I have never been met with such rude customer service as I did at the Milton Walmart on July 7, 2023. The cashier never spoke a word to us as she was too busy conversing with the cashier next to her, the person working the return counter and another employee who kept checking her clipboard. There seemed to be an issue as to who was going to go on break and when.
Our items were scanned and the cashier turned her back to us. Good thing I looked at the payment device so I could pay. Now the cashier is on her personal phone talking to someone. I interrupted her to tell her she should be interacting with customers rather than being so rude. I doubt she heard a word or cared. She was too involved in her own conversation. This isn’t the first time we’ve been met with rudeness. The time before this, the two cashiers working next to each other were having a conversation in a foreign language.
I have worked as a customer service representative. First thing taught is making the customer feel that all attention is on them. You greet them with a hello and a goodbye. Eating food or drinking is not acceptable while dealing with a customer. These encounters really make me think that shopping elsewhere is a better choice. I think Walmart can do better.
I, like many customers, refuse to use self checkout. Why would I take a job away from someone. Why, also, would I check myself out only to have bags checked before leaving the store. If I’m not trusted, then do not expect me to check myself out. Not a happy shopper.
