Canadian Tire - Auto repair

CDN Tires - Auto Repair Dept. 2129 St Clair Ave W. Please get a second opinion! They tried to say I needed something, and when I asked a friend, he introduced me to his mechanic who was free to speak, and he told me what the mechanic suggested was not needed. So, let the buyer beware, and I'm sure I'm not the first customer to make a statement about their - lack of customer service, trying to sell unnecessary service/product or just mandated by management to high pressure us customers! Lastly, I brought the car to another CDN Tires and they said I didn't need anything done & disregard what the 2129 St Clair Ave W location had said to me!

Canadian Tire - car mechanic services

Friday November 8th,

I had gone in the store the previous day and spoke to Mike. I had asked for the license plates to be taken off my car which was in the parking lot. At 4pm when I got in - this was not done.

I began speaking Bryan - who explained that the technicians could not do it - that we cannot do it for me without a charge. I explained that I cannot take it off myself because of a disability. He kept apologizing and even tried to call Mike. I said I don't mind paying but it needs to be done quickly - as I have a rental car to return before 6pm.

At that point Pedro came into the conversation - and that is when the lies and things got far worse. Pedro explained something I had never heard before --- in any shop I had been too. He said that technicians cannot work on cars in the parking lot - that the insurance doesn't cover it. I have checked this -- and insurance covers the property - including the parking lot. Pedro kept insisting that the car had to be brought into the shed. I explained that the car doesn't start. How was this to be done? He kept insisting things had to be done that way. Bryan then checked if a technician was available and one was not available for an hour as he just went on lunch. Pretty convenient. Pedro insisted that I would have to wait in line (about 2 hours) for a simple license removal to be done in the shed. The way I was spoken to was rude by Pedro and I would argue that if I was a man I would NEVER had been spoken to that way.
I asked to speak to a manager -Peggy came and said she would speak to Pedro - that is it? That is nothing. When Peggy came - Pedro then said he would remove the plates. Isn't it funny that this was done when I escalated it.
Peggy then said she would take the plates off the car. Bryan gave her a screwdriver - which did not work with the car. In fact, Peggy started saying that the front plates at 2 parts? They did not?
She left the parking lot saying she would be back with another screwdriver. I found someone that would take the plates off but I needed a screwdriver. After a few minutes, I went into the store and asked about the screwdriver and where Peggy was. Bryan, using great customer service, explained that Peggy had left to deal with another customer and didn't knwo what was happening to me? Really? I asked Bryan for the correct screwdriver - he went to get one. Then Peggy turned up with a brand new screwdriver from the shelf and didn't tell Bryan anything.

The plates were removed by a stranger. Pedro never apologized. Peggy never apologized. This is not the type of customer service I have come to expect from this store. And being lied to about the insurance is insulting. I have seen technicians work in the parking lot of other customers (with windshield wipers) - so, why try that on a woman with a disability?
Another person pointed out that this was a cash grab - as it would take A LONG time to bring the car in and take the plates off and return the car to the lot.
Disgraceful

Canadian Tire - after changing the oil mechanic forgot to tight the engine oil drain bolt

I recently went to Canadian tire Keel/St. Clair or my Honda Accord 2000, for Oil Change. Job was done and i was called that my Car is ready. This work was done on May 22, 2008 @ 14:29hrs, My invoice no 394619. On May 23, 2008 I noticed that my car is leaking oil, I was surprised that how come suddenly my car is leaking oil so much. It used to be clean and not a single drop under my car, My car has only 124792 km, I put my car on jack and went down an found that you Canadian Tire brilliant and extraordinary mechanic, forgot to tight the engine oil drain bolt. This is such a irresponsible and poor work which could cost me thousand of dollar. If I lose the bolt on the highway.

Had the same thing happen to me at a Canadian Tire in Guelph ON (Stone Road store). After noticing the oil I checked and found the drain bolt loose, so tightened it, went ti store to complain, after some back and forth they gave a voucher for a free oil change.
Like the poster stated, had it fallen out the engine could be ruined. My car was only 4 years old with under 80000 kms at the time, pretty new to ruin over a drain plug!
Honestly, I like CTC as a store but think that you are taking a big risk having any mechanical work done except for tires, I have heard SO MANY horror stories that it is hard to believe.
