I contacted Cabelas in regards to trading in a gun to purchase another for my grandkids. I wanted to make sure they would do that before I drove all the way there. They assured me they do trades or cash offer, so I travelled to the Green Bay /Ashwaubenon store. I was told to wait by a counter to check in gun. After 10 minutes of no assistance (of which they were not busy except 2 employees pushing credit cards), one of the credit card pushers came over and asked me what I wanted. I said I am waiting for someone to check in my gun. She said we are not accepting trade ins or purchasing, I tried to show her my email that showed that I was told they were accepting and I should come down. She would not look at it. I insisted she check with the manager or get one. She left and went out of sight for less than a minute and came back and told me NO we aren't taking guns. Before I could say anymore to her she turned her back and went back to pushing cards. I contacted Cabelas in regards to this of which they right away offered a $20 coupon on my next purchase. I wasn't looking for that. I wanted to know why they LIED to me. Basically it came down to money. Cabelas is a destination store. Most people travel a distance to get there, and once there they spend money. They were willing to say a LIE knowing the odds are most people will make purchases. I don't care how much money people say they donate. Lieing and cheating people and then giving those profits back in the form of a donation only makes Cabela's (Johnny Morris) look good. If you like donations Give your money to an Honest company like Scheels. They donate a ton! Dick Cabela would be rolling over in his grave if he knew how Bass Pro and Cabela's is run. The Morris family lied to the people of Sydney Nebraska and bankrupted and nearly ruined the city because he promised Cabelas would remain in some corporate fashion in Sydney. Why do I bring this up? Customer service is a by product of an owners philosophy. I contacted Cabela's management. They said they would look into it Haha. Look at all the complaints on this website. Mostly customer service related. We shouldn't accept this. What I will say is their quality, pricing, greed, and customer service will put them in a league of their own of which I and you should want no part of. It was very refreshing to then go to Scheels to have a wonderful experience. What a great company with great morals. My friends, family and I are done with Bass Pro/Cabelas!
Recommendation: Go to Scheel's
Cabela's very incorrect information and awful set of policies towards customers are blinders, particularly when they tempt one to a regretful visit. Their excuse is that their surplus coupon of $20 is sufficient for their accountability as such. It pays to be with the likes of Scheels who stress on honesty and respect for their clients. Do not go where your respect is not earned, Cabela's does not.
