyte is seems to be perpetrating fraud, but who knows Maybe, there is a magical vortex that damages all incoming books...I sent in a pristine book.
Without notifying me by email or illustrating with a picture, they indicated on my account that the book was damaged almost a week after they received the book. I called and sent email, and Bookbyte eventually claimed there was binding damage to the book. They admitted that the package was in tact, that, go figure, USPS did a good job of delivering the book. So, where and when did the damage occur?
I certainly sent in a pristine book. I sent many email and even called, requesting a picture. I was then sent a picture that could or could not have been our book. The picture illustrated damage to the binding that could be fixed for so many cents with a bit of strong glue.
Now, a book worth 100 dollars that I could have at least enjoyed a bit longer is in the hands of Bookbyte, and they will not send any books back. The failure to notify and the supposed damage itself is enough for me to write this review. I learned a lesson though: Read other online reviews. How many times will you find the word "scam" in a Bookbyte review?
I am not new to selling books using USPS or UPS, and I have never had such an issue. My Amazon seller rating is 100%.
I write the truth here folks.Beware of Bookbyte.
refusal to return my book
I sold bookbyte.com three text books that were all in excellent condition. They paid me for two of them, but stated that the third book was damaged and not salable, and that they would recycle it. I emailed them and requested that they return my book and that I would pay for return shipping, but they refuse to respond. This is what they do; lie and tell you your perfectly good book was received damaged and that they will recycle it, refuse to return it to you, then turnaround and resell it for a profit at your loss. Do not, I repeat, do not deal with this company. They are a scam and will rip you off. Run away as fast as you can. Deal with a reputable site, such as Amazon or Barnes and Noble, whom will return your books if they decide not to buy them, and the shipping is free. This company sucks!

Claim to have never received book
I got a quote from bookbyte.com to sell 1 textbook for $22.10. I mailed the book with their shipping label about 1 week before Christmas.
Now it's March 10 and I STILL don't have a check. When I contacted the company they said file a claim with the post office.
I went to the post office, and they can't do anything.
I have purchased many books from this company. My husband and myself are both in college.
So, it looks like I'm out my $22. I will NEVER deal with these thieves again. Consumers... Beware of this company.
Failure to pay for merchandise
I have sent several shipments to Bookbyte. I also ship to two other company, shipping about 30 boxes of books per year. Out of six shipments to Bookbyte, they claimed damages to books (such as highlighting, bent pages/corners, or written in) that were still sealed in the mylar/saran that new books are wrapped in. One shipment they claimed to never have received, and the last shipment I sent them of 14 books all in one box, they claimed to have received only 8 of the 14 books even though they were sent all in one box. Moreover, while other companies process my shipments within 48 to 72 hours, Bookbyte has sat on my shipments for two weeks after delivery confirmation, with another 10 day average for payment.
This company is a scam. I don't know how they have gotten an A+ rating through BBB. I was stunned!

Rip off
This company rips off students who sell their new/used textbooks back to them.
Upon receiving books they lower the value that they offered to give you when you shipped them. Scamming you into selling your books, only for you in return to get less than what you were told to receive. They also "do not receive" and lose books miraculously in the mail, which then you out completely out of your money.

I had a bad experience with this website. I ordered two books. One I rented and I put in the wrong apartment number so I had a "discussion" with an attendant to change it. Within the same hour that I ordered that rented book we had changed the address to the correct address. I was feeling good and I put my correct address in the next order on the book that I bought. I hadn't rented anything online before so I only wanted to try it out. I "received" the correct book that I rented according to the tracking service and it sent it to the wrong apartment. I luckily got it because the carrier did not know that there was no such thing as apartment 130 in my complex, but that wasn't the worst of it. BOTH my books I got from this site had the wrong address on it. It said the wrong apartment number on both orders even though I typed in the correct address for my bought book and we changed the address on the rented one. I did not receive my bought book. It was shipped back because the USPS knew there was not apartment "130" in my complex. It was a joke and now I have to get a refund and buy the book again. I would not recommend this website. The service I got to change my address at the beginning was bad because they did not change my address and they put the wrong address on the other book. Do not use Bookbyte.com

******* IMPORTANT ***********
The website "Sell-Textbooks.com" and "Sell-Textbook.com" are two completely different websites. Notice the first one uses the PLURAL version of the word, "textbooks" (with the letter "s" on the end), and the second one uses the SINGULAR version of the word "textbook." Both those websites (sell-textbook.com and sell-textbooks.com) are COMPLETELY SEPARATE COMPANIES! With COMPLETELY SEPARATE OWNERS!
The company you are INTENDING to be complaining about is a website owned by Bookbyte called "Sell-textbook.com" (again, notice the word "textbook" is singular).
In your complaint (maybe you were agitated when you typed it), you mistakenly added an additional letter "s" which makes the word "textbook" plural, and therefore, you mentioned a totally UNRELATED company. The company you mistakenly mentioned in your complaint is "Sell-Textbooks.Com" which is a completely different company, based in a completely different state, which has a pristine reputation, and has been around for over 10 years.
It is really important that when you go online and complain about companies, that you actually spell the name of the company correctly.
In conclusion, in a nutshell:
1.) Sell-Textbook.Com is owned by BookByte, and they are the company you have your complaint with.
2.) Sell-Textbooks.Com is a completely different company which you have NEVER dealt with, and has absolutely NOTHING to do with your complaint.
3.) You should come back to these message boards and correct your mistake.
My daughter is having problems getting paid for books she sold. They are marked as accepted, and when she chatted with them, they said that they paid to her PayPal account. I personally checked her PayPal account and there was no payment. When she contacted them again and asked for evidence of the payment, so she could try to track it, she gets the message immediatley that the representative left the session, and then the session has ended. I have emailed them three times with no response, and sent a fax. The site is Sell-Textbooks.com, and it says on the bottom Powered by BookByte. I'm beginning to think they have no intention of paying, even though they accepted the condition of the books.
I sold them 6 books April 9, 2012 and they have not sent payment. I cannot physically contact them. I have written two emails. I have also called and been disconnected from the chat server. I will not stop until I get my money or books back. An A rating on the BBB does not mean a thing my friend. You are shady and have bad business practices...AT BEST.

Explain this?
I too had a serious problem with this online book purchasing company. I mailed them one book on Dec. 21, 2010 and did not receive a check from them until April 15, 2011. They claimed the post office lost it. I am a 12 year veteran of the Post Office and I traced the book through the proper channels and determined it was not lost. I had to e-mail them and complain. Then I had to call them and complain. The person on the phone was extremely rude to me. Next I had to file a complaint with the BBB. I then called them again and threatened to publish my story in our local paper. I am a paid journalist. After they proposed two different answers through the BBB, neither of which was acceptable, they managed to somehow find my book and promptly send me a check. There are hundreds of stories similar to mine or worse on the internet. Do a quick search, you'll find the truth. This company is ripping off college students EVERY day. Don't trust this site.
I'm having the same problem right now. I ordered a book, paid EXTRA for expedited shipping (3-5 business days) and they claimed it was shipped on 8/30 yet it's strange how my order was placed near midnight that same day it was shipped AND there's no shipping history for this book but there was for my other two. They told me to wait another month, wtf? I PAID for the expedited shipping!
Fail to mention how long delivery is (5-20 calendar days) and then there's is no record of your shipment on usps.com I will NEVER EVER do business with them again. 7 days and still haven't receive my order and my assignment is due in 2 days. 100% THUMBS DOWN!
It's hard to be a "total scam" when your rated an A+ from Better Business Bureau Online (http://www.bbb.org/oregon/business-reviews/scholastic-prep-courses-books-and-materials/bookbytecom-in-salem-or-75005073).
I've done business with this company numerous times, know the owner, and obviously from your e-mail, it looks like you sent the wrong book in. As it clearly states, you entered an ISBN, and sent in a different book (annotated instructor's edition). So I'm confused as to why it's a scam when they said "contact us, " in which they probably would've talked/walked you through the process of what to do from there.
Once again, I'll post a link to the Better Business Bureau and their rating of Bookbyte.com, an A+.

Shady companies don't get the BBB seal, much less an A+ for trying to rip off people for one book...yes, one book when they deal with thousands each day. what advantage is that to them?
Thanks.
Total scam
Unfortunately this is a very shady website which accepts books from unwary sellers and then refuses to honor the written contract to pay them the agreed upon amount.
After receiving no answer from them in over a month I emailed them and they said I sent them a different book than the one described, and they want me to pay them to get my book back.
Here is the email from them.
"Hello and thank you for contacting us. We have received your order; however you entered the ISBN for the student edition, which we are purchasing, but instead you sent us in an Annotated Instructors Copy, which has all the answers in the book. For this reason, your order has been rejected and is sitting on a shelf. If you would like the book back, please contact us at the number below to pay $5.95 for the return shipping."

Yes their website offerred $116 for two extremely books. I packaged securely while in the post office. They claimed package was empty.
Book Byte is a sham, rented books. When it came time to send them back the link they sent me to wouldn't print out the label. Tried to contact them numerous times and no response! Now they want to charge me for these books as if they were brand new, saying I failed to send them! Beware looks like a good deal but to good to be true!
I have sent several shipments to Bookbyte. Each time they claimed damages to books (such as highlighting, bent pages/corners, or written in) that were still sealed in the mylar/saran that new books are wrapped in. These books were brand new!
One shipment they claimed to never have received so they never paid for it. However, the package was not returned to me and the post office reported it as having been delivered. I decided to try them one last time several weeks ago. I sent them a shipment of 14 books -- all in one box. They claimed to have received only 8 of the 14 books even though they were sent all in one box!
Moreover, while other companies process my shipments within 48 to 72 hours, Bookbyte had my shipment for two weeks after delivery. Then they delayed payment (for only 8 books) for another 10 days. When I have called, the "customer service" people have been dismissive. Basically they will tell you too bad.
I have seen numerous other similar complaints on various websites by bookbyte customers, so it is clear that this treatment is a company practice. Certainly they are making a lot of money off of customers by claiming damages and/or non-receipt of merchandise and then reaping undeserved profit off of those items.
Please file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if Bookbyte has treated you poorly. They have a very misleading A+ rating right now which needs to be remedied in order for them to engage in honest practices!
I have other story when you try a buy book they add to cart different book! Like in my case I was buying ISBN [protected] and end up with ISBN [protected] that is instructor edition also stating "NOT FOR SALE" as well the buy back value is $4 compare to other one that buy back is $40
So when you click add to cart double check for correct ISBN number.
They are a shady company. I have worked there. Employees steal other employees things and promises to review surveillance are not followed through on. The managers are more concerned with the "bookbyte family" than customers or hard workers. BEWARE
Bookbyte is a complete scam. I only wish I did research on the company prior to placing an order. I purchased a book and no were on the posting online did it mention that it was a e-book. Additionally, I get the link for the ebook only for the owner to contact me 3 days later saying that her account was hacked and she had to cancel all of her order. Then, ask me to pay her directly for the ebook and she will reshare the file with me. Here's the problem, Bookbyte has already charged me $70 for the book which I did not receive. So, I send an email addressing my concern to the company and I have not heard back since. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO STAY AWAY FROM BOOKBYTE! Clearly, they DO NOT value integrity or the customer. I'm sticking with what I know: Amazon, Cheggs, etc for all of my books moving forward. The funny thing is, I'm just now noticing all of the negative comments about Bookbyte and this stuff dates back to 2007. Question, how can such an unethical business still be in business. More importantly, how does a person file a business complaint to get them out of business for good?
I definitely agree that this website is a scam. I purchased a textbook from the website and they even informed me that it was shipped. However, after weeks of waiting, there was no book, no reply (I emailed them), no refund whatsoever. I guess I should have known better for ordering through a website that doesn't even offer customer service over the phone, but I was drawn in by the bargain price. My honest advice, do not buy anything from this place. Such a waste of time and money altogether.

Yes they do when they send false reviews and I'm sending in a complaint on fraud that won't help their rating much!
Where do I go to submit a complaint with BBB? I was scammed by them twice.
Submit a complaint to the FTC
Bad service
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR BUYBACK.. they lie. I sent in two very good books...one they say heavily stained and the other missing pages. These books were both normal college used texts. NO pages were taken out and no stains were on them. They were very good condition. So after I sent them in I cannot file any claim to return my books. TERRIBLE. Use textbooksrus or another service. There are other buyback places out there, may be lower buyback price but honest.

The books I have ordered from Bookbyte.com have not arrived yet after 18 days. When I called to follow up on it they said they have no tracking information on my order. Therefore, they can't tell what is happening with the order. They said they will refund the money. If the books arrive I am suppose to send them back the books or call to have them charge my credit card again. This is very irresposible on their behalf. They have waisted so much of my time. I will never ever order from Bookbyte.com again, and I'll make sure everyone in my school knows about it.
